A good place to farm light leather (for Alliance) is in the North-east part of Loch Modan. The level 16-17 bears and boars drop 1-2 light leather with some medium leather, but no scraps. Also, the density is high and I was able to farm continually on my 36 druid.

I tried the level 14-15 croc island, where the spawn rate is really high, but they dropped too many scraps.

the boar in the field..... in an hour i farmed about 160 Light Leather as a lvl 11 rogue. Of course i did have to combine quite a few scraps but collectively about 160 LL per hour in that area for me.

Elwynn Forest, Maclure Farm.

Boars here have 0 respawn time. You have as much of a chance to get light leather as you can ruined scraps, but with the rate of boar respawns it hardly matters. You'll also get lots of meat for cooking here.

AoE helps for instant kills after pulling multiple boars. Throwing/wands also helps to pull them into a nice pile so you don't have to move as much. Time pulls inbetween looting/skinning for maximum efficiency.

Well the advice giving here on the comments for light leather was some what ok... But i really needed to get light leather Fast and Easy so this path i have gave me like 60 light leather within about half an hour...(on my 40 mage)

"Darkshore" Below "The Grove of Ancients " is the best place to Farm Light Leather why you ask?
Well they are "Giant ForestStriders" " Grizzled Thistle Bears" "Moon Stalkers"(Lvl17-19) And some Sickly Dear that will some times give you it. Mostly I got like 1-2 Light leather every time.... a couple of Medium and like 1 or 2 light Hide. This place is the Best from what i Experience today farming it because they are all in the same area and you dont have to walk a lot to find them to Skin them :-)

A great place to farm these is to kill the Great Goretusk's in Redridge Mountains, they have a very high drop rate and gives 1-2 light leather, they also drop Light Hide sometimes.

For anyone leveling skinning at a high level (Im looking at you, fellow Death Knights) For a Horde, there is a great way to do it. Just head West from Org, south to the road to crossroads, get there, and skin all the way. If U dont have 80 skinning by then, skin around crossroads till u do. Fly to camp Taurahe and head south. I got 2 150 skinning from 10 in a little less than an hour.

in my experience..

loch modan is the best place to farm teh leather, but not the northeast corner.
i've had much greater success on the middle island (the one with all the crocs)

in 45 min i picked up

4 stacks of leather
27 scraps (which will make more leather
4 medium leathers
4 light hides

plus a bag, 2 greens, and a bunch of grey/white stuff that can be sold on the way to the flightmaster
and the crocs respawn is super super fast (had trouble clearing the island)

If your level is high enough go to duskwood. Start at top left corner of the zone and follow the river to the east.

I went west -> east -> west, it took me 40 mins (as lvl33 tank specced druid using cat form) and I got:
8 stacks (=160) of light leather
22x medium leather
14x light hide
1x medium hide
36x lean wolf flank

Nice place just found to farm light leather for Alliance is in duskwood north part the whole "The Darkened Bank"
From Darkshire go north till hit river then go west killing the wolfs
after 30 mins this is what got:

Light Leather: 92
Medium Leather: 20
Light Hide: 5
Medium Hide: 4
Lean Wolf Flank: 25
1 leatherworking recipe
3 green items
5 Sharp Claws
and a few grays
all in all i think this could be a decent spot to farm light leather.

I'm just appalled. I took up skinning after a friend told me it's a gold sink, and I failed at Mining and BSing, with no interest in either. But with within 20 minutes, I got my skinning to 75, and made around 15G, off of stacks of Light Leathers. This profession is just amazing.

There is another place to farm light leather. On the extreme northern edge of the Redridge mountains, near the border to the Burning steppes, there are, id say 6 boars. Doesn't seem like much, but the respawn time (for me at least) was amazing. And they are not spread out at all. Try it.

If you are a warrior I have the ULTIMATE farming tip for you. :)

Like other people have said here, head over to Loch Modan to the island with the crocolisks.
This island's center on the world map is at aproximently 54,38.

