I just wanted to confirm after the patch they did drop a Gundrak Hatchling for me, after about 300 kills. It is of white quality, so don't have to worry about a roll box popping up while in group. No idea on how common they are with that small pool of killing. Thought of farming a second one to sell but decided I'd used my luck up for today. ~ K

Drop rate on the Gun'drak Hatchling is 1 out of 1,000.

The raptors themselves are easy for any 80 to kill, however they are spread out over a large area making it impossible to round up 4 or 5 at a time. Best you will be able to do is likely 2 at a time. The area is a decent location for herbs so herbalists should also be able to basically farm two birds with one stone.

been farming for this pet for about 3 or 4 hours now, killed over 400 of the raptors..

so far i've gotten the following:
over 100g in vendor trash
800 borean leather
4 arctic fur
1 blue drop
7 green drops
found 1 rare mob

but no pet... it's been pretty quiet on my server so i'm going to keep farming until i get it before everyone else catches on to where to get them.

Got this after killing about 900 of them to finish off my collection. This one and the Razzashi hatchling from ZG took the longest to get. Good luck!

These raptors can occasionally be caught performing a leaping attack on unsuspecting nearby critters such as arctic hares. It is rather comical to witness, although you can't help but feel a pang of guilt when you hear the death cry of an innocent little bunny.

Spent 2 days farming the gundrak raptors outside of gundrak instance, for the hatchling pet. superfast respawn rate just about zero downtime. dropped off kill # 907.

Interesting bug with these guys. If you can get them to aggro you while on a flying mount, they will sometimes leap towards you and land in mid-air. They'll stay in the air until they try to move at which point they'll actually fall (it's very Road Runner-ish :)

These mobs are probably the best in the game for straight-up Borean Leather farming. Drop 1-3 per kill, more often than not dropping 3 than 1/2. Very easy to farm, only complaint is a little spread out but nothing a flying mount cant fix.

I've been working at killing these for the a while now to get the companion pet and have had no luck. But one thing I've been having trouble with is that every now and then, I'll kill one and when I go to loot it, I get the message "You are not close enough to loot that target". What? I'm standing right on top of it! I've also tried to move around the target and step back a bit in case the game is locating the raptor further away than it is.

My inner paranoia is convinced that the baby raptor drop is on those particular raptors and it's driving me crazy! Anyone else having this problem or have solved it?

As posted above what happens is the raptor jumps towards you but you kill it just before or just as it lands, it's almost as if the graphics are ahead of the gameplay. The graphics show the loot just by you but the reality is it's 5 yards away and not close enough to loot. Logging in and back out resets but rather than do that the best thing is to only finish killing them when they are close to you, as they only jump as you lure them.

If you are trying to farm this baddie, don't do it for hours straight, you'd just be wasting alot of time.

I parked my alt there and kill about 2-5 sets a day, and I got it on the 3rd day.

I'm aware that this is just pure RNG, but even then not stressing yourself too much is not a bad thing. I've done that on Azure Whelpling and it took me about 3 weeks of clearing few sets of Ice avatar before I get it.(Globe of Water is nice profit)

Persistent clearing isn't the best way unless you have alot of free time to spare and stuffs to make the grind less painful.

Well some help for you wanting the little cute pet Gundrak Hatchlingthat drops fromGundrak Raptor:)

Firstly take a look at what how and where: -

1) Drop chance off the Gundrak Raptor is 1 in 1000 so be ready to kill alot of these; its only a fast grind if your very lucky^^.
2) The Location is around the North and South Entrances to Gundrak in Zul'Drak, Northrend.
3) You dont have to specifically farm this pet from the Gundrak Raptor. If you have a Tank or Healer character then you can get if from Satchel of Exotic Mysteries; just remember not to open it unless its on the character you want the pet on :)

So, after a little bit of thought I came up with this strategy on how to farm it with the maximum return for time invested: -

I decided to farm it on my Elemental Shaman as I could park it in Zul'Drak and leave it there untill it dropped for me along with the fact that my shaman has Skinning. Equipped with some Tracker Snacks so i can find them faster and easier; so let me explain more!

1) When you logged in, If the zone was busy with farmers, you can log out and try later - no travel time so when you log in you start killing.
2) Every Gundrak Raptor I kill you can Skinning and they drop 1-3 x Borean Leather; a stack on Auchindoun sells for 50-70 gold. On killing 100 Gundrak Raptor I had just over 250 Borean Leather; about 12 stacks which is 500 - 700 gold.
3) Loot everything as the Sharpened Raptor Talon, which drops from every mob sells in a stack of 20 for almost 4 gold.
4) Plenty of green items also drop which disenchant mainly into Infinite Dust which sells for a premium I can tell you.
5) If you run out of Gundrak Raptor then kill the Zul'Drak Bat as they also drop junk and Borean Leather.

Now, whether Gundrak Hatchling drops for me or not I plan to make plenty of gold in trying to get it and after 1,000 kills if it still hasn't dropped I'll just sell all the leather i have farmed and buy it off someone on the AH or in Trade. If Gundrak Hatchling does drop for me then i get a pet and a nice profit for my time invested also; either way its a Win!

Good Luck farming and don't forget to maximise your farming time!

*** Edit with results - 1 hour and 52 mins and the Gundrak Hatchling Dropped for me after 247 kills with 587 x Borean Leather & 3 x Arctic Fur & 7 greens along with 55gold of junk items - Happy me - I might just keep farming another one as it seems to be a very profitable area!

Been farming this for ages. 2300 kills so far. i just envy all of you that got it under 1k kills. but i wont stop now, even tho it has been very demoralizing with 2 ppl that showed up while i was farming got it after a short while.
i'll never give uuup! (or will i? :o )

I leveled my skinning to 385 on my level 85 shaman so I could skin these while farming for the pet (They are level 77, so *5 would = 385 skinning level). When I went to Zul'Drak to skin my first one, the game told me I had to have skinning at 395. So I went to Grizzly Hills to skill up to 395. Upon returning to Zul'Drak and killing another one of these level 77 beasts, the game told me I needed to have a skill of 405!

I've submitted a bug to Blizzard. Will let you know if I hear anything back.

The level 76 beasts have been skinnable during this time.

Any of these guys tamed prior to 5.0 will have a colour-changing trait. They'll randomly choose one of their colours each time they're summoned. They should continue do this, even after 5.0.

Any new ones tamed since 5.0 will only appear in the colour you tamed. The colour-changing bug has been fixed once and for all in MoP, meaning that nothing newly-tamed will show the bug (i.e. the data for the colour you tamed is saved with your pet).

While farming for the hatchling, I also came across Terror Spinner, which can trigger Northern Exposure and counts toward Frostbitten. Nice little perk among the monotony. =)
