The tactic which I have seen to work, is to send your pet in as a sacrifice and to use Snake Trap and Ice Trap.
Just make sure you don't fail on Snake Trap and Ice Trap and keep your distance!

As Deth'tilac uses a move which will one shot anything in his melee range that has aggro and also cannot be tamed at high HP. This move also decreases his maximum health by 10% everytime he lands it.

The purpose of sending your pet in first is to use as a sacrifice and then he will charge for the snake trap of which the snakes should draw aggro and he will spam Deth Strike.
During this you should bring your pet back to life to use as a sacrifice once more to further lower his HP. This Ice Trap is used to slow him down if your snake trap is on CD or your pet is not alive and you need time. It's also used to get some distance between you and him so you don't get insta-killed. Make sure you have either enough space between you and him to cast Revive Pet or have enough Haste.

Other tactics also involve a super easy method as described below to have a druid friend to constantly spam Roots and send in sacrificial pet, also a Spider pet can help using web to do a similar method.

If you repeat the cycle of pet sacrifice plus snakes you should eventually get him down to low enough HP for him to be tameable; and have a shiny new purple (epic quality) spider.

EDIT: Snake Traps no longer distract him as before and he can now mostly kill them all with normal melee attack before he lands Deth Strike on them. Also thanks for other tactics!

i just tame this awesome pet at 7am server burning legion quite a challenge indeed. concussive shot (snake trap, ice trap) ress pet and same rotation good luck to all hunters out there

Aye, I just tamed this pet as well. ~70m HP now he's live, he becomes tamable at ~15m health left.

And if the snakes from the snake trap in the above tactic were surviving long enough for him to use his one-shot on them on the PTR, they sure as hell ain't now - he seems to have a very fast but not very powerful auto-attack to dissuade us from lemming-ing him to death.

Luckily for me, after about a half hour of trying to kite him and either ending up too far away or too close (squish!) an awesome (ally, would you believe?) s-priest came along. Turns out, Mind Flay being constant keeps him at his lowest speed, so with her flaying him I could turn and flee far enough to rez my pet and avoid a lot of the acrobatics.

I'd recommend, if possible, doing this with one of them (the Fade helps at the taming part, with all their built-up agg) or a class that has a true taunt, so you have someone to stand back and just play monkey-in-the-middle with the big guy whenever they get too close or you need some time to rez your pet.

That being said, you two that seem to have managed this alone.... JESUS. O_O

I love a good challenge!

I tamed him solo.
The idea is fairly simple, the execution is a bit more difficult. I didn't get a bunch of trash pets. I just used 1 corehound solely for Hysteria, very useful for the tame.

The only way to get his health down effectively is to let him kill your pet. The ability he uses to kill it causes him to lose a nice chunk of his health.

So send in your pet straight away and let him kill it.
Use concussive shot and throw down an ice trap. Make sure that both slows are on him and you're a good distance away when you begin to rez your pet.
Immediately hit him after you rez your pet or there is a chance that he will reset. Also be careful of los, it can be tricky.

I kited him in a circle around Forlorn Spire. Watch out for stray mobs!

Rinse and repeat til his buff disappears, hysteria, abandon/dismiss pet, concussive shot to be safe and tame!

Quick facts:

NPCscan ID: 54322
His spawner is not that long (generic 6-17hr spawner) and he does not share a spawner with any other spider. None of the FL spiders share a spawner.
Hunter only pet. If killed all he drops is a crystalline tear of loyalty & shame.
Molten Will: This prevents taming. Buff is present 20%+ health. Buff drops when Deth reaches 19% health & you can tame. If stressed about the buff watch your Kill Shot button, once that flares you know he is tame ready.
Deth Metal: This is his speed buff, no damage means he is coming at ya like a boss. This is dropped whenever deth suffers damage. There is a small speed sound and visual when he gets this.
Deth Strike: This attack is a 2sec casted attack and will kill you as soon as it's over. This attack cannot be blocked, dodged or parried. Costs Deth 10% of maxiumum health every time he casts this strike. Looks like a giant lunge. This attack is what is going to get you your purple spidy. This is why you need a pet and you need to cast revive, a lot, so you can keep sacrificing it. I used a spider because I knew it would die often while providing me with the handy web ability for emergency 'deth is almost able to touch you' moments. Please do not use a tank pet for this (I've seen it happen.) I only spec'd the pet up to charge. Each time your pet dies it leads you that much closer to taming.
Aura of Deth'spair: If you're unlucky and Deth gets nice and close, you get this debuff, reducing healing taken by 99%.
If there is periods of time he isn't stunned or taking damage he can Evade and run back to his spot, so watch out for extra large gaps between your traps/shots as well as LoS situations.
Tame at max distance. Molten Will might have dropped but Deth Metal & Deth Strike are still very much active. Don't waste your efforts, you can judge if he'll reach you before tame is over and he often casts Deth Strike upon reaching you.
He is a big boy with a big boy hit box, don't get too close because he is hostile. Use your trap launcher to lay those first traps in place.
He is one of the rare spawns that has a title, which just makes him extra spesh.
You don't need to be geared to tame him. You just have to relax and know the mechanics & keep something damaging him at all times.

SOLO TAME
***4.3 snake traps (ST) no longer distracts him like it used to. So I've tweaked my guide a little.***

Important things to know.

Tame a trash spider pet for the 5 second root. Deth casts deth strike while webbed. This tame is not won via DPS, you win via the pet sacrifice (deth strike.) You only need Deth'tilac to deth strike your pet 8 times for him to be tame ready. Sometimes your pet will die without deth strike, but this is rare. Deth 100% casts deth strike while trapped in a web.
I'ts a good idea to clear a L shape from his starting spot, around the corner of the wall to the cliff where there is a large rock you can walk around and back to his spot. The clearing is important because there are 2-3 spiders on the route and more often or not you will have Aura of Deth'spair so you can't rely on self healing to get you through aggro'd mobs plus deth.
If boxed in you can move past Deth as long as your pet has aggro. When he is webbed I disengage ran past him.
I used a three trap trio starting with ice trap, snake trap, explosive trap. I laid them one after the other, about 4 steps a part. You need damage traps because without CONSTANT damage he will speed up or worse reset & evade, so they help.
Concussion shot should be the only shot you care about. As soon as you fire your first CS off you MUST keep it up until end tame, like solix challenge, you don't want CS to fall off him ever. CS is more important than the traps!
If you're worried you will miss when he becomes tame ready a nice tip is to watch your Kill Shot. As soon as it flares (becomes available) you know Deth is ready to tame.
Tame at max distance! Even though he can be tamed he still has deth strike and will use it instantly when he reaches you.

ROTATION
Ice trap > Snake trap > Explosive trap > > send pet in > CS > lay next 3 trap trio ice/snake/explosive >
> CS > revive pet > send pet in > CS > lay next 3 trap trio ice/snake/explosive > > CS > revive pet > send pet in .... rinse repeat until molten will drops.

Once molten will drops the aim of the game is to now get max distance before taming:
> abandon pet > CS > lay ice trap > > CS > cast tame pet > /cheer

Patience and a cool head will win this game. If he reaches you at any stage it's best to FD and walk with him back to his start spot to start again rather then dying and corpse running back only to find someone else trying to tame him.

SOLO TAME: WITH GRIEFERS AROUND METHOD

Ok so things are not so pretty out at Deth's spawn spot at the moment, more then once have I seen him die due to either panicky hunters unloading distracting shots into him or just the general public not realizing he doesn't drop loot. During this chaotic time I've manged to tame him using the below method. I should note this is only if you know as soon as he spawns he is going to come under fire, if you're surrounded by fair hunters who, if you tag first will let you try and tame, use the first method posted above.

Things to remember:
Multiple pets combined with multi shots and hits means his health is going to plummet in secs. I've seen him die a min after he spawned because he death striked about a dozen pets which just hacked away at his health. And don't forget 19% is the golden percentage to start your tame. When he is attacked in such a way he doesn't move much from his spawn spot however if you ended up being top aggro you can kite like the above method.

My method during this is:

Have a corehound with you as well as haste pots / food buffs
Make sure you fire the first shot, forget your traps at the moment, you just want to make him yours. Keep launching snake traps at him.
Use SS and keep it refreshed with cobra shot. You want to make sure you're at least damaging him the whole time.
Next you want to monitor his health while monitoring your aggro, if you're the top aggro lay down your ice trap and use your CS if he wants to come over. If you end up being the top aggro holder kite as normal using your traps, but i found he swapped aggro often.
once he hits 21% pop hysteria and dismiss your corehound
once he hits 20% fire your most damage intensive shot and launch a ice trap, fire CS and swallow your haste pot, by the time you swallow your pot he should be at 19% and tame ready... TAME!
Haste is your best bet for a successful tame in this situation.

Lastly I just want to say congratulations! This is such a nerve wracking tame, it's a total rush, but you get the tame shakes something chronic. This huntress thinks it's awesome you tamed him! Upload your screenies. :D

Just tamed on Borean Tundra (US) with 2 people (Shadow Priest / Me)

1) Place an Ice Trap in front of him.
2) Pull with a Snake Trap.
3) Once all snakes die, send in your pet.
4) Pet dies, make sure you're at range, place another Ice Trap / Concussive Shot and revive your pet.
5) Rinse and Repeat.

The pet is the key... every time it dies, D'T uses Dethstrike, hurting himself.

The use of the Shadow Priest allowed for D'T to be kited back and forth across my Ice Trap.

I never fired a single shot other than Concussive / Auto and Distracting to gain aggro again and give my friend a little breathing room.

5) Get D'T to under 15M HP.
6) Revive/Dismiss your pet.
7) Tame D'T and Enjoy.

Found Deth early in the morning waiting patiently in his little nook when I was using Eagle Eye to poke around the zone while waiting for Skarr to spawn. No one was around so I decided to give taming a go. Solo taming caused me nothing but irritation; most times, all he did was evade, no matter how hard I tried to stay in his LOS. The mobs around respawned quicker at times, and I found myself not only kiting the spider, but training a bunch of frothing and angry spiders from around the area. I did well a handful of times, but lack of sleep = soaring off of the sides of the cliffs. Two friends lent a helping hand, and the tame went disgustingly smoother. I have no doubt that with a little more practice I could have solo tamed, as so many others have, but I just didn't have the patience at this point. His evasion irked me so much that there was no question - he was coming home with me, help or no help. First spawn, Azuremyst server.

Evening all.

Just tamed him on Darrowmere. 12:24 a.m. 6/30/11

It was pretty easy once you get the mechanics down. Took me two tries as I wasn't really prepared for it versus reading about what to actually do.

As one of the above posters said, I tamed one of the yellow lava spiders close to his spawn point and just used that throughout the endeavor. I kited him around his spot then did a U-turn when I got through the other side. Took him back around to his original spot and was about to come back around when I got him to a low enough state in order to tame him.

The spider web ability did come in handy sometimes as it really helped me keep him in check just in case on of my abilities wasn't up.

You only really need
Concussive shot
Ice trap
Snake trap

Throw a ice trap down, then throw a snake trap underneath him to get his attention. As I did this my pet when in as well. I would just take it slow and just tame him when you can, if you don't rush I don't see why you couldn't get him on your first try.

After pet when in a couple seconds later it died, after that use concussive shot if your ice trap is not up. Then when Ice is up throw that out there and throw a snake trap on it, before it or just before the snake..as that's what is going to give you the time necessary to resummon your pet. Rinse and repeat.

Also I had to watch out for one mob, just kill the yellow spider but don't loot him. That way it should take a good long time before it despawns and spawns again. Just be ready in case it does...Don't feign death though or that would reset the hp of deth.

Oh one other thing. Earlier today I saw a BE hunter trying to tame him. Close to where he is on the right is a little space that a person can fit through. You can start the tame there and just run in a complete circle, but I felt for me that might not work so, just something to keep in mind.

Easy way to tame this is : Get a druid friend.
Root Deth'tilac, send pet, wait for the attack, ress pet, rinse & repeat.
Due to being rooted, you won't have to move, or use traps.
Kinda removes the challenge, but its easy.

So I was so happy to see a rare spawn up the first time I checked, and got him down to 20% with the help of a druid rooting him and repeatedly sending in my kamikaze pet. Then as I was dismissing my current pet to tame him, a horde hunter (I'm alliance) who was waiting on the side just tamed him and stole the tame. I had Deth’tilac tagged through the whole taming process. I've opened a ticket, I'm assuming this is a bug, but if you see the opposite faction waiting, watch out!

Edit: Ticket answered: When taming a pet, it is possible for someone else to try for it at the same time even if you've tagged it. In such cases you'll need to try again as we cannot restore the pet to you.
Guess I am SOL, didn't know pet taming ninja's are allowed :( As I said above, to make sure this doesn't happen to you, make sure you're ready to tame at 20% and clear the area of the opposite faction

Was so happy to find this guy, I start my kiting, and when i reach about half his health, a horde comes by, decides to pound on him, a few others helped slightly, but when i ./no like a few hundred times they kindly stepped back, and when Deth got to about 20% i tried to tame, but this stupid warlock, who knew what he was doing, would not stop hitting him, kept pulling aggro on PURPOSE and then sent his warlock pet to have the spider Deth strike himself to death, a worst hunter's dream is seeing a rare pet this close to taming, but having a stupid ass player (not the others who stepped back) to ruin it all

so my point... try to keep it behind the wall, so you wont risk the chance of dumbasses ruining the tame for you

after the snake trap i let my pet to cast a web ( a disposable spider from the area ) macrood so it wont actually went out their at that time, placed traps to slow and casted concussive shot to slow.
sended pet died so it took a chunk rinsed and repeated till a about 20-30 million health i disposed my pet was a bit to soon so took other pet sended it but didnt had agro so didnt die unfortunantly so it took a bit longer MD will probly help on that for future peoples.

Deth'tilac might very well be the mate of Beth'tilac, the boss in Firelands because their names are similar... That's what I think anyway.

His abilities are:

1. Molten WillMolten Will which prevents him from being tamed as long as he has 20% or above hp.

2. Deth StrikeDeth Strike will instantly kill almost all attackers coming from melee range and reduces Deth'tilac's maximum health by 10% and has a short cooldown to prevent Deth'tilac from killing himself on snake traps quickly. You will want to use this ability to lower his health slowly with snake traps and your pet because he has 12 million HP and that's a lot to whittle down through just kiting.

3. Aura of Deth'spairAura of Deth'spair is Deth'tilac's version of what most spiders have to prevent taming strategies involving healing. Since hunters don't heal on their own you can just ignore this if you're soloing.

4. Deth MetalDeth Metal This ability is to make the fight a tiny bit more difficult. He will gradually grow faster and faster until he is eventually moving too fast to stop. Just hit him with something and it should reset.

These are the only four abilities I am aware of that Deth'tilac has. Hopefully they will be added in a "Abilities" tab but until then, enjoy this post!

Just got him on my hunter, I HIGHLY recommend bringing a DRUID. Deth can be ROOTED NONSTOP, making rezing your pet a nonissue. Took me just a few minutes to tame him.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but killing mobs within range of the spider knocks down a significant chunk of its health. Much faster than kiting around with dots for 45 minutes.
Player deaths within range also deduct health.

I tamed him today at ~7:30 AM on US-Medivh. By 5 minutes into the encounter, 2 hunters and a rogue also joined making the fight substantially easier. A tip--make sure you use Concussive Shot and Ice Trap to make kiting easier. He moves quite slowly as it is; Concussive Shot and Ice Trap makes it a crawl. I was able to do quite a few runs through melee range popping Deterrence and Disengage to turn him around (it appeared Deterrence caused his Deth Strike to miss--that or Disengage allowed me to get out of range before the 2s cast time).

Note: If you have competition attacking him with you, make sure you keep aggro the entire time! Do NOT Feign Death or someone else will pull threat and you will be unable to Tame Beast unless you can overpower the threat they have built up (he is immune to Distracting Shot and Taunt).

As a side note, he looks amazing next to Phosphorescent Stone Drake. I was unsure I liked him until I noticed how well the two matched. I will submit a screenshot to show the likeness.

I just Tamed him This morning on Thunderhorn around 8:35 Servertime, It took awhile to get the hang of it but i finally got him.

I just used the Sacrifice pet > Snake trap> revive pet technique
I also had to kite him around a bit. I had hime down to 17% health when i could use Tame Beast

I finaninally tamed him at 8:40 am (server and real time) on Suramar. I had one of my friend's rush his butt straight to me and he helpfully sacrificed himself twice.

I had reached a critical moment where i ran into one spiderling (almost died), then another (almost died), then a third (I was at 10 health), but i feigned death and he ran to my friend who did a small kiting period.

At that point Deth was at 12.3 Million so I had to shout to STOP ATTACKING. In total it was about a 5 minute tame.

Here's how the death toll went:

(I believe) Tyrogen: 1 death
Tyrogen's pet: 1 death
Mynessa: 2 deaths
My pet: 3 deaths

He is a thrill to tame and I wish I could do it again, but like I did the day people could get into the Molten Front and earlier today, I will help out another Hunter.

X: I helped another hunter tame him when I died a few times the day we could get in.
XX: I helped the other hunter tame Solix by placing two traps and giving him some helpful advice.

So I tamed this beauty yesterday at around 1pm (Eu-Auchindoun).

When I tamed him, I was in my BM PvP spec, so I had https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=19387. This helped a LOT and I highly recommend that talent for taming this beast.

Also, don't be annoyed if you don't get this pet first time. Deth evades when the player reaches around 64,65 or, for those who don't have Co ordinates, when you reach the other side of the 2nd 'pillar'. I chose to go back around him (Go back towards his spawn point) when I was at about the first pillar as I was able to root him and run past.

As many have stated before, get a pet with heart of the phoenix - It may only work once in the fight (because of the CD/debuff) however it is a big help if you see the opposite faction waiting for you to screw up. Going away from his spawn point when you're AT his spawn point (in the 'corner' of the outskirts) can be very difficult to get the hang of. I recommend going away from his spawn point when you have a root/trap free and he is ROUGHLY at the middle pillar with loads of markings on it.

Note: Deterrence does not work. If this information ends up being incorrect, I would still strongly advise avoiding the use of it to get past.

That note may seem a bit obvious, but trust me, when you have Deth near the point of tameable, you will start to think you can speed it up - I've been there and I failed. It is supposed to be a long tame, that's what makes it very difficult because you have to be very consistent with your traps and movement.

Additionally, watch out for rogues and always ask people for help. Rogues can disarm your traps which, doesn't make taming Deth impossible, but it means you need to wait another 30 seconds for your traps to come off CD to res your pet.

You CAN solo this tame, don't think otherwise. You should adapt to the movement very quickly if you're not being ganked.

Finally, if there are other hunters there, let them have a chance to tame him. Me and another Hunter were taking it in turns to attempt to tame him. I ended up getting the hang of it much quicker than he did. Don't break the hunter code and ruin his tame, it's selfish.

Aside from all the above information and points, I wish every Hunter the best of luck taming this :)

I started taming him this morning at 11:30 on Stormreaver. Had him to 20% when a group of allies ran in and killed him.. So sad. First time I had seen him without a group of hunters camping him :(

I have to say, it wasn't difficult, but took me a while because I was in a crap spec and in pvp gear and freaking out a bit, so it probably took me way longer than most ;D

Beware of the abusive spam whispers you're likely to get if there are a few other hunters around. But hey, that's what the ignore button is for! Sour grapes aren't going to spoil my excitement of taming this beaut :>

A great way to do this is if you have the space. Tame 5 trash spiders, the web is useful and its faster to abandon then it is to rez. You can abandon a trash pet when its dead. Having a pet abandon macro makes it easier. Keep deth slowed and as soon as she hits 20% abandon your last trash pet and tame. Youll need to get some distance because if your to close and she gets off deth strike you die and she may die to.

Also: She only drops a tear worth 25g. So I hope hunters have common courtesy towards each other and other classes. Its better for the hunter to tame it, and you just come back at a later time, then to have a very ticked off hunter who will be watching you. Hunters will kill out of spite, especially if it was killed out of spite before. Chain reaction sucks.

I just watched an alliance hunter tame this on my server, for second I thought about harassing him but instead I decided to be a nice guy and lay into the spider in order to lower its health enough and feigned when he hit 20%. He tamed it and rode off into the molten landscape with a a sweet new pet.

Just had a chance to tame but as soon as he got low enough in health another hunter pulled aggro and took him. He has a lot of health and it takes a good while to take down I was at it for a good 15-20 mins pathing him around. Just send in snake trap put down a frost trap send and revive pet and you should survive I'd recommend a Spider pet or another pet with a slow ability, it makes it a lot easier. Good luck everyone

Was glad that there was no ppl around messing my tame attempt :)
Gave her my trashpets as snacks, and ressed the last one to take her on 20%. Took some distance and tamed her. Must be my best exprienced tame in whole game, cheers!

On Feathermoon, for like 3 spawns Deth'tilac spawned around 5 minutes after Kirix. So I nabbed Kirix first try, then rushed Dethy and about a minute after me and my helper arrived at the Forlorn Spire, Dethy had spawned!-he didn't expect me to be right :P- So about 30s after spawn, the area got crowded by around 5 other players, they didn't help at ALL. I was kiting him around in his little area while my friend kept rezzing his pet and sending it in to be killed. Around 10-15% -idk because I didnt have UI up- I began taming :D, and bam I got Kirix and Deth within 10 minutes of eachother. I got Karkin, Skitterflame, Anthriss, now Deth and Kirix :D. Only other pets I want now are the SBs, Solix, and Skarr which I have seen 7 times and none being my tame : /.

I ran straight there after my raid, and of course my hands started trembling when the alert went off. I thought for sure I'd find him half-dead and belonging to some other hunter, but shockingly he remained untouched. Perhaps he had just spawned. He's a lot bigger than I had anticipated! I of course began kiting and shouting for my boyfriend to get there on his hunter to help me feed him pets, but when his Pally was closer, he brought him instead. Deth killed my first trash cat, phoenixed and killed him again, and I used an abandon macro as Sasrei suggested (thanks!). After getting cornered once, (deterrence+disengage to the rescue), I realized I could kite him around the gate-like wall with no trouble at all. Another pet was killed and abandoned and my boyfriend's pally took two deth strikes (rezzing quickly in case I died or pulled any yellow spiders - which I never did). Somewhere in this process a very helpful druid stopped to root Deth a few times and do some damage when possible, as well as an alliance hunter with what looked like Solix. I'm not sure if the hunter helped or just watched... I was tunnel visioned. Once he was down to about 23%, I realized the last pet I fed him wasn't trash... it was the pet I had brought to my raid, the one who had been with me all through Wrath, who killed the Lich King, my Spot from Theramore Isle! I started to rez, not wanting to abandon Spot, and my boyfriend ran in to stun and take the final deth strike... 12% HEALTH! Crap, crap, crap, and an alliance hunter nearby, if one person takes another strike, I might lose my chance! I stopped the rez and tried to abandon Spot, with a heavy but racing heart. The abandon failed - I suppose you can't abandon once you've started a rez. The druid was whispering me, saying "TAME IT NOW!", and with a mix of panic and relief I went through the longest rez and dismiss pet of my entire WoW life. The second Spot was safely away, I threw another concussive and began the tame (probably standing way too close to Deth...) and that was it, he was mine.

The details: 10:45pm on Turalyon - US
4 pet kills, 3 pally kills and dps brought him to 12% health (oops!)

My advice:
- Kiting around the wall is easy, and if you hug the edge, you shouldn't pull any yellow spiders.
- Having a friend nearby who can rez helps ease the anxiety!
- Druid + root = win
- Bring trash pets, one with phoenix, and make an abandon pet macro: /script PetAbandon();

Tamed by a goblin hunter around 9:23 PM Malfurion-US server. There were about 5 or 6 of us hunters trapping him constantly and slowing him down, but I think I abandoned my pet too soon. Congrats again to the hunter who got him, I just hope it's my turn soon.

OH MY GOD I got him oh lord my hands are still shaking. I logged on randomly around 7:48 PM Malfurion-US server and there were two blood elves trying to take him down. I quickly got out my sacrifice spider pet and did my traps, did my pet revive, all that. I guess my tame was the first one to work, cause around 7:52 PM I had a new purple spider pet. :) All-in-all about 22 hours of camping, so can't really say it's a 6-17 hour spawn time.

