The 100 spell power makes this great for any caster, However.

Do not overestimate the use of the mana shield, it has a 5 Minute CD

that means every 5 minutes you gain 1200 mana, in TBC that would have been somewhat helpful for all healing classes and dps such as affliction locks (who use little mana), not saying it would have been useless to mages, its just 3-4 fireballs as opposed to 8ish DoTs.

in Wotlk all casters mana pools will be much larger, base mana (and with the recent nerfing to using lower rank spells) will increase causeing all spells to cost more mana.

This trinket's Mana pumping ability should NOT be the main selling point of this item.

Possible obvious uses as of now would be for people farming lower level instances when 400 dmg could make some sort of a difference.

So summing it up, its easier to have mana potions and high spirit than this, because when a 5 min cd gives you 1 pyro and a fireball, its just a waste of a spot.

We will have to see other + spell power trinkets post WotLk in order to compare this correctly.

I think this would be a useful trinket for paladin tanks actually. We do use AP to spellpower as threat but spellpower is still a great threat modifier, and with the small mana pool that 1200 actually returns quite a bit of mana, and while the shield is a mediocre amount sometimes even a little more survivability is the difference between a win and a wipe

well as a disc priest. 1200 is still a hell of a lot considering our talents are so dirt cheap now. my penance will cost below 400 mana. 1200 is at least 3 more of those. i like this trink a lot. but i want to see the other before i try to get this. as im sure the price will be massive

Pretty disappointed no one has brought up this trinket as a last-stand for mana almost. This trinket is more than likely outdone by many level 80 caster trinkets. Where I personally believe this trinket would shine is on mob packs or bosses where healing spam is essential...
The only situation I can come up with for bosses is Patchwerk (level 60, pre-TBC). That fight was a pain in the butt, popping mana potions all the live-long-time. Having an extra little mana would have made that fight a whole lot less stressful.

Again, the trinket is probably not too great... but I would say its pretty sick for a healer if they know when to equip it. Plus, 5 minutes is really not that long. It would be up, in a raid, for nearly every trash pull.

If you can Right-Click the buff off to activate the 1200 mana gain, then after some math:
Math:
1200 mana per 5 minutes
1200 mana per 300 seconds
4 mana per 1 second
20 mana per 5 seconds

This trinket essentially becomes:

+100 Spell Power
+20 Mp5

That is, of course, if you use it every time it's up. You'd be guaranteed to use it once per boss fight, possibly twice. Excellent trinket.

I assume this is the healer trinket. 20mp5 or even 33mp5 is a lot less in WotLK than it was in TBC. Even with one pot per fight 1200 mana is a very low amount especially on a 5 min CD. I'm willing to take some bets that the amount of mana will be buffed or the CD reduced. 100 spellpower is nice, but I can't see this card holding out for long when comparing this trinket to what I've seen of green and blue trinkets from quests and instances (normal) this far.

accounts for melee dps and healing (I hope), so I guess we have a yet to be discovered tanking card and a caster dps card.

edit: It seems you can chose between agi, str, int or spirit on the Greatness Card. The last two decks are Chaos (Value: 744 to 956) and Undeath. Undeath being the tanking deck I assume and the benefit of Chaos being TBA after the research has been done on procrate and possible internal cooldown.

This might be amazing for warlocks if life tap damages the shield before tapping your life. You can get 1-2 life taps in, the equivalent mana, and then the 1200 mana from the shield break. Very nice trinket, who wouldn't want 100 SP.

personally there is only 1 reason to get this - 100 spell power!
although i havent seen all the epic level trinkets for wotlk yet i can bet ya that this is a thousand times better than anything i will ever have the fortune to drop for me! ok so the shield buff isnt amazing an has a 5min CD and restores a little mana - but any chara that relys on spell power will ignore that and focus on the stats and nothing else. gnna get massivly overpriced for the cards on all AH (i kno on mine its currently about 300g per card) but if u have the gold and want a quite upgrade that will last - this is the trinket for u!

If you're going for straight up spellpower, https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40258 or https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40432 are better options, and considering the relative simplicity of WotLK raids thus far, probably easier to obtain.

I would expect this trinket to be worth much less than the Nobles deck, which is particularly awesome for almost any class.

Does using this trinket trigger GCD? I'm trying to figure out if this trinket will be useful for Arcane Mages .

One could make a macro to pop this trinket & mana shield to effectively have a single mana shield that will pay for itself every five minutes.

943.76 total mana cost, to absorb 715 damage, on a naked toon.

Add 400 more damage from the trinket; subtract 1200 mana from the cost. That would be a bubble that absorbs 1115 damage and refunds 256.24 mana, on a 5 min CD, unless I'm missing something.

I'm sure that seems underwhelming compared to Ice Barrier, but let's say you picked up Incanter's Absorption and your 2's partner is a Disc Priest. /shrug, could be useful?

For pve Kiss of the Spider has basically the same +spell power and a much better proc. As its bugged / maybe intended atm, any caster but mages can also get the Egg from badges, which is the same as the kiss as far as healing is concerned. Not an awful trinket but for it's current price, a bit underwhelming compared to the nobles deck.

if you're a warlock using the following Life Tap macro:

I haven't tried it yet but shouldnt the fact that life tap takes health away from you trigger the 1200 mana instantly? Basically in that case this macro would give you the mana from your life tap + 1200 mana bonus.

