This quest is NOT completed by killing naga. Instead, when Nazgrim says "We are... beaten. Escape if you can..." - abort fighting and swim up. There will be an untargetable naga who takes you to a new area, which completes the quest.

It is possible to go into a very long loop of wave after wave of naga with no effect. The quest can only end when you are abducted.

I just accepted this quest but it freaked out sadly and now I cant get it again. He did his little event thing and then everyone dove into the water. I followed and when i got outside i saw the naga for a split second but then everything despawned. Assuming if i abandoned the quest I could reset it, but doing so left me with no options =(

Currently, when you take this quest, do NOT jump into the water and swim out. Doing so will cause you to leave the correct phase and you cannot get back to it. Since you cannot get the quest again either, if you screwed up you will be stuck until it's fixed.

Also, do not turn in the quest Girding Our Loins (get the axes/armors/helms) after Finders, Keepers (find 5 alliance S.E.A.L. equipment). If you turn in Girding Our Loins, the phase changes because now the orcs are armed again. If you do this after you've started blood and thunder, or after you've turned in Finders, Keepers, but before grabbing Blood and Thunder, your phase will change, and you'll either not be able to complete the quest, or not pick it up, depending on the order.

Safest way to do it, turn in Girding, wait for the phase change, then turn in Finders. After the naga is dead, grab Blood and Thunder and just stand right there until you get abducted. You do not need to be in the water for this. If you accidentally leave the correct phase in any way, you will not be able to advance the vashj'ir quest line or get the seahorse.

I'm starting to get really quite annoyed with this quest. I did it fine on my hunter - just floated around randomly killing mobs and then all of a sudden I got carried away by a naga and the quest completed.

Trying to do it on my DK is proving a pain, however. The waves of naga will not end, and I keep getting jumped by groups of 3-5 of them at a time. I tried swimming up to see if I could initiate the abduction, but all that happened was that I aggroed a nice, large group of the naga swimming up by the surface. The quest will NOT finish, I don't get abducted, and as of this writing, I have died 5 times because the naga all jump me and the NPCs don't take aggro.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it's starting to drive me up the wall.

This quest is really tough as a fresh 80 with no gear! Especially if you're melee. I too kept getting swarmed by mobs, then when I finally got abducted they dropped me and I died. Had to re-do the whole lot. Really annoying!

Well, this has got to be the worst quest I have ever done. Never have I died so much. It bugged out for me a lot, constant resets, and whenever the naga did abduct me, I die from fall damage when I get dropped. I DIE FROM FALL DAMAGE UNDERWATER! How does that even WORK? And because I died, the quest won't register for me even if I stand still for a few seconds.

So...I thought that you actually had to fight during this fight, and between being overwhelmed multiple times, and dying from fall damage just before the quest ends, all of my gear is broken. I set my home to the Immortal Coil, and there seems to be nowhere to repair. Do I just have to creep along doing no damage, or is there somewhere I'm not seeing that I can get this problem taken care of?

I feel like a huge noob. Please help if you can!

There is something to fix your armor in one of the other boats, it's just a little anvil looking thing. I, also, am stuck in a permanent quest loop....I can't stay alive long enough to even try and get taken away and if I get to that point nothing happens. This is, without a doubt, the WORST quest that Blizz has EVER created. I have been working on this quest for 3 days and still I am stuck.

After you get abducted and dropped on the sea floor you should stay or even move closer to the Earthen Ring shaman that appears after a little while. Only then will your quest register as complete.

Don't swim away to pick a herb as I did in my first attempt to complete the quest putting me into a second round of the "endless" loop. Just stay calm and you should avoid getting into a "loop".

I think the best advice for fresh lvl 80 with lousy armors is that you stand behind the shaman and slightly under the sunken ship, at there you just need to fight one or two nagas and wait for your turn to be abducted and you need to be at least half hp to survive the fall UNDERWATER. oh blizzard...

Okey i've been stuck on this quest also and died 20-ish times on my mage alt. before i figured it out. Also as mentioned here before i had to deal with: UNDERWATER falling damage, phase resetting, overwhelmed by not aggro'd Naga's, etc.

As far as i could see it the quest consist of 2 encounter phases:
First phase is the encounter starts and after a while the Shaman NPC Erunak does his trick when called on.
Second Phase starts after that, but don't be standing at the entrance of The Immortal coil any more as 3 Naga's will swim to there and will gank you when on low gear or when alone. I was at the ground in Legion's Fate around coordinates 40.31. Than after a while yells are being made by the the Orc NPC's and being abducted by the Naga's and in time you too.

