Since the patch just came out yesterday, I'm curious if anyone can answer these questions.

1) "Each Shadow Orb increases the damage done by your Mind Blast and Mind Spike spells by 34%. Each point of Mastery increases damage by an additional 4.3%."
I read this as each shadow orb = 34% additional dmg to MB/MS thus 3 orbs equal 100%? or 102%?
Does each point of mastery add 4.3% to the 100% for three orbs when casting MB/MS?
Does each point of mastery add 4.3% to every shadow spell damage or just MB/MS?

2) Is there a mastery rating cap that applies towards our class/spec?
In the case of spriest, we apply 4.3% additional damage for each mastery point. Does it max out at 100% or can it be exceeded?

I'll attempt to do the math, but I'm sure it's not 100%, but hopefully in the ballpark.

At level 80, I have 10.05 mastery points, 8 mastery points + 2.05 from reforging (94 rating).
Thus if I have 3 shadow orbs up, my damage would equal to (not including talents b/c I'm lazy)
MB(34% * 3 ) + MB + (4.3% x mastery points)MB = Total MB dmg.
Lets say MB does 1000 dmg.
1000(1) + 1000 + (0.043 * 10.05)*1000) = 1000 + 1000 + 432.15 = 2432.15 total dmg.

Now at level 80 it requires 45.85 mastery rating to equal 1 master point. This means that it would require 23.26 mastery points at level 80 to reach the 100% damage increase in addition to the 100% I get with three shadow orbs. Does the 4.3% keep increasing per mastery point beyond 100%?

3) Once past level 80, does anyone know how many mastery rating it takes to reach 1 mastery point per level? I'm assuming it will increase for each level up to 85 if it follows the same paradigm as other stats. shadow orbs.

So is this a spell that we activate for use, or do they just stack until the next cast of Mind Blast / Mind Spike (which we won't have Mind Spike yet for the recent patch, that will come later when we can level up to get it)?

It seems that when consumed, all of the Shadow Orbs accumulated are consumed together?

It is a triggered ability, not activated; triggered by SW:P or Mind Flay.
Shadow Orb is a buff with a 60s timer.
When you Mind Blast (or Mind Spike, presumably) all stacks of Shadow Orb are consumed.

on my priest i have about 17 mastery. pretty much reforged all my gear for mastery. definatly worth it. im doing 25k mind blast crits with three orbs self buffed. hit a 41k in 10m ICC.

definatly makes a difference

Well, for anyone who played a Trollpriest in Vanilla like me, it's nice to see this spell sort of return. We actually had shadowy orbs back then, but it was really something like the shaman's lightning shield. I was sad when they left, but now the orbs are back, at least...

The tool tip on my mastery says I have an 18% chance of SW:D and MF to grant a shadow orb and each shadow orb increases the damage of MB by 71%. That is increased by 4,3% for each point of Mastery.

I currently have 16,84 points of mastery (not to be confused by Mastery rating which is a significantly higher number). Multiplied by 4,3 (the % of increase per point) and I add 72.45 more damage to the base increase of 71% for a total of 143,45% increased damage per orb on my MB.

This is mistaken. When you grab the Mastery ability you immediately gain 8 Mastery, without any need for Mastery Rating. This gives the 34% that is stated here. 8 times 4,25 equals exactly 34.
(As you might see if you look at the spell info Apply Aura part, it's actually 4,25% per point of Mastery and the tooltip is just rounding that up to 4,3. There's a lot of rounding going on, but for the most part it seems to use the written 4,3% value):

Also, the tooltip for your Mastery is automatically updated as you gain extra points, it's not the stated value plus your Mastery value. This in turn means that your 16,84 points of Mastery (8 base + 8,84 from gear), times 4.3 which equals 72,412 (most likely rounded to 72,45%).

You get exactly what it says, no math needed on your own part.

I hope this clears it up a bit.

So how can I get this to proc consistently? Is the chance on SW:P tick? How can I improve it? My spriest is only lvl 77. Is there a way I can get the buff more often?

Reforging for mastery is pointless...even with the extra little boost you your MB/MS it still doesn't scale as well as haste/crit...so imo reforge for that after you reach hit cap which shouldn't be to difficult...you'll more than likely have problems getting rid of hit with what they did to spirit.

This was supposed to make young SPs feel more like SPs before shadowform... but you don't start seeing them until lvl 80?

You currently get shadow orbs before 80, but you do not get Mastery until 80 so you're stuck with the 10% chance to proc an orb until you learn Mastery. I was playing my 70 priest and kept getting them, regardless of the fact that I couldn't find the ability in my spellbook - nor did it appear on the talent summary pane.

I wailed on a training dummy for 15 minutes and never saw 1... (lvl 70)

the reason some of u are seeing them and some of u arent b4 lvl 80 is becuase some ppl spec into harnessed shadows asap, and some dont. that talent there CAN, not likely, but it can proc an orb b4 u get mastery. on another note, the orbs are completely useless b4 u get mastery, w/o it, the orbs dont give ANY dmg increase

Sure are a lot of bad/worthless comments on this. Let me correct some things...

This works right at lvl10. It's part of using the shadowtree. Mastery just improves it. It doesn't require 70 or 80 to see. Read the Shadow tree summaries please.
