Actually, do to the ilvl of the item it would not surprise me that this would be sold from the Fireland daily quest vender. Fireland raid drops are considered 378 for normal and 392 for heroic. With this being considered a 365, that would put it more in line with Heroic Dungeon ilvl rating (352 ->365)

Wait a minute... The meteor does exactly the same damage as its little brother, Shard of the Fallen Star. So I'd say this is a copy/paste thing with actual lvl 85 numbers coming later.

The proc also sends down a meteor like the Infernal summon animation looks to be a 2min ICD on it but not entirely sure yet.

As a rogue I cant see this trinket being that good for assassination or combat specs, which are the most common for raiding, due to the fact that crit is not ideal.
As subtlety spec, the stats look excellent, however subtlety is mainly a pvp spec so im wondering weather its worth getting this over, say, the vicious gladiator trinket (i couldnt find the i371 version of the trinket, so add on around 100 agility on the use proc) because of the fact that this has no resilience and the use proc isn't as good, as agility is a much, much superior stat.
I don't think this trinket is much better than the alchemy trinket either, as the alchemy trinket can have 11 more agility due to the socket and if you average out the use proc this trinket doesnt have much more crit rating than the alchemy trinket, PLUS, you can reforge the alchemy trinket to some differant stat, whereas you can't reforge out the crit on this trinket as it is a use proc. The alchemy trinket also has a nice bonus for healing potions which could possibly come in handy.
As a rogue i would only reccomend getting this if you have other trinkets that are much worse (any blue quality or green quality trinket), as the stats are not ideal

I wonder if players actually realize the true purpose of items like this.

The item doesn't need to be BiS, nor even close to that, but just competitive enough to accomplish its goal.
And the goal is rather simple: evening out the RNG so players can progress at a reasonable pace. Ok, it does double as "welfare gear", but I'm not concerned at all about that (why should I? everybody can get this, allright, yet I still benefit from being raid-geared by getting my dailies done slightly quicker).

To put a couple of real examples:
First one, relevant to this very item: I have managed to lose rolls on Unheeded Warning (against our enh shammy) and Essence of the Cyclone (against another rogue) on the same BoT run, and haven't seen those items drop again. For the time being, I'm stuck with a blue trinket on one of my slots, but I know that if I don't get either of those before I unlock the vendor for this, then I'll still get a decent trinket without a drop chance for Murphy's Law to mess with.

Second example: this is an old one, and related to other items and slots, but extreme enough to show off that "welfare" gear has a purpose beyond pleasing non-raiding subscribers with some purpleness. During TBC I was stuck with a lvl67 blue BoE chestpiece for a long while. By stuck I mean that no matter how much stuff I downed, no chests dropped anywhere. Over 20 kills on Nightbane (that's ~5 months killing him each and every week) without seeing a single Chestguard of the Conniver drop. And a similar issue with other potential sources. One day I got the T4 shoulder from Mauglar, the gloves from Curator, some nice pants from Netherspite, and then yielded my raidspot to another guildie (3 upgrades are quite enough for an evening, aren't they?) for the remaining bosses. Dare to guess what did Nightbane drop? Needless to say, as soon as the Quel Danas vendor was unlocked, I tossed in a hundred badges on my Tunic of the Dark Hour. Nightbane kills alone paid for roughly half of it! And, as the final confirmation that Murphy was indeed haunting me, next time I downed Nightbane he dropped the stupid chest piece.

The whole point here is: bad luck streaks do happen. For small-medium guilds, someone having too much bad luck with drops can easily hinder the whole guild's progress, regardless of effort and skill. That would be rather unfair, and wellfare gear like this helps softening the impact of those streaks.

In order to fulfill this goal without trivializing drops, these items need to be around average quality. If they are too bad, players will still need the drops and hence rely entirely on luck. If they are too good, players will always want the "welfare" item, and won't bother farming bosses for drops.

So, all in all, this is a great item for what it's meant to: helping players to progress when they get too unlucky with drops. Compared with alternatives, when they actually drop, it will barely be on par with them on the best cases. It may not be BiS on the strictest sense, but it's still the best option when the alternatives just don't drop.

As MM, this trinket is roughly a 50 dps increase over Essence. Fluid Death likely isn't replaceable until you get one of the trinkets from the last two bosses in Firelands. As always, YMMV.

Just thought I'd mention that if you're a BM hunter, this trinket will allow you to kill anything for 10 seconds. Beastial Wrath + this trink + arcane shot spam = 15-20k crits non-stop for beastial wrath's duration.

Can anyone confirm the hit-cap of the equip-proc? I was testing at the target dummies and i noticed that out of 2 procs, 1 hit and 1 was a clean miss. Might be a repeat of the early Darkmoon: Hurricane trink where the trink is itemized for melee-dps(Hit cap=8%) but the proc uses the spell hit cap (17%).

To clarify for those who are confused on what this trinket does.
The proc hits fairly often for me. I didn't time it yet, but I'd estimate on my feral cat druid, once every 30 seconds or so.
Also the meteor's do indeed cause damage. But it appears only 200-400, and it appears to only affect your current target.

Lol, had 3 of these meteors in a bossfight, 1300 total dam/400 dam each. Net result was 0.0% of total DPS, hehe.

