Uh... I guess this could be useful in those random PvE fights, you know the ones with a thousand beetles munching at your jewels, or when you happened to pull all of gnomeregan again, for that extra foxy focus regen.

I could really go either way on this debate, but the fact of the matter is this -does- make hunters viable in PvP, whereas before then you're kinda left picking your rear.

I'm replying to this comment directly because of the little notion you made of "not go charging into melee the entire time." That's outright absurd and displays that the point of the argument soars right over you. It's not the hunter derping and running to the melee. It's the melee knowing that we have a minimum range and closing the distance while we sit still for two seconds to regenerate less than half the focus required for even an Arcane Shot.

Getting out of melee range requires movement, which cancels Steady Shot's cast unless AotF is on, and typically speaking... if the melee doesn't have a 1k latency, they're not going to just say "Oh they got away."

They pursue. IE keep closing distance. Which means you have to keep moving, or move again if you used Disengage and got a good enough gap to start casting another Steady. (Inevitably, whether or not that Steady finishes the cast varies by what you're up against and how much haste you have, but that's not the point.) Point is any melee class that isn't flailing around a BG will know how to counter a Hunter and, as has been stated above, all Hunters can do is either burn through all their focus in hopes that they kill it, or fire infrequently enough that your passive regen gives you enough to fire another.

I don't know about you, but the default regen is like watching paint dry, and relying solely on four or five shots to kill someone, then being left to scurry around like a headless (weaponless?) chicken isn't great either. Neither scenario is appealing, and AotF fixes that approximately 73 levels too late. 68 if you want to be generous and say they shouldn't PvP until at the top of a bracket anyway, or balance its viability between PvE and PvP.

And I'll briefly touch on PvE by saying that while it isn't nearly as beneficial, it makes things significantly smoother. Questing, when you pull off your pet, you can just kite them and not worry about your focus dropping out and causing your damage to fall to that of a wet noodle. Dungeons, same thing sorta if you have a meh tank, but moreso to keep up with faster groups, or even just (dare I say?) to make things a bit more enticing. Moving combat tends to be more fun than standing still, but that may just be me.

This became a lot longer than I planned, so I'll finish by saying that yes. It -is- possible to PvP without AotF, and I would not at all be surprised if Blizzard ignores this plea and leaves it for endgame. But possible doesn't mean it's easy/fun/likely to be successful on those just learning hunters, etc etc. Unless you're camping a really nice vantage point, you're not going to enjoy it much.

This ability just got much better, the 4.0.6 patch notes say that the hunter can auto shoot while moving.

I know I've already posted on this page, but I'd just like to add that having AotH and AotF mousebound (or keybound, if you want) can significantly increase moving DPS. Fox to double-up Steady, Hawk at the end of the second cast to bump your AP back up for whatever part of your rotation you're at.

Once you get it down, it's actually kinda fun as well. A pleasant addition to the hopscotch rotation of Steadyx2, ASAS, Steadyx2, Chimera. Works in PvP, too! =D

After Cata patch 4.1 this Aspect now reads "him" instead of "you". Kind of silly as my very much feminine Blood Elf Hunter doesn't much resemble a tomboy to be called "him". >^)

Wasn't there supposed to be a change(patch) or a glyph added or something that gave Aspect of the Fox another affect that matched Aspect of the Hawk?

Example: Glyph of Aspect of the Fox now also provides the same Ranged Attack Power as Aspect of the Hawk. Aspect of the Fox continues to provide it's previous effects as well.

I could have swore I read something like this at some point not too long ago.

I'll be the first to buy such glyph, it is so good for PvP I can't even begin to describe it.

I think this should be a base-line effect, much like warrior Slam was fixed to be cast while moving some time ago. And not pushed back by damage like current Cobra Shot!

First of all what are you talking about? Hunters not good for PVP? I pvp with a rogue, dk, warlock, druid, and hunter and out of all of them the hunter kicks the most you know what. I'm no awesome hunter yet, but i'm okay and usually that's good enough to put me in the top 3 killing blows in bgs. Aspect of the fox? Got it a few days ago and haven't even trained it. I only use aspect of the hawk and once in a while aspect of the cheetah, but ya I guess fox will be good to have in some situations. Honestly guys it's all about playing your pet well. If you do, and you manage cool downs and know how to use disengage/scatter shot why give up the huge attack power buff you get from hawk to be able to shoot steady shot while running? I can already shoot serpent sting and arcane shot while i move about. Honestly in combat, if you have to move, you also have to stop moving asap. From what i've seen in bgs, hunters have no problems, nor are they under represented. Peace all.