When you arrive, mount of and start the running and shouting. :)

Just run around and spam the HELL out of your Demoralizing Shout. Instant aggro with no rage costs. With this you can run around and aggro the WHOLE island.
And the best part is, by the time you have gathered them all up and killed them in a single whirlwind or thunderclap, they starts to respawn. :) If you manage to get all the crockolisks in one place fast enough you might need to wait a few seconds before start the running again. But that's nothing compared to the respawn rate. Pure joy! :)

As of Cataclysm the Loch is still a great place to farm Light Leather. Although there is no longer an island of concentrated crocs there is quite a few level 16 boars. Although they frequently drop medium leather, I've had far more 2x drops of Light Leather from them and there are many of them spread over most of the middle section.

As of the Cataclysm, a great place to farm light leather is just outside the Auberdine Ruins, in Withering thicket. Look for Keeper Karithus, he gives a quest that involves Moonstalkers, Stags, and Bears. All around him are groups of Moonstalkers that are NOT hostile, therefor their names are in yellow. They tend to be gathered in prides of 2 to 3, usually sleeping under a tree or on stones. Because they are a quest mob they respawn very quickly. Within 40 Mins I had over a 120, once I converted the scraps. You'll also find Shadowclaw roaming around. I also received Tigerseye, Malachite, and a Spiked Club of the Eagle. Just be mindful of others needing the stalkers for their quest. I usually just throw a /y out before I start and keep watch for players in the area.

as a horde, i find that when the cooking daily is to kill the pigs outside of orgrimmar, the place is full of corpses. some just drop scraps, but its pretty much a never ending supply of hide.

As of patch 4.0.6 the worgens in Silverpine are not skinnable so i went looking for another good spot close by, and i found that Infested Bears in Hillsbrad are pretty good. They drop about 2 light leather every kill and also drop medium leather. Not the greatest spawn rate but a good spot imo to farm some quick light leather.

For reasons that make no sense to me, the loch crocolisks on the south side of Loch Modan give a lot less light leather and a lot more scraps than the ones on the east side of it. It's bizarre, but it's been very consistent for me in multiple farming runs.

Another good place to get this is the Stonefield Farm in the south of Elwynn Forest. It's within convenient distance from Stormwind and has an abundance of Stonetusk Boars that run around the farm, all of which either drop Light Leather or Ruined Leather Scraps.

Wow! I get to be the first to comment that Fiendishfish and Dangerfish (level 17-18) are skinnable, 1-2 light leather, sometimes a medium leather. you will find them just offshore of the Master's Glaive, Darkshore. You will never run out as they respawn quickly. Happy hunting... er, fishing... hunting, I guess.

Just ran the numbers on 40 kills: 48 Light Leather, 8 Medium Leather, 2 Light Hide, 1 Medium Hide, 1 Moss Agate, and a bunch of vendor trash.

Small note: The list says that "Inconspicuous Bear" in Silverpine can be skinned. This is no longer accurate. At the start of Cata you could, however Blizzard apparently "fixed" it and now the bear turn into Worgen Druid when dead, and are no longer skinnable.

Mobs lvl 16-18 have the best chance to drop light leather when they are skinned. They will consistantly drop 1-2 light leathers, with the occasional scrap, medium leather and light hide.

I have found a good place to farm these is in northern barrens, in the valley between the dry hills and the forgotten pools. They are packed with mobs lvl 16-18 that can all be skinned.

I've been doing it with a hunter, aspect of the cheetah on, one-shotting mobs, and by the time i have circled the area everything has respawned.

If you haven't finished off Silverpine Forest, there's an excellent place called The Battlefront just north of the Graymane Wall filled with Marsh Crocolisks. They're level 18-19, fairly concentrated by the bridge and respawn fast enough for a 42 Hunter to simply run around killing them constantly.

As a bonus you get Crocolisk Meat which can be used for some Cooking. At least if you're Alliance or have an Alliance friend who can buy the pattern and sell it to you on Neutral AH!