Okay here is my info:
Deth'tilac spawned at 2:20am server time, (Sisters of Elune) about 12 hours after the servers came back up after maintenance. I wasn't there that entire time, but I am pretty confident he didn't spawn during the two short times I was away during those 12 hours.

From what I gather, the spawn timer is anywhere from 8-16 hours, but tends to be closer to 10+ hours.

I had help taming this, and died once in the attempt when I let him get too close.

Argh, just had a "fun" 15 minutes trying to get this tame. First try wasn't successful, since I got cornered while kiting... my own stupid fault I know. Went back for second attempt, since I got him down to about 1/3 health on the first attempt, but just as I was about to start again two horde hunters came and ganked me and started the tame together.

They both got killed quite quickly as they obviously didn't know what to do really, so I res'd and started again. Same story... they came back ganked me and tried again themselves. They were so bad at it that in the end (2 resets later) there were 5 hunters and a priest all up trying to finish him (and that's no exaggeration... wish I'd taken a screen shot now). They ended up killing him so no one got him :( That sort of stuff is what makes me want to put my hunter on a pve server.... oh well you win some you lose some.

It's a shame distracting shot won't work on him, or I might have been able to grab the tame in the end.

I wish there was a way to ban/prevent bad players who grief other hunters trying to tame Deth'tilac and kill her outta spite from harrassing other hunters trying to tame her. We have a hunter on Grizzly Hills named Lethotix that tamed her on the first day of the patch (used the daily reset glitch apparently) and now has made it a point to prevent other hunters from taming as well, both Horde and Alliance alike, claiming that other hunters shoudn't be allowed to tame because then his pet isn't as "special & unique". Doesn't help that his guild, Nothing Personal, is as rotten spirited as he is since they help him grief other hunters & kill Deth'tilac.
Why do people have to purposely try to ruin things for others? I've read so many comments here of others that for what ever jusification they feel warrents it have done more or less the same thing as this hunter and his guild. The whole " If I can't have it, no one can" and "It's olny unique if no one else has it" mentality is a vicious spiral, continually feeding apon it's self and spreading outward, eventually ruining the whole point of the game - to have FUN. And if you thinks it's fun to act like afore mentioned, well... then I'll just keep acting like a meat shield for any hunters I see trying to tame Deth'tilac and try to prevent you from griefing them and killing thier tame.

Dethy's spawn time is about 12 hours, I've helped a phew friends get him and so far and I've seen it spawn 3 times in a row all hitting on the 12 hour mark.

Just came across Deth. A fellow huntress was sitting there trying to work him out. She'd been there longer, so putting personal "OMG SHINIES MUST HAVE" feelings to one side, I decided to help her. It's not like he'll never spawn again, and I got both Anthriss and Magria very early this morning.

:) Feel good about it. It wouldn't have felt like an acomplishment, taking him off of someone who'd been there longer. Treat others the way you'd want to be treated. I lost a spider but I gained a buddy! Us hunters need to look out for each other. We already have enough noob non-hunters killing our rares!

Tamed at 4:45 on Blade's Edge, had to of spawned maybe half an hour ago. Whole experience was incredibly intense and had two other hunters watching me the whole time. Died literally as I tamed him, too. Gotta say it feels pretty dang satisfying.

Tamed @ 7:04 on Quel'dorei, after making a quick guild check for druids, I decided to tame him the hard way.
Truth be told, I expected him to be much harder than he really was. It was mostly just alot of kiting him around back and forth, keeping my generic spider pet on him and using concussion shot right as he hit my frost traps, using that time to rez my pet. As long as you keep hitting him, he doesn't move very fast at all, even missing the timing on a couple of webs with my spider I didn't have any problems rezing my pet before he got in range. The only thing that one has to worry about is kiting too far into a corner and not having room to run around him before getting gibbed by Deth Strike.
I was helped out about half way to the end by a cross faction Nelf Hunter who was actually nice enough to help me get his health down and not try to ninja tame him like so many of the horror stories that I've read.

In the last 2 days since July 6th I have seen Deth 3 times on Dawnbringer server and all 3 times he ended up getting killed by one faction or the other either in spite or revenge. Okay guys I know the game is called Warcraft for a reason, but come on give it a rest already and stop using that as an excuse to be discourteous and spiteful. Let the hunter on scene tame it no matter what his/her faction is. Even if you've been wronged yourself, don't pass it along, be the bigger person.

Not sure if people will read this since its on the last page, but I tamed him earlier today with the help of a mage. What we used is what people said up top, used ice trap and snake trap and kept slowing him down and taking his health down bit by bit. What we also did is we took him around to the 2nd phase of the molten front quests where the shadow wardens are at, the npcs were also attacking him and rooting him so they helped take his health down, around 30% we took him back to his spawn then did blood lust and easy tame.

Edit to clarify, the mage was on the phased part so he could see the npc's, I was still behind on the quests so I couldn't see them.

Just tamed him on Blackwater Raiders with the help of another hunter whom was gracious enough to help and not ninja the tame and a Mage who ice blocked him which worked for a mere 1 second to be able to change directions as we kited him back and forth till we got to the right health level to tame him

Got him after 2 weeks of getting him ganked by alliance, tamed by someone else (even though I had him tagged, there is a bug where others can tame him even if you do all the work), and him not spawning when I was on. Dps'd him down to 13k, popped a haste pot, and tamed him without going below half health.

HUGE thanks to Manipulative, horde warlock, of Runetotem for all the help dpsing him down. Also thanks to the rogue, Cutthroat, who helped though he came in a bit late. =)

I don't know whether to thank the alliance people dpsing him, cuz I have no idea whether they were trying to help or trying kill him. If you were trying to help, thank you. If not, no cookies for you. Go gank elsewhere.

Anyway, got him around 1pm server on Runetotem. Used lots of slowing traps, snake traps, and concussive shots, and haste pot once he was tamable.

Tamed him just a few minutes ago EU-Madmortem with my hunter, 3 spider so far and got the crab as well. If only the owl would be that easy to find.

When I found Deth'tilac I was overjoyed, but I messed up the tactics for capture. When I returned from spirit walk a hunter from the other faction (horde) had arrived. She spammed shots and didn't know about the traps. So when she died I retried, and failed again. Then 2 other hunters, both horde as well, had arrived and tried to capture. I stood by and watched till they died. Then I tried again. While I was snake/frost trapping, both hunters came back, and started nuking Deht'tilac and pulling him away, probably trying to reset him by pulling him too far. But by pulling him to the open fields other players saw Deth'tilac and started nuking him.Some opened PVP, horde and alliance alike, and a war began. In the end Deth'tilac was dead and none of the hunters got him.

My point is, I now have a deep respect for anyone taming this fellah. I saw an orc a few weeks back who had tamed him, and instead of just a /pat I should have made a /bow.
I read some other comments and it is sad that some hunters try to steal the tame from one another, or simply nuke him so no one gets him.

Just right before server shutdown, was camping for Skarr tamed him the top part,then my druid friend found Deth'tilac and helped me out immensly and tamed this perty spider with less than 2 mins prior to shutdown. Very perty spider :D

Well I attempted to tame this beauty today on Winterhoof at 8:2opm server time after a week of looking for him. I had a DK and another hunter helping me. He was at about 5%hp when a mage strolls over and kills him! I haven't seen a post on spawn times (although if there is one I must have missed it while I was raging.) So if anyone has an idea please fill me in. I have been checking all week at different times, I got super lucky today.

As for strategies:
Alone I wasn't skilled enough to do this, I posted in General chat and recruited help that I would gladly pay for. It was super easy with DK chains of ice and a second hunter helping. Got him lower faster than if I was alone. So if you suffer from asses who ruin tames, I think the best way is a faster tame. Next time I'll recruit more. Only took about 5 mins in a group of 3 to get him to 5%. Thanks to those that helped and %^&* you to the mage that ruined my dreams of a purple spider.

- I play a warlock and the way we tamed it was bacicly just him kiting most of the time with MM slows and me just sending my VW in to attack with demon soul up. Killing my pet several times using Feign and Soul Shatter. And whenever both was on cd I just ran out of range and waited to leave combat. I allso killed myself a few times (once with soul stone) to help him tame it before the wednesday shut down. :P If you know a warlock friend ask for help while taming this one. :) It helps a lot. :D And as a payment tell them your gonna name the pet after them. >:D

Will strongly put my monny on using a crap like karkin or alike.

first of all u get pin, then it got taunt that will reset after You resummon it.
and then it have charge ofc

then u want to have consuesive and desengage as bag up if u fail a sum or something go wrong.

now the trick

now after u summoned ur pet, put it on stay, scatter him while u drop ur traps as u run past him and let the crap taunt it.

this will give u a window to summon ur pet agen since he needs to get to ur pet, and pass ur freezing trap on the way back, and u can even use explotion trap to keep him from evading

remember that ur pet uses taunt so u can keep dmg up on him at all time, witch will slow him quite alot

i would go surv for imp traps and imp chimera shot for daze and ur freeze trap will imobelise him for 4 sek when they are triggered.

just keep in mind that its better to run abit longer and have time for pet ress, then taking a stupid chanse, and u need to revive ur pet and dismiss it befor you can tame ^^

a litle do not use advice at the end, be carefull with feint death, if your unlucky he will evade and that is just to argh gl guys and girls and have fun

Im assuming Deth Tilac doesnt have a set timer, seeing as I camped him three times.

First time
10:30 PM,
I went for the tame but an alliance hunter agroed and stole him :(

20 Hours after the tame,
he reappeared at
6:00PM,
and I successfully tamed him.

And then not even 5 Hours later,
At 11:00 PM (A few minutes ago)
he respawned and I helped my hunter friend get him.

So Im assuming the spawn timer is set at random.
Because going from 20 hours, to a 5 hour spawn, is a pretty big difference.

Just tamed Deth on Durotan at 10:00pm server time. Was a fun tame. Had a mage come in at the last minute and throw a freeze on him while i revived and dismissed my other spider. Very fun tame! Same instructions as everyone else has said. Keep CS on him, Serpent Sting, use traps and a sacrificial pet and tame. Killed me right as tame finished cause i didn't give myself quite enough room even with CS and ice trap on him. Oh well, still got him.

Just got him at 5:19 AM on Crushridge-US.

Entrapment is amazing. He won't kill your pet unless rooted, so I'd alternate between snake and ice traps to get a moment to res my pet. High pop server and I got lucky nobody was around to interfere. This would've been a pain in the ass to get at any other time.

Finally after having him ninjaed once and killed while I was kiting him around, I finally got him today on my hunter!

Had the help of my buddy, who made the whole process a heck lot easier! Thanks Sang, you know who you are!

We stood on opposite sides and took turns attacking / sending pets in / launching traps (ice and snake) and using feign death when he got close.

Still took a good 6-7 min.

So happy I have this beautiful pet!

Just tamed him on Antonidas. Logged in and npcscan went off, giant spider standing in front of me. D:

No other hunters were around, lucky for me, so I went ahead trying to kite and trap him. He killed me a few times, and I reset him on accident by going around the corner. (not a lot of wiggle room if he gets towards where you run to his spawn area and Deterrence doesn't always work to avoid getting one shotted as you try to run past.) Others have said they could kite him around the spire but it just kept resetting it for me, so I'd say it's a bit risky to try that.

Luckily for me, my friend (fellow hunter) got my whispers of 'HELP ME HELP ME HELP ME BIG SPIDER!' and high tailed it out there. Went really easily with two hunters sacrificing their pets and throwing down traps and Concussive Shot.

And apparently you don't have to have agro the entire time to tame him. My friend and I were ping ponging him back and forth, when he finally got to 20% health I hit tame, and he stayed focused on my friend the entire time I tamed him.

And has anyone else noticed the lovely flames that flare up on him?

Just tamed him at approximately 11 PM server time on Moonguard on July 20.

I decided to try it solo with my trust Kirix. As I started, I had a Pally tell me it was impossible. The first time I accidentally forced him to evade. The second time I kept him kited, using my pet whenever I could revive him to cause him to use Deth Strike. After finishing the tame, I happily sent a tell the the pally to share my success at soloing Deth'tilac. Definitely not an easy tame, and I wish I had haste buffs to speed up revive pet times.

This was probably one of my greatest experiences in WoW and was very satisfying.

I suddenly realised i should be taming him...panicked when i couldnt find my tame beast icon...as i was looking through my action bars he caught up with me..used his ability..not only was i dead - he was dead too! GUTTED....will try again next time...be prepared people - have moved my tame beast icon so i will be able to access it straight away

Some observations / strats that have to do with taming him on a PvP server:

The competition for this guy is fierce on my PvP server. I had actually helped another guildy tame him just over a week ago before deciding that it was high time to get my hunter (because I wish my main could have pets!) phased and into the Molten Front for myself. Having watched his escapade, I didn't expect to tame this one for a long time yet. Amazingly, I got him two days ago with the help of my guild.

Here are a couple of things I noticed about both times that may help other hunters. Keep in mind it is a PvP server. For full accounts read it all - if you just want some facts read the notes:

My guildmate's tame: He said in guild that D'T was up and asked if we could go help him. When we all got there someone had pulled and was trying to kite it around the area. One of the other hunters in our guild who had tamed him already was palm-facing at this and showed ours how to use the spider to take his HP down quickly. We then proceeded to take D'T down to below 19% while the 15-20 or so people milling around spent the remaining time terrifying us and trying to kill it.

The hunter it was agroed on simply could not get distance and tame. Deth'tilac was perilously low (within a Deth Strike of killing himself). The other hunter kept getting out at the last minute several times before ours finally distracting shotted and popped haste CD's to tame. The other hunter was understandably upset, however, we had been doing the work on the fight regardless of who tagged it and we did not want to see it kill itself. Distracting shot was recently changed not to affect D'T, however, which comes into play in my own tame.

Some notes:
-It was crowded, both horde and ally and if you intend to get this guy you had better bring gank protection at the very least.
-He was up in a high traffic area, meaning the hullabaloo was garnering a lot of attention. The sooner you can get there and tame the better.
-It will fill up fast and each new person is another target for D'T to Deth Strike suicidally. Plus, most seem to think he drops some kind of loot and will try to kill him.

My tame: I'm doing dailies on my druid when my brother calls to me from the next room and goes, "Uh, Rac, there's a really big spider up. I think it's Deth'tilac. I just flew over it on my way to the bombing run." I start to freak out, logging on to my hunter who is parked at Malfurion's Breach, quizzing my brother about the location. I mount up and sprint over to find him behind the Spire. No one else seems to have noticed him yet.

Instantly, I ask my guild for help. Four volunteers head my way shortly after I tag him and start sacrificing my newly acquired Ankha to bring his HP down. I messed it up the first time and managed to disengage off of the cliff. Somewhat more frantic I got back and started again.

For the successful tame, my brother and I juggled agro between me and my pet and his prot pally for most of the time. Standing at opposite ends of the area behind the spire, I would send my pet in, let D'T come towards me, then have him nuke the pet. Having done this, he would turn back to my brother who could easily stay out of his reach while I rezzed my pet. I would misdirect my pet again and start to nuke, using the glyph of misdirect to keep constant threat on the pet. We'd rinse and repeat. When my guildies arrived I had them run into melee ranged to get one shot as well just to speed it up.

There was a terrifying moment when one had agro and I couldn't get it back. I tried Distracting Shot, which doesn't work anymore. Eventually, I had the DK with agro jump off the edge of the cliff and fall to his death before D'T turned his attention to me. At max range, I popped berserking and a potion of speed and finished the tame just as he crawled into melee range.

A few notes:
-Serpent Sting to keep him from moving fast. It will take his speed buff off while you rez your pet.
-Stay max range as often as you can and always before trying for a Deth Strike.
-Friends make this easier. They provide protection from gankers at the very least.
-Time is of the essence - people started to arrive just as I finished my tame, meaning we were lucky enough to be the first to spot him and react quickly enough to tame without being harassed.
-There was a rock spire in the middle of the area - we managed to use this to get him stuck more than once, buying time to rez my pet. I never had issues with LoS or evade bugging him.
-On the whole, it probably took around 3 minutes from pull to tame.
-Tell your help outright that you're taming him not killing him. It turns out the guy who had agro right before I tamed actually thought we were trying to kill him, hence his confusion when we asked him to jump off the cliff. Afterward he was like "What does he drop?" making me quite grateful that he didn't question orders and jumped clean off the cliff when we told him to.
-I recommend having help watching for him, be it from hunters who have him already or from clued-in guildmates.

530 thunderhorn server deth spawned again and so on my 3rd attempt and horde hunter came up and started to kite him. he kited him all the way to the front door of molten front where he was finally killed and then i was able to tame it :) finally. im so happy to finally get my cool purple spider.

Freaking bugged as hell!

I am from blackrock. Forget taming it there, there are a billion hunters horde and alliance duking it out. Horde hunter might steal it, alliance hunters will kill you.

After a particularly malicious priest (Cottonbawlz) killed skarr when i was taming, I just transferred my hunter to a low pop server just to be able to tame every rare in a few days. It has worked like magic, tamed 5 rares in one day so far, and its just 4.30pm. LOL.

With regards to Deth'tilac : I read all the strategies for solo taming him, and when I finally saw him, I tried. 2 deaths... and I did a /who, whispered a mage, offered him 1k gold for help.

The mage kept aggro, kited him, while I kept on sending pet to be sacrificed. Another hunter, randomly joined in and actually HELPED by dpsing him!

It was such a pleasant surprise, after the bull*!@# at Blackrock!

Got him down to 20% and below, but then started having problems. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I CHANNELED TAME BEAST... IT WOULDN'T STAY CHANNELED. It constantly broke, I asked mage to stop DPS'ing, hit the spider with hardest shots, got aggro once, died..

Spirit run back, rezzed, tried again.. but this time when i got aggro, i feigned death, so deth'tilac reset!

So we started again.

Only thing that worked was when the mage froze him in place... but the duration of the freeze was too less compared to tame beast channeling time, so asked mage to pop time wrap next time he froze deth'tilac. Even that didn't work.

Finally.. put down another ice trap, and then somehow the tame beast channeled, when around 18% of tame beast channeled, asked mage to pop freeze and keep him in place, and finished taming!

I do not know why this bug was there... It was super annoying!

Named him "HardToTame".

Just tamed him on my hunter on Greymane at 12:00pm sharp game time, And I would love to thank everyone on the Molten Front today for helping lower his health so I could tame this Willful spider and call him my own.

I kited him all the way around and to the middle of the battle and was very lucky to have some helpful hands. It's a good plan for any hunter who wants this pretty spider. All you need is some willing people and it would go much faster than doing it on your own.

Tamed him on Gilneas at about 10:45PM server. Easy, but very tedious and long the way I did it (kited in circles). I just attacked, concussive, frost trap, attack, repeat. Easy as heck, but took a long time. He never killed my pet though - I figured he would, but during the entire fight, my pet was alive until I dismissed it to tame Deth.

I noted another hunter just standing there and watching for the entire 25 minutes. During the fight I was afraid he was going to try to steal the tame, but he didn't - he just watched. I would gladly help others tame it if I see them. Fun tame, glad I got it.
Right after, Skarr spawned, went to tame and another Ally Pally went in and killed it. Gee, thanks. He told me it was "my mistake for not getting to him first". :/

Just tamed him on Deathwing. Easier than I expected, just keep concussive shotting him with frost traps and snake traps untill he is low enough to tame. He moves very slow when hes being attacked.

Hey people, never normally get involved with these forums, but tamed Deth'tilac this afternoon (16:00) on Maelstrom (Horde) so thought i would share my encounter with you :)

After reading this forum and many alike i decided to put up a tent and camp out for Deth'tilac. I had only been sitting around for about 1 hour and he appeared right in front of me, before i had time to react, he one shotted me. Luckily when i went back no-one had tagged him. I tagged him immediately, laying down frost traps and snake traps as suggested, whilst spamming concussion shot. I had a spider pet which was handy because of its web ability, i sent my pet in numerous times as a sacrifice and then revived it when Deth'tilac was focused on snake trap. After kiting him around abit, he was at around 70% hp, and out of no where about 4-5 alliance appeared, i thought 'crap', i was sure they would kill me and steal him as there was a hunter there aswel. But they infact decided to help me! Many of them sacrificed themselves to get the health pool down (one unknowingly so) and we eventually got him down to 20%, where i dismissed my current pet and tamed Deth'tilac :D

Just goes to show that not everyone is a ninja or unsporting player and was very satisfying to find this out in such a 'team player' way, despite being on a pvp server and being on opposite factions.

Just would like to note, that he had 77mil hp not 38mil, and make sure you always have los, i resetted him once whilst kiting round a corner -.- And always keep dots up!

I almost tamed him 10:30 Exodar (PvE) server, but another hunter stole the tame. Oh well I guess.

Edit: The strategy was the simplest of all the pets imo.

1. Get a Spider. Any spider will do.

2. (OPTIONAL) Survival with entrapment makes this a lot faster.

3. Pull DT with CS and put an Ice Trap between you and him. Keep CS up at all times and use Ice Trap on CD.

4. Keep a SS on him at all times. He gets a stacking movement speed buff when he isn't taking damage.

5. I kited him back and forth on the are he spawns. Note that Deth Strike is a cast, not instant, so i would back walk into his melee range with Ice Trap and Disengage back. (Reason is because kiting him through/by quest zones attracts a lot of attention)

Killing Time

1. Send in your spider whenever you can.

2. Once your Spider dies, you need him up to sacrfice again. Get enough room first. make sure SS is up along with CS and Ice Trap. Then simply rez your pet and repeat.

3. If you have Entrpament in Survival spec, use snake traps and DT will kill those with your pet.

I saw Deth'tilac at 9:00 A.M. server time (Darrowmere) and accidentally disengaged off the cliff side my first attempt.

2nd and 3rd attempts Deth'tilac evaded due to Serpent Sting falling off it and being too far away from the spawn.

4th attempt was golden, and half-way through the process a friendly druid and shadow priest lent their abilities to make the tame a breeze. Little bit of pressure as I dismissed my current spider pet (for the web shot ability) and hit the tame beast ability when Deth'tilac was at 13 million HP.

I'm pretty sure Deth and Skarr are set to spawn close. Both times I have seen Deth spawn, each time Skarr has spawned 2 or 3 minutes after. Might've been a coincidence but just letting you guys know :)

3PM (servertime) Deth'tilac spawned on Area52 I got to work on him solo & tamed him! =) it took a half hour or so to get him but I followed a video I found where this guy was soloing him always behind the wall & the info given on here - had a spider to help me out to! =D yay! once I did tame him he did his Deth Strike attack on me a troll hunter was on the side /cheering & congratsing me & when I died after the tame he laughed but so did I since I got it tamed! lol >.<' it was close call on the tame not happening! :O

Just ATTEMPTED to tame this guy on Cenarion Circle. I tried the same tricks as mentioned above: send pet in for sacrifice, distracting shots mixed with ice trap and snake traps. Had him ready to tame when a member of my own alliance, a nightelf hunter, and a troll mage both came and would not stop shooting him no matter how many times I yelled or tried to get the troll to see what I was doing. Neither cared....they eventually killed him. In the end, someone said that was a waste and the other hunter replied "I know right? I should have been the one to tame him."
Seriously, he killed him because this hunter (me) got to him first and the troll helped probably because he's opposite faction being an a$$. All that work for nothing. Sad day... =(

Just tamed Solix AND Deth'Tilac.

Both were up at the same time and my NPC-SCAN was blinking like a mofo.

Solix, believe it or not was harder than Deth because I needed a guldie to assist me - there's a Shadow Wardens daily in the Ingenous Depths and it's a HIGH TRAFFIC area - but I was able to kite him around since he was like 2 shotting anyone who interfered LOL. Solix eventually dropped his buff and then it was an easy tame.

Deth was easier because I was kiting him back an forth behind that spire thing and it's pretty much out of sight. Another hunter showed up, but I had so much aggro nothing he did pulled Deth off me. Keeping Serpent Sting up too lets you maitain good aggro in case some idiot shows up and tries to ninja him from you.

