this is a rare fish that you can only get out of a "tastyfish" pool that spon all round stranglethorn vale on Sunday from 2 to four. this one you can hand in at BB for a fishing boots, they have 12 sta and +5 to fishing on them.

there is a bug with the fish loot when the "looting this item will bind it to you" comes up
dont shift click the bobber or it will go away. in meaning you cant catch any of the 3 rare fish because of it or it cancels and will go away make sure you dont hold shift for the quick loot system!

This item is part of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Competition. Which takes place every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 Server time.

These are the items that can be won if you are the first person to hand in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Bootybay.
Arcanite Fishing Pole and Hook of the Master Angler.

Once someone has won the fishing competition, you can still hand in your remaining Speckled Tastyfish to Jang in Bootybay. (repeatable quest)

from the russian comments i understood, that rare fish could be fished not only in tastyfish pools, but just around the shore. if your a lucky one, you won't spend much time on that)

For your info: You don't have to go back (Heartstone usually) in a rush, because you can turn them in later.
Also, the turn-in is multiple, so if one person turns it in then you'll still be able to.

Summary; If you get these rare fishes, don't rush back - simply fish on and you'll hopefully win the contest and get the rare items.

i was wondering if any of you who have caught one of these could enlighten those who haven't on what you did to catch this fish, since there are only 2 hours during the week that it's possible to catch them. i know you can only catch the tasty fish in the whirlpools; is it only in the school of tastyfish for these or do they have their own school or what?

Ok, I did these stats AGAIN, please upvote this post so it doesn't get deleted another time. Since people didn't seem to understand how I got these numbers before, I will explain them.

When thottbot tracks data, it does not (and probably cannot) record conditions such as if a fishing bobber was inside a tastyfish spawn. Therefore, it isn't possible to get a "droprate" for the fish. So, the only way to get a feel for how often the rare fish drop is to compare its data to that of tastyfish, since tastyfish are the only other item caught exclusively under the exact same conditions as the rare fish. Fortunately, we know the number of tastyfish that have been caught, as well as how many rare fish.

This logic would be flawed if, for example, tastyfish could be caught in the competition long before rare fish were added, therefore making the tastyfish seem more common. Since, to my knowledge, the rare fish always have been there since the competition started, we can simply divide the number of rare fish caught by the number of tastyfish. Note that this does not take into account the other items that can be fished from tastyfish spawns (stranglekelp, oily blackmouths, ect), so a more accurate description would be for any number of tastyfish caught, an average of x% will be rare, where x is the following:

Keefer's Angelfish: 0.25% (1 in every 400 tastyfish)

Dezien Queenfish: 0.22% (1 in every 450 tastyfish)

Brownell's Blue Striped Racer : 0.18% (1 in every 550 tastyfish)

ANY rare fish: 0.65% (1 in every 150 tastyfish)

So if you were to catch 100 tastyfish every Sunday (which is about how many I usually get), you would have a 16.5% chance to get the Brownell's Blue Striped Racer, or a 48% chance to get any rare fish. Personally, I've probably caught around 750-1000 tastyfish, and have found 3 x Dezien Queenfish. My chance of finding an angelfish with that many caught is somewhere around 90%. I shall keep on trying...

I don't see why Blizzard would make the droprates different for each individual fish, so we can probably assume that they share the same rate (The average is 0.22%). With this in mind, there is obviously a rather large margain of error for these rates. This is because there is very little data on thottbot for the fishing competition (only a total of 233 rare fish are recorded at this time). If you wish to help, run thottbot while you farm and upload your data.

I know the tasyfish spoil so you cant turn them in the next week, but do the rare fish? I don't wanna catch one right before the tournament ends and then have it spoil on me before i can turn it in.

The rare fish do not spoil. Once you loot them they are in your inventory forever or until you turn it in.

How does a lvl 19 obtain Nat's Boots or Lucky fishing hat if req lvl to loot the rare fish is lvl 45?

alright, about all that 1 rare in 150 fish thats a load of bull last sunday i completed my 27th fishing contest and i catch about 110 fish every time and i have yet to get the boots, i have gotten 2 hats but thats it and according to your data i should have some 20 boots and 23 hats, so i dont know if blizz just hates me or what but if anyone has any clues on how to increase my chances on getting the rare fish please let me know.

Just to report on something strange that happened to me today in the fishing tournament... I'd been fishing the nodes for about 15 or 20 minutes, and ran down to another node... the first cast into the node I got a Keefer's Angelfish... 2nd cast into the same node... ANOTHER Keefer's Angelfish... 3rd cast... I want to say it was an eel or something... then a couple of tastyfish, then the last cast into the SAME node... Dezien Queenfish! What the heck? Has anyone else had a similar experience with catching numerous rares from the same node?

There are 3 rare fish that can be caught from School of Tastyfish during the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Extravaganza, every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 (server time).

Here are all 3 rare fish you can catch and the reward items they give.

Brownell's Blue Striped Racer rewards you with Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots +5 fishing
Keefer's Angelfish rewards you with Lucky Fishing Hat +5 fishing
Dezian Queenfish rewards you with High Test Eternium Fishing Line +5 fishing

I've caught this fish 5 times now.
The hat fish twice,
The enchant fish once.

I've only ever done the event on 2 60s
My first got 1 of each item.
My second has the boots 4 times hat once and yet to get the enchant fishing here for 4hours straight on 2 different days. I got this fish today 3 times within 10 casts. cast 1 3 and 10.

Frustrating!