Just make sure you don't leave the phase or aggro any Naga during the encounter and you be fine as the fall damage is around +5k.

The best way to do this quest while it's bugged is to sit tight inside of the underwater portion of the inside of the ship (I believe I was swiming above the ground). Due to LoS, the mobs will never aggro you, but you're apparently still in range of the event to make everything trigger properly. It didn't loop while I was sitting there, but as I've only done it once, mileage may vary.

After having the same massive problems everyone else has had, I sat myself down there and popped over to WoWHead to see if anyone had any tips on the quest, heard a naga punch me and tabbed over to the delightful scene of being absconded instead of butchered!

As a warrior without much self healing, I had a lot of troubles with this quest. First attempt I died before I was done, because there were too many mobs attacking me at the same time, and the heal from victory rush was unavailable since we dont get exp from the mobs we kill. Second attempt I managed to survive but got to 4k health and died at the fall damage (really? underwater? what the hey?) at the end where the shamans rescue you. Lots of fun.

Edit: Third attempt! Couple naga's were left before the one naga that bumps you on the noggin then swims away with you appear. They hit me as he was about to do his thing, so I was left behind. Tried to swim there, that was way too slow. On to my fourth attempt.

This quest is not impossible!

Everyone else has given excellent advice about this quest - if you're having trouble with this quest, don't go and aggro a bunch of the Naga. Try to find a place that doesn't reset the quest every time you move there, and also allows for you to not get adds. Fortunately for me, I hearthed back home, repaired my entirely broken gear and threw on a tank set that I had from Wrath and I could tank everything fine on my DK in Blood tank spec.

The fall damage from this quest is about 7k, which is pretty dumb, but it's also not the first time I encountered it. In a quest after this - mounting the turtle - I encountered about 3500 damage from falling. GG Blizz.

It's amasing that with all their money and experience Blizzard is still incapable of fixing a few minor scripting errors.

Really, was this internally tested?

Anyway.... level 80 DK alt, wearing mainly level 78 crafted blues, IL226 epic helm, Titansteel Destroyer (ironically replaced this with a higher DPS one handed axe from the quests before this latest quest) I got murdered by these nagas repeatedly.

Armour all broken, the anvil inside the boat vanished and no way to repair my weapon (another oversight from Blizz) I was pretty irritated, tried standing inside or under the boat, the quest reset itself and looped at strange places.

In the end I found standing directly on top of the boat (as per someones suggestion) on the metal band at the apex of the upturned hull allowed the quest to continue to the end (one naga might attack from above but nothing any poorly equipped player cant handle).....however....

The first time I did this I was almost in tears laughing when the Naga came and abducted my ghoul, ignored me and the quest started again, what a joke.

Second time with no pet out worked fine, all in all about 10 deaths, 10 resets and 1 pet abduction later I finished up.

Lvl 80 Frost Mage - After dying over 12 times I finally stayed in the window opening to the left of the main door (from inside) until fight was over and then ventured out - had to fight off one naga and healed enough so that I survived the "kidnapping" to end the quest - I am now down to 50% durability - sure was fun... and a real waste of my time...

This is the worst quest ever. If there was not Thottbot/wowhead for reference i would never have any chance of completing. Since you have to complete this quest before moving forward you are stuck. This is enough to consider quitting WOW. I have died so many times that I am up to two minute wait before I can resurect. My gear is zero. I have six eighties so I am not new to the game. THIS SUCKS!

So with that said the way I got through it was stay just inside the ship underwater when you hear the retreat swim just outide that way you have full heath and get taken. An hour of my life I will never get back lol

In my opinion, the best way to do this quest is by not doing it. If you sit there trying to get it to work you're just gonna get frustrated and probably make it take longer.

Best way to do this quest = find a hinding spot inside/under the boat where you won't aggro anything, then go afk for 15 minutes and come back to a completed quest.

I must have died 8 times doing this quest. I died under mobs of naga until every piece of my armor was destroyed, my gun was destroyed, and I gave up trying to rez my pet. After hearthstoning to Org I repaired (at 30 freaking gold), and then portaled back. I stayed on the ship where it had ported me while I looked up this thread. When I went back to the screen, it had apparently completed the quest and had transported me to the new quest chain. Go figure!