Basically, for Deth, you send your pet in and let it die - you yourself must always stay at range and use CS to slow Deth down while you kite him back and forth along the ledge by the spire where he spawns. You need to revive your pet and send him in again to die, 4 times total I believe. You keep reviving and sending your pet in to die over and over again because Deth uses a special melee-range attack that will 1-shot your pet AND deal a big chunk of damage to himself. That's the trick. Keep sending in your pet until Deth drops to 20% health.

(If you keep Deth at max range and CS shot him constantly, you'll have enough time to revive your pet without getting in melee range of Deth yourself and to get back out to range again to keep CS + kiting him.)

---VERY IMPORTANT. Once Deth is at 20%, if your pet is dead on the ground you won't be able to tame Deth until revive your pet and dismiss him! Even if your pet is dead on the ground, it still counts as an active pet - so you need to dismiss him yourself. You can't dismiss a dead corpse of your pet either, so make sure before you finally go for the tame on Deth, that you revive your pet one more time and then dismiss him yourself. Otherwise, you'll get a "You already have a summoned pet" message when you try to tame Deth. I screwed up the first time not realizing that, but was lucky enough to figure it out before Deth ate my brains.

So once you finally dismiss your pet, pop Deth with one last CS, get to max tame range and hold your breath as you claim your pretty purple spider!

So to summarize:

1. Get your pet out.
2. Stand at MAX range and shoot Deth with a good high-damage shot to get good aggro. (Arcane Shot is fine. Aimed Shot for good measure.)
3. CS Deth and Keep CS'ing him every single time it expires on him to make sure he's constantly slowed (Don't spam it, just use it when it wears off on Deth.). Begin kiting backward along the ledge - don't kite too far you'll run into Flame Druids. Maneuver back behind the spire when you get too far away from it to avod aggroing those annoying druid mobs.
4. Kite him along the ledge and send in your pet.
5. Pet will die, and this will take out a chunk of Deth's health.
6. Stay at range, keep CS'ing Deth and revive your pet. At max range, you'll have time to revive your pet right after you CS Deth.
7. Send in pet again. Let it die. Stay at range. CS Deth again. Revive Pet.
8. Repeat #7 a couple more times until Deth is at 20% health.
9. At 20% health, revive your pet 1 more time, but do NOT send him in anymore. Dismiss him as soon as he's up.
10. Stay at range. One more CS shot on Deth and then start taming!

I see a lot of complaining over people having Deth (and the other spiders) stolen/killed/etc on them.. while I've lost a couple spawns to people and it's very frustrating, it's part of the challenge, guys. If you and only you could damage/tame the thing once you tagged it, how is that challenging? Sure, the mechanics for Deth are time consuming, but it's practically ensuring you a tame.

Believe me, I understand and know how it feels when someone is inconsiderate and pulls something like that, but if they just handed you all the pets it wouldn't be a challenge, now, would it?

Found Deth'tilac with 6 minutes to go before maintenance. Call a hunter buddy to help with the tame, and prepare for a new pet.....Except this happened.

Hunter buddy pulls. I didn't have a pet out since i was camping Skarr when I found out that Deth'tilac was up. I try to call my wolf and i get the message "Your pet is dead." I go through the entire cast of Revive Pet and the message "You cannot control exotic creatures" appears (I was in MM, but I'm pretty sure that a normal wolf is not an exotic pet). So, we got Deth'tilac down to under 20% and i tried to tame since my pet wouldn't rez and wasn't with me. I couldn't tame because it said that my pet was out. So i cast Revive Pet, go through the cast, and my pet doesn't get rezzed. I call him again and "You cannot control exotic creatures" appears again. Of course, time is winding down so much that i have 1 minute and 15 seconds left before the restart. I'm thinking, "Maybe it's just a bug and i'll kill myself while the hunter friend kites him, then i'll rez my pet or tame." Nope. Same problem and time ran out. The loop i was stuck in completely lost me a tame on Deth'tilac. I was insanely angry. After having Skarr killed while I was taming a week ago, this was the worst thing that could happen.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Did I forget something in the heat of the moment?

Notes: My wolf is a Winter Wolf from Dun Morough, definitely does not require BM
---------He was under 20% when i attempted the tame
---------I had a total of 4 pets with me, so that i would be able to tame a 5th

P.S. Another problem: I dismissed my wolf when i began to camp Skarr......how did he die when he never even got into combat?

I just got this bad boy thanks to 3 hunters, a druid and a pally *from what I saw* I honestly didn't do too much, I tried to dps him down using my snake trap and pet, and of course used ice trap to slow him down. I was unsure when to start taming, but I guess when he's at 1/4 health is a safe bet to start taming. I thought I wasn't going to get him because I couldn't get aggro, but eventually I got the aggro and the tame. I named him Skittlez. Thanks A LOT everyone. For the person who told me he spawned and the people who helped me tame. I missed Skarr by 15 minutes an hour earlier >.< But I also got to help someone tame Kirix. =) Good luck everyone! Managed to tame Deth'tilac at 11.25 am on Neptulon EU with the help of my friend (who's a frost mage) and some random melee who almost !@#$ed it all up cause he melee'd him and died :p..

I tried to tame Deth the day before as well around 22.35, but when she was just under 20% health, allies were attacking her and another hunter was sending in his pet as well; i was stupid enough to lose aggro which broke the tame; by the time i re- established it Deth was down to less than 1% health cause of this hunter trying to 'help' me out.. I tried to get the tame off in time but was unsuccessful. Comes to show that 'helping' can work out badly :(.. was so frustrated after this..

This morning i logged on and Deth was right in front of me: so i began the process of kiting her and went to the questgiver area; It wasnt that crowded this time so when she came close to the 20 % mark (i had sacrificed my pet 6 times or more already) i dismissed my current pet. Suddenly deth was down to 12% cause of a death and then a melee jumped in and he was down to 2%.. thank god i managed to tame her at that moment in time cause i saw yesterday's sword of doom hanging above me again ..

So happy that i have Deth now tho: she really is a beauty; respawn seems around 12 hours in this case: cannot be sure though :). Good luck on getting her; small detail: was a horde hunter around as well when i tamed her but he did not interfere and let me tame her. Thanks whoever you were :).

Tamed her the 'normal' way: kept SS up, used frost trap, snake trap and concussive; SV specced and used solix for the webs!

I think it's poor to steal a tame. Happened to me and I think the other guy is straight up rude.

Unless you were the first to find said beast and attempt to tame it, end up 3-4 times dead while learning, then another hunter comes by with help and ends up dead too, and then you lay a frost trap and taunt the beast, managing to tame it in the end after all that work.

I know, i know, it's not about this spider, but after reading Elliran's comment, this example had to be written.

Found Dethy this afternoon and was not hassled at all as I got in a few taming attempts (not many people go poking their faces around that big wall on my server). After a while, I got him down low enough to tame and had to rez and dismiss my trash spider pet. Got the pet rezzed, went to dismiss and had a UI error message that covered my screen. In my panic, I forgot to recall the lil trashy pet and Deth'tilac killed himself with it. I just sat there for a few minutes in silence. ;_;

So my warning to other hunters is make sure he doesn't suicide himself on your pet like he did for me!

At least I know the exact time that he died I guess. /sigh.

EDIT: Just tamed him early this morning (7/30/11 @ 1:30am EST). Got my bf who plays a pally (ilu Goodoldlefty!) to stun him when it was actually time to tame (decided to minimize all chances of having a repeat of the last time). No one was around to hassle us -- so night time/early morning may be your best bet for finding him and successfully completing the tame. I kept checking the spawn point during the day and would frequently see both Horde and Alliance hunters pathing through every 15 - 20 minutes or so.

I did this as BM (not specced for traps) with a Cinderweb Creeper pet as sacrifice. Got my info on how to do this tame from all the posts above this one. :) Did not have to try using any haste/speed stuff, but that's because nobody was around to bother me.

Tame time: 10:20 AM

I was camping for Deth´tilac the night before, he spawned at 5:19 AM sharp. I tried the taming like BM with spider pet, the web ability is really important when some1 tries solo taming. I specced Trap Mastery and Entrapment for it, and it was really handy. Started with Ice Trap, Concussive Shot, Serpent Sting, and put down the pet Web ability when I have seen he´s casting his death strike. Then another Concussive, Snake Trap, Disengage and Revive Pet.....rinse and repeat.
I died twice - 1st time because of wrong trap timing, 2nd time he got me with his death strike within taming, but nobody was there at the early morning time, so I was all alone and free for the attempts. With my 3rd try all went good, I got him to 23% and was prepared for last round killed pet- revive pet - abandon pet and taming.....when some priest came, started attacking, pulled aggro and killed Deth just in seconds. Probably thinking it´s a part of quest there..:-(

So....I had to try another time then.
I respecced for it MM with the same trap specs at SV tree like before, because I´m more comfortable with it (raiding) and can pull more damage then BM. For this tame really goes the shorter the better, because of all the things around which can go wrong. So I decided to take another haste buff and prepared taming-pet abandoning macro too:

/use Potion of Speed
/script PetAbandon()
#showtooltip Tame Beast
/cast !Tame Beast.

Today morning I haven´t too much time and was managing my goods at AH, when fellow hunter from my guild /w me: "Hurry, Deth is up!" Only 10 min left till my leaving to work....but I hurried there anyway, afraid there will be some1 taming him already. Luckily, only 1 pile of bones under Deth´s legs, so I took a deep breath and started with taming. My fellow hunter was just at the bombing quest, so I started alone. I pulled Deth to half the health, when he returned and send his pet to help. Another ppl started with helping, because I have seen druid roots 2-3 times, and in no time his health was low and I abandoned pet and started with taming. Had to shoot to him ChS to take back aggro and start once more, but all went good and I have done the whole thing at less then 10 min....and left for work happy with my new exquisite pet.:-)
Gl then to all other hunters with this tame!:-)

If you notice the only item they drop is called Crystalline Tear of Loyalty , and the description of that item says "The desire to serve as a loyal companion coalesced into a single priceless crystals" and that is the way of Blizzard to say you shouldn't be killing these spawns but instead hunters should tame them (notice the part of : The desire to serve as a loyal companion = A hunter pet)
So yh if a wasnt the first one to notice this sry then i didnt read trough 178 comments ( or something like that) to know if i am stealing someones post or not, but i reached to this conclusion myself so just wanted to put that out there.

PS: There are 10 rare spawns that came in , in patch 4.2.

Wow just tamed Deth'tilac on deth'ramar was quite the rush. I had help from a awesome Warlock by the name of Grokdae, I can't thank him enough :). I used all the tricks in the book and my warlock friend did as well, however i made a rookie mistake of missin the final ice trap so he got up on me way too early and Bam........well i thought that was that but me new warlock friend was keen for another try and YES success. It's great to come across players still willing to help fellow players out.

I just saw this one on my server, 11:30p.m. Garrosh. I didn't get the tame though, because a couple troll priests and mage thought it would be the %^&*s and giggles to take it away from us hunters. It's really not worth killing these rares, just let a hunter tame them. I'll update, if I ever manage to tame this one without some horde bastards killing it.

Deth'tilac spawned at 8:00 p.m. on Wyrmrest Accord tonight. I started the fight with the help of a fellow guildie hunter and we were doing great up until I had just started to begin the tame. A pally came out of no where and started DPS'ing Deth. We tried to warn him to stop, but it was over so fast. Suddenly words flashed across my screen saying the tame failed because because the creature was dead. Deth had killed the pally in one smack right before it died itself.

I wanted to strangle the pally, but he said he had no idea and had never heard of such pets. He claimed he figured it was for a quest and he was trying to "rescue" me. We only half believed him but there was nothing to be done. T_T

I guess I go back to waiting and camping. I've seen Deth three other times all between 8:00 - 8:30 p.m. on this server so I'm hoping there's a pattern of sorts.

Just helped my BF tame this bad boy, was rather easy. He was in BM spec, I am an Arcane mage. We used the sacrificial pet, I kept it slowed and popped my mirror images and blinked when he got close to me. I had agro entire time until his shield was down. I then invised to drop agro so he could tame. Was rather easy and only took about 7 or 8 mins. BTW it ignored the snakes and ice traps. I am not sure if it is something that has been fixed or not but, he never set them off.

Today was the most horrible day.
After i found Solix, i got killed 3 times due to the wrong aspect. Then finally i succeeded, until the last 3 seconds of tame, i got killed by horde. Horde hunter took Solix. He tried 8 times with the wrong tacs, and when he saw my tactic, he got him. I was crying.
Then i found Dethilac. Well, thats better then Solix, so why not.
Didnt went well either, i got him down very very slowly, so i decided to have a long kite path. When i reached Malfurions breach, with many npcs and players, it went faster. Then i died from a hostile enemy, and ressed. When he was possible to tame, i got the message: You have already an active summon. Now i was angry, cause i hadnt. So revive pet, dismiss pet, tame. But somehow the ppl dont understand its a hunter tame, so they decided to attack further, and Dethilac died. Crying even more.

I just got deth tilac finally! He spawned at 4:45am server time. i have camped over 40 hours and found him several times. he was always either stolen by another hunter or killed :( I tried yesterday at 7am to tame him alone but i couldnt keep him behind the building for fear of death and sure enough he was killed again, so i just paid a hunter i knew already had him and a druid who could root him to come help me without having to let anyone else know he was there, me and hunter sacrificed pets, then druid rooted at 20% health and i tamed him without him ever getting near me! well worth the money i paid and i owe them both big time :D my daughter named him Jenova :D

Finally got this guy, and is so often the case it was a fluke that I found him on his own, after so many failed camp sessions, ganked tame attempts, and countless instances of seeing a mob of horde come swarming round the wall when he's up and often ending up killing him in the process.

I'd given up on him after so many of these sad stories, and decided I would camp solix as a poor second option (Kirix and Deth were the only spiders I wanted originally), but first things first... camping Magria as my last spirit beast. Whilst doing this I noticed the time was about 12 hours since I'd witnessed the most recent loss of deth the night before. Popped over quickly for a look and of course NPC scan goes off, but that doesn't really mean anything these days since so many ppl run around the area with deth out. Clicked the target button just in case, and see it really is deth, then pessimistically decide it will already be surrounded by other hunters, but decide to go watch the show anyway. To my amazement he's sitting there all on his own with no one even in the near vicinity! Heart racing I start the tame attempt (I've started the process so many times now that I can almost do it in my sleep), all the while expecting other hunters to come and zerg the area. I made the mistake on my first attempt last month of getting myself cornered against the wall, and then ganked after my corpse run so I was extra careful this time, and kept a wide berth when circling back during the kite.

Anyway enough rambling (I'm still high on the adrenaline of taming whilst expecting ppl to show up at any second), I tamed him with an almost disasterous few seconds of panic at the end where I let his speed get too high whilst reviving and dismissing my pet for the last time!

I don't think there's much to add that hasn't been said above already, but I can again confirm the sequence of ss, cs, ice trap, snake trap, ss, cs, revive pet (spider of course), rinse repeat works a treat. It's actually not that hard if you get him to yourself and can keep your cool (easier said than done when the heart is racing!), and no haste buffs or hysteria are needed (although helpful of course). Make sure you do keep ss up, since I let it drop a few times whilst reviving my pet and if he's not getting damage he does speed up quite noticeably.

Mid week time off work FTW! :)

Time: 1:41PM on Stormrage, today.

All quiet and on the third attempt, an orc warlock called Stony kited him around and was killing him off - I couldn't get aggro back to myself for the tame, my Hunter friend and I were trying to tame him then the warlock killed him off.
A passing warrior tried to explain to him by logging his horde toon but this arrogant lock just killed him, even after we were emoting him to stop killing Deth.

I hope he enjoys his 25g piece of junk.... ¬_¬

The horde on this server just keep killing rares for the sake of it while alliance toons are trying to tame - having problems in Sholazar and the same Belf Pally just camping rares to kill them repeatedly.

During the daily grind, I had my NPC scan sound off and jumped to see what it was. Low and behold Deth'tilac had literally just spawned. I quickly dismissed pet unknowingly and started kitting. After a few minutes, a swarm of 7 other hunters begin to help on and off. I thought nothing of it, as they were just being nice. Thankfully that was the case, and I want to formally thank anyone who helped. Especially after reading some of these comments about wrongful tames. These individuals should infact be given a ban as if they ninja'd an item. And have the pet removed.

For those still seeking to tame this pet, I wish you the best of luck. Keep your hopes up, as my situation proves, not all hunters will be a$$holes.

Just tamed him at 11:37 A.M server time on The Underbog. Had a horde shaman and death knight help. Just kept on kiting him around forlorn spire and used a spider pet. When it was time to tame the death knight used chains of ice and shaman frost shock which made taming him easier. If you kite him around forlorn spire remember to watch out for druids of flame and the other spiders.

So much kiting and pet sacrifice stuff. The real strategy is to announce in general you found a rare that drops mad purples, tell em all to run in, when he's done killing all em he's ready to be tamed. Profit :)

Two druids on the Mannoroth server (US) kept killing every alliance hunter who were trying to kite them. Told by an Horde hunter who made an alliance alt, they had threat, and told him rude and nasty things that I will not say. Friend got him on Wyrmrest accord i was logged off getting a text with her asking for my help. I already had Deth so i hopped on really fast. Thankfully we were the only two hunters in the Molten front. We used our pet spiders to web him and kited him around the spire while taking turns rezing and webing.

12:30 server is approximate.

I was one of the luckiest hunters on my server this afternoon when I managed to tame Deth'tilac. I tried for about 20 minutes using traps and killing my turtle over and over when I accidentally ran into a few Druids of the Flame and got killed. When I ran up to try and tame him again, there were 2 horde hunters and an alliance hunter standing around him with spider pets out, and I thought I was screwed. The alliance hunter told me to go tame a spider and come on, that they would help me. It took all 4 of us, but I got Deth'tilac at 12:28 server time on Arathor.

See? There is karma. Helping another hunter tame Ban'thalos the week before was worth it.

Its a good idea if your planning to farm or tame deth'tilac to pick up entrapment from the survival tree. When I tamed him i would throw down a ice trap + explousive trap (for damage, didn't really do much LOL) and ressurect pet as he was rooted and slowed and resend pet to get deth striked. after pet dies once again I would throw down a snake trap which would again root him and let him deth strike the snakes after a couple of repeats of this and random players helping by killing themselves to deth strike I got a new awesome pet. (side note: yet to name him. Ideas? :D)

Just helped a friend tame this pet on Anub'Arak - US at 2:27 PM. What we did was use an ele shaman and a demo warlock and use constant slows. The shaman would put up earthbind totems and the hunter would lay frost and snake traps without sacrificing her pet. The demo warlock would use Hand of Gul'dan and root DT then stun her. Overall it took about 10-15 minutes of kiting to drop it to 15mil without pulling agro off the hunter.

I got Deth'tilac on 8/7/11 at 6:30pm server (pacific) Crushridge - US. I'd ran into a hunter who earlier that day tamed him around 11:30am server, and basically sat near the spawn point most of the day reading comments here, watching tv or reading a book while listening for NPC scan / silver dragon to go off. A hunter friend of mine (Thank you Jackiechoy, you rock!) had parked their hunter there in case he spawned.

Neither NPC scan or silver dragon went off, but I happened to look up at the screen and seen a very large purple spider and was telling Jackie "OMG OMG OMG OMG DETH HERE NOW GET ON HUNTER OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG".... or something like that anyway. We did the ice trap / snake trap method and pet sacrificing and had Deth down in no time. Not even 30 seconds after I completed the tame some alliance feral druid attempts to gank me. Now, either we were super lucky and finished just in time, or the druid actually was kind enough to wait for me to tame before attacking me.

I named Deth after the hunter who helped me tame her (or him, but Deth seems like a her to me for some reason) Jackie =)

Was a good 24 hours for me, I'd gotten Skarr at 11:30ish pm server the previous night, I got Karkin at 1pm server same day as Deth, got Deth at 6:30pm server, and then got Magria (which was the last one I needed) at 11:27pm server after Deth! =)

Been looking for this spider for a few days. It's the only color spider that I really like. I finally found him tonight with no one around and got a friend of mine to help out. Just as I got him down to 10% and was about to tame, another hunter came by and killed him.

There's a very deep, dark pit of hell for hunters who get all sour grapes about another hunter's success.

Anyway, here's hoping I get another chance.

Edit: Got my next chance, 11:50am on Lightning's Blade, Alliance. Usual spawn point. After a few attempts at this challenge, I found a druid trying to kill it. I killed him, then hopped onto my Horde alt. I paid him 600g to help me tame and to not kill me. He, in fact, helped me tame it and didn't kill me. I named my new spider after the Horde player who helped me out. Thank you to Howyadoinmon!

pulled him into group of NPCs which is there after finish Forlom spire daily Q..they attacked him and you have plenty of time to ress pet or dance with random ppl arround. He didnt cast strike on NPC but he almost didnt move from that group of NPC. He got killed on last % cuz random palladin saw a silver rare and leeeeroy on him

after weeks of checking and seeing other hunters tame, and horde kill. I finally found this one with no one else around. I originally planned on getting a druid friend of mine to help but when I found him I was the only one awake so I was alone on this one.

I used the methods that were on here. slow trap, CS, revive pet and send it. it took some time to get right and it will get your heart pumping. So, happy I finally got to tame Deth'tilac.

Just tamed him on Kael'Thas at 11:30 server time! I had a druid help me with his root, and a mage for hero once he got down to 20% health. I just kept sending my pet in and having Deth kill him to knock his health down 10% each time. Took about 5 minutes total to tame...he's now my new favorite pet! :)

Caught on Nordrassil at 02:01am server time, had the taming hunter concussing and putting down frost traps, a balance druid using typhoon to slow him and a shadow priest using mind flay as an extra precaution, several hunters came during the fight but luckily were nice enough to just help DPS him down until the tame.

Balance druid also did some battle resurrections of hunter pet and killed nearby trash to stop hunter having to multi task as much, teamwork DEFINITELY helped.

Can I just say that if you see someone actively taming, please don't "jump into help" without asking? As I was attempting to tame Deth'tilac, a well-meaning onlooker jumped in to assist. Unfortunately, his pet ended up killing the spider mid-tame. =/ I know he meant well but I had it covered. I camped for hours only to lose him by about 5 seconds. =/

Tamed Deth'tilac four times, three times soloed(server is low pop >.<) maybe this will help speed up the tame

Glyph of Concussive shot makes it really easy
Grab any random spider that you will abandon when you can tame Deth'tilac
Get in position in Max Range and put Aspect of Cheetah on
Trap Launch Ice Trap in front of him then send your spider to web
He will cast his Deth Strike to spider, so use concussive then disengage
Revive Pet & by the time he comes close your pet is alive then use another Concussive shot
Hug the wall so when he will follow you slowly, you have a space to run to side to go the other way
Trap Launcher>Ice Trap in front of him>Send spider & web him(he will kill that spider)>Concussive shot>Disengage>Revive pet .... Rinse & Repeat this way every time you have to go the other way

I'll try to count how many Deth Strike he will use until he can be tamed, and by the way I am not robbing any hunter the opportunity to tame this rare pet(so low in population no one is around most of the time lol). It's just that Horde kills all rares if they are the first one who sees it. Some are just idiots not knowing they can be 1 shotted lol.....

Do be aware that if you are unlucky enough to be too close to this guy at any time Deterrence will not save you from Deth Strike. If you are kiting him around his spawn area, save Disengage for when you have run out of room to back up and need to start heading the other way.

Easy tame....Just long and you have to keep a serpent sting on him if you're solo because he resets if he goes for too long a period without taking damage. LOL....the first time he reset while I was rezzing my current spider one last time so I could dismiss to tame Deth.

Deth just spawned today at around 12:25pm server time on US Proudmoore. Another hunter had stated in general chat that he was up and was willing to help tame. Unfortunately, when i got there i realized i did not have any empty stable spots. By the time I had stabled a pet and gotten back, the hunter had gotten someone else to tame him. I recommend having another hunter help tame, they made it look very easy! Grats to the hunter who now has a new friend!