If you're a Blood Elf warlock you can change the Life Tap macro to this:

/use Darkmoon Card: Illusion
/cast Arcane Torrent
/cast Life Tap(Rank 8)
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Then this would give you instantly the mana from life tap + 1200 mana from the trinket + around 800 mana from arcane torrent. :)

my resto druid friend loves this thing for pvp, the spell power can help compensate for the sp you lose switching to pvp gear.

this is a very good PvP trinket for dispel protection. However with the dispel mechanics changing this becomes more useful as the mechanic is designed to protect critical buffs such as PW:S and Renew. Putting this at the front line for a dispel. making this trinket pro-active

This card with the "Use" ability can be defined as:

Equip: Increase spell power by 100.
Equip: Restores 20 mana per 5 sec. (1200 divided by 300 x 5)

The 400 damage absorbed is really irrelevant, maybe useful for PVP purposes, but to counter 1 dispel every 5 minute with a 4 second duration is really questionable.

A medicore caster trinket, probably suits best for Restoration Shamans having problems with mp5 during early 80.

This trinket is inferior compared to https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37835 (now changed to BOE).

A very decent caster/healer trinket for a moderate price (500-600 gold on my server).

Superior to The Egg of Mortal Essence in most situations; where the Egg's buff is situational at best (and useless most of the time), the 1.200 mana the Illusion card restores can be timed according to the caster's needs. 5 minutes cooldown is pretty high, though, but then again - mana is mana.

If you've just started equipping a healer, this card will be a nice improvement and will save you 40 emblems (or give you a decent addition to the Egg in case you've already bought it).

A nifty macro for this trinket could be:

If you use this macro, it will activate the macro on the first click, and it will de-activate the shield with the second click. Can be very useful if you don't have time for clicking the buff during a boss fight.

This trinket is pretty nice for what its worth, on my server 300g :P and i saw people did a comment regarding the Egg of mortal essence, that mages and warlocks uses it and that is BIG LOL as they see it. Then they need to read again, as it is atm, that healing trinket proccs on mages arance spells, i know it beacuse i use it myself :)

Thow Hand of Sac on your tank.
Hit trinket.
And bam, free mana.
Now with hand of sanc. Be smart on when you use it. Don't be retarded and use it on Patchwerk. Use it on trash or on a boss whom hits with a spell that you know 30% isn't to hard. Then hit the bubble and wait it out.

i notice alot of comparisons to the greatness card, why? theyre diff cards lets focus on the card itself, as an 80 holy pally i throw something like 80% crits with flash heal doing (ok may not be great but) 6k heal and i dont know about u guys but personally a +100 spp trink is nice as i had a relatively hard time finding trinkets
my flash heals cost around 150 mana give or take i just made a macro tied to flash heal to pop the trink whenever its off cd im not expecting it to actually stop dmg but a nice little 1200 'pot' every now and then without having to do anything makes a nice bonus,

dont compare it to greatness obviously greatness is better, and u shouldnt be using illusion if ur a tank period. great little card cheap and effective ^-^

I have a question for those of you who have done the General Vezax encounter in Ulduar:

Does the mana refund on this card's use work in the Vezax encounter? I was thinking or purchasing this card just for that specific fight due to the fact that I could pop the use, put the shield up, and then click it off to instantly gain 1200 mana. The flat 100 spellpower is also nice for this encounter since my normal regen trinkets are useless due to the aura he applies which prevents mana regeneration.

Can anyone confirm whether the 1200 mana refund from this card works during the General Vezax encounter, either by manually clicking the buff off or by letting a vapor pool on the floor damage it off?

This a level 80 trinket.

As a level 80 priest, I find this as almost worthless. I certainly would not pay the 750g that was on the Daath Remar server today.

here is why.

First, I do the daily heroics (name: Ahuvah), but I've been told that I still am not geared enough for Naxx. About 2100 SP, 17k of mana. (Just so you know that I am not an Epic wearer, and understand that looking for the next good purple is important!)

So an increase of 1200 mana is pretty much what a Blood Elf talent "Arcane Torrent" will provide, which is fine for a couple of small spells, but if you are down to that, you're in big trouble. Better to take a potion, click on a free-mana spell, do an arcane torrent, send out the shadowfiend, or something else. (I usually an running with an Elixer of Pure Mojo active in a heroic anyhow to pump my MP5 well beyond past 500).

Second, while +100 sp is nice, and makes it sort of tempting, there are +98 sp trinkets that I can get by turning in 40 emblems of heroism from the heroics. (about a week of casual intance runs)

But 750g for this? Not a chance!

Ok well I am saving up to get cards for this but this actually seems very good. The card says "by any means" which means you can just right click it and get mana instantly. That is like being able to use 2 mana potions per battle. This could be very nice in long battles or to healers when they go OOM. Once you add the spell damage, this is one nice trinket. Im not saying you should use this in raids like Ulduar but for normal heroics and maybe 10 and 25 man naxx this is in the picture.

