This skill is acquired through talent points spent in the Discipline tree. Few people say it's not worth the few extra points. As a priest, we all know that there are times where you need that last bit of mana, to pull off that last heal to keep the MT up... but you don't have it.

Inner Focus is your thing. A 3 minute cooldown makes it a decent skill, plus your next spell you can cast 100% free! This can be an awesome life saver in many an instance.

From a priest to a priest, I recommend getting this skill.

You can use this before casting Fortitude so buffing your team doesn't take as long.

I agree. I specced 10 disc 41 holy to try out Circle of Healing, and I was able to get the improved fort and improved Power Word: Shield in the discipline tree, but now when I'm required to buff Fortitude, I usually only have enough mana for 1-2 charges (as opposed to 3-4 before I ditched Inner Focus). This spell is indeed a lifesaver for the mana-intensive Prayer of Fortitude buff. It's a must-have if you plan to buff more and your friends will thank you for not having to drink/mana so much.

If you are going in to an encounter where you know that you will be struggling for mana later in the fight, you may want to evaluate starting the fight with Inner Focus up. While saving a small amount of mana at the beginning of the fight might seem trivial, every little bit can help in some situations.

For example, on an encounter like Patchwerk, having Inner Focus up for your first large heal (or moderate heal, depending on what healing role you've taken), can prove to be a very good investment, as not only did you just save some mana, you've also started the cooldown for the ability that you know you'll use once again. With Patchwerk being approximately a 7 minute fight, and Inner Focus being a 3 minute cooldown, using this ability to start off the fight (or within the first 60 seconds, generally) will allow you to have a free heal three times during the course of the encounter as opposed to two.

And dont forget the 25% bonus crit chance, loverly for those aoe bosses where your group needs healing, wack a group heal and youll have a good chance to crit on all 5 people, or at least a few.

In pvp or pve when i wanna do some dmg i tend to use this with devouring plague :P both 3 min CD and plague is quite mana intencive, so when ones rdy other should be rdy.

A couple of things about Inner Focus. The cooldown does not begin until you trigger the effect from using another spell, and it does not have a global cooldown.

Assuming you use this spell every 3 minutes on your most expensive spell (outside of buffs), you get about 35 mp5 from this talent.

Top rank PoH = 1255 mana (assuming no talent)
180 second cooldown / 5 = 36 five-second intervals.
1255 / 36 = 34.861

You really get a bit more than that, since casting a spell with inner fire will not put you in the five-second rule, allowing you to regen more mana.

Of course, most raid fights won't require a Prayer of Healing, so generally you end up using this spell with a top rank Greater Heal, in which case you only get about 23 mp5 from this spell, varying based whether or not you are talented to reduce mana cost of gheal.

Overall a great spell.

Be sure to use it very early in a mana-intensive fight, so that the cooldown will come up again before the fight ends.

Inner Focus does not activate your global cooldown, so a macro can help you cast Inner Focus and a spell of your choice in one click.

Obviously you'll be using Inner Focus with spells with high mana cost, such as Devouring Plague or Greather Heal.

If you use this ability with Desperate Prayer (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=25437)
the inner fire spell is not consumed, However when DP is casted the +25% critical chance from Inner Focus spell is being counted... which comes rly handy :P Get out of shadow form IF+DP and back to shadowform =)

I see this talent a LOT in Shadow priest builds.
While I understand that most powerful PvE priest would be undead, an this talent will absolutely shine as it provides free Devouring Plague, I can't understand how it can be used for other races?

I'd appreciate if any experienced priest answer me.

haven't had time to test but does anyone know if the 25% chance to crit would effect the dmg output on say SW:P due to the %dmg increase that comes from %crit in shadow form

Haven't seen this noted before, but this thing is fantastic for Disc AoE healing.

Macro up:

/cast Inner Focus
/cast Prayer of Healing

There you have a free AoE heal with an extra 25% crit chance, which should then proc Divine Aegis on half the party. If you cast a PW:S on someone who needs it first, you get the haste from Borrowed Time which means you get an AoE heal with 2 second cast time, zero mana cost and 25% extra crit chance. If you feel really crazy you could always top it off with the glyph for an extra 20% on top of that.

Was wondering if when paired with Mind Flay, whether the extra crit chance applies to all ticks. Seeings how mana is no issue these days, thought that more damage would come out of 3 crits of mindflay compared to mind blast?

You can use the inner focus combo to 'encourage' a free smite with a discipline/holy mix.

For example... discipline/holy mix example

Besides... with the new 3.1 update, blizzard lowered the percent mana is gained by the amount of spirit you have. Having played the PTR myself with my lvl 66 priest, I can honestly say mana is lost quick for my priest... really quick. (When I'm fighting a lvl 66 birdguy with his pet bird in blades edge. One add, and I can be out of mana quick. In 3.0.9, I don't have such an issue with mana.)

I found myself forgetting about this ability from time to time, so binding it to an often-used spell is definitely a good idea.

Inner Focus don't increase SW:P tick crit chance.
Inner Focus don't increase VT tick crit chance.
Inner Focus don't increase Plague tick crit chance.
Inner Focus unlikely to increase Imp.Plague hit crit chance(4/22=18% with my crit=16%, 3min cd is boring >.>)

Edit1:Haha, Imp.Plague isn't "tick" ^^ Just a small typo.
Edit2:Correct me if I am wrong, but I spent hours casting those spells on target dummy each cd. And they kept showing me 14-20% crits, even not close to 41%.

Epic pwnage post, Viewer Discretion is adviced.

If youre a shadow priest, Spec so you get inner focus. It increases dps with 100+. If you use Inner Focus with Shadow word: pain, the 25% crit will allways be there since you have a talent that refreshes the Shadow word: pain everytime you use Mind Flay, I just thought of this yesterday. And it really works !

Ever been in the situation where: your finishing off the enemy when you go for that last bit of health... Shadow Word: Death! The paladin's left with 1-5% HP. "Holy hell! Quick Bubble! Heal heal heal..." Meanwhile you're standing there dumbfounded with near no mana and 10% HP. Bam! Hammer of Wrath followed by a /giggle.

The whole situation can be avoided if that Shadow Word: Death was a critical strike!

My idea for shadow priests is to hook it to Vampiric Touch, our hardest hitting dot. As previously stated, this does work for dots, but not when they are refreshed. For Arena, i use the macro /cast Psychic Horror /cast Inner Focus, because i always follow up a Psychic Horror with Vampiric Touch. I figure this is a better idea than actually linking it to Vampiric Touch so that in those situations where you want to finish them before the horror wears off, you can instead apply the 25% crit to a Mind Blast or SW Death.

For the shadow priests that took this, but don't know what to use it with, Food for Thought.