Best place i have found after reading this whole front page was Wailign Caverns.
I spent about an hour there ran it 3 or 4 times and left with:
200+ Light Leather
120 Medium Leather
20 or so Hides Light and Medium
Handful of Greens if your tryign to work on Ench too
And not a lot but rep

All i would do is run in on my druid and use Demoralizing roar (non damaging AoE) and run around the top lvl grabing all the raptors without killing them, jump down grab the crocs and the 2 skinable bosses round them up and AoE one shot one kill (I have a gear 85 druid so i can do this)

If your able to do this you can do it i belive 4 or 5 times before you get locked out of the instance for about an hour. GL!

Best place is wetlands at 68,47 on the road south east of greenwardens grove, there is a battle between Ebon slavehunters and dragonmaw whelpstealers, the slavehunters drop light or medium leather, no scraps, and various cloth, they respawn as soon as they are killed so you can just stand in one spot (their spawn point beside baracade on road is best) and kill 4 mobs and they will have respawned before you skin them , it's actually quite hard to keep up and you will find yourself standing in a pile of bodies as you can't skin fast enough.

In one hour I got
400 light leather
280 medium leather
40+ hides
200 wool cloth
and varoius other cloth and green etc

If the slavehunters are fighting the whelpstealers kill them to make them respawn

A really great way to farm the heck out of Light Leathers is in Darkshore, by killing the Moonstalker's, once you do the quest to align yourself with one of the animal spirits, choose that cat and they will become friendly and basically let them skin you for free.

If you're Horde, which seems to be neglected in these comments, as of 4.3 the best place IMHO is Northern Barrens. Any animal levels 13-16 will give a very good chance of light leather. And there's a lot of these fellows there.

I found by accident a lovely sweet spot for farming light leather and Levelling my skinning, its in Redridge Mountains co ords 43:15 and 42:12 (near the entrance of Burning Steps)

At these 2 co ords you will see Great Goretusk (lvl 14-15) i noticed that if you kill one another will pop up in its place almost straight away, does this a few times.

So after a while it will stop, all you do is run down to next co ords and kill the beast there and it will do the same thing, then the original one will re-spawn back up where you was earlier.

so just run to each one rinse and repeat lol blinking fantastic farming spot

another good place if you are higher is northern barrens. The pack of lions normally number seven or eight right in a group. So it's good aoe. They also normally drop mostly light and not scraps, on my 48 mage in half an hour of riding around finding lions i got

I've found if you're higher level with an aoe ability these Wild Horses are your best bet for Light Leather and Medium Leather.

This is strictly a informational video on how to farm these Wild Horses for light/medium leather plus a chance at the coveted Black Tabby zone drop. I found if you stand in one spot these horses will not path through or by you. I'm not sure if it's a bug, but you must fly around on their route for them to show up. Once you kill all in the pack of eight make your way clockwise towards the spawn point.

I Know others have mentioned killing the packs of Wild Horses in previous posts, but think it's easier to learn from a video rather than text.

I found that wetlands at 68,47 on the road south east of greenwardens grove as submitted by moosejam is the place you wanna go if you just wanna stand still, kill, loot then skin.

It is a good in the way that you get some cloth and greens but if you are high level and just want to get light and medium leather fast, then WC is realy a better choice. Since its an instance all you have to do is stand on a mob til he aggroes and then run through pulling all the raptors, snakes and crocks.
Good thing: this is way less booring.
Bad thing: no cloth

The Deep Elem Mine (56:46) In Silverpine Forest is THE place for Light leather and scraps!
The Moonrage Mobs drop Money and can be skinned when in Wolfform (if they have any other form, i'm not sure ^_^)
Respawn rate is crazy! :D Right now i'm farming light leather. There is a priest/warlock combo here and noone of them is Skinner. Best Conditions!

I just farmed some of these Moonrage guys... they look like the worgen in duskwood... and they drop more Ruined Leather Scraps than anything... 1 out of every 10 skins is a Light Leather. I would go to the barrens for your light leather.

the easiest way to get light leather is to go the southern part of Westfall an kill all this pigs or whatever they're called. they are everywhere kill all from lvl 15 up to 19. After one run they all have respawned-quite nice

All I did was when I got skinning i went to one of the Molsen farm or that other farm.got skinning up to 50 there.went to westfall skin the boars there untill u get to 100 then redridge right outside of town boars and dragon whelps. then duskwood til 200 then stranglethorn till 250 then tanaris till 275 then winterspring 300

If you can't get it off the AH for cheap (i.e. less than 60s or so) a nice place to farm it is around Camp T in the Barrens.