Deth spawned not too long ago on Antonidas. Ran out there on my hunter to try and assist my friend (same lovely hunter that had helped me tame so many rares, Rothshaan you rock).

I would highly, highly recomend that hunters attempting to tame to NOT drag him out from behind that pillar or you'll end up in the situation that we had. An alliance warlock (who's name I can't remember, sorry) was attempting to help by sacrificing their demon and keep it slowed, and then there was a human mage, Owsla that did everything in her power to hold aggro on Deth and kill it so that my friend couldn't tame it.

Seriously people, don't be a &*!@. This is ridiculous. Griefing hunters trying to tame these rares is just plain pathetic and shows what a sad little person you are.

Either help the person trying to tame, or get the hell away from it.

The tactic I used to get my tame, and for my GM's tame is very simple, but requires a frost DK with chillbains specced.

Just have the DK spam Howling Blast keeping Deth'Tilac from moving around slowly, I did it by slowly walking Deth'Tilac in a circle, sacrifice pet-rez pet-repeat til he's around 20 million health. Rez pet one last time and dismiss, then have the DK sacrifice himself and using Howling blast as close to his death as possible, this will drop aggro but not reset Deth'Tilac. Be at max range from Deth'Tilac, shoot and hit tame, he should be going slow enough that he'll never reach you. Got my GM's and mine in about 5 minutes each with that method.

Just did it again, same method, about 10:30 server time on Malfurion, one try 5 minutes and he was tamed again.

Edit: I probably just got the next respawn. Tamed with the help of my wife's druid's roots, which gave ample time to revive my pet and sacrifice repeatedly. I did have one close call where I had to disengage over him to get more room. And best of all, I did it without ninja'ing him from another hunter!

just tried to tame this guy. Long story short the npc's for the dailies started to kill him. Died 3 times in the process. When he got low enough i realized that my pet was dead and i had to rez/dismiss to start taming. Right as i dismissed him, deth was killed :(

After 3 other days with failed attempts and disappointment, tamed today on Terenas with the help of one of the most honorable hunter's I have come across.

Snake traps had no effect on any of my attempts over the last week, and when the Alliance hunter (I play horde) used them as I watched today and tried to assist, they didnt have any effect then either, not once was Dethstrike activated by the snakes.

Eventually it was my turn and using a combination of the Alliance hunter's superior and supreme kiting and the repeated sacrifice of my Core Hound Renny as well as a last second Ancient Hysteria, the tame went off with no hitch and Deth'tilac was mine.

So here is to Zoey of the Alliance on Terenas! Thank you and thank you again. If you ever need any help and I'm on, PLEASE ask, I will be honored to return the favor.

2. Pull Deth'tilac
3. Kite him to Malfurion's breach
4. Now just kite him around until guards handle for his HP and then tame him
All this cost no more then 10 minutes

Another great way to tame your Smouldering Darkness.
1. Find a Druid
2. Get the druid to use the rooting effect on Deth'tilac the whole fight
3.Send your pet in (I used a yellow spider wandering by the area Deth is located)
4. Get Deth'tilac to kill your pet
5. Repeat until at or under 20% health
6. Dismiss/Abandon your pet
7. Tame
You now have the hardest to tame pet WoW (It was hard for me at 1st)

This is how I got mine, now to "brag" and tell a story.

There were no other hunters around. Others who were around didn't care about the massive purple spider. I found it around 7 AM when I got on and almost crapped my pants. No one cared, everyone went on with their lives. I went to do dailies, came back and no one was there... except for a druid. They asked if I wanted to tame it, I said yes. They rooted the beast the whole time while I sent in my pet and revived it a few times. In almost 5 minutes a little purple flame spider was following me. I asked if there was anyway to pay them and they only said one thing. "Just pass along the assistance :) "

If your a druid and you want to do a good deed. I great one would be to help a hunter get this guy. They will be forever in your debt and you also made a new friend :)

Man, As I type this you have no idea what i did.

I just tamed this beauty whilist look for the green spider.
I had saw he was spawned and my heart went into overload on beating extremely fast.Kiting him around didnt work for me(I kepted dying when i smmoned my pet).And the snake traps didnt work he wouldnt targethim.I almost gave up hope till i remembered to check out guild.One of them was on that i wanted to see if he'll come.
I had asked my guildie to come join me and help me out,I would pay for his repair bill while he died continuously for me
Needless to say it worked! And im very happy my guildie helped me when I needed him for this.

If The Wardens are Watching is available as a daily, the Shadow Warden "pet" provided is a valid target for Deth Strike (unlike the other friendly NPCs in the area). If you're able to abandon and re-obtain the quest after she dies to it, it's possible to easily solo this tame in only a few minutes as you get a new Warden each time you accept the quest.

I didn't get the tame but I helped a hunter out. Been rivals with a certain orc for rares across the new areas and hyjal, Ban'thalos, Skarr. All of 'em. Deth was the next one, As per the usual he was there, He had begun first so i was waiting to see if he'd mess up. After a while, things were going great till he messed up, moving too quick to rez his pet I saw this was going to end badly despite him being only one more kill from the tame. Sucked up my pride and shot at deth several times (distracting shot failed) until i took aggro. The other hunter was now far enough away, did /nod and took the death, he took aggro back and tamed. Since then he's helped me tame two other rares. It's never a bad thing to be nice =P

Tamed him tonight. Easiest thing in the world. Had a druid friend with me just spam roots on him, while I rezzed a disposable spider pet repeatedly, and let deth strike do all the work. Did do a little DPS on him to drop the Deth Metal stacks, just in case. All in all, easy tame with a druid friend.

Well I did get him on my hunter this morning but was the toughest pet to date to tame.

It took over 2 hours to tame him with ganking , people trying to kill it that wasn't hunters, other hunters and etc. I used a spider for webbing, ice trap to slow him down( concussion shot works also), snake traps to distract him also. This is the deal I came across, you get him too far to end of where he paths or in front and he evades and have to start all over. I had to go as far east of him till I knew just before he evades(from a few deaths) and place a ice trap just before that and run pass him( time it) and kit the other way back to his spawn spot. Used aspect a few times and was good expect when running pass him because he will stun you. Don't forget to revive pet and dismiss or won't be able to tame new one. So in other words this is how I did it and also look at my date of getting him because things could of changed from others on here to my time with hot fixes or patches.
1) Make sure your pet is on passive
2) Use a spider for webbing to slow him down
3) Use concussion shot to also slow down before he hits your ice trap for more time to revive pet.
4) Use spider traps after ice traps and also using concussion shot to keep slow for time to revive pet
5) Slow him with concussion shot before he gets to spider trap, if he is moving fast he will go right pass spider trap
6) When he is at 20% make sure you have room and time to revive pet and dismiss it so you can tame the new spider.

Just a side note: When he hits your ice trap and snake trap it distracts him for a sec so he can cast deathstrike on the ice trap and little longer on snake trap because of all the snakes. That sec or couple gives you a chance to run pass him. Also if he is running too fast to get to you because nothing slowing him down he will run right pass snake trap and not go off. Make sure traps are also "IN' his path because if off just alittle he will miss them also.

I tamed this beauty last night after nearly 2 hours of kiting. I wish I had read here first about the pet sacrifice! I did it all with no pet, though, so I didn't have to waste time with dismissing later, lol.

My first attempt was foiled by a pair of horde (me being alliance on a pvp server) who decided they wanted to kill it instead. I laughed while they died. Last night, though, was just amazing. I was kiting Deth around the magma springs and another hunter saw me and started helping (laying traps, dpsing, keeping the behemoths and lava bursters off me); then a shaman got involved, then a mage. I had a fiend (paladin) helping keep mobs off me.

At 27%, a horde hunter showed up and I thought I was going to have problems with him, but he started cheering me on and watching! Just goes to show that there are plenty of GREAT people out there.

I died three times during the process; once via lava burster, once with the first tame attempt (not enough distance), and third with the successful tame (Deth killed me right as I tamed!). It was one heck of an experience!

I have Deth, Skitterflame, Kirix, and Terrorpene; now I'm hunting the rest!

Just tamed this cutiepie.
Found him southeast of the Forlorn Spire. Kited him around the spire and down to Malfurion's Breach using conc shot, snake trap and ice trap. Avoding the mobs on the way was a piece of cake. Down at Malfurion's Breach I just continued to kite him around the neutral area while the npc's fiddled away on his hp. This was alot faster then some of the ways I read about here.

Did this around 02:20 servertime, so gankers and other hunters was not a problem since the server is kinda dead around this time.

I tamed this beautiful spider on Shadowsong at 9:45am. I think that he had been up for a while, since I first found him around 9, and there weren't skeletons around him.

I tried taming him first with just myself and a mage. I had the food buff from the Eternal Lunar Pear, and a Flask of Stoneblood.

The first time, we kited him with a spider pet as a sacrifice. The mage used mirror image and a lot of frost moves to slow him down, and I used ice trap and snake trap. However, I forgot about my slowing shots, so he ended up cornering me and one-shotting me when he was down to 50% health.

I ran back to my body and refreshed the food buff. The second time I went to tame him was with the mage and an enhancement shaman. The shaman used a lot of totems, and her spirit wolves, and they took some killings with Deth Strike. I kept my distance with snake trap, ice trap, scatter shot, concussive shot, and my pet's web ability. Every time my pet died, I would shoot him with concussive, lay down a snake and ice trap, back up a bit and rez the spider.

Finally, he got down to 20%, and his Molten Will buff vanished. I told my friends to stop attacking, and they did, so I abandoned the spider, shot and trapped, and began the tame. 2 seconds in and several other allies come up and start attacking him (since we had kited him around the front of the spire, and apparently people were showing up to tame him), breaking my tame. He was down to just 5% when I finally managed to keep aggro throughout the tame, and he was mine!

That was the longest 10 seconds of my life.

It worked pretty well, though I would reccomend the use of haste pots, haste gear, haste ANYTHING. The tame is long, and if you didn't get far enough away, you'll die.

Another thing to note- Solix was up at the same time as him, so I'm pretty sure all the spiders are on independent spawn timers.

here's an easy guide for you to tame him:

make sure that a warlock (affliction) can help you, this is a very handy class becuase of the curse that slows things (i don't know the name of the curse atm but i know that only affliction warlocks have it), if it's possible, bring anorther hunter with you, tell him to bring his spider and some elicers of speed (becuase of the extra haste, you will need them to), now find deth'tilac, once you've found him you should start laying icetrap and snake trap down, !MAKE SURE YOU'VE GOT A SPIDER AND A COREHOUND WITH YOU! call your spider out, tell the warlock to only use curses, becuase if they use their real damaging spells they can get alot of aggro, and that's not what you want, now tell the hunter to call his spider out, use your spider's "web" spell as often as possible, here comes the anoying part, deth'tilac uses dethstrike, the attack will instandly kill his target (unless the taget is 5-10 yard away) keep laying traps and keep using concussive shot, you've probebly figgured out why you needed the spider, but i'll tell you anyway, the spider uses web, it will make deth'tilac unable to move, this is the point where deth'tilac will kill your spider, no worries, just drink your elicer of speed, slow deth'tilac and ress your spider, this is the best tact becuase when deth'tilac uses dethstrike, he will lose 5-7% from his total health, once he's down on 5-10% health you tell your warlock and hunter to stop attacking, lay your last ice trap, bring your corehound out, use the ancient of hysteria buff, drink anorther elixer of speed, dismiss your corehound and tame deth'tilac, GZ you've just tamed deth'tilac, good job :)

Taming Deth'Tilac: EasyMode

Get a druid friend to help you. Have him or her cast Entangling Roots on Deth while you send your pet out as a sacrificial lamb. Basically, your druid buddy will keep Deth ensnared the whole time while you revive your pet and send him out again. He can even keep the roots on while you tame. I tamed him using this method on my first try in less than 10 minutes.

the trap technique works only if you guide deth' to them. i found he passed a few when kiting, but fortunately several players helped me out :) a balance druid, pally and a shadow priest (i believe). i managed to tame on my sec. try thanks to them. Instead of posting a pointless tame story, I'll post my technique and a few key things to remember.

Prep:

Aspect of the fox - you will want to be able to steady shot whilst moving to make sure your focus is topped up, and keeping Deth'tilac's speed buff down.
Spider pet - the extra snare will come in handy. There are plenty of spiders nearby if you don't have one.
You do not need Bloodlust/Ancient Hysteria/etc.

From max distance, I opened up with a freezing trap, concussive shot and then sent my spider in. As soon as my spider was hit by death strike, I hit concussive shot and began to resurrect it.

Once my pet was back up, I sent it in again, and just as I did this my trap came off of cooldown. I dropped that, kept Deth'tilac damaged to prevent him gaining the speed buff and just rinsed and repeated concussive shot/serpent sting/steady shot/freezing trap/resurrect until his health dipped below 20%.

Don't kite him too far north - he will reset and evade back to his spawn if you do. When it comes time to make a turn south, try and do it when your pet is alive by turning your back to face Deth'tilac, disengaging and running away. Don't forget to pot a few shots on him during this.

At 20%, either abandon or dismiss your pet - note that this may also involve you having to resurrect it if your pet's death was what tipped Deth'tilac below 20%.

This has probably been my favourite of the challenge tames so far. It takes a lot of work and is extremely vulnerable to griefing but is satisfying to get. The combination of involved procedure and unique skin makes Deth'tilac a satisfying tame to get.

Been only playing a few weeks after a long hiatus and already have gotten - Ban'thalos, Magria, Ankha, Karkin, Solix, Kirix and my newest and most beautiful spider Deth'tilac (also proud owner of Loqu'nahak and Ghostcrawler). I also work two jobs and have school, so it is possible with little time.

I read up beforehand the tricks to taming these guys after an embarrassing attempt to tame Solix.. twice killing him in the process on accident. Anyways, there was a lot of talk about taming a common spider to use as a sacrifice to give you time to run. I died two times using this method and I was about to give up. I called out to the guild for help and bless this player (who didn't even know me) offered to help me get Deth'tilac's health down.

The whole time I kept the aggro on myself giving off as much as I could between freeze traps and concussive shots (while my new friend wailed on Deth as he passed by). I kited him to each end of his ledge/strip/walkway where there were wider areas I could make a loop around without getting close (note: do a concussive shot right before you try to make the loop). Don't forget to keep your aspect of cheetah on (I kept mine on the whole time since I didn't give Deth a chance to hit me). This technique worked like a charm and fortunately no wandering players made their way over there to see what was happening. Be prepared for a long haul, it takes quite a few rounds to get his health down to 9 million (BE CAREFUL NOT TO KILL HIM, his health dropped drastically for some reason after he hit 9 mil... went down to 2 mil as I fumbled for the tame button). Also, I wouldn't try to kite him around the wall... learned the hard way and lost him the first time (evade.evade.evade...crap...reset).

So once again, you are perfectly capable of kiting him solo (I survived my friend dying about 3 times and actually resurrecting each time to start wailing on Deth again) It is recommended that you have a friend or two to speed up the process. You do NOT need a 'sacrifice' spider.

Had solo tame of this beaty yesterday 0600 at Blackspear.

Found him 0500 while the realm was totaly desserted. So I thought lets have a go at him. After a few times dying, kited him to front of the spire where the dailies are given. To my supprise he got trapped by entangling roots, looked around, nobody (found out after tame that only 2 other players where in the realm at the time of the last succesfull tame). So while he was trapped ressurected my pet and circled around him and kited him to same spot, again he got trapped by entangling roots. Now this tame was getting easy, kitted him all the time to the same spot, where he was getting trapped by entangling roots, mean time layed down snake and ice traps, revived pet and so on. In total it took 90 minutes to get him (including the times I was killed), butt the last attempt took only around 5 minutes.

Found him again this day and tried again to tame him. Unfortunatly I lost the second tame to bloody players who tried to intervene. Butt I noticed that he was again trapped by the roots at the same place. So I think that they are a game mechanic.

My advise is to look for him in the off hours when nobody is around, kite him to the front of the spire where the dailies are given and let him be trapped by those roots. In the mean time prepare traps, revive pet (and use Concussion Shot all the time!).

One other advice which can be usefull: you can squeeze through the wall at various locations (one of them is close by his spawn location). He WILL follow you through the wall butt it saves time kitting him around the wall and you do not have to run past him or have to get to close to hostile NPC's. have a happy hunt and UNdisruted tame:)

edit: just thought of a few possible tricks which can help you when competing with other hunters/players over him:
1: use haste a LOT; buy potions, buy gear with haste on it, even if all other stats are crap, you want to tame as fast as possible and armor and other stats are totally NOT important unless of course you are PvP. This is also VERY handy for Skar, Karim, Terropene and King Crush tame.

2: use a pet wich has the Heart of the Phoenix. Other hunters can ninja the spider and tame him when he is below 20 while you have to wait ages while reviving your pet. With Phoenix you have your pet back immediatly, which can buy you a few precious seconds. So when the spider is between 20 and 30 send in your pet,use phoenix, discard pet and start taming.

3: Other tactic which might help when competing with other hunters is to kite the spider to a place where other players are. Revive and discard your pet and just wait while keeping the agro on you. Sooner or later other people show up, who will start fighting the spider and sooner or later will be killed by it. So when the spider drops below 20 you are in a position to start to tame immediatly. Maybe this is not the nicest way to get the spider butt I noticed that some hunters didn't had pets with them and I rather be a jerk let the spider be killed then that I do all the work and other hunter steals the tame.

I woke up early to see if Skarr was up but only the rare crab was. I jumped up on the rocks to the and to the windy jumpy things because it gives you a haste buff for 2 mins. (makes taming easier) I accidentically landed on the rare spawns platform but tamed it smoothly.

I went to see if Deth'tilac was up and it was!

I started to kite him around abit unknowing where to go. Then another hunter came by begging me with plz plz plz over and over because he wanted to tame it aswell. I got quiet annoyed with it because I got there first. We kited it around for quiet a while and he kept telling me not to kill it. Wich I weren't trying to but he just did'nt know you can't tame it untill it's on 20 % HP.

Then he offered me 1k gold for it. I took the offer but he only wanted to give me the gold when it was tamed. Then I refused and he put me ignore. I started to get abit lag so I died and it started to chase him instead. There were some server lag at some point aswell so we both died and it reset to full health.

Then he tagged it and we started the kiting over. I still attacked it and we kited it to the NPC's on the other side of it's spawnpoint. The NPC's attacked aswell so it went down quicker and a few people around gave it some hits aswell.

When Deth'tilac got around those 20 % health I got the agro and ran towards the spawn point. on 20 % health I casted Tame Beast and got him! (Tame didn't break even tho the other hunter kept attacking)

My hands was shaking and I felt so happy when I saw he was mine. Even tho it was grey to me I could still tame it.
At least it was only fair because I saw it first. That will teach him not to steal my spider ^^

Tips: Go early in the morning, less people and often a chance for a rare spawn to be up. Use slowing traps and conclusive shot. You don't need to use aspect of cheetah. I used Aspect Of Fox mostly. You can tame him when he's on 20 % health. Tame dosen't break if another person attack him. You can tame him even if he's tagged by another person, as long as you got agro. NPC's will attack him wich is a help to get him down faster!

Do not dare to steal rare spawns from others it's just so rude!

All I have to say, is refer to the VERY first 2 posts of this thread. Deth'Tilac is a b#$%^ to tame. I tamed him today on my hunter, after dying to him 4 times. By the end of the run I had kited him down into the middle of the ashen field, where everyone stopped and watched as I tamed him. Took 35 minutes, and a lot of patience. This is, in my opinion, the hardest pet to tame - by far. Good luck, and happy hunting.

Ok so, last night i was camping this spider on my alt hunter and while i was tabbed out, an horde hunter killed me (he had the spider already). So i said to him, kill me on main character (holy paladin) in 1v1 so he waited there and when i arrived he was there with an friend warlock. I killed them both with my paladin and then i logged back on my hunter to camp again for the spider. Half hour later spider spawned and i started kiting it with frost traps/snake traps and sending pet in. When the spider was finally ready to be tamed that hunter came out of camouflage, sended his pet in and the spider did death strike and died. Thats the most lame thing i ever seen in world of warcraft. His name was Xerill on horde side on Defias Brotherhood EU in case people met him and experienced the same. Now i have to wait for the spawn again and kite it again for 20minutes.

My hunter followed a Horde hunter around, watching him work on this for almost 15 minutes. I helped out by clearing the area he was kiting in, but didn't attack the spider directly. A couple of other alliance showed up and were whanging on the spider; when it started getting low on health, I told them he was trying to tame it and there was no achievement or anything for killing it, and they held off.

Is the only one of the spiders I really want, and I'd rather see someone tame it than it just get killed uselessly. I got the same hunter killed accidentally shortly after, while trying to tame Karkin. :P

Just tamed :) was rly happy when i got this since i was never the spider person actully scared of them irl o.O! but in the same few hours i got skarr and kirix :P this one scared crap out of me mind because i had no idea what i was doing i ended up using skarr with a crappy spammed set up to get right on death'tilac all i rly needed was pheonix heart and i eventully drew him down to the molten front were druids were and some of my fellow alliance. after dragging around for a while the npc druids helped by wrathing a hunter saw me in a need of a help after mouse froze so he jumped his tank pet in and eventully i got him :P 6:00am kul tiras

I saw Deth again and decided to help a hunter. We started kiting and we got down to 40% without anyone. Then two hordie druids came and both killed themselves to get to 20% at which the other hunter started to tame. They came back and kept on attacking. In the end Deth died and I felt really bad inside and i was furious at the horde. Just a tip of advice from a hunter...

-If you see another hunter taming something, don't be a turd and attack/kill it. For all you know the hunter could have died and you could have gotten it. (But being a ninja is bad too)

Solo Tamed this today on quel thalas EU server. Took me three attempts to figure out the pattern but I got it in the end.

Basically you really have to make sure to rez your pet to take him below the 20% health bar to tame him, I used my jadefang (any shale spider will do tbh) to do this as he's a tank and uses WEB as another way of keeping deth'tilac still for short periods. Make sure pet is passive too. Without using your pet and just kiting him this tame will take forever, I noticed when my pet was used his health dropped alot faster, so you can do this tame in under ten minutes easy. And as others have said use concussion shot and ice trap while kiting him and he's yours. Good luck and please don't steal another hunters hard work only pillocks would do that.

I really don't know what is wrong with ppl.
I was trying to tame this pet in Dragonmaw (EU) server today on my hunter.
Actually got a druid to help me out on it, but unfortunately an opposite faction paladin kept on killing us and tagging the mob for no reason what so ever.
I logged on my char on the other faction to ask why would he act like this, when there is only a 25g reward for killing it, rather than making ppl happy. I offered him alot more gold for letting me tame it but no, he insisted on killing it saying that the reason is "showing the noobs who commands."
There actually was 4 other hunters of both factions asking and trying to tame the spider, but he just kept on going.
He pulled it to the daily quest camp and got his 25g, i really hope it was worth disappointing alot of hunters.

So please fellow players, i ask if you could be considerate and let the hunters tame their dream pets. I am sure that many hunters appressiate the help and might reward you greatly for allowing the taming and maybe for helping.

For those whom are so considerate i say Thank you.

I just tamed him 9-5-11 1:45 server time on Arathor. I kitted him from behind the pillar to the front where the quest givers are. A Mage showed up and help me dps him. I just kept kitting him. Them another hunter showed up. I was afraid he'd try to steal him but he didn't. After about 25 to 30 min deth'tilac buff dropped and I was able to tame. I tried to tip the Mage 100g for helping but he wouldn't take. He just said he was happy to help. The other hunter was horde but he jumped on his alliance toon to congratulate me. Super sweet spider. I'm really glad I got him. Good luck to other hunters, this is a tough one.

Round 3! TAMING COMENCE!

First i tell myself to relax and breathe, as this will be the most difficult fight ever. I send Raijin in to attack and throw down a CS and Frost trap.

Rai dies, HOTP it and hes back in, at this point a mage has come in to the fray, its a HORDE MAGE :) he wispers me? Dead or Alive? I said " ALIVE! "

He proceeds to help frost trap for me while Rai is dying, which gives me a moments to get him alive and repeat process.

Also SNAKE TRAP dont work well.