I died many time and then just stayed in the boat out of the battle looking up a solution on this forum. I was abducted while in the air chamber - taken away and when the naga was killed I just stood there. I got credit and then accepted the next quest. The secret is to do absolutely nothing. You might have to go outside but not sure on that.

At first I was having trouble completing the quest. I was fighting a naga when randomly all of the orcs disappeared. I went back inside the boat to look for them, they weren't there so I decided to hop on Wowhead and check for a solution. While I was looking on here, I looked back at my WoW screen and I phased to the correct place, not sure what happened. I guess I just got lucky

First time I tried it it didn't work because I didn't swim up, then I seemed to be stuck on an endless loop that kept resetting halfway through. I swam up and floated around looking for answers on Wowhead when I noticed I'd been kidnapped :)

Instructions:
After you get the quest, just go outside the boat together with the NPC's. They will fight against many naga, stay with them, maybe you have to wait until the next group of naga attack.
You can just stay on the flood for a while. They will aggro and CAPTURE you, so the quest will complete.

Quest works fine, but is still a pain in the ass.

If you have trouble seeing Nazgrim, just abandon the Quest and zone out of Vash'jir (heartstone) to reset your phasing layer.

Get back accept the quest. You don't even need to kill any Naga, simply attack one of them and keep a low profile, so you don't die.

When he is screaming something about, fighting and dieing in honor blah blah, swim in front of him and little higher, don't stay on the ground. As I've seen that there are 2 or 3 scripted Naga that swim by at the end of the battle that will take you away. You probably need to be in proximity to those to be taken or something.

Worked for me on the first try after I've seen those.

Impossible quest for under geared warriors. Killing the Naga does not reward experience and therefore does not allow you to use victory rush to heal yourself. Fighting 3-4 guys with 36k health at a time while you have a petty 20k is ridiculous.

After dieing 3-4 times I eventually said &*!@ it and just sat in the boat where after a few minutes I was captured by a naga without having to do anything

I think I've discovered the cause of this bug. It appears to be caused by changing forms (for example, when I was dropping out of shadowform to heal). When you do this, the entire event will reset to the beginning. After I realized this, I just stayed in shadowform and was abducted within 1 minute of starting. (I'm not sure, but it could also be ANY of your buffs changing that causes it to reset. It would require more testing that I am NOT leveling another toon to 80 to do.)

this quest is so stupid. i think i have just spent an hour dying and trying to "kidnapped" or whatever. but i finally found something that worked. when they were battling, i just went to the top of the water and i finally got kidnapped. the quest didn't complete the first time so i went back to the shipwrecked boat and they were STILL battling. so i went to the top of the water AGAIN, they kidnapped me again, and the quest finally completed. really aggravating quest.

This quest has got to be the most annoying one in the game if you are solo. Playing as a disc healer, and using my shadow offspec to dps quests (so I can get my seahorse and find the gd entrance to the first dungeon so I can continually dungeon instead of quest through cata) has been a little difficult but not too bad. Until this quest.

I find myself running out of mana CONSTANTLY. First I flat out dps'd mobs but could only take a few before I was out of mana. Most of the time I was in combat so I couldn't drink. Using shadowfiend, disperse, and hymn of hope as much as I could was okay, but I was not able to dps continually like I wanted too without fear of the quest resetting. So I sat back and just mind blasted mobs, which kept my mana pretty level until my cd's were up, for 25 minutes.

I gave up and wrote a ticket. 5th toon going through cata quests, I really don't care about the story line at this point.

This is the second bugged quest I've found in as many days and both bugs involved triggering of cutscene events, Cold Hearted and now this one. I don't know how widespread the issue is, but surely something like this would be picked up in regression testing. Well I'm refusing to quest in Hyjal again (would be the fourth time through) so I'm just going to tread water for a while.

Ticket now answered, 3 hours later. And now I can't move on anyway because the stupid thing won't let me select any og the quest rewards. Relogging does nothing, turning addons off does nothing. I have done this quest on two other toons before (a mage and a death knight) and do not remember it taking anywhere near this long. I have abandoned this quest after reading all the previous comments and hope Blizzard fixes this soon as I would really like to do this quest line on my new troll druid. I noticed some of the same things others noted - wave after wave of naga and after something like half an hour I was like wtf and that's when I came here (I didn't remember it taking anywhere NEAR that long on my other toons when I leveled THEM to 85)..... and I am disappointed that it would appear that whatever bug everyone is talking about is still apparent. I hope they fix it soon.... I would really like to finish this quest.