Press once for the buff, once more to remove. Shows the CD & Tooltip of the trinket aswell.

On a side note: Any1 of you wondering why it's named illusion?
-It causes a shield-looking barrier around you. Usually those absorb damage, therefore people want to break it quickly. But HEY! It's an illusion! We tricked them. Now we get the mana.

This also means this goes perfectly on a paladin(Due to sacred shield effect) and hell, in a BG i saw an ally move away from a pally when he used that hp. He thought he bubbled(Probably happens 1/100000 times) but was funny as hell.

From the perspective of my Druid(Only doing arena), this trinket is a godsend, even above 2k rating. Those mana can save the day. The trinket alone, allowes me to do Regrowth > Reju/Swiftmend.

-I can sure approve this trinket if you're a druid. Dunno about other classic tho.

Epic Trinkets are created by Blizzard with purpose. They are designed so that ALL benefits of said trinket are utilized. If a class/group role does not utilized all aspects of a trinket, although maybe still useful, the trinket was not designed with that person in mind.

With this in mind, lets examine Darkmoon Card: Illusion. The benifits of this trinket are:

+ 85 Int
1500 Damage Absorption Shield, last 6 sec
1500 Mana Restored, once Shield ends

+ 85 Int - Increase in overall mana pool (all non-mana using classes excluded: Hunters, Warriors)

1500 Dmg Shield, lasting 6 seconds. To fully utilize this aspect of the trinket one needs to take a minimum of 1500 dmg within 6 secs.

1500 Mana Regain, which to be fully utilized requires, the person to have at least 1500 points of mana to be regained.

Who Could Utilize ALL Aspects of this trinket when questing alone and when in group?

Playing Solo:

It could be argued that all mana using classes could utilize this item to it's full potential, if used at the correct times, so narrowing the field as to the best suited 1-2 classes needs to be determined while playing in groups.

However, if you never play in groups and use mana, you could sufficiently argue you have as much right to this item as anyone else.

While playing in a Group:

Ok, so if you have, like I, have read many of the posts regarding this item, the 1500 mana regain and previous + Spell-power increase, and less so + int aspect of this trinket.

Not much is mentioned about the 1500 Dmg Absorption Shield, apart from the ability to dispel it immediately to gain the 1500 mana, followed by arguments about how many spells that would mean.

If you effectively remove one of the benefits of this trinket, then you've essentially removed the "Epic" element of this trinket. An epic item with + 85 int and 1500 mana regain every 5 mins, does not sound very Epic to me.

At first glance this item is seemingly a cloth wearing mana monster, DPS'ing their foes into oblivion OR taking on the difficult task of keeping everyone alive.

But herein lies the problem. No cloth wearing party member should ever be getting hit running 80+ instances, ever. If by some chance they were, your parties chances of survival are very low and I doubt their 1500 Dmg Shield, which was probably popped a while back and is still on cool-down is going to do much.

Even the plate wearing DPS Pallys, or the mail wearing Shamans should not be getting hit by any mobs, even if they could last longer, a tank losing aggro, does not bode well for the future of that instance run.

So shockingly enough, who does that leave us with, yes crazy as it sounds, the Tank. If you've read this much you might as well read on, just to at least find out what Troll Mojo Juice I drink while talking with the Voodoo Man.

Q. Who Tanks?
A. Warriors, Protection Paladins, Death Knights, and Druids in Bear Form.

Q. Who uses mana?
A. Protection Paladins, Druids (not in Bear Form, switching out of Bear Form to use mana for any reason in an instance, is the kiss of death)

So we are left with Prot Pallys? Really! I hear you ask, but here is the rationale and why it's not as insane as it sounds.

Prot Pallys have a small mana pool, but we do have many talents that make it relatively easy to maintain it sufficiently through a long fight.

Everyone would agree that the stats that all Prot Pallys should be focusing on should be (in no particular order): Sta, Str, Dodge, Block, Expertise, Crit, and Mastery.

However, Int should not be completely ignored, and somewhere there will be at least one +int stat. A +85 Int Stat Increase would be a very nice increase even if it was the only place a +Int was found.

However, when you couple this Int increase with the other elements of this trinket, it really shines.

Here is the logic.. In any +80 instance trash mob pulls are composed of multiple mobs. Prot Pallys often pull with Avenger's Shield, quickly slap on Judgement, Hammer of the Righteous, and a couple of other AoE's to ensure all mobs are stuck to you like glue. All this happens within a matter of seconds.

This is a lovely Prot Pally initial pull trinket. A few seconds into the start of the initial pull pop this trinket, 1500 dmg would be absorbed by the shield well before the 6 seconds ended. At which point we'd recieve the +1500 mana boost, which would also be used up in full with no wastage, considering the large chunk of mana just used.

After this initial pull and the use of this trinket we'd be in a much more comfortable spot, once we've entered into the rotation stage of the fight.

The beauty of using this trinket as I've outlined above is that we would always know exactly when to use the trinket and would almost be guaranteed to get all of it's benefits every time we used it.

Once again that's my two cents, I would love to hear comments, good or bad regarding this post.