Odd they added this to the trinket, when it does less dam then a fart :)

- proc'ed thrice in a 5min raider's dummy.
- No miss so far on all tests (basic hit cap of 8%)

I find the meteor more of an aesthetic feel than a DPS boost (on hunter)

I'm not immediately enthousiastic. I've been looking at this, to replace either Fluid Death or Quicksilver Alchemist Stone.

Fluid Death seems significantly better, so my attention went to Quicksilver Alchemist Stone. But that one will give 11 agility more. Now teh proc will give nore crit, but only marginally more. When stacking it may be better, but when you forget or delay your 'use' a bit you actually end up with a lower average.

Not a bad trinket for upgrades if you were unlucky in drops or not a raider, but as an alchemist I think I stick with my homemade stone.

Yes the alchemist trinket(Quicksilver) would probably be a better trinket due to it being a crafted item.

If anyone plays Combat as a Rogue and is wondering about this trinket, Shadowcraft shows it as slightly better than Tia's Grace and considerably better than Unsolvable Riddle. I was incredibly glad to be rid of UR, because that trinket is bad and I looked bad using it. Now if only Art Template Leather Boot - RaidRogue_I - Blue would drop for me. I will probably replace Ricket's with Ancient Petrified Seed anyway, I need about 3000 more rep. That trinket is not ideal, but the low CD will make for some nice uptime.

I always laugh when it procs and a gigantic meteor crashes into my target from outer space, and it does 300 damage. When my Auto Shots do over 6k.

As a Rogue, I currently have Unheeded and Fluid Death and I don't see any major benefit to upgrading to this trinket. It all depends on if the extra 20 agility from replacing Unheeded Warning would mean more dps than the extra weapon damage it grants. I'm not even thinking about the meteor proc because if it's anything like the Meteor Shard dagger from Shadowfang then it's most likely a loss, even with that proc included.

I ran several trinkets through the simulator that I use regularly. (I have not tried them in FemaleDwarf, yet)

HUNTERS:

Fluid Death > Essence of the Cyclone (Heroic) > Essence of the Cyclone > Quicksilver Alchemist Stone+40 AGI > Ricket's Magnetic Fireball

I was a little suprised by this, given that the base AGI is higher than some, figured Rickets would rank at least a little higher.
*Marksman may be able swap the position of the Quicksilver and the Cyclone(359), especially if reforged for hit

As always, your mileage may vary - I encourage any posts with additional empirical data to confirm or refute this post - the more data the better.

(theory/sim crafter note: sims were run with simcraft 420_3 @100k iterations for each trinket)

Bought this purely for cosmetics on my hunter when running my random heroics, slight dps loss is offset by watching meteor's crash into things.

Hunter POV... For those wondering about the damage the "small celestial object" does, I decided to test it.

In a 5 minute fight on Raider's Training Dummy it procced 3 times doing an average of 391 damage, for a total of 1173. It did not crit.

For a comparison, the T12 2pc bonus Flaming Arrow procced 10 times, did total damage of 54,583, and crit 1 time.

So, while it does do damage, it is extremely insignificant. My pet can sneeze on the mob and do more damage.

One thing I did notice however, is that there is some sort of internal cooldown for "on use" things. If I use this trinket first, my Engi gloves go on a 20 second cooldown. If I use the gloves first, this trinket goes on a 10 second cooldown. It puts a bit of a damper on my blow-all-cooldowns macro.

this is a vendor trinket and on par with other versions
these are not to replace all lower level trinkets they are easy to get trinkets similar to how zg/za epics were 353/359 365/378
not all 353 were better than 349s a lot were not all

I've got an Assassination Rogue, iLvl at 370 at the time of this post. I decided to try replacing Essence of the Cyclone with Ricket's Magnetic Fireball.

Looking at the difference in my character sheet, just swapping the two trinkets, here's what I found changed when I used Ricket's Magnetic Fireball:

Agility: 5115 -----> 5135 (+20 improvement)
Damage: 2656-3361 -----> 2663-3368 (+7-8 improvement)
DPS: 1576.7 / 788.4 -----> 1580.3 / 790.2 (+3.6 / 1.8 improvement)
Crit Chance: 25.18% -----> 25.24% (.06% improvement)

There were no changes to any other stats.

I did a non-scientific test (I stood behind a raiding boss dummy and wailed on it until I hit it for about 3,750,000 HP ... with some bleed over for DoT abilities) of the two. There was no reforging or anything like that between the tests, just replaced the trinkets; I had no food or other buffs. I only used standard Melee abilities (Mutilate, Envenom, and Rupture) in my normal rotation; I didn't use Vendetta or Cold Blood, but when I had Ricket's Magnetic Fireball, I hit it every time the cooldown was available, including a few seconds in to the test (so I was able to hit it twice during the course of the test).

With Essence of the Cyclone equipped, I did 12,087.7 DPS. The top three damage abilities were Instant Poison for 850,123, Melee attacks for 677,258, and Deadly Poison (DoT) for 581,541.

With Ricket's Magnetic Fireball, I did 12,845.4 DPS. Again, the top three damage abilities were Instant Poison for 891,753, Melee attacks for 698,638, and Deadly Poison (DoT) for 603,083.

The magnetic fireball hit 3 times during the test for an average of 351 damage, so its not going to add a measurable DPS improvement in any fights (boss or otherwise).

The "Meteor" this trinket calls down can apparently me reflected as a magical effect.
I was attacking a Soulguard Watchmen in The Forge of Souls, the Meteor came down just as he had his Shroud of Runes active, and the Meteor came down on ME instead.