At 15% after raijin has died, i rez him fast, dismiss him. And proceed to tame while he is traped, The count down begins!

Im thinking YES! but this YES comes with a funny side, Just as his tame is completed and im screaming in General "IM FREAKING GOT HIM!" his spell casts and KIlls me just as i got the tame.

Im screaming again! Oh god no did i lose him? was all that for naught?

I quickly run back to my body, rez and look at my pet bar, OMFG i have Deth'tilac! I HAVE FREAKING DETHTILAC!

The mage gratz me as a Alliance hunter comes along and does /cry on me, i give the mage for his wonderful effort 1000g

THATS RIGHT 1k gold, the mage is shocked at me for giving him a k gold and he is about to trade me back it when i tell him "No good deed goes unpunished" so he thanks me and gratz me again!

Tamed this beauty today on Draenor. Here's my advice for the easiest tame:

Bring another hunter with you. Each of you stand at both ends of the ledge and kite him back and forth using Concussive Shots, Frost Trap and Snake trap to slow. When he gets close to either of you, Feign Death. Rinse and repeat until he is tameable.

Took about 30 minutes or so to get him down but its so much easier with another hunter.

this purple beauty was truely the only spider i actualy cared for so when a guild member said it spawned i hoped on my hunter yelling for him to watch it. i quickly got rid of another pet because im maxed on them flew over and came to him, while looking up how to do it because i knew he one shot anything in melee range. as i reached him i sent in my Ankha as a sacrifice shooting snakes and ice trap, my friend being a feral druid and i stood at either end of the area he was in, when he got to close to me (which i constantly shot traps and my concussive shot) he would taunt and run his ass out so it followed him then id dps till the beast turned back to me. he sadly got killed three or four times but after awhile of this (and rezzing my pet) i was able to get it down enough and tame yay!

dunno when it spawns but aprox 9:20 pending on how long it actually sits around for

Me and a mate got this one for my mate last night, meaning that we know what to do and how to do it. Today he spawned again and we were at him. No one else inside. We start kiting him up back and forth and get him at about 30% when some moron hunter comes in and tells us to stop, 'cause it doesnt drop anything. We tell him that we know and that we 100% know what we are doing. We tell him to leave or just stay out of it. When I'm finally able to tame HE starts taming too and he actually gets him! We were like, wtf are you doing you retard? He was like "Sorry" and all that. After talking to him for a while he started admitting that he knew what we were doing and that he was just waiting for us to get him under the 20% so he could tame him in front of us. Then he starts teasing me, being extremely provocative and stuff - everything that just suits an idiot like that.

Used the pocked druid method for a quick run to 20% then as rezing my pet to dismiss, some hunter came around the corner and started taming. They need to make it impossible to tame these if they are grey to you. Thats all it would take

Grats dude! I have helped a ton of players get this pet. Took for fing ever to get my own though. lol. I enjoy helping get these guys. Though I find it kinda funny when I wind up getting whispers of thanks and here have some gold. I could really care less about the gold. I just like having the feeling that I helped get the pet. It is cool that you are on Kul Tiras. Probly bumped into you a time or two without thinking and helping others get their tames.

I helped another hunter tame this beauty not long ago. It really shows something when they message you saying the fella is up and to get there now. Thanks to them letting me know, and helping me with the pet sacrificing and trapping I now have my own little evil spider. Even though as his last act of defiance he killed me right as the tame finished xD

I just tamed on Gurubashi at 3:30am with the help of a mage friend...we kited him back and forth where he spawns up top, keeping cc on him...got him down to 10% after 15 - 18 minutes... and tamed him. If you can go pet hunting in the early AM, it is worth it. I also tamed Ban'thalos (today) and Karkin(yesterday)! Dont give up, but dont spend all of your time camping either. Know your fights and bring a friend...especially if you are on a pvp server.

I have seen this beauty several times, assisted others in their tames, attempted a tame and died without reading, (dumb) and gave up :)
Today, while waiting for rbgs, a nice person asked if I wanted to tame Deth, I have all the other rares and did want him. So for about 30 min, a couple deaths, a great pally and a nice mage helped get him to the tamable stage. There was another hunter riding around on his mount and I was so fearful that he would steal the tame, he didn't ...kudos to you. I tipped the Pally and Mage nicely, changed the color of my hair to match Deth and am grateful to all of you that posted your experience and wisdom here...that's the advice I took and it worked.

I Just tamed this on Twilights Hammer, about 3:00am had a lot of tryes, kiting him around his spawnarea, failed failed and failed again.. was about to give up.. then i did my final try.. What i did was simply kite him with Concussive Shot to the area with all the questnpc's and had them take down his hp, when he got below 20% --> snake trap, freezing trap and tame.. Guess i was lucky the place wasnt full of tricker-happy human players at the time..

Lucky or skills, i dont care.. it worked! :-D

I just tamed him early this morning. I was trying to follow everyone's instructions and was doing a little better each time, but was no where near getting him down in health alone. I wound up getting help from another hunter, and we alternated our traps and pet rezes. Made it SUPER easy. We didn't even have to pull him all the way down the main path he's found on cause he was also in a ice trap.

Thanks for the advice and good luck. Definitely don't be afraid to ask anyone around if they are willing to help. If there's a hunter that already has him there they're likely to understand and help.

didnt really want him but he was up figured id give it a go... start solo kiting him had him about half health and some other people had gathered around by then they jumped in i figured sweet some help ill get him down faster anywho his health dropped pretty fast and before i knew it i was yelling for everyone to stop attacking they didnt so now im stuck with a crystal in my bag that is worthless when i could have had a nice pet... i will keep that crystal as a reminder never to trust anyone that you think is trying to help you

I have been in love with this spider since I first saw it on wowpetopia so I have been eagerly levelling and questing to get to the stage where I can find it.

The first time I ever went to the Molten Front I saw Deth spawn in front of me through a gap in the big wall thing, I had literally just arrived at the Forlorn Spire. I looked up the information here and tried a few times to tame him but I wasn't having any luck. I was panicking too much and not thinking straight so I decided to leave it as there were other things I needed to get done.

I come back an hour or so later and a hunter and another class were kiting it between them on the other side of the wall to the spawn point =/ How they did this without attracting the attention of mobs and other players is beyond me. I get into position ready to help but I am called to lunch before I could be useful. I come back and there is no Deth or hunter or the other player. I notice in the chat that Deth had died and the hunter had messed up the tame somehow, the other player going nuts at him lol. A really nice guy/girl to care that much about a hunter getting the tame or not :p

Molten Front is SO busy on my realm Alonsus, there's always like 8 hunters in there at any one time and my NPC scanner is constantly going off with all the tamed spiders and Skarrs running around.
Seriously it's annoying, bring another pet out. So I thought I had no chance for a looonnng time of taming anything, nevermind the toughest tame to date.

But lastnight at around half midnight or something, I logged on and went to look and I see the red dot behind the wall on my map and think "Yes!... Now I just need some help." I realised I need a throwaway spider to help me so I grab a yellow one nearby and go back. Panic rises in me as an ally dot appears next to Deth but it's just a Paladin... I ask him if he could help and he bluntly put "no".

And that Pally... well he decided to tell me how to do it but at the cost of 100G <_<
Yes I can use google too. I ignored him, then he went off and started attacking Deth!@* Luckily he dissapeared and never came back.

So in General chat I ask for help and get "can't do it m8, immune", "What about Solix?", "Good luck with it!" and what not but a fellow Nelf rogue with almost the same name as me (I'm Jezzebelpop, she was called Jezzebell xD) said she would help.

I was an idiot and didn't explain the fight before we started so got wiped, I told her what I needed her to do and we started again... only to fail again.
Third time lucky? I said I was calling it off if we failed again, it was late afterall.

So I go in with the spider and ice trap, back off, she goes in to stall as I rez, rinse + repeat. I managed to stay alive but she died twice.
In no time I was looking at a low health Deth after a healthy mixture of ice/snake traps, rogue play and concussive shot so I went in with the tame... only to realise I needed to rez and abandon my current spider! >.<

I lay down another ice trap, concussive shot, rez, abandon, I back up and hit tame.

It works like a charm and I now have a pretty purply spider at my side! xD and I LOVE the firey footsteps it leaves behind!

I thank and tip the Rogue 1000g for her time which I think was fair, I would have gave more if I had it but alas, I am skint.

See that Pally, if he'd helped like a nice player he would have got more than 100g.

Yay xD I went to bed and couldn't sleep for hours because of the adrenaline lol.

ice trap/concussive shot kite around her platform while my friend would send his pet in to sacrifice, resurrect, sacrifice, etc.

once she drops to 20%, you can drop a final ice trap, concussive shot, and start taming at max range.

she's a beauty!

Tamed on Laughing Skull (Alliance) at approximately 11:20 server time.

What a challenge (for me at least) After three different spawns of Deth, I was finally able to tame him. A few tips on my behalf.

Use any spider pet like said before, the web helps alot.

***MM Spec Readiness was a life saver right before the tame, I got some extra traps and was able to distract him from killing me.

Be very careful of the edges, one sloppy disengage will send you flying for about 30 seconds to your untimely death.

Be sure not to have your traps too far apart and keep in range of Deth to make sure he doesn't lose aggro.

If you're camping this spot, be sure not to upset your opposing faction, or they might wanna gank you right before you tame.

Others around someone taming Deth, please don't interfere, even for help, if Deths health is low and he kills you, he can die.

All in all, hell of a challenge, I really hope Blizz continues more Hunter Challenges with very rewarding special skins. If the other ones besides Kirix had unique models, I would go after them too. I just don't find it very rewarding, no one can tell the difference, only you.

Tamed on Laughing Skull (Alliance) at approximately 11:20 server time. The spawn before that was at 12am server time. Kinda lucky to find have 2 cracks at him in 12 Hours, 3 in 48 hours, lol.

I found that she has a 12 hour spawn timer. My realm is The Forgotten Coast so it might be different. At 4am server time I found a troll lowering Deth's hp so of course I helped her tame, and cheered her as I aw the lil guy shrink and become hers. I came back online 7 hours later and camped for a whole 5 hours when BAM at 4pm server time she appeared. I kited for a good 15 minutes lowering her hp while my husband helped, almost to 18% when a group of alli ganked me, and this dwarf tamed her :(...I cried for a good 15 minutes, but I will try again at 4am server time since that seems to be her spawn time. Good luck to all those hunting her! Oh and she spawns at 68:71 :)

I tried to do pet attack, snake trap , disengage, back up and lure it over to the NPCS but got killed. When I got back, resurrected and revived Psyke (Skoll)/Then with the help of a very kind Worgen Mage who not only told me how to do this, but also helped lower it's health Deth-tilac became mine.
Wanted to name my beautiful spider pet after the wonderful Worgen Mage who helped me but 'WolfieMoltenHeart' was too long LOL
So I settled on 'MoltenHeart'.

Tamed him yesterday and Snake trap did not work for me. However as a MM PvP hunter i used Snake Trap and Ice Trap for 2 times Entrapment in a row to get time to revive my pet. Also the pet i used was a spider to web him before he killed it.

The problem with Snake Trap is simply that he still melee hits while casting Deth Strike and he simply just one-hits every snake before he gets a cast off. Hope this is usefull information.

Just got him on Dawnbringer, about 9am. He evaded me three times at 49%, in different places, on flat ground with no rocks or anything. Fifth time, had a warlock helping me, and got him.

One thing I noticed; it tended to spazz around when it'd stepped on a snake trap. Would start casting deth'strike, get partway through, swivel around and start again, etc. Never finished it on the snakes.

Don't know why it evaded, or why it didn't evade on the last one. Wasn't hung up on a rock or anything, pet was dead, I was standing on flat ground, and the snakes from the trap were all dead.

Super easy strat for taming him. Bring a Boomkin (any druid really) and just keep him rooted while you send your pet in over and over again. Took me all of about 3 minutes to get this pet. Use your traps just in case, but I don't think it's needed. Just root, sacrifice, revive, repeat. Enjoy and happy hunting! :D

I should add that I tamed him on Smolderthorn at around 5am server...

Attempted to tame this morning on Earthen Ring with another hunter's assistance but couldn't manage to dismiss/abandon the pet I was using and ended up killing the spider. Not too put out by it, as I like my Skitterflame's colors better and don't see the need for two spiders in my stables. Just so happened that there were no other hunters about at that hour so I gave it a shot for the thrill of the tame.

Oh, and to the orc hunter that whispered me alerting me to Deth's presence and stayed to assist - thank you. I'll pay it foward by doing the same when a rare I've already tamed spawns in my vicinity. Always nice to see considerate players in a usually callous/hostile gaming environment. :)

Got him just now. A couple of weeks after he was ninjaed from me.

I have been looking for him since then, because he was one of only three pets I needed (well, he was one of many but all the others have been tamed. Today he was one of three). Saw that he was spawned during to the tracking beast-ability - I dont use NPC scan in Molten Front due to all the hunters there and all the different beasts they have all tamed. NPC scan keeps going off :P

But there he was, standing in his corner. I try doing him alone but it's just impossible. He won't aggro on the snake trap. I cant get to ress my pet. Everytime I try to get past him he gets to me and cuts me open. No one from my guild answers my call and no druid was online in Molten Front. BUT - a frost mage was. With her help I was able to ress my pet and send it in with her sending her elemental in too. Took us 5 mins. I tamed -> Paid the mage 1k gold -> Left with the last spider I needed. I dont need to go to Molten Front anymore unless some poor hunter (horde or alliance) screams for help.

just got him on burning legion
first tried the ice, snake trap sacrifice pet method, got annoying real fast, do able, but deecided that i had enough patience to just kite.
kited alone to about 50%, got caught up in adds and spammed general chat for some ranged dps.
a nice shammy took the bait and we kited, earthbind, ice, conc shot etc while 2-3 ally hunters watched, figured they were gonna steal the tame but they didnt thankfully! tipped my new sham friend 555 for his efforts. thanks Gnostic!

i just returned after 6 months or so and figured from reading other posts suggesting to use a current pet as a sacrifice, and i figured once pet dies maybe the rules changed and you could tame a new one if current was dead. nope, same rules, so at the last minute had to rez current pet, dismiss, then tame. was nerve racking and time consuming over all with opposing faction around but got him now and im pumped. patience is the key for this guy

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but if you want an extremely easy tame, bring a druid friend along and have them chain root.

I wandered up to do my dailies and checked for Deth - BAM there he was! After spending about 10 minutes getting the hang of how to work his health down without too many problems, I let him get too close and died. Ran back and as I was getting health back up, a druid ran up and offered to root him as I tamed, said he'd helped several other hunters.

Worked like a champ - I sent my pet in (poor thing!) over and over as the druid kept Deth rooted in place. Took about five minutes, and tamed without an issue. Not a "pure" tame, but a time saver!

In case anyone else was wondering, he is not phased because I tamed him today and have not gotten far on the Firelands dailies (121 marks of the world tree).

He has 77.5 Million hp. I used snake trap a few times, but couldn't tell if it helped or not. My first attempt failed because I stole aggro from the pet and I got the Deth Strike, so I recommend using a tanking pet who can keep threat and don't worry about dps'ing him. Just focus on kiting and keeping frost traps down, and let the pet keep aggro on him so the Deth Strikes would always go to the pet . The Deth Strikes are what will get his HP down. Deth Strike does not seem to be an AOE so if you reach the end of your kiting path, as long as your pet has aggro you can run through him to get back on the other side, then as he kills the pet again, disengage, concussion, set traps, and rez pet.

A druid and mage came to watch the spectacle and started helping me by rooting and using frost nova, so that bought me a lot of time to rez my pet. I highly recommend bringing a druid friend if you have one! If not, the revive pet glyph that reduces your pushback while you rez your pet would probably be very useful here.

After I got him to about 19% and he did his next deth strike, I concussion shotted him and the druid rooted him, then I rezzed my pet, dismissed him, concussioned again and did distracting shot to make sure I had the aggro while taming, and began taming. It was very close and his deth strike went off just as I was finishing taming... but instead of me dying, the spider became small and flipped over dead. I thought I'd waited too long and killed him, but found he had indeed been tamed and I just had to rez him!

A few hours later my npcscan went off alerting me Deth'tilac had spawned again but I could not find him anywhere. Can anyone confirm if perhaps they spawn in different phases and not just one phase? Trying to account for why I can't see him now. Exited game, and re-logged in and got the same alert so I know it isn't because someone had tamed him already.

I tamed Death`tilac differently than everyone else ,i am a BM hunter , and i used my pet a little differently too , when i first attacked i didn`t send in my pet ,i keep up conclusive shot to keep him stunned constantly to keep him moving slowly, then i moved backward lureing him all the way back to Malfurions Breach, on the way i did back into other spiders and that`s where i used my pet ,i kept my pet on passive (attack on command only)then i send my pet in to defend me against any other attackers while i`m backing up , when i get him to the breach i still have him stunned so i`m am able to avoid him while moving around ,i lured him to the portal and then back toward the moon well ,now i dismiss my pet, now here is why i brought him here , all the NPC`s will now attack him with you and pull aggro on him to attack them,when they have him low enough to tame ,stop your attack and get him ,it was close they almost finished him off but it worked out just fine.

Well i just got to watch Deth'tilac die in front of me because a jackass of a rogue kept killing me. I am on horde and when i went back after my many attempts to tame him myself failed, i saw an Alliance hunter by the name of Biggy had already tamed him and motioned me to start the long taming process. We had him down enough the first time and as i was starting to tame him, the rogue started attacking me and killed me before i could finish the tame.

So after that i went back over to try and see if i could tame him again but i had to wait to rez. long story short the hunter led Deth all the way back to the safe zone in what i hope was an attempt to keep the rogue from killing me but in the end everyone there started attacking him and because of that i couldnt tame him and had to watch him die in front of me. And to add insult to injury the rogue repeated laughed at me.

I hope that the other alliance talking were chewing him out cause it is the least he deserved for being such an #$%^&*!. I thank you again Biggy from Spirestone for trying to help me tame him

I saw him at about 2am on Gul'dan. Tried to tame him by myself but it seemed like there was always something wrong going on. So like others have posted: before bring a friend! I only needed one and he brought his hunter. Here is what we did.... we used ice trap then sent my pet in (spider) then put snake trap and he put down another ice trap making sort of a line in front of Deth bc he WILL stop at all the traps. When my pet would die he would send his in and we rinsed repeated till Deth got low enough to tame! It is soloable just watch for adds ( I seemed to fail at that) ... though there were times when Deth would attack the mobs around him which was very cool.Like I said I hope this helps

After trying to tame him on the 5th time and he "evade" during the kiting process, I got really upset by the "evades" and asked a guildie druid to come along and help with the roots. It was just in time he came to help, as another hunter with a druid were in the area killing all the spiders on the way to start the kiting too if I failed. It was fast and simple. The druid root, i send pet, throw trap, pet dies, Deth start coming on my direction, gets slowed by the trap, the druid roots, I revive pet, send pet in, rinse repeat, i got him to 7% health and revived pet, dismissed and started the taming process with Deth rooted. Now to think in a name... ;)

Just tamed this bad boy on Duskwood at 1:25 server...

Just wanted to say thank you to all the people who helped. At first it was just my husband and myself kiting em around then a few friendly horde people stopped there questing and decided to helps us. It was great, my heart was pumping and I about had a heart attack when an ally hunter came along and tried to steal my spider! I really hate that other hunters have the need to come along and steal someones pet (especially because they are the opposite faction). I had been kiting that spider around for over 30 mins at that time and im just glad that I got the tame off in time b4 it became someone besides me!

Again whole point of me posting this was to say a big thank you to the ones who helped me! Good luck to all the hunters trying to get this spider its def my fav in the game !

-just a little tip that was helping me when I was on my own, dropped snake trap then a few seconds later I dropped ice trap. I kept this up and was kiting him around the whole rock formation thing he is behind. Its worked really well he never got very close to me. Hope this helps.

I just tamed this, with help of 2 SP, started with ice trap > send pet ( spider pet is the best here so you can wep him and the boss will attack the nearet anime near him so thats ur pet) after he kills ur pet, you will need to use consussive shot then ice trap then Snake trap, after u put all of these trap start to cast Revive pet and send ur pet again and web him etc... when you get to the end of the road put frost trap behind the boss, use Deterrence to go back kitting at his respwning place... to kite him again from there its the best way i found to kite him without getting him resets ( tryed once kitting him in circle and he resets at like 50%... ) and keep it like that everytime you'r way ends send ur pet and use web after he kills ur pet go back to the line with Deterrence again... etc when he comes to 20% hp be sure ur ressed ur pet and dismissed it... then put ice trap and tame him ^^.

Tamed this at 11pm ST on Friday September the 30th

Tactic i used is i got one of my hunter mates and we got my pet to go in he grabbed threat once mine was sacrificed he then sent his pet in and Feigned while i had resed mine we then rotated this till she was below 10% hp he was good about it and let me tame it so he just feign while you get distance and ice trap it and TAME good luck and i hope you get it was great fun taming this beast :) it is possible to do it solo but i found this easier.

Just tamed at 2:11 pm server time on The Forgotten Coast! I had a handy DK help me :)

We figured out, after many, many failed attempts, the trick to lowering Deth's health. YOUR PET!

Name is Deth'tilac, move is Death Strike, when she kills something 10k of her health goes buh bye.
So the DK kept aggro, I sent pet, pet died, I launched snake trap, ressed pet, did it again til i got to like 18k health, launched ice trap for aggro and moving speed, popped tame beast and BAM she was mine :).

Took a lil over 5 minutes! Don't kite around for 30 minutes to an hour, use your pet! All these rares are to challenge our HUNTER skills :) Such as traps, deterrence, even your own pet <3 So good luck, she is a beauty! And I named her Palkia <3 I have a thing for Pokemon so Anthriss I named Pichu, Kirix I named Spinarak, and the purple guy had to be the best purple pokemon ever :D! Hopefully taming Solix, making 4 rares in one day.

P.S. 12 hour spawn timer on all spiders after each tame :)

I just tamed mine today on Uldum-US server, but i wasn't able to do it alone, the sacrifice ice trap combos didn't work for me.

I was able to tame Deth'tira with the help of a DK he slowed it and immobilized by casting non-stop his Chain of Frost. while i was dpsed it, then i tamed it when Deth'tire HP was under 10%.

I called my purple fire spider DeathWeb lol :) SHe is such i beautiful spider pet.:)

Just tried to Tame this spider at 6 pm on Stormrage. Was just stolen from me by Python with a weird o. I had a guildy hunter helping me out and Python just came in and stole it. Here's a pretty easy strategy for Taming Deth'tilac;

Beast Master Hunter:
Frost Trap
Snake Trap
Revive Pet

Enhancement Shaman:
Frost Shock
2xFrost Enhancement
Spirit Wolves (Twin Howl)
Slowing Totem
Fire Elemental Totem
Earth Elemental Totem

The Shaman can pretty much keep Deth'tilac frozen in place using Frost Shock, allowing the Hunter to Revive his pet, Spirit Wolves can use Twin Howl to Taunt and be killed by Deth Strike, and using Earth and Fire Elementals add extra sacrifices.

Using this strategy it took about 10 minutes to Tame Deth'tilac.

What a day, what a day !

I suppose we all earn some luck sometimes.

EU Aggramar, tamed this beauty around 09.00 am while doing dailies npc-scan went off and I was rather surprised since I was not looking for a pet in this zone yet. The purple Spider ! Deth'Tilac.

77 Million HP, and no clue about tactics.

Quickly checked here for taming tactics and asked an arcane mage to help me.

Frost traps, snake traps , mage slowing and a few pet sacrifices.

Having someone to help you also helps on your kiting path, once you went completely back off the ridge you come into the wider spider zone and you can really miss getting attacked by a few spiders while trying to kite this beauty.

Once there I slowed Deth again, ran around him and kited him back upto the ridge where we started. At his original spawn.standing place we had him around 9% Hp - 7% HP.

Started taming at 7% HP left and had to hurry to dismiss my pet because of the stress-revive I just did.

Last trap and a successfull tame, oh lord I was happy.

35 Minutes earlier I tamed the spectral tiger Gondria in Zul'Drak, wich I camped for weeks and never found. Also my preferred color.