The Quest as been fixed with the lastest HotFix 4.3.0.15050.

You just need to abandon it (if not already done) wait for the shaman(NPC) to kill all naga and retake the Quest right after. After 1 or 2 minutes the quest event is finish and you have been taked away by a Naga.

And all the Quest in Vashir Zone are now fully working.

UPDATE 12/8/11: This seems to work now. I deleted the quest, left the zone. Went back and accepted it (they were still fighting), and a few minutes later got abducted and completed.

The quest line now progresses.

I found this quest to be a really big problem in 4.3, but after several deaths and alot of time, I finally found THE SOLUTION!

My quest kept looping, at the point where we fight nagas, and Legionnaire Nazgrim keep yelling "They swarm us, shaman! Make yourself useful!".

I tried Wowheading it, and tried to combine some of your answers.

So as for 4.3.0 i managed to complete the quest without any heirloom, being a warrior arms.
First try to catch the aggro of only ONE mob, (in my case two meaning death).
If not repeat.
You should survive with enough health to survive the fall >.>.
now this (let me say) difficulty in the (mob killing/ mob´s damage) is a very arguable point in the fact given that the transition between vanilla-bc; bc-wrath is veery very easy.
and all of a sudden this quest is nearly imposible.
I know that i could simply go defensive stance,rend,thunderclap, and pray for the quest to finish.
But... as far as i know this is not done intentionally (so that we could come up with some kind of strategy to play it better....NO!).
This is just neglect and they all of a sudden forget that people "well equipped" happen to be patches ago.
Now the fact of falling underwater at the end of the quest is just the "cherry at the top".
Please Blizzard this is an importatn mission dont abandon it.

I finally found MY problem with this quest, and it was the lack of equipment. :D
when i get my first weapon of questing all of a sudden the game became as easy as always -.-.
So maybe they should give a little help in this quest by giving some quest equippment before doing it.

by the time i completed the quest i was 13k health AND even by doing dungeons (through my leveling) i was unable to get better equip by that point.

HOW TO COMPLETE THIS QUEST:

When the event starts, do not stand in the ship, under the ship, or above the ship like other people have stated. Instead, stay on the opposite side of the event from the ship, standing on the ground. There are some pieces of long, thin ship debris on the ground -- stand on one of those. The event will start and the raiders will come. Don't attack anything. You should be in a place where you hopefully don't get any aggro. If you do, just let it hit you... don't kill it if you don't have to. Just keep standing there and watching. Eventually, you will see "Stand your ground! Fight!" That is a good thing, and they are going into the abduction phase of the quest. When you see this, swim closer to the center of the battle. Stay put there until he yells "We are beaten, escape if you can!" Then swim up about 15 feet. A raider will spawn out of nowhere, hit you a few times, then abduct you.

The key is to be in a place that will not bug the raider that spawns to capture you. If you are under the ship, it will bug. If you are inside the ship, it will bug. If you are too far away from the event, it will bug. If you see "Shaman, make yourself useful!" and the shaman does his lightning attack, the quest has bugged and you were standing in the wrong place.

after spending 2 hours trying to complete this my router crashed and i got disconnected. logged back in sat at shallow's end.

I had the same problem many here have had. Multiple deaths, with no luck. Here is my advise. Stay in the boat where you are not in the water. Let them go out and fight stay in the ship where you first got the quest. I was there tabbed out reading this thread when I was abducted and taken to the right spot.

STAY IN THE BOAT.. this worked for me. But yes, most annoying and frustrating quest I've ever been apart of.

I am pleased to report that I was able to complete this quest today, January 16, 2012.
I could not complete it approximately a month prior, and none of the suggestions on this page helped.
There were three things that changed: a new patch since I last attempted this, I was 2 levels higher, and I was grouped with an 85 guildy who was phased and could not help.

Stupidest. Quest. Ever. I've been snatched my naga about 12 times, and the quest hasn't been completed. I even tried to go up, as seen in the comment below. Nothing works. I haven't died, as everyone else has, but the quest WON'T complete. I hope they fix this, as NOTHING works.

Did this one today, took 23 minutes altogether, i killed naga for about 4 of those minutes, then went and sat on top of the boat, and watched TV for awhile, after another 19 minutes, i got the 'We are Beaten' message and they abducted me, quest complete :D.

