The fact that it requires you to be out of combat makes this belt enchant less useful than the other ones, but cool nonetheless. I'm so glad they expanded upon the tinkering idea, it really makes Engineering as badass as it should be.

Engineers can now be invisible for a maximum of forty seconds, if out of combat, using this and this. There is a greater rank of Invisibility Potion, but Ghost Mushrooms are both rare and expensive, and it's only three more seconds of invisibility. Anyway, any Engineer having at least forty seconds of invisibility available to them creates some very interesting possibilities in Cataclysm, especially involving dungeons. An idea I had was taking a group of geared Engineers and Druids/Rogues into AV, stealthily making their way through a turtle, and ninjaing the end boss, similar to that video of all the Engineers soloing Wintergrasp with bombs. Point is, there are a lot of creative things to be done with the amount of invisibility we have now.

Additionally, this sometimes fails, and you only think you are invisible.

I bet the devs watched Mistery Men, and the trick to never have it fail is to activate it when nobody is actually looking.

Huge upgrade from the Gnomish Cloaking Device! 1.5x the duration, 1/12th the cooldown, and doesn't take a trinket slot. The only downside is that you're missing out on the Grounded Plasma Shield, which is very valuable in both pvp and pve. You can bet I'll have an alternate belt to swap out for invisibility though. :)

I learned how to make this when i made some Electrified Ether. Same way an alchemist would get a discovery on transmutes and such.

This can be discovered randomly while crafting other engineering items. You can not learn this ability at a trainer.

I discovered how to make this today and excitedly put it on my belt... only to realize it required a level of engineering higher than that of what I actually had. Significantly higher actually. I'm 473 and it requires 500 to use. With as much mats as it's taking to level my engineering I feel quite scammed here since I know I won't be hitting 500 any time soon. I want to use what I've learned. ):

Occasionally while invisible, you will be afflicted by Field Disruption, although I'm unsure what it does.

Backfires from this tinker:
Field Disruption - ends your invisibilty effect before the full duration.
~~Dazzled - makes all players and NPCs invisible, even ones in your party! But they can still see you.~~

As far as backfires go, these are not so bad.

Gnomish Cloaking Device + Invisibility Potion + Invisibility Field = 43 second of invisiblity.

I used rocket boots, cloaking device and the potion to make a clean getaway from enemy cities once i had been spotted. The great part is you can use your mount during the invisibility from the potion and i assume you can do the same for this tinker since it provides the same sort of invisibility. So after your 41.5 seconds of running away unseen, start using your mount and you will be far away from whoever is trying to kill you and on a mount.

Can anyone with 525 engineering confirm that they were able to learn this after reaching cap? I have heard that people have had problems discovering the tinkers after hitting cap.

That's because this tinker (like all the other Cata tinkers I have seen) is not a trained spell. It is sometimes randomly learned while creating other unrelated engineering devices. It's very similar to the Alchemy discoveries: you will be crafting something random (in this case let's say electrified ether) and upon finishing your new item you will be told you have learned a new spell! This admittedly can be annoying if you don't get the spell you want, but it can also save lots of money on trainers!

Edit: Not sure why this has been downvoted it's accurate information. Unless this has changed since I learned all my tinkers, it still is.

I was never able to get this invisibility to last longer than 5 seconds because of the Field Disruption. So far seems to be very disappointing as 15 sec duration it just impossible to get.

If it only worked for at least 10 seconds, would have been real fun (like use it and then sneak behind a flag and tap it on a BG)

Hotfix

The Invisibility Field no longer causes the Dazzled backfire effect. Additionally, the Invisibility Field effect does not carry over into Arenas and cannot be used in Arenas.

So, now it might actually be worth using in PvP right before a warrior gets to charge you, or fun stuff like that ;)

Noticed something after I did some testing on this invisibility field, need fellow engineers to confirm if this happens to them as well:
The disruption only happens when you walk a certain distance away from where you started the invisibility.

Just as with the cape (which is slot #15 or the hands which are slot #10), this can be combined with a "/use ##" macro. If you have multiple belts, with different effects it will activate whichever one you are wearing. Which is especially important for times when you have multiple cloaks and need to activate your parachute without swapping cloaks and waiting 30 seconds.

Never dazzled though, always field disruption.
Anyone care to elaborate?

And 33% uptime for a tinker that makes you invisible and to the general public untrackable?

This + Feign Death = Hunter Vanish.

Using this only requires that you be out of combat, not your pet (it also does not work on your pet). Therefore you can quickly pet passive, FD, and Invis with very little delay, whereas Camo requires your pet to get of combat which takes a very long time. This also does not break when your pet attacks like camo does, so once you are invis you can immediately attack again with your pet to keep your location hidden. Very useful in the PvP areas where it is useable.

I have used around 20 already,

and almost every single time (like 3 out of 4) it ends before the duration (with over half of the time before even 4 seconds)

At least it doesn't deal over half of my HP when it fails or taunts all enemies around and increase the damage taken by 100%...

If you're looking for a nice tinker for your belt, I suggest avoiding this. Tested about 50 times on PvE (soloing old stuff, sneaking by annoying mobs) and this failed 100% of the times whenever there was an enemy nearby.

It lasts for 15/14 seconds if there are no enemies in range, but the max I could get being nearby an enemy without being disrupted was 3~4 seconds. I haven't tested if the enemy level affects this, I tested as a level 85 against level 81~82 Raid Elites.

It's a shame, for it would be really useful if it hadn't this 100% fail chance (at least for me). If you really need an invisibility skill to get past stuff, use potions.

The only thing that I've used this for, and what I wanted to use this for, was avoiding gankers. It has worked more often than not. It is quite satisfying escaping a would be @$$-bag. Repentance/Hammer of justice + run! + cloak + mount up + /yell LOL. Even with the brief duration (on average 5-6 sec) that's still plenty of time running in the opposite direction to mount up.

Before everyone starts saying, "Well, if you're out of combat, mount then." Typically, my application is when I'm already 3/4 dead from the would be ganker. Where the final shot from a hunter when trying to mount or just after mounting, walock/priest DoTs, warrior charge/weapon throw, DK with their grab. I've successfully escaped all of these. Given, I've used this mainly in Deepholm mat farming and Therazane questing. Sometimes the duration ends just too quick but lasted long enough for me to get to a cliff and bubble jump after they think they've got me.