Willing to use my luck in depth after Deth'Tilac's taming I went to Scholazar Basin and found/tamed Loque'Nahak (you don't wanna know how much time I did spend on camping his spawns unsuccessfully in the past).

3 Beautifull tames in around 2 hours.

This is my most beautifull day ingame so far.

Thx to the people for posting the Deth'Tilac tacts.

Solo tamed it today too (Tamed Anthriss and Kirix) .

Fist grab a new pet: a spider.. one of those yellow ones nearby.

Just stay doing damage and kiting, always behind the wall so you have a chance to do the tame alone. Drop your traps to slow it down, lots of concussive shots =)
You can use your spider to stop Deth'tilac for a while with that net attack (spider web). Once it reaches a low health level (I tamed it a little bit after my kill shot was activated so I know that it is above 20% health).
Drop a trap in front of it > concussive shot > Send your spider pet so Deth'tilac will stop a little bit, abandon it just after the spider web attack > Tame.

Spam concussive and use ice trap a lot. Another hunter tried to help at the beginning with dpsing him down, but his health went up, according to her. I wasn't paying attention. I didn't use the snake trap, i just sacrificed my bug a lot. Only once he's below 20% health, my bug was dead, so i had to make space to revive AND dismiss before i could tame.

I had a friend guiding me around since i couldn't see behind me. There was a horde rogue (me being horde) attacking him, but my friend got him to back off. And there were two alliance cheering me on. They probably wanted to see if i could do it. :D

Just to let you know, there isn't always animosity between the factions. I was attempting to tame Deth'tilac on my human hunter today and finally got him. Thanks in a huge part to a Tauren Pally. I saw the guy standing there and thought, "oh no. It's gonna be even harder now." When I sent my pet in to aggro Deth, the pally immediately grabbed him and started kiting him around the big rock pillar while I continually sent my pet in as a sacrifice and revived him. Got Deth down to 20%, dismissed my pet and the pally led him into my ice trap and sacrificed himself to get him down to 10% for me to finish taming.
That is a great WoW player and should be an example to us all whether we are horde or alliance. Just goes to show that not everybody out there is an d-bag and that we should all "pay it forward" while playing.
BTW, since I couldn't just give the guy some gold for the great digital help that he had just given me, I gladly named my new pet after him. When the pally came back to claim his corpse and saw the name, he did a /clap and /bow. I now have an awesome spider by my side name Êvo and I know that there is, at least, one awesome WoW player out there that deserves some kudos.
After hearing so many asshat stories, I had to share this.

Nope. he one-shots you no matter what. Nothing you can do about it except sacrifice pet/friend/guildie until he's at about 10-20% or so. Then revive pet, dismiss pet, drop ice trap, concussive shot and start taming.

Don't think this has been mentioned but all roots and slows seem to work on him.

So concussive shot and entrapment come in handy.

I had weird evade issues so basically kited him in a very small area around where he spawns.

Just solo tamed him (the last spider i needed) and completed having all the rare spawns that spawn inside the Molten Front. I am not Beast Mastery so I do not bother getting the Spirit Beasts, but I have helped my friend get Ban'thalos and Ankha. It took me a few tries (Deth'tilac will reset if you spend too long not attacking him), but I finally got it. The tactic I used was:

Have a spider pet with me
Make use of my ice, snake, and immolation traps
kept my distance and spammed Concussive Shot
Revived my pet whenever possible to sacrifice again

I started with laying out an ice and immolation trap, waited for their CD's, then sent my spider to attack him. When Deth Strike was almost finished, I would use my spider's Web effect and hit Deth'tilac with Concussive Shot. I ran for some distance and revived my pet while Deth'tilac was staying in combat and slowed by my Ice and Immolation traps. I tended to repeat this process until he got tameable. Make sure to ABANDON your spider before taming. Throw down an ice trap, use concussive shot and get max distance before starting your tame. HE CAN STILL ONE SHOT YOU.

As of now I am a proud owner of Solix, Skitterflame, Kirix, Anthriss, Deth'tilac, Karkin, and Skarr. <3

Just put your pet away and kite this goofball in circles. There is _NO_ need to be running your pet out for it to die / revive / die / revive / etc / etc. Complete and utter waste of time and have a higher risk of killing yourself.

Really only need to keep concussive shot on cooldown. Mainly used my traps while turning around. Even got the Hyjal druids in on the action too.

Tamed early today around 1:00am est. on Dawnbringer.

One of the most intimidating pets to obtain; however, a lot easily for me to tame than Kirix.

Used snake trap and ice trap to try and slow him down (snakes not so much for the off-chance Death Strike as to have something he can attack while I make some distance) As well as concussive.

ALSO

My boyfriend was able to use his crippling poisons to make him virtually motionless; so I could revive my pet each time (he took a few for the team as well.) Tamed him when he had 14m health left.

And despite how scary he looks - his hit range is soo short; I was scraping by him at one point while reviving my pet. At any rate - he is an awesome pet :)! Named'em Kujtimet (Albanian for Memories)

I am a Worgen Hunter who just got this pet with the help of a Horde Druid! As I was trying to get this beast hp low enough to tame a Horde druid came up and rooted the beast again and again so i could send in my pet to lower his hp. Once I tamed the spider the Horde bowed to me and ported. Some times WoW still amazes me.

The best way i found to tame him is to turn your pets growl off so they can keep doing damage as you keep dodginghim by running from end to end then as the buff drops off (20% Health) dismiss your pet drop a frost trap cause you can not freeze him and CC shot him for good measures, thats what I did and it worked great I'll get a screen shot for you later and add to this posting. Or you could get a guildie to help you. I got a so called friend to help the first time and it just happen to be a hunter and when I did all the work running back and forth for over 12 minutes he stole the tame from me and left the guild and put everyone in the guild on ignore. That had on Mok Nathal' server and it was like 10:30 PM server time he seems to be there everytime.

Just a warning to all hunters. On Gorefiend a horde hunter by the name of Draka the first a has that foolish accent over it. Steals and ganks you for your elite rare taming pets. It tries to solo but has to get 6 others to fight it's battles. Just a warning for all hunters.

Well today or rather evening I got a whisper from another hunter who has spotted solix and invited me to come tame I decided to give it a shot, however sadly we were unaware that solix will die if not in the fire, so after that i thought well since im here might as well check on deth, sure enough she was there at that moment another hunter came up who happened to have already tamed her, asking about how he did it he explained he used ice trap (the one that slows not freezes) and conc. shot that also slows her down, as well as send in your pet and use revive ALOT once she is down to taming point be ready to revive and dismiss your pet she is not tameable even if your pet is dead it is still considered out and usable, one thing i recomend try to keep her behind the big monument thing you find her at if you take her out the smaller spider start to attack and drop your health to quickly not to mention you draw attention from other hunters wanting to tame her as well..... I to experienced a hunter aiming to tame her just as i got her down low enough however she attacked me and killed me and then the hunter who had been helping due to his death it put her in evade mode and we had to start over but the other hunter ran away :) if you take her health to low she will recieve a buff saying molten will if she reaches this point she becomes untamable so keep her around 20% I had the help of the other hunter who kindly helped me and with two it is far better then one! just both continue with the slowing trap and slowing shot and eventually you will be able to tame, and I agree tip your help, there may come a time you need them again, if your willing to pay 500g on a companion pet, your spider is for sure worth at least 500g :) happy hunting oh and one other thing on nessingwary server i spoke with another hunter who had just tamed deth 3 hours before my tame so that may help calculate spawn times, as well as solix spawned right before deth, im not sure if solix must die or be tamed before deth appears but I went right from solix to deth. good luck everyone :)

This is my favorite pet in the game, tamed her twice on my horde hunter, so I powerleveled my ally hunter to get her again. She was killed by some horde last night at 12:30am, so I assumed she would spawn again early this afternoon while I was at work, and I started camping her at 11pm. She spawned at 1:45am, so I'm assuming that on this realm (Gorefiend) she has about a 12 hour spawn timer. Her timer is not linked to any other rares in the molten front (or otherwise). The only linked spawns in the area are Karkin/Skarr, who share a timer with each other, as well as Ankha and Magria who also share a timer with each other. Good luck!

BEST STRAT FOR THIS!

Just helped my gf tame this on my Arcane mage.

Best thing to do, is have a arc mage with ya.. Have them take the ass grunt of aggro and nuke it down slowly with Arc blast.... but heres the trick... When close this spider does an attack that 1 shots ya... Called "Deth stike"- or something simular... this attack will 1 shots anything it hits... BUT... the beauty of this is it also damage the spider also :) Now back to the mage... have the mage slow the spider down at all costs... and the hunter casually nuking tt from a distance... Have the mage pop clones... this will divert all aggro to the clones.. and since theres 3... Deth' tilac.. will use his speciall attack to 1 shot all 3 clones... THUS doing damage to itself, per 3 clones... roughly 1/4 bar damage "maybe more maybe less" Once the clones are down.. mage is to take aggro... keep nuking.. etc etc.. til clones pop... rince and repeat.... Have the mage kite the spider from N to S on the ridge.. blinking from 1 end to the next.. and the hunter staying at the N nuking. Once the spiders buff is off and its ready for the taming.. Have the mage use 1 more slow on the spider before turning invisi... then have the hunter imediately start taming, depending on the distance the hunter is from the spider... you shouldnt have a problem with dying mid tame.

Ive helped 2 people tame this pet sofar.. 1st time, we nuked the boss from 100%-10%... took roughly 3 hrs to do... SO id happily say F*** THAT..

This method took myself and my Gf 30mins to do. ALOT BETTER.

After about 10 attempts, I managed to tame this guy completely on my own, in BM, with a core hound.
The first 9 times I tried, I was in surv spec and had a spider pet, but for some reason he kept resetting, or I'd get him down enough to tame and he'd just run up and kill me about 75% into the tame. So, I decided to take a different approach and take advantage of my core hounds ancient hysteria and a couple potion of speed.
I started out by launching ice trap, snake trap, and immolation trap right in front of him, then concussive shot to get started. The second my hound ran up to him he did his death strike, and my hound died. Did the rez, and started that all over, while obviously throwing in dps in between. I kited him all the way around the spire, to the first big rock you come to on the furthest end on the other side of the wall where deth sits, around that rock, then back again to his spawn point. There's a rock near his spawn point you can go around too, but by the time I had gotten back to the corner of the spire he was ready for taming. I had a macro ready, /use Potion of Speed /cast Ancient Hysteria, dismissed pet and he was mine about a millisecond before his last death strike went off. Needless to say, my heart was like a bullfrog the entire time.
I could be wrong, but I think dots help him to not reset, and the core hound provides a dot the entire time, plus keep up snake and immolation traps along with the ice trap. You also want to make sure your pets growl is ON, and completely take deterrence off of your bars to avoid accidentally hitting it. This was a fun tame. :) Looking for Solix next.

I once saw a dwarf hunter trying to tame it and thought I'd help him out(even though I'm Horde), I helped to get the spiders' health down a bit but we still needed help. Thankfully, there was a lot of other players nearby at the time, they came and helped( I think they did it because they saw me helping the hunter out) and eventually, the dwarf tamed the spider. We were all very glad to see that all our hard work didn't go to waste. So, even though you've read this in the others comments, I'll say it anyways; if you're planning on taming one of the cataclysm rares, do yourself a favor and get some other players to help you out.

Tamed Deth'tilac this evening, approximately 4:45 EST (1:45 PST) on Kil'Jaeden-US server.

Used the tried and true spider pet, frozen and snake trap routine, keeping concussive shot up. Worked like a charm. I ended up using a truncated kiting path so that I could remain hidden behind the wall.

Oh. And for Wavee, the NE Druid that tried ganking me while I tamed it... heh. How'd that work out for you?

I just failed at this very hour (21:35 , 8.11.2011) to tame him on Defias Brotherhood. Got too nervous and did on him one to many Deth Strikes. So in conclusion I died, so as he. I think i got to nervous about this and thats the effects. So my advise: try to be calm while kiting him.

Well Horde killed my attempts at getting this pet, yet again. This is the 2nd time. First one was a Blood Elf Hunter who then (after killing her) proceeded to pull out the very pet I was trying to obtain, along with other rares. And now this morning, An Orc Hunter killed him while I was trying to tame him.

I think its asking too much for people to not be such an ass and if you have the pet to help others out. Or at least bud out of their business and let them do it.

Literally just tamed her around 3:14 on Ravencrest-Europe. I'm a !@#$ geared hunter, so attempting to DPS her was out of the question.

Do yourself a favor and spec Entrapment - IT HELPS SO MUCH, since it has no DR on Deth'Tilac.

My strategy was fairly straight forward. I brought a SP friend, who would sacrifice himself, and Deth would run into my Traps, triggering Entrapment, and I'd ress my pet. Meanwhile, SP would run back, I'd get my pet back. My pet would get sacrificed, and SP would sacrifice himself while I ressed my pet. The Snake Trap distracted my Tame Pet for some reason, but I confidently tamed her @ 18% HP (Our damage combined), after her running through an Entrapment, after running quite a distance.

This is the method I used to tame her without any distinct problems (haven't read through all 253 replies so not sure to what degree this is relevant or brings anything new to the table):

Pull Deth'tilac with a misdirection->pet macro, and apply serpent sting to her. She'll deth strike your pet and she's at 90%. Now place a frost trap and conc. shot Deth, then disengage to revive pet. Immediately once you have your pet back chimera shot/serp. sting to renew dot. Send in pet again and feign death (make sure pet has hit her a little to prevent resets). Another deth strike and your foe is now at 80%. Rinse and repeat the above until she's below 20%. Then revive pet once again, dismiss it and tame, all the while keeping your distance with frost traps, conc. shot and disengages and also making sure serp. sting is applied to keep her from resetting.

Regarding the kite route, you should keep her going between her spawn point (using the stone close to it as a point to place a frost trap+conc. shot so you can pass her and kite her in the other direction. The other end of the kiting route was, for me, the open area with the flame droods; again using frost trap and conc. shot to get around Deth without getting in melee range (should you happen to see her cast deth strike on you, quickly disengage out of reach).

I used Aspect of the Fox to have some method of energy regen since Deth was slow enough for Cheetah to be unnecessary. Snake traps didn't really work out well for me and it was a fast enough tame even without them.

Tamed this gorgeous spider this morning with the assistance of two very nice mages. Used a junk spider for the fight and did it with mm instead of bm (highly recommended since silencing shot stops death strike every time) Other than that just spammed conc shot, serpent sting, and arcane shot, while mages dumped dps. worked very well, no deaths and i got my lovely spider to kill hordlings with now:)

I saw this pretty but angry-looking spider (very pretty in blue/purple) in the Molten Front, just behind the Forlorn Spire (Mazrigos server). Tried taming him but immediately was killed by his Deth Strike after taking down maybe 0.01% of his health so decided to read up a bit first. Basically, he has 77 million health and needs to be taken to <40% to be tameable. His Deth Strike ability means he cannot come into striking distance or he instantly kills you. So I tried just kiting him around in a big long circle first behind the spire wall and then in front while slowing him (concussion shot) and using traps while dps'ing. After 30min, I had him down to 70% health but then missed dps'ing him for maybe 10sec after which he evaded and ran back to his starting position. Frustrated, I realised you need to also constantly dps him or he runs away (about every 5sec). So called in a guildy to help dps and we did the same thing again and finally took him down to 40% and I tamed him :-). I read about hunters using their pet as bait for Deth Strike as he loses health each time but this seemed pretty complicated and I tried it but didn't find enough time to rez my pet again before he killed me. So I would recommend just leaving your pet passive and kiting him in one big circle behind and in front of the spire wall. The NPC's standing around even help dps then too (and he also does Deth Strike on some of them which significantly helps take down his health as he loses a good chunck each time). Keep slowing him and slow trapping him while dps'ing with everything you have. Then once below 40%, slow and trap, use spider trap to also keep him busy while dismissing pet and then taming him from as far away as you can to give you sufficient time. Taming time didn't seem an issue when I did it. Very pretty mainly PVP pet.

Yet another cheap and easy way to get him is with a DK friend with Chains of Ice.

1. DK kites him around spamming Chains of Ice.
2. Keeping sending in your pet until he is one kill from being tamable. (Attack, Revive, repeat.....)
3. Revive your pet and dismiss.
4. Get max distance away.
5. Fire an auto shot to have some threat.
6. Put a Frost Trap down between you and Deth'tilac.
7. Have your DK Chain of Ice one last time and quickly sacrifice himself.
8. This puts Deth'tilac into a tamable HP range and you gain aggro.
9. Start taming.
10. WIN!.

I got Skarr, Deth'tilac, and Terrorpene in a matter of 10 minutes. Mind you it is late in the patch. But I'm happy.

I just tamed this beauty on Turalyon 14:30

I was really terrible at it cos i didnt manage to keep my distance the first few times, i took a min to read up on tacs but still he went down to slow for me to keep up with the traps and the running etc.

On my 4th try an undead SP helped nuking him down (im a NE hunter:) and i finally got the tame through:D

I quickly logged over to my alt horde on the same server and mailed him a nice tip and said thnx, its completly awesome when horde/ally can find a way to help eachother out despite their diffrences:p

Using a spider as your sacrificial pet is definitely key if you want to solo this. Like many others have said: Freezing Trap, Concussive Shot, and Revive Pet -- rinse and repeat while kiting around the area out front of where the spider spawns in circles.

One thing to note. Even while keeping auto-shot going and Serpent Sting up on the spider he reset and evade bugged on me numerous times before finally taming.

Just tamed this nice companion at Stormreaver - EU few minutes ago. :)
It was pretty easy, but it took me some time since I solo tamed it (wanted to have some challenge). Just keep throwing ice traps, snake traps and sacrifice your pet all the time until he has low hp enough to be tamed. It's really fun to solo tame it if you want some challenge instead of just pewpew with friends. Really nice companion after all, gl everyone!

I tamed him yesterday using the druid technique and it worked well. The tame happend at 15:30 aproximatively. There was a group that waited for me to come on my hunter and then tried to kill him... Maybe i shouldn't have but i laughed in there faced and after they fail big time on there first attempt i they all left so i was left alone waiting for my druid friend.

Saw him. There wasn't a soul. I didn't have my usual addons, and my bindings were a mess, I wasn't really expecting him to be here. Really, you need nothing special at all in order to tame him. I was BM spec with no glyphs whatsoever, and a really crappy stuff (~10% haste).

- Pull with snake trap, always use both your snake and ice traps whenever they are off cooldown.

- Always have concussive shot on Deth'tilac if possible, also, don't bother wasting your focus on other skills than Revive Pet, Concussive shot, Ice trap, and Snake trap. I recommand that you don't use trap launcher at all, just laying down traps on your way will do the trick, and it's much safer. Deth'tilac's hitbox seems huge, but it's not, and I missed a few ice traps + trap launchers on my very first try because of that, which is quite bothersome (and trap launcher costs you focus, which is of better use in revive pet).

- The hardest part is to find a path to kite him forever whithout him reseting. You can pull it far from its spawn spot, but, don't bring him to close from the cliffs even if it's tempting, because he will cut halfway through and eat you for one thing, but he will also reset most of the time. Take the cleared paths instead, with nice and good LoS.

- Take up to 5 minutes. He won't always instant death strike your pet although it's alive. My pet was Ban’thalos, the spirit owl that I just tamed by pure luck, and had no skill points, nothing. Therefore, your pet choice doesn't really matter as long as Deth'tilac can Death Strike it every once a while. I guess that net or stun abilities may come in handy, but are really not necessary from what I've experienced.

- Try to bring your pet back to life whenever Deth'tilac is under the effect of your ice trap AND your concussive shot. That will also greatly come in handy when you'll be about to tame him at <20% hp if you have very little haste like me. What I did is that I took another "round" of traps-concussive to revive and dismiss my pet, took my time to set things up, and ONLY then I tamed him with another pair of traps + concussive. Safest way to go. Deterrence wasn't used at all, I took no hits.

The key thing is to always keep a safe distance between you and that beast, and to manage a good timing with snares/revive pet/keeping a safe distance.

Worked like a charm for me. As long as you watch and restrain its move speed when needed (revive pet), that shouldn't be too difficult. It's easier than it looks anyway.

My first time a few days ago I got the spider ready for taming then my computer froze and it killed me. An alliance hunter who had been watching tried to steal the tame but Deth one shot the guy and some other people killed it :/
And today I saw it was up with no one else around so I tried again.

Just tamed mine today, ahh I have waited this day so long! Tamed about an hour ago, at arathror server.
Askes fellow guild member, druid, to help me exchange of tip. He said yes and helped me alot!
I tried couples of times alone, but it was too hard, died like 5 times :D And after buddys help, died 0 times, sadly he died maybe 2 times...
He used the roots and I kept reviveing my pet and using snake traps and ice traps, and it took maybe 15 minutes to get her, not sure coulb lot less or lot more time, but I didn't really follow the clock :D
So I can safely say, that if possible ask someone to help you, it saves time to get this beauty!
Tiped like 1000g :D I think this unique spider is worth it!

Ok I'll start off by saying my first attempt at him was a success.

I sent my pet in and hit him with my concussive shot shooting him in-between with a barrage of the usual shots.Pet died so I Kept the concussive shot on him at all times and basically ran him to where the druids are by the portal. I did this because I didn't have any help and I thought I'd give it a try.

Wasn't sure though if the NPC druids would attack him, but to my surprise they did. So I ran around keeping the concussive shot on him while the druids did their thing. It took about 8 minutes but the NPC druids and I got him down to where I could tame him.

Another nice thing the druids do is occasionally root him where he takes his attention off of you but it only last a few moments. It was a good experiment that had great results! Good Luck!

I really don't understand why every one does this the hard way (using pets) here's the easy way

1)Find Deth'tilac spawned (99% of the dificulty)
2)Put on fox (if your dps is even half decent he'll never catch you)
3)kite him to the druid npcs by the zone entrance
4)slowly kite him around druids
5)watch deth kill druids and lose hp doing it
6)tame him
7)profit?

just be careful to tame quickly when he hits 20% so he doesn't suicide on you. Since deth kills the snakes before his spell channels you can use snake trap to delay his death

Have a mage friend help me today to get this pet. She would freeze it and keep tossing attacks on it while I revive pet and slow with ice trap and concuss shot. Be careful of feigning, since we reset it accidentally twice. Did manage to get it after a bit of kiting, heart beating hard! Gorgeous pet! Good luck getting it everyone!

Tried taming the beauty at 12:14 pm on Blade's Edge. Had a very nice Alliance mage (Elgest) giving me an assist and of course, the druids were helping. Problem was, I neglected to do one critical thing: 1) Forgot to keep pet passive - so, when I got Deth to around 20%, my pet attacked and got Death Struck, so I had to resummon, put on passive and then dimsiss. This cost valuable time and by the time I got my spider pet dismissed, Deth was in suicide mode. Needless to say, he died as the tame would not take despite all my desperate efforts.

Moral of the story... don't panic. Burn down, but keep pet PASSIVE. Ice trap, concussive shot and snake traps are your friend. If you kite him around to the front, the druid roots are helpful and give you the extra time to summon your pet. A spider pet is helpful as it webs and provides some extra time to run, revive, whatever.

While this was my best attempt to date (and I did not die), I will wait another 12 hours and try again... *sigh*

EDIT: She popped again at 11:35PM EST. With the assistance of a wonderful Alliance SP and shaman, (Heavenshope and Rowtunda respectively), I was able to tame Deth tonight. Used the method described in this thread. SS, CS, traps, kite, etc. With the help of the two alliance members and an occassional root from the NPC's, I was able to get this lovely spider. Lucky, too, because during the fight, I relaized my power cord came undone and I was running battery. It was just about to go critical. lol.