I was farming it with my druid and if you're 25+, the kills are really easy and fast. The respawn rate is good too. You almost always get one or two light leather on the 17+ beasts, with a few medium thrown in here and there. None of the annoying scraps. :)

The best part is that generally no one comes out there, so Alliance can do it gank-free. After about an hour farming (close to 6 stacks) I had only seen two Horde, both lower than me (28 at the time) and neither bothered me.

Probably the easiest place for horde is to work a path between the raptor nests just north of the gold road bridge over to the raptor grounds (where you do the stolen silver quest) and back in The Barrens, killing sytheclaw raptors, ornery plainstriders and zhevras. You will get the occasional medium leather but mostly these mobs will drop 1-2 light leathers and NO scraps.

The respawn rate in the raptor grounds is insane so you can get a load of light leather just from clearing this space alone. What you want is level 15-18 skinnable mobs.

The best place for Alliance to farm Light Leather, by far, is Redridge, particularly along the southern coast of the lake. It is crawling with Great Goretusk boars, which often drop 1-2 light leathers and never scraps. They are also intermixed with Black Dragon Whelplings, which give the boost of coming with a small portion of copper and the occasional drop of black whelp scales - though these mostly give out 1-2 light leathers as well. There is also a small, extremely fast-respawning cluster of murlocs which drop various scales for leatherworking. For all mobs there the respawn rate is lightning-fast, and the mobs are around lvl 16-20. Good luck

Alright the absolute best plaace i have found to farm this leather is est of the loch in loch modan. Farming the black bear patriarch almost always drops 2x light leather with each skinning and they're everywhere along with boars and crocodiles for more skins.

With out a shadow of a doubt the wolves at the top of darkshire are the place to be for light leather. I killed about 50 in about 10-15 minutes and came away with 14 med leather - 92 light leather and a few hides too. they often drop 2 with skinning and almost everyone drops at least one.

I confer, Deep Elem Mine in the middle of Splintertree Forest is the best spot for light leather. At least for a higher lvl. I am lvl 45 and with one hit per enemy was able to acquire the 340 skins i needed for lvl 130 in just 2 hours.

I found one of the best places for light leather is in the Barrens, between Honor's Stand & The Forgotten Pools. I have been through almost the whole Barrens for light leather, and this is the best place so far.

Maclure Vineyard south of Goldshire was the best for me. There's about 7 Boars that have a crazy fast respawn time. Had a huge pile of pig bodies in a matter of seconds.

A Great Farm Area needs several things including a fast respawn rate, mobs that don't drop a lot of trash (we have to loot to skin), and consistent skinning results. The raptors respawn here as fast as you can skin them, in fact not once in the time I was farming was I able to actually clear the Grounds for more than 2 seconds before the Raptors started respawning, and I was one-shotting them! In 90 min, I gathered 15 stacks of light leather (300), 35 medium leather, 16 light hide, 3 medium hide, 6 green drops for AH and only had seven stacks of vendor trash (teeth, claws, scales mostly). Great spot with minimal traffic!

I know a really great farm place. However you would probably want to be alliance, and it can be dangerous until at least 20.

It's in Loch Modan. In the Loch, there are 6 islands. The southern one (54,54) is amazing for these things. It's filled with lvl 14 and 15 loch crocolisks. There is about 10 of them (or more) on this one tiny island that takes 10 seconds to run across. But you don't even have to run across it. If you stay on the eastern part, there are around 3 of the guys who will always be there. Kill one, there's another behind you to take its place. They drop mostly light leather, but occasionally scraps, but you can just transform those into lights.

I got 100 light leathers from this place in 45 minutes, although I was a lvl 40 dwarf hunter.