Just did this as a 80 Fire Mage.

The key to this is not get aggroed by too many naga. Doing so will overwhelm you and you'll die, making the phase have to reset (in other words, you cannot wipe at any time during this quest). Stand at the other side of the battlefield, opposite of the ship, to get the least amount of naga aggroing you (maybe one or two; three will be way too much for a clothie to handle, and they do hit hard).

Here's the trick to this: do NOT attack the naga with anything. Mages are known for big DPS, and if you hit too hard, the naga will ignore anyone else. This is because Naz will come in after killing his mobs to help you out. You MUST LET HIM PICK UP THREAT or else you WILL die, which causes the loop (the loop seems to happen from the wipes, which perhaps is the problem from this quest: too many mobs with too few NPCs to pick them up). Use any survivability CDs you have (I used Ice Block and Mana Shield). The event becomes easier to survive the more you successfully get to the final part.

When Naz says to retreat, DO SO. Swim up, and the naga will abduct you, thereby ending that part of the quest. However, you need about 5k more health because of when the Shaman rescues you, you'll take some damage. It could be fall damage, which makes no sense. However, it's also possible it could be from the actual explosion of the naga (remember the guts that fly from the naga when the Shammy blows them up?) or collateral from the actual Shammy attack. Either way, it may not be fixed because it may be an intentional act from any of those attacks (though if it IS fall dmg, it has to be fixed).

Anyway, it will help if you do EXACTLY what Naz says except for the fighting part. Use defensive/survivability CDs, let the NPCs do the fighting, aggro as few Naga as possible since they hit hard and can overwhelm you quickly, and retreat when he says to. Whatever you do, DON'T DIE!

Here are 2 ways to 100% beat this awkward quest. 1 of which works...the other well...lol.
1st way port somewhere else or somehow have 1 dude go hulk and tank all naga then take aggro and near death you should be swept away (unfortunately due to the near death thing you will probably die...I did =P) or simply take on the non quest naga =). Take the ones roughly over the boat and just chill there gaining some extra exp and coins and wait for your bad selfs to get all body snatched and junk. (by the way I did it in that order lol...plus I was only like il225 or so and DPS spec...you may fair better with tank, but either way, the point is to lose but not fail ><) IDK if this is better than sitting on the boat I just felt useless there and these naga started coming at me...so I just started mowing them down....then after a min or so I was snatched. I was worried too that I had further glitched it after getting snatched then dying before quest was over was really why I threw that tid-bit in there.

This is my second character through the quest line, and the first time I found it glitched.
After several waves of Naga and no hope of an end, I tried Loudmutes suggestion and sat just inside the ship but still underwater. On the second wave I was abducted.

OK guys found out wat 2 do so please read this:
for the Q Blood and Thunder! all u have 2 do is kill as many naga as u can... this will make them come alot and @#$% and 1 tip: try NOT 2 pull that many, cuz sometimes the pulled nagas will follow u and kill u after The Earthen Ring has killed the Naga Escorting u. well wen uve killed many then there will come a message that goes like this "Fight like the orcs you were born to be! Theres no retreat!" then u know uve completed the part then the dudes will say more $%^& and u "try to escape" but so sadly for you, u dont. u get taken away and the earthen ring help's u...

so thats all, but if ur an lazy ass and dont want 2 read the %^&* i just spended time on writing ill put it on dots ;)

kill as many naga's as u can as fast as u can (renember dont pull 2 many!)
as soon as legionnaire nazgrim yells "Fight like the orcs you were born to be! Theres no retreat!" then just swim upward and try 2 survive
then get stunned and then get escoreted
Earthen Ring helps u, and u fall 2 the ground
go to the clams and %^&* theres like... to ur right
if the dudes r not there... dont worry :) just wait a little (some seconds)
complete the Q and gj and gz
if the dudes do not come after a period of waiting go back and do the process again

GRRR. Did this on an alt having had NO issue on my main; went through the process, got kidnapped and draggeda way by the naga, and dropped...and then no NPCs were waiting for me on the other end. Are you SERIOUS?

after wiping on this many times trying many different tactics explained here... This is what worked for me.

as a mage lvl 80. I got the attention of 3 ( think 1 will do) and kited him around and around the area. he was ALWAYS attacking me and not another NPC. that seems to keep the role play flowing and as long as you can take a few thousand damage by the end of the role play you get picked up then dropped then you walk a short distance following your saviors.