I don't know if this always happens, but I entered Molten front, and every rare was present, all the spiders and skarr.
I don't really like any of the spiders but Deth, so I decided to give it a shot.
Pain in the ass he is! I did it the very hard way. Took me 4 tries. I would keep consecutive shot on him, and lay down frost trap everytime my pet took a Deth strike.
I would revive him, and just kite him BEHIND where he spawns, I didn't use the druids or anything.
He kept bugging on me though, kept resetting which kind of irritated me because I had him at 15%.
Then the second time I died at 0.1 second from the tame, almost rage quitted.
But got him the 4th time successfully! I love him! I love how he does his sparkle thingy :3.
Was going to try for the green spider, but I already went through hell with Deth and skarr the same night lol. XD

With everyone headed for raids and only sticking around the molten front in hopes of getting the flame elemental pet, there will be fewer hunters going for this awesome spider, also because most who wanted him would've tamed it by now. As for my advice: patience, persistance, and bring a friend or three. If someone is trying to tame it (whether it be Alliance or Horde) give them a hand! People will always appreciate assistance on beautiful tames, and become much happier players when they have help. As for the how-to...sacrificial pet, slow him down via frost traps and concussive shots. Rinse and repeat until his molten will fades (at approx 20% health), and be careful, not only do you have to worry about that deth strike ability, he hits like a truck! Good luck, hunters!

i saw a PvPed friendly hunter and told him there was a huge spider back there. i was trying to help him but who other than 2 other hunters come. Thx to the dwarf for backing away for the remaining 10%.

I got this fellow on Hellscream realm 5 mins ago. following the method that was mentioned.I used my pvp MM specc and my dps gear to do the job and i also used a spider as a sacrifice pet to further slow him down.
The note here is that i got all the rare spiders up at the same time.First i tamed kirix,then solix,then Deth and another guy tamed skitter and another one Anthriss.All of them at the same time!It must be a present from blizz for christmas

While I was camping for Skarr, another hunter asked me to help with this tame, and I happily went along with it since Skarr wasn't going to be showing up any time soon.
Our strategy was to toss aggro back and forth between one another and send our pets in to die.

But anyways, in between us we set snake trap, frost trap, and fire trap. And then we'd send our pets in, when our pets died I'd feign death so the other hunter could pick up aggro. I'd get back up revive my pet and send her in again, then he'd feign. The spider would kill off my pet and then come towards me, so that the other hunter could revive his pet, send him in, rinse and repeat. After a few tosses between aggro, Deth'tilac got down low in HP and was easily tamed by my partner. The frost and snake traps kept it slowed, and the fire did a little bit of additional damage to help speed up the pace. It didn't take long and was pretty easy. Surprisingly fun as well.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but if he's casting deth strike, and you manage to tame him in the middle of that cast, he'll finish it anyways. You'll still tame him alright, but you'll also die.

I guess I had some pretty amazing luck. He was spawned the first time I went looking for him as a "why the hell not?" whim. I even had time to go back to a stable master, open some space on my call pet ability, go back, tame a trash spider and try taming him several times. No one bothered me at all.

I died about 5 times, and had to feign death twice before getting the hang of it / not screwing up.

-ENTRAPMENT IS VERY USEFUL. He's immune to freezing trap, but ice trap with Entrapment will pin him down for 4 seconds and then slow him down. It also helps if he gets pinned while triggering the snake trap.

If you're specc'ed into entrapment, you probably don't need any sort of haste potion because he can't move for 8 seconds (with two traps down).

-Also, I found it very easy to jump/turn/disengage to get past him when you're at the end of the ledge he's on. Just make sure it's while your pet is still alive and taking the damage, or RUN. There is a range on the cast, so if you manage to get out of it before he finishes the cast, you're safe.

Sometimes I do wish there was a turn against ally option. I was going through the process of taming this pet. And this same faction member decides to kill it. I asked him politely to not. He continued to try and kill it by himself after Deth killed him a few times. Then finally when I got Deth to very low, he finished it off. What a $%^&*!bag move, seriously.

Anyways, the snake traps as suggested by other comments do not work, at least for me. What it will do is help keep her from resetting if you have no serpent sting on her for a short bit. What I tried to do was kite her from her location down the path and then at the end of the path, put your pet on her and run through her so you can go down that path back to her spawn point and repeat it. It takes some getting used to, but hopefully you'll get it before some !@#$%^bag comes along like what happened to me.

The process was tedious but i finally got it.

Was doing some dailies in the zone and npcscan flashed.
I was reading it a bit here and thought i could give it a shot
Suicided my pet trap+snakes
everything is going smoothly
i go on the edge to attract no mobs
long story short i attracted mobs and was cornered 3 times in a row
2 times i timed my pet rez badly and got killed by the spider
so i took a small break and read here
Searched for a druid in molten front
Teleported back to SW and tried to find a druid and didnt
went back to molten front
tried 2 other times and failed (mobs again)
Checked in social for 85 druids
1 was online and i messaged him
im very tired and he probably misunderstood me(i was offering him 100g)
he ignores me thinking im begging him
i ask a friend to message him saying i was misunderstood
Druid has to finish his dungeon
Wait
Druid unblocks me, i message him
before he arrives i check my pets
i have 5
realise how stupid i am
tele back to SW
Come back to molten front
Druid vines the spider
Tell pet to go there(im sorry Morris the spider)
8 times
tame
talk with druid about rares(he has an hunter alt)
pay him
close game at 6:55 am

easy way or not i got it and im happy now, only missing Skarr and my molten front hunt is complete.

Just tamed deth after 3 days of tryinng while doing dailys, so here's my exp take from it what you want.

1. found him every time behind the forlorn spire when i went up to do the shadow wardens dailys

2. after several attempts the best way i found to do it was kite him back to the breach and frost trap/stun shot him around there, the dumb ass npc's will get , pull him up to the edge when he starts to get low health so he dosn't suacide him self, then frost trap+stun shot &tame beast
took 4 attemps, first and second trys he killed himself while i was taming third try i got killed by the invading mobs, hence why pull him of to the side on low health the npc's will go back to protecting the breach.

3. this is a bit of a faff but it's very easy with a bit of care to do this just on your own if theres not many ppl around.

4. it would be easyer and quicker ofc to get ppl with pets (or dumb asses) to sacrifice themselfs but that would take the challenge out of it and rob you of the epic hunterness i feel.

Tried to tame this just now, failed miserably several times with the sacrifice/trap method..

First and most common reason was him randomly losing aggro and evading, even right after I landed shots on him... I wasn't even far enough away to revive my pet most of the time. Most frustrating thing ever. He ditched at 30% quite a few times -_-

Second reason would be the snakes occasionally not attracting his attention. Not a huge deal, just means more kiting around before reviving pet, but doing so usually lead to the first reason...

Didn't end up taming him because some ally mage ran up pulled threat and killed him when he got down to 20% -_- Probably won't see Deth again for a while now :(

Just like to say I died multiple times. My first attempt he ended up killing himself cuz he got me right before tame was finished. But came back later on that day he was back again. Used the said method killin pet keepin CS on him frost trap worked everytime. Snake trap seemed to not work at all. so frost and CS is what did it if he got to close to me after ressing my pet i would FD and go the other way. Just used a spider in the area as a sacrifice tame. Slightly different strategy without multiple pet sacrificing/reviving:

Get behind the pillar, in position behind Deth.
Launch frost trap, then snake trap a bit behind it.
Send in pet, hit spider with concussive shot, load up stings.
Continue dps on Deth as you kite him backwards down the ledge. (Be careful, the ledge is very narrow here on the corner of the tower and its easy to fall. I found the spider will sometimes reset or give "evade" message taking him around the tower the other direction. )
Keep stings up on him, use concussive shot as you kite Deth back to Malfurion's Breach where you pick up dailies.
Once you get him up by the quest-givers, all the druids should start laying into him with wrath.
At this point, just continue to dps him. Keep stings up on him, use concussive shot to slow him and keep your distance. (Be careful with trap placement as there are constant mobs coming in and you do not want their aggro on top of the spider's.)
As you kite him around, he will occasionally Deth-strike npc's if you stay up front by them, lowering his health. (Note: This area is considered a Sanctuary for game purposes and the npc's will not die from the attack.)
Be ready to tame him once his molten will buff drops off, when his health reaches below 20%.

I only had aggro drop off once, but a quick scatter shot remedied this. Also, there were a couple of players in the area doing dailies that helped out a bit on the dps. Make sure you dismissed or abandoned the pet you had up intially so you can tame him. Good luck and happy huntin'!

I just tamed Deth'tilac at 10:15 am, on US Icecrown. So, here's what I did.

NPCscan went off saying Deth'tilac was near, and I saw her behind the Forlorn Spire. I had never really been interested in the spider pets, but once I saw her in person I was intrigued. I logged onto Wowhead and read up on her, and my method worked on the first try.

1. Lay an Ice trap near her. Send your pet in and apply Serpent Sting. She will kill your pet, then come after you. The Ice trap will slow her down.
2. Kite her around the pillars and over to where the daily quest NPCs are. Once in range, they will start dpsing her.
3. Keep kiting her in circles and using Ice trap and Concussive shot to keep her slowed. Always keep Serpent Sting up as well. Stay out of melee range, or she will use Deth Strike and kill you.
4. At some point, get far enough back to rez your dead pet and dismiss him.
5. Once she is at 20% health, her Molten Will will come off. Then just step back and tame!

There were a few other players questing in the area (both horde and alliance) that came over to help get her health down, which I appreciated. A few were even other hunters.

Okay so here is how I got him.
I am beast mastery btw but I doubt it make a difference
I put a ice trap in between us then sent in my pet
He killed my pet then I used concussive shot while walking backwards fairly close to him(earlier I got to far away and he went back to his spawn point) I used aspect of the fox and cobra shot to keep serpent sting up.
I did not use any more ice traps on him, I used the ice block trap on the adds, once I got him to the Druid area I rezed my pet dissmissed it then waited for its hp to drop once it was low enough I clicked tame and got him.(his health was dangerously low when I got him though)

Hope this helps it worked for me(and I dident even die)lol

So unlike a lot of others here, i'm on a PVP server (alterac mountains) on alliance and while I was attempting to tame this beast by myself I was first assaulted by 2 other hunters at different times, both of them apologized and helped me bring her below 20% for taming.

So just to add a positive outlook, my gankers turned out to be pretty nice, one of them had tamed Deth' before he was using his to help me root her.

All-in-all a really fun tame and probably the first challenging thing I have done in this game, compared to questing.

Woot got Deth last night and I used the Druid method. After trying to tame it 4 times only to have it suicide on me using the kite to npc method ( I don't recommend this method)

I was lucky enough to find Deth again and was going to start kiting when luck would have it a Druid was running past the area. I whispered what I was doing and she was kind enough to help.

She rooted him 9 times while I revived and sent my trash pet spider in for sacrifice. 9th time you want to revive pet and dismiss immediately before she Deth strikes again.

Deth was still rooted and webbed from my fresh dismissed spider so I stepped back, hit cobra shot, rapid fire and tame!

Now I have this sweet looking spider pet!

To those of you who did this tame alone my hats off to you! A DK would work just as well. Good luck!

OK, I cheated a little because I have two accounts, but I used the druid method. I tagged the spider and sent in my pet, then on another computer just spammed the heck out of roots until he had killed my pet enough times and was tameable. One note though is that he gets a movement speed buff that is nasty if you do not hit him with a shot every once in a while. Just an arcane shot so you don't leave a dot on him. Also I used snake traps and was running a survival spec for lower trap cooldowns.

I now offically have all of the spiders from Molten Front. I stopped farming them after DS came out and every time I saw this purple monster it was with 20 horde trying to kill it or let one of their hunters tame.

So I was actually taught by a friend how to solo tame Deth'tilac without having to revive your pet 8 times or using your friends to die for you over and over again so heres what to do:
1st. Start to pull Deth over to the Malfurions Breach becareful to avoid other mobs
2nd. Pull Deth into the soldiers fighting the other mobs
3rd. Deth can actually perform Deth Strike on these NPC's also so repeat this till you can tame
Just be careful not to pull him near to many soldiers if you do you might actually end up making him kill himself with his own Deth Strike so be sure to pull him away fast.
And thats how you solo tame Deth'tilac

Pulled him, he one shotted my pet then I kited him to the quest givers the other side of where he spawns. the druids there entangle him which helped alot. keep using disengage and slowly bring him down running circles around him. tamed at about 10% no trouble.

After a bit of difficulty solo-taming him, a friend from my Guild offered to help.

Amazing Strategy:
We had two Hunters (me being one of them). We both used our Frost trap, and Concussive Shots. One of us would send our pet in, then the other, alternating. Once his health was low enough, we both dismissed, I popped Haste pot, and tamed him.

With alternating between pets, it becomes much, much more easy to tame him, versus trying to do it solo.

Just tamed him this morning with a guildie on Darrowmere at about 0630 server time. It took a few tries and a lot of patience, but we persevered. He had a prot warrior, and just provided backup to help me get my pet up and to help keep him slow. This is the one pet that I really, really wanted from the Molten Front.

-I did not have the Druid's quests active, so it was just me and him and a bunch of little spiders!

Someone announced Deth'tilac up and headed over. I figured the place would be swarming with hunters trying for him but at 1am server time it was empty. I have little experience with kiting so my first few attempts were failures. Went over to YouTube and saw this video < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X41lzyAk3ks&feature=related >. Helped a lot! It's much different to see it done than read about it. But the comments here also helped with the details of what to use and the video showed the mechanics of how to do it. By 2am server time (2/21/2012 - Silvermoon server), I am the proud owner of Deth'tilac as a pet. Love it!

Definitely the hardest tame I've had yet. Just tamed him on Lothar. I even had gotten a few claps from fellow hunters who were in the area who said they had given up. I just pulled him down into the area where the druids are and let them pull aggro off of me. I would then hit him with concussive shot, and AS, then ice trap as I pulled aggro away from them. I died once, but ran back to see the druids still had him where I left him. I was pretty mad when I died because I had him at like 40% health...thought I was going to have to start all over. The charred soldiers is what kept getting me, because I would pull 3 or 4 of them while trying to kill Deth. Then when I came back and got him down to 10% health I tried taming him...well it said I still had an active pet. So I had to revive my pet in which time the damn charred soldiers kept attacking and almost killing me. Thought for sure I was done for. I feigned death, and then started all over. I was starting to get worried that the druids were going to kill him. I then got up, shot him, and then when he started walking toward me I gave him a concussive shot, and laid down an ice trap. I then had enough time to tame him. WOO HOO! Lets hope this guy is as good of a pet as he was an enemy!

After watching I decided to try soloing it. After a few attempts I learned a couple things:

-Having a talent spec with Entrapment makes this so, so much easier.
-Use a Cinderweb Creeper from nearby as your sacrificing pet. Use his Web when he begins casting Deth Strike on said spider.
-When you get the Deth'tilac to 20% you need to abandon your most-likely-dead spider and use Freezing Trap. If it's down use your Readiness(If Marksman) to get it back up. Concussive Shot and tame.
- Deth Strike, even in mid-cast, can be out-ranged should you find yourself on the edge of Firelands and needing to strafe the other way. Disengage if great for getting you the space.
-Snake Trap can still be useful with Entrapment and also for getting more space. If you find .yourself in a corner, have him walk over a trap and Feign Death so your snakes will pull agro. While this will not allow him to use a Deth Strike it makes sure that he will not Deth Strike you as you run by. I did not test it but toss a shot at him to make sure he does not reset (as he would not have threat after you feigned and ran).

Don't forget to put your pet on PASSIVE if you are trying to tame this pet and you are using the res pet>kill pet strategy.

I messed this up for myself because when me and 2 other friends got him to 5%, I tried to tame and I couldn't because my (dead) pet was not dismissed. I put down a Ice Trap and res'd my pet, and what did he do? He went right for Deth, and Deth took his sweet life with 1 swift Deth Strike to my pet.

A lost rare and a sad hunter.

So here's a sad tale. I'm going around doing the firelands dailies when I see two horde hunters Orc and Blood Elf working together kiting Dethilac around. I watch them go back and forth around the wall, never using pets to sacrifce. Having tamed Dethilac myself I knew not to disturb them but I wanted to help them. Only the orc has his pet out so I start emote pointing at it and then at dethilac . I'm trying to hint to use the pet to bring down the health(I'm alliance and can't straight up tell them). Of course it doesn't work so I just leave and let them at their work. Then I come back and now deth's health is pretty low but not quite ready to tame. Again, I try to hint to use the pet and (duh!) doesn't work. So I stand there a while longer watching them. Finally they bring him down to tameable , I see one of the hunters cast tame beast and fails, casts again, fails again, too close to the spider. One more time and fails again. This is where it gets worse. Since both were attacking Dethilac, it catches up to the orc first and deth strikes him. Then it turns to the other hunter and at this point Deth has only a thin sliver of his health bar. Then BAM! deth strikes the blood elf which kills himself, too! Dead hunters and dead Dethilac. It almost felt as if it had been my loss, too, because I was as anxious and nervous watching them as I had been when I tamed him myself.It was pretty bad.

So I have been trying to tame this pet for a bit now and I have always managed to get myself ganked by the opposite faction (horde) or by some stupid ally hunter that hangs about till you get him down to the right hp and sends in his pet just when u are dismissing yours so that deth'tilac kills his pet killing deth.
Anyways the 3rd attempt worked and while i was busy kiting, it was that crucial last 10% hp that was hard. I managed to not make enough room between Deth'tilac and me while taming and he was on me during the tame, I was worried crazy cause he was hitting me during the last bit of the tame and then BLAM!
Deth'tilac laid dead and glittering before me, I was in spirit form and had to release and my heart stopped...
So I release and i'm at the GY and when I come back to my corpse theres no more glittering Deth'tilac to loot!
I res and check my pets and what do you know, I see the spider logo in there... my heart stops again and I call pet to get the "your pet is dead" sign up on screen, so I rez pet and there you have it, deth'tilac in all his glory...
I guess it all came down to split seconds but I am thrilled the split seconds went my way... If theres anything I can share with other hunters, it would be the following...
1) don't gank a fellow hunter, stick around at the most n use your ice trap to help him out.
2) make sure you put good distance between u and deth'tilac before taming and more so plant that last ice trap before stepping back to tame...

just tamed on Twisting Nether eu at 1:28 pm server time.it was easy here is my tactic:

-i didnt use pet.used ice trap and immolation trap on my path (i was going to kite him to the druids which are standing near the starting zone) (beware the other mobs you dont want to pull them too)
-so i started to kite him
-i keeped up concussive shot / serpent sting / ice trap on him while i was kiting
-when we were near the druids, they started to attack spider,rooted him,and i was kiting and nuking at this moment
-later his hp burned quickly
-when his hp was low enough i tamed him. it was so easy.

One Important thing to note:
Deth'tilac CAN KILL HIMSELF
Also, once your pet dies, even if his frame has gone, he's still considered summon. I found this out the hard way.
Deth killed himelf, me and my dreams in one strike as I was trying to summon and dismiss.

Was about to leave Molten Front when NPC scan went off announcing this beautiful spider had spawned. My heart started to race so I ran over to where it was targeted, got her attention and kited her all the way back to quest area so the guards could help me kill. I had to res my pet so I could dismiss it but while I was trying to res it Deth killed me. So I ran back to my body, his ressurect, saw that she had only like 10% health left then remembered I needed to dismiss pet. Saying every swear word under the sun I was frantically egging my res to go faster then I looked back up and my heart sunk. They had killed her! I was so disappointed. But on the plus I managed to tame Kirix with 2 other hunters around :D

Well, my boyfriend and I just did this without anyone dying. Of course it took about 45 minutes but we got it done. I'm an arcane mage, he's the hunter; between us we had three slows that made kiting very easy and kept us from being hit by Deth. I'd pop mirror images/timewarp/arcane power when they were up, which made things go faster. So to say that this pet is ONLY "won" via sacrifices is incorrect. If you're bored/masochistic, you can do it the slow, non-death way.

I recently helped my guild's hunter tame this awesome guy. It took us a few tries to get the mechanics down pat, but we eventually did it. As a Destro Warlock, keeping the speed buff off of him wasn't much of a problem, just kept my Imp on him constantly so Burning Embers would stay up.

Searing Pain actually came in handy this time, as I used it to draw aggro from the hunter while he revived his pet, then kited him around in a circle, teleporting to my Demonic Circle whenever I ran out of room to run. After sacrificing many pets and imps, we eventually managed to get it down to about 18% health, at which point the hunter managed to tame him.

If you have another friend with a pet, like a Warlock, this can help greatly as well, as well as being able to Soulstone the hunter in case of a failed tame attempt.

After failing to tame Solix and Skitterflame (I actually accidentally killed both), I decided to work on Deth'tilac with a mage friend. This was by far one of the most interesting rares to tame.

We started off misdirecting to another spider pet (so he would slow Deth with his web), then I immediately tossed out an ice and snake trap in front of him. As I pulled him with concussive shot, my mage friend was using as many slows as she could while we dps'd and used traps on cd.

Every minute or so, I would use ice trap and concussive together, run as far as I could to rez my pet, then use him as a sacrifice again.

Also, as soon as I ran out of room to kite, I would run through him while simultaneously turning around, dropping an ice trap, and using disengage.

As he started nearing 20%, I ran out of room to kite again, but died because I hit a wall when I turned to use disengage. Luckily, my mage friend kept aggro while I ran back, revived my pet, dismissed it, and tossed another ice and snake trap. She stopped dpsing and I had just enough time to run to max range and cast tame pet.

The tame finished just as he killed me. I got rezzed by my friend and summoned my new purple spider. :)

Did this today for my girlfriend with the help of a guild Frost DK and my affliction lock because we had an alliance hunter continuously attacking us. Between Chains of Ice, Frost Trap, Concussive Show, Exhaustion, and glyphed Shadowflame we could actually reduce Deth's move speed to nothing.

After about 15 minutes of kiting we found ourselves at Forlorn Spire where the NPCs started to attack Deth. The NPCs rooted Deth but more importantly they took aggro and Deth was just spinning in circles and using Deth Strike on the NPCs. After about 2 minutes I noticed Molten Will was off and we massive slowed Deth and she successfully tamed Deth'tilac!

Tired to help someone tame this guy on my Pally and we got him down to 20% pretty quick but the hunter decided to kite him to the the NPC's. He died and then I died. The NPC's finished off the spider. The buff was off him at 20% and the hunter didn't start the taming. Kept trying to stun him but the hunter did nothing. He was upset that the NPC's killed the spider off so a #1 recommendation Don't kite him to the NPC'S! They'll just beat the crude out of him and you'll get screwed out of the pet!

Got this guy today, Did it solo! Was pretty hard im not going to lie, Shot him.. slowed him.. kitted him... etc etc, kept ressing my pet and letting him kill him, Then finally.. I got him down to about 10% ish, put down a trap ran dismissed my pet... and tamed him! :) Was simple after I got the hang of it, amazingly today I got all of the molten front rare spiders! In one day! I tamed them all, Still yet to see skarr tho :( Oh well :)

I am marksman hunter...this was very easy...didn't get hit once. I soloed her...no pet.

She was right behind forlorn spire...I pulled her into the NPCs (yes they do attack her...it takes a little bit for them to start but it adds some much needed dps for solo) and spammed concussive and chimera slowing her. All you do is run rectangles around her...spamming those two...trying to keep her in the middle. Then when her no tame buff is off...concuss ...throw ice trap down then tame....she never even hit me.

My blood elf hunter caught this on Argent dawn yesterday around 22:00 realm time. It was my first time in Molten front and the purpose was to camp for Skarr, which I tamed later on, a stranger whispered letting me know Deth'tilac has spawned so I began searching like mad without knowing about the beast. I found it by the right edge of the map behind the huge purple architecture. Completely unaware tacts were needed I recklessly pressed tame button few times only to be spirit running like hell.

Which tact did I use at the end? Sacrifice pet - snake trap - ice trap to begin with but with pet dead and Deth'tilac stalking me I began repeating the process and kited him in circles. It took absolutely ages, about half an hour, and messy as due to his spawn spot going in circles was the only option if I didn't want to aggro other spiders. At about 80% health left few other alliance helped out and this priest stuck till the end just so I can tame him.

Therefore it needs to be said like with all rare pets but especially with Molten front pets, do not kill them please and let a hunter tame it. If you see a hunter struggling or kiting please lend a hand, I was about to pay for volunteers so if lucky you get some pocket money and free ticket to watching it being tamed successfully or miserably failing. To hunters, yes please look at the recommended tacts first, do not interrupt or steal if another hunter is taming first, if possible get a guildy or friend to help out especially a Druid. Good luck!