My favorite place for light leather, at least for Horde, is along the road west of the front gates of Undercity. You can start at UC, head west, and as soon as you get into the wooded area, there are worgs on either side of the road. The best spot, however, is after you travel down the road a bit. You will come to a place on the right that looks like a Christmas tree farm. Among the trees are tons of worgs. Work your way down the road to this farm, kill all the worgs there, go back to the beginning, and start over. Lots of light leather in a short amount of time.

The reason this farm is so good is that it is a quest location for noob undead, so the respawn rate is very high.

Went to Deep Elem Mine skinning produced about 70-80% light leather with some scraps thrown in, and the respawn rate is pretty good with a small area to cover. Plenty of bears to skin in surrounding forest too.

alliance skinners - the above post bout the isle in Lock Loman
(southernmost isle) is absolutely correct. I'm 32 feral Druid and I couldn't keep up with the spawn rate even when I was in Cat Form w/one shot one kill melee. 140+ pieces in bout 45-50 minutes. Darkened Bank in Darkshore might yield similar #'s but there's other aggressive mobs to stealth past or kill or get caught from behind while farming = unnecessary time suck. Plus you need flight path in Loch to get to Badlands.

non skinners - AH is best.

The best place I've found for farming light leather is in Redridge Mountains, near Render's camp. The great goretusks respawn as fast as you can kill them, and drop light leather (90% of the time) and medium leather (10% of the time). Grid coordinates: 46.85, 14.57.

if you need light leather and are a high level, SFK is definitely the place to farm, with 60% drop rate on the worgs and the ease of soloability, this is the best place to get your light leather

Another great place for Alliance skinners to collect Light leather is off of the Wolves along the banks of the river in northern Duskwood. Wolves are plentiful and respawn is quick. Just be respectful of players killing them for the quests. There is plenty for everyone, so just move on.

Skinning often yields 1 or 2 light leather. Also you get some medium leather and light and medium hides; no leather scraps.

I've noticed that a fairly good way of getting decent stacks of Light Leather and not bore yourself to death while at it is to dive into the instance of Wailing Caverns in the Barrens. Most mobs can be skinned for Light Leather, and you'll most likely end up with a couple of stacks of Medium Leather as well.
With Ratchet's faction free bank, mailbox and vendors close, it is not a bad choice at all.

Create another character and farm with it. Easy way to get those supplies that you need in the beginning. Sucks later though. I like having one character to farm and another to create. Makes both characters jump easier. Challenge to play though.

I usually solo SFK and get 5-6 stacks of Light Leather that sell for 60-70 silver a stack.

Due to an absurd amount of people trying to undercut one another, the price of a stack of 20 light leather is 99 sp or less.

Honestly, I wish I could get 2 gp for a stack... *sighs*

Judging from the stats on this it looks like Ashenvale would be the best place to farm this, from Wild Bucks (13 - 19) 27.56% (71,881) and Ghostpaw Runners (15 - 20) 24.02% (122,379). I'm gonna try it out later. Need some for tailoring.

An amazing place to level Skinning and collecting Ruined Leather Scraps and Light Leather is the site of the quest Echeyakee , which is on the east side of the hill behind Grol'dom Farm. Savannah Huntresses constantly spawn there, in a never-ending stream.

I don't think it's been mentioned but mobs under level 5 cannot be skinned. Gotta be level 5 or higher.

The Maclure Vineyards(41,41), south of Goldshire. Lots of stonetusk boar. They repop fast - should provide an easy way to level through the early stages of skinning (and leatherworking).

Best place by far for light leather is north end of Redridge Mountains just before going into Burning Steppes. Instant respawn of 16-17 Great Gortusks.

If you're looking to convert your Light Leather into Strange Dust, the Embossed Leather Gloves is the most optimal pattern.

For 3 pieces of leather you can generate 1-2 pieces of strange dust. That's a 2:1 conversion. In contrast. The next closest is the Fine Leather Belt with a 2.4:1 ratio.

This ratio can also help you calculate whether or not it's worth converting the leather into strange dust on your server.

One strange dust must be worth AT LEAST two pieces of light leather on your server to break even.
