This has the potential to be a PvP heavy zone, what with the sacking of Camp Taurajo by the Alliance and its presence there.

Wow.. it looks like the Alliance really took root. There seems to be, 5, possibly 6 (Northwatch Hold?), towns probably friendly to Alliance? It'll be very interesting to see how the Alliance owning S.Barrens and the fortified entrance into Mulgore play into the story. Maybe this'll bring some Chuck Norris Barrens Chat to the Alliance as well? One can only hope..

Well, South Barrens IS going to be pvp heavy, watch. There's even some pvp-like quests. Looks like Alliance is maintaining a huge grip on the region, but there's some hope, since there's some nice looking Horde camps, as well. Horde & Alliance ships stationed outside Northwatch is going to make for something to watch :P Since Northwatch is being taken by the Alliance, I'm wondering how Ratchet rep is going to work out? Since it is a Horde city in a Horde zone, maybe they just drop out of the running for the Goblin reps? (Gadgetzhan, Booty Bay, & Everlook). Honestly, I'd love if all four dropped out, became Horde-only, and made the Alliance look elsewhere for sleazy quests :P One more thing, the Great Wall in between Mulgore & S.Barrens. I'm not debating why it should be there, because it makes perfect sense, but what's this mean for Tauren lvling routes? I always moved from Mulgore to the Barrens, so is there going to be a way to open the gate for Horde, or is there's a direct route from Mulgore into N.Barrens?

It was bad enough trying to get a tauren out of mulgore (before the zep was put in) back when barrens was only like 11-20, now it's 30-35

Ratchet still exists after the cataclysm but it's in Northern Barrens. Northern Barrens still looks pretty much the same, except for the huge gaping chasm of lava in the south.

When the Barrens was divided in two, it was thought to have been caused by the Cataclysm. It has now been discovered that Saurfang accidentally dropped his axe while taking a walk in the Barrens.

Just incase others are trying to get there from Northern Barrens. What you need to do is follow the divide ALL THE WAY West. When you are close to where it goes into stone talon, you'll see a section where the divide finally stops, and from there you can get to the opposite side.

Also, I'd like to suggest to mods, spend some time cleaning up the old comments of changed zones since the information may no longer be accurate.

The Southern Barrens is a zone torn by war against the Alliance and Horde, with action the second you enter the zone.

Ever since the shattering, the Great Divide has split the Barrens in two, with only two ways in the Southern Barrens. One of these ways would be to jump off the gate leading to Southern Barrens from Mulgore, the other is to go west along the divide until you see a stop in the divide.

Newfound life has also awakened within the Southern Barrens, perplexed by this, the druids are attempting to find out the cause.

This place has great Horde lore. If you were shocked by your first sight of the ruins of Tarajo like I was, you will take pleasure in gutting the cowardly Alliance dogs in the fight to reclaim land for the Horde.

If you don't feel something when doing \124h\124r");]Honoring the Dead, you don't deserve to be a part of the Horde.

For Alliance players, there are no mailboxes in Southern Barrens. Mail runs will have to be made via flight path or by travel to Ratchet in Northern Barrens.

So I tried to get to Southern Barrens from Northern Barrens on a level 30 alt and couldn't find a way in except to run through the Alliance outpost (I turned Cartographer off when it broke and lost access to the Foglight feature that uncovers undiscovered parts of the map). Died and was able to res at the gy beyond near Hunter's Hill, then went to find the lead-in questgiver at the High Path, the way up to it begins at the ruins just as you enter Stonetalon Mountains.

TL;DR look at your surroundings before trying to charge through an Alli town.

Aside from the chatting garb, to get between the Barrens if you're an Alliance member looking for a way to get around:

Northern Barrens - Enter through Ashenvale from Warsong Lumber Camp and Fallen Sky Lake (68.87)
Soutern Barrens - Enter from Ashenvale at the Stardust Spire to Stonetalon Mountains (36,73) and quest up to the south eastern area Malaka'jin (77,88)

I got fustrated when I discovered it's quite hard to get to Southern Barrens from Northern Barrens.

While trying to discover how to cross the canyon, I accidentally fell in, and died in the lava. I spawned in the Southern Barrens with no repair loss.

This seems to be an easy way to get to the Southern Barrens.

It's intentionally hard to get from Northern to Southern Barrens because of the level difference (this is a level 30-ish zone). The "correct" path is to go around through Ashenvale and Stonetalon Mountains.

I recently discovered this: Despite having those new Alliance bases in Southern Barrens, there are no Alliance specific mailboxes at any of them. If you need to get your mail, you'll have to get to Ratchet's neutral mailbox.

Hey, :)

For Horde characters, there are two ways into Southern Barrens:

From Northern Barrens: Cross the Great Divide up at the very north, 36;5 if you have coords. Even if you fall off into the divide, it's a very short fall at that point and you can easily climb out into the northern tip of the Southern Barrens.

From Stonetalon Mountains: Just follow the road that begins at 78;91, near Malak'jin.