I don't think Deth'tilac is female but whatever.

I never died on taming pet till now. I haven't even read tactics on him, just because I wanted to figure it out by myself - that's why I died about 6x. But I still don't get it - first two deaths it was corpse run, and next ones I was just ressed at graveyard lol. When I saw hunters around I quickly ressed pet and gone there again o.O Mob that can kill ya so easy have to be yours!

I found him near cliff (don't know if I'm spelling right), so I decided to not use disengage, cuz I could fall like idiot. And my first trap was snake trap, then ice trap, nothing more. Snakes slowed him down, and removed his buff, I got preety much time to ress pet. I also was using aspect of cheetah for speed. I hitted him with arcane shot in panic "don't come closer" - I kept aggro on myself to pet had time to web instead of dying from damage.
Shhh I took him down to 15m hp and then he killed me, it was wtf. But I was too exited to ress pet again, my fault.
There's a little thing there. In place when he was standing was a rock or something like this, ya know, he couldn't pass throught it, and took him a time. Even when he was so near I had a time to ress pet, and run.

And tbh - he avoid some of my traps. He just passed through them, dunno why and how. :S

i died 8 times from derp derp and just bad kiting on my part. but i learned from my mistake and now i have him as my pet.

tamed him as Survival hunter. the extra snake trap and ice trap talent Entrapment helped me out in major ways.

I personally found the use of Snake Trap to be unnecessary, but that could just be me.

I just threw down Ice Trap and fire Concussive Shot EVERY time it came off cooldown. I also tried to place the Ice Trap in such a way that Deth'tilac would still be slowed from CS when he went over the trap; I had instances where he would already be halfway out of the ice area when the trap activated, which obviously wouldn't slow him for long.

Did it with turtle too, because I forgot the spider idea. Just make sure you CS him every time it comes off cooldown and throw down an ice trap before you start reviving.

I literally JUST tamed this guy on Exodar at about 4:52am. I solo'd it too. :)

Easiest way to tame this beast is pretty simple really.

1. Send in your pet as a sacrifice.
2. Make sure to use concussive shot, everytime its up.
3 Use frost trap along with CS everytime they're up.
4. Keep your distance, don't get too close 'cause you will get hit and most likely die.
5. While he's in your frost traps and CS, revive your pet then send in again. Deth Strike does 10% to his health everytime its used. So you want to do it as much as possible.
6. After he's done to 20% your killshot will highlight, and MAKE sure you hit him with CS and frost trap again then tame at MAX distance.

Snake trap doesn't really help much, I didn't use it at all.

I found it a lot easier kiting him around that tower, because I was at that point with the dailies where their were other NPC's up by the Forlorne Spire. So once they see him they start attacking and rooting him which was a HUGE help.

I, as a very good hunter, received help from another hunter to tame this spider. So, i returned the favor by helping any hunter i see wanting to tame this pet, even if they're alliance.

The method i use is easy, involves two hunters, but takes time. All that is needed is for one hunter to pull him, and send out their pet. A spider works best, but there are no spiders around the forlorn spire for you to use.... ;) Deth'tilac will kill it using Deth Strike, and continue after you. if the hunter who wants to tame has a pet, he or she can send that one in and have it rezzed. But its easier to rez if Deth'tilac is going after the OTHER hunter.... Keep using ice traps to keep him slowed. When he gets to one side of the area behind the spire, whoever he is going after will feign death, and Deth'tilac will go after the other one. At one point the tamer will need to rez pet (if needed) and dismiss while the other hunter just uses their pet to get Deth'tilac's health lowered a bit more to tame. At that point, the tamer needs to get a good distance while the other hunter feigns, maybe throw down an ice trap and concussive shot, tame, and BAM! You got a spider that will annoy the crap out of pvpers.

Also helpful to just have a druid. But you cant always get a druid that wants to come out here.

For helping hunters tame this, i have received up to 2000g. So...why would you kill it for a measly 25g tear? Shame on you!

I just completed the taming challenge today at 7pm Server time on Garona. I just came to Molten Front from taming Terrorpene and decided to try for Solix if he is up. Solix was not up so I decided to do the daily quest there. NPC Scan popped with Deth being up when I was in the cave where Solix was. So I made my way up there.

I know I am just a newly 85 hunter and probably dont have the gear to tame him. But I wanted him so bad anyway. So I decided to go ahead and try. When I got there there was a tauren druid hanging around. I just messaged him to help and he did. But I guess I wasnt sure if he was ready and decided to just wait but he just jumped right in and was killed instantly. So I sent my pet in and it died instantly and so did I. When I was running from the Grave yard to my body, Skarr popped up.. I was thinking great this sucks. But Skarr I was thinking I will wait till next time cause by the time I get there he will probably be gone.

So I rez and this time I messaged my friend who is a pally to come help. I waited for her to show up and in the meantime I tamed a nearby spider following what the videos and comments say. I sent my spider in just to be killed by Deth. I dropped a lot of freezing traps to slow it down and between me and the pally, we both got Deth down to 20%. But me in my huntard moment I didnt dismiss my pet in time and it kept on killing Deth. I keep rezzing my pet and it keeps attacking and dying. This was frustrating and then finally i got stuck between some rocks and it lost agro and was completely reset

My pally friend told me to leave the pet dismissed and try again. So we did. We freeze trap, stun and just DPS it down. Around that time there were 2 other hunters that showed up. One of them helped first and then the other one jumped in later. We wanted to kite Deth back to the guard zone but my dumb ass lost my way so ended up pulling it around the rock area. IT was painfully slow taking this beast down to 20%.

A while later the druid came back and decided to help again and he rooted Deth and provide some extra DPS. I am really really greatful to both horde and alliance for just jumping in to help.. I am sorry I dont remember their names but whoever you are I am Beressa and I deeply thank you for all the help provided in taking Deth down to 20%. Once there, there were 3 freeze traps activated and I started taming without taking any damage at all!

Just tamed him at 7:00am on Aggramar. The best thing for this tame is to use the talent point Entrapment (under survival). I was only speccd for Beastmaster but went and got a second spec to have that talent. That helps alot with keeping him slowed down.

I tamed a molten front spider as a throw away for taming this guy. I used Serpent sting, concussive shot and black arrow as dots to avoid the debuff he gets when there is no damage being done. Kept using the Ice trap and snake trap whenever possible to give time to rez pet.

I kited him back and forth in his spawn area. Use disengage to go thru him when you hit either end but be careful not to either aggro a molten front spider, or go off the cliff.

This guy was wicked and killed me more times than I'm going to admit on here. But he is sooo worth the effort.

Tamed Her today.
Easy tame as all I did was kite her back to the portal, ( walked backwards with serpent sting to keep her slowed and following).
Once at the portal area ( Malfurions Breach ) just kept my distance and droped Ice trap and kept shooting to keep agro.
All the NPC's in the area attacked her so after a few minutes of playing tag with her she was ready to be tamed.

Takes time but never died and had a easy tame by the end of it.

My NPCScan went off at 2:21AM EST this morning on Area 52 while I was waiting for a dungeon to pop. He/she was right behind the big statue thingy. I was alt-tabbed and I heard it go off and I nearly fell out of my chair in excitement. After two deaths, I called in the help of my husband who, as a Rogue, poisoned and slowed him/her so I could revive my pet and kite with traps and such. If you're soloing this make sure to spam Ice Trap and Concussive Shot to keep the spider slowed. The minute Deth'tilac gets close to you, he/she will Deth Strike, so keep backing up, even if you're near the end of your cast. Either way, took me about 10 minutes and this cute little spider was mine!

I can confirm that the best way to tame this guy is to have a druid partner to root him. Send your pet in to sacrifice 8 times then tame. Make sure your parter doesn't root him until after Deth'tilic has used his 1 shot ability. Then root, revive, and repeat. Easy as pie.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but here goes...

Solo'd this easily by kiting him to the portal npc's, then at this point, you want to bring out a spider pet, and just root him near the npc's, he'll death strike one of the nearby npcs for 10% of his hp, rinse and repeat.

Took about 5 min, easy as pie!

Been trying to get this spider for months, but every time I check it isn't up. Today my NPC Scan finally went off saying he was alive and I started to run up all excited that I would finally be able to get my last hunter challenge... just in time to see some jackass kiting Deth'tilac to the front where it died from killing the guards. The guy kiting it saw me right as it died and decided it would be funny to spam /lol at me. People like that are the ones that just completely ruin the game for others.

Just tried to tame this pet. Went to malfurion's breach like said in the comments. Think I went too far in. His health was going on a slow decline then all of a sudden BAM from 3mil he was dead. Tried taming at 20% health but he died before tame could finish. Damn ¬_¬

Gonna add another "yay for nice players" story... A couple of my pet resses went bad while I was doing this so I was literally kiting him all over the molten front. A horde druid in cat form sees this worgen dragging a huge spider around and instantly runs into the spider to die. Twice. Shortly after that a night elf hunter sends in her corehound to die and keeps dots up on him to slow him down. Finally a shadow priest spams mind flay on him to keep him slowed and I send my pet in to die one last time. He hits 20%, the other hunter feigns death, and my tame finishes seconds before he manages to strike me. I did a /ty to everyone around and the horde druid /cheered while the hunter and priest congratulate me. So many nice players on some servers. :3

Just confirmed that having a druid spam Entangling Roots works perfectly. Just have the hunter keep resurrecting their pet and send it into Deth'tilac. He becomes tamable at 20%. Incredibly easy tame given the right partner.

Did this last night. Had a mage guildie kite him and pop his mirror images. When Deth hits the image, 10% of the spider's health goes down. No need to dps her down. Concussion shot and ice trap to slow her. Wait for the third set of mirror images to die and she will be between 20-24%. Concusion shot and ice trap between you and her = easy tame. GL! And tyty to mah guildies in DB that helped! <3

Hello.I'm a neutral player.I have an all Horde realm and two Alliance realms.Well,i was on my lil Gob this morning and i found Deth so i tried to tame this pretty spider.(with the help of a nice guild member and another hunter.)We got her down to 49% and then a NE Priest decided to try and kill it while we're trying to lower her health.I died and came back to find a NE Hunter there as well.Deth kept going back and fourth between myself,the priest and the NE Hunter and at 6% hp left the damn NE Hunter tamed it.God,i was soo mad,not at just the fact that i lost the spider and i wasted these 2 peoples time but the fact that another person behind their comp would actually come up and do this to another person.It is just shocks the hell out of me sometimes that people can be so F***ed up and all this over an in game pet.Why the hell cant you guys just let other people tame the pet they're trying to tame? you can just get the damn thing again!.I guess thats the big difference between females and males..I know for damn sure another female wouldnt be such a B**** about a rare because they want them too and im pretty sure there's alot more females like myself that play this game than you guys think.

I just got Deth'tilac about five minutes ago, and I managed to get his health down to about 5% in less than 10 mins, with no help from other players. What I did was kite him to Malfurion's Breach and then when the Hyjal Defender's rooted him he just used Deth Strike on them, he went down pretty quickly and when he got to about 15k I pulled him away from the group. This is an easy way to tame on a low population server, as long as you pull him out before he kills himself with Deth Strike. This may not be the most favorable way to tame on a higher population server as other players may try to screw you over and take aggro while you're taming on they may just ninja the tame themselves if they get aggro. Good luck to all of you trying to tame him and have fun!

Leading him around and keeping trapped and concussion shot works, was helping a guild mate until an alliance hunter named, Athenaz on the Undermine server ran up and hit tame right before the other and stole it. But at least we didn't try to kill the spider although I thought about it just to keep him from watching and stealing right at the last moment.

Okay. Tamed today at roughly 6 in the morning after a LOT of trial and error. He was just sat there, so I thought I would give it a try.

He cost me 300g in repairs but finally I worked out a basic method that doesn't include bothering a level 85 druid.

Deth is located on a cliff-edge. One side is a wall to your right(The sort of design shared with Sulfuron Keep) and a perilous drop to your left. What you want to do is use one of the basic spider pets readily available (I recently tamed Karkin and he has a 4 second root as a crab) for their web ability.

The only hunter abilities you will need.
Kill Command (If Deths holding a grudge against you)
Serpent Sting (Keeps down Deth Metal)
Concussive shot (Use this on cooldown)
Trap Launcher with Ice Trap)

Step 1) Calm yourself. Take a deep breath. Make sure your pet is on passive as this requires some pet-coordination.

Step 2) Send in your pet and hit kill command. Immediately after, apply a Serpent sting to Deth and use Trap Launcher to place an Ice Trap (Not Freezing) a few meters in front of him between yourself and he. Do not shoot the trap under Deth or he will exit its radius faster.

Step 3) Deth will steamroll your pet. Make sure theres some serious distance between you, hit concussive shot and immediately hit revive pet.

Step 4) Run with your pet, keeping concussive shot on cooldown and serpent string applied until Ice Trap is off cooldown. When its ready, pet in, let it aggro, repeat steps 2 and 3.

Step 5) Continue doing this until you reach the end of the Firelands-looking wall, remain calm as you do so.

Step 6) At the end of the wall, U-turn around the end of it so that you end up kiting along the other side of the wall and towards the area with the portal; My reasoning for doing this is that it offers a lot of space, clear visibility and when I did it there were -No- mobs except for one Cinderweb Creeper, and they have an incredibly low aggro-radius, whereas when I tried pulling him towards the area with the Druids of the Flame, they kept respawning and aggroing.

Remember steps 2 and 3. The moment that ice trap is up and running send your pet in, maximum range between you and deth.

Step 7) Just keep kiting, jump down ledges but don't corner yourself. When you get to the bottom of the ledges, to your right there should be a lava-burster and to your left, a big spikey rock. Kite him around this rock. Don't worry about the mobs, they're pre-aggro'd on the Hyjal defenders. Just mind the Lava Burster. Then kite him back up the "Road" you can see. By now, if you've been doing the steps 2 and 3, he should be tamable. Do one last revive -> dismiss, launch ice trap, serpent sting, concussive, and Tame.

This route is devoid of annoying trash and provides high visibility for people looking to see where they're going.

I just tamed this a minute ago. And I think that this pet is the hardest pet I have ever tamed.
However when you knew what to do it was pretty esasy.
So here is what you need to do.

1. Get a pet that you can abadon. A pet you dont need. And a dps who can help you.
2. When you find the Deth'tilac. ( I found it in the corner. Like; 70,2. 73.2.)
3. A) Use snake trap as near Deth'tilac as possible. B) Explode trap and C) Ice trap.
4. Attack Deth'tilac with serpent sting. And make sure ur pet attack.
5. Your pet will die. And Deth'tilac is going to attack you. Till it comes near snake trap and the snakes will get aggro. And you have to run backwards all the time. And as soon as ur pet had died you need to revive it. And make sure Serpent sting is active! IMPORTANT.
6. Let your pet attack again. And A) Snake trap. B) Explode trap. C) Ice trap.
Do this again and again.
The dps you brought have to make sure the other mobs dont kill you. Or attack you. And if Deth'tilac is attacking the dps you brought you need to take aggro asap. Because the spider can respawn. So use serpent and distracting shot.
7. When the Deth'tilac has 19% health. You need to revive your pet and abadon it. Use ice trap and get a distance and tame it.

IF YOU ARE LUCKY and you find Deth'tilac at 70.2, 73.2 u can run backwards to the mountain at 73.6 . 50.8 and go around the mountain. And the when Deth'tilac reaches like 40% health then pull it back to where you found it. And when you reach that point it is going to have like 20% health. And if it doesnt u just need to pull it to the mountain again.

Solo tamed him on 2nd try. First try got her down to 30-40% but she got a cast off on me.

I went as BM speced into entrapment. I tamed a nearby spider and speced it into all the movement speed talents. I ran her back and forth on her area without kiting her into the spider mobs. Timed my traps carefully, while making sure to send in pet while she was on one of the ends of her path, killing my pet instead of me, so i could kite her back the way she came.

Tried it with a wolf, but the spiders web assures she will cast 'deth strike' on your pet. As soon as she got to tamable hp, i ressed pet, abandoned it and laid a path of traps while i tamed.

This, was, by far, the funnest tame I've ever had the pleasure in completing.

I was incredibly excited, since it was early in the morning, and I was just getting to the point where I could do Fireland dailies. After completing mine for the day, I ran over, just to see if she was up. NPCscan fired off, and I checked the minimap as to where she was hiding. I dismissed Terrorpene, and tamed a spider that was already around to sacrifice. I got in position, spread out the ice, snake and explosive trap and sent in my spider.

It took me four tries and one death to get this beauty. Timing. Is. Crucial. Always keep concussive shot up. Unless the spider's web is up. Try and save your ice trap for when she's about to kill your spider with Deth Strike. Pop the trap as she's casting, hit concussive, and hit revive. Renew your other traps consistently, and don't worry about dps'ing her down. Just keep concussive up.

Note: you can get close to Deth'tilac and her not kill you. You have got to disentangle while she's casting Deth Strike or you will die though. Just watch which way you're disengaging and make sure not to go off the edge. Where she spawned for me, I didn't have to clear any npc's. I just had to keep moving backwards and then turn around and disengage away. Make sure to time this so that your spider is alive (just alive preferably) and if you have aggro, you'll waste a Deth strike. I am not certain if this will take 10% of her health or not though. I was too busy trying not to die to pay attention to a potential health drop.

All in all, it took kiting her down the ledge three times (two turn arounds). Fun, and interactive. And again, best and funnest catch out of all the rares I've ever gotten. Thanks Blizz for a fun line of rares to get!

Just tamed her by working in tandem with an Alliance hunter (I'm Horde) pulling her back and forth thru triple trap clusters while alternating pet sacrifices. Used 1 of the yellow spiders as a trow away. Worked like a charm even in quest blue & greens as a fresh 85.

Just did it today it was REAL easy, I pretty much kited him to the NPC druids on the other side of the tower and they rooted and attacked him giving me more than enough time to rez my pet and sacrificing him. My spec is BM and my haste rating is at 1007. This method is also great for a laugh as Deth'tilac tries to kill the npc's as they spam root him.

I wanted to perform the whole solo-tame bit very badly (as it looks so fun to do :D), but Deth popped up at about 4 am last night, after I spent forever running into rare after rare after rare. I could not logout for bed as much I wanted to with the one pet I wanted up and active, and nobody around to interfere.

Unfortunately, I was so tired and out of it that I could not focus the way one needs to in order to solo-tame. A guildy hopped on his druid and came over to kindly spam his roots for me.

It was simple from there. I don't know what went wrong, but sometimes my pet would run back to me before dying whenever I sent it in to sacrifice (as if it was scared lol). But even with these hiccups, it was cake, and the entire process took no more than 5-6 minutes. We had to maneuver Deth around her zone some because for some reason my pet continued to rez beneath Deth and insta-die without ever being hit with Deth Strike.

I was beyond grateful to my guildy for the help, but I was plum out exhausted. In 2 days I had tamed every Cata rare minus Skarr, who is now next up for my barn >:3

There are some good youtube videos to watch on this tame. Perhaps when there are no hunters to tame her and she spawns again I will attempt a re-tame for the fun and experience...:) I feel like I missed out on some serious fun all because of exhaustion.

After several failed attempts with the pet sacrificing and traps, I found a much easier way to tame him. Simply kite him to Malfurions Breach, the druids will attack him and it's a simple matter of keeping CS on him until he kills enough druids and it's a simple tame.

First, clear adds around the area you will kite him around. Snakes never worked the sacrifice for me so I just concentrated on sending my pet on him every time Ice Trap was on cd (I recommend using a spider to web). Always use concussive shot every time you can to kite him around. When your ice trap is thrown start reviving your pet and repeat. When you are able to tame, revive your pet and abandon. Continue to kite Deth until you're at a good distance to tame (He will instantly kill you if you're too close).

It took me almost 1 1/2 hours to get him because of annoying adds respawning and Deth bugging out. It can be extremely frustrating but don't give up.

Brought it to the NPCs at the front, it was at 23% casting Deth Strike and another hunter took my tame. Its people like them that make camping rares so disheartening sometimes. He told me he 'didn't know it was tameable' and was 'just fcking around'... /sigh.

At any rate my NPC Scan was going berserk! Check this out... 7:00pm Solix was found, 7:01pm Deth'tilac was found (which was STOLEN from me, took about 5 minutes from the time it spawned until the end when... it was stolen.) I decided to go wait for Skarr and Kirix is up there (this is 7:21pm), Solix was said to still be up at 8:18 by General Chat. 8:36pm watched Orc Hunter get one shot by Megatoxin from Kirix. 8:50pm another failed Kirix tame attempt by a different hunter. 9:09pm the hunter successfully tamed Kirix.

Tamed mine yesterday!
It works perfect with the pet as a sacrifice and I would recommend a spider as sacrifice, because you can control the beast better, so you have the ice trap and the web from the spider and you can also use concussive shot to slow down Deth'tilac. So I would recommend to pull the mob from one site to the other site (notice that you can't pull it from his platform) and at the end you web it down with the spider. Then you have enough time to run to the other side and revive your pet. Do this about eight times and it will be your new beautiful pet.
But Deth'tilac has also one problem or maybe I just had bad luck:
He reseted more then once when I got him down to 20%. So be patient, it can take a lot of time.
Btw this pet gets very beautiful in bestial wrath - it's a shiny red color.

Did this with a standard mm pve spec, no slowing talents etc. along with a regular cat pet.
Trick to get Deth strikes constantly on your pet asap is to feign death once it attacks, then get a quick arcane shot off so Deth't doesn't reset.
Then just use the standard kiting between conc shot and ice traps.

If you have other hunters trying to tame this and you tagged it first then follow this tip: DO NOT FEIGN DEATH

I tag this mob first and FD to drop aggro so it would get to my pet while another hunter was shooting it. I did the revive pet thing and got him done but was not able to Distracting Shot the aggro back to me. The other hunter got the tame and I was pissed.

So I came across Deth'tilac while camping for Karkin, I was frustated because Skarr showed up so I decided to go on a wonder and suddenly I see a red blob on my mini-map to represent beats, and Deth'tilac were there.

After having a mini heart attack, I immediatley went over there as she was the last spider I need to tame from the Molten Front. I had already read up on tacticts, and away I went.

After many wipes and evades, I managed to get him. The hard thing about taming her is forgetting to keep serpant sting on while ressing your pet. I made sure I did a cobra shot just before ressing so ressing so I was sure she wouldn't reset (as I learned about 3 times)

The only trap I used was frost trap to slow her down, while spamming concussive shot and serpent sting. I did no major damage, which is why is took me a while, but I wanted to be safe!

I kited her around a lot, making sure she never not too close and when I needed to turn around I did a reverse Disengage so her Deth Strike didn't effeft me (Twice my disengage went wrong and her Deth Striked Killed me.)

I felt very sorry for my pet Solix dying repeatedtly, and pancied at the end when I realised I had to ress her to dismiss her so I could tame Deth. So with a quick trap and serpent sting, ressed my pet, another rinse and repeat and tamed her. She was about 15% health because I wanted to make sure she didn't reset while I was taming her, which would really annoy me.

Pet looks awesome, she's quite hard but after a few trys you get the hang of it, the trick is to keep a safe distance and always make sure serpent sting is on while you're ressing your pet and make sure it will still be on when your pet is ressed.

I've actually looked for her a few times and she's not been there, her spawn rate is quite high.
This taming took place around 23:30 game time Kul-Tiras today.

so i was running around the molten front doing quests, when i noticed this purple/clear leg poking out from behind a wall. i went to investigate and i see the silver rare icon. i immediately check wowhead and discover he is a rare challenge. so i kite him to the druids and get him around 25%. i get ready to fire distracting shot and right as i go to click DS, he goes from 17% health to 0% in about 2 seconds. turns out some ^&*!@#bag mage was attacking him from the other side where i couldnt see him. needless to say i was pissed so i started to scream at him, even tho he couldnt understand me....it made me feel a little better.

Walked into Molten Front Today
Between Hours of 11:00am Server Time To About 12PM Server Time, I found all 3 Spiders and Skarr.
