Unfortunately for mages, this works and is great against their Water Elemental (41-point talent from patch). Then they have a long 3 minute cooldown - don' t bother fighting it!

This is so much fun. I hope blizzard doesn't remove the ability to banish druid Trees.

I am currently attempting to determine if the banish only lasts 12 seconds since the patch. I know this is the case with fear, but..... yeah.

This ability gives warlocks an incredibly important role in both Dire Maul West (there are tons of elementals there of all kinds) and in Molten Core (Garr's earth elementals). Don't let anyone tell you again that locks are summon/soulstone bots.

A vital skill for several scripted boss encounters but fairly lackluster while leveling. Unless you are fighting lots of demon's and elementals, the chances of getting adds you can't handle and being able to get the 1.5 sec cast off is fairly low.

Also very good crowd control ability at higher lvls in Blackrock Depths. Those fiery elementals tend to hit high with pure fire damage. Also they are always paired with about 2 dwarves.

This is an outstanding TBC spell. There are demons and elementals all over the place, so lots of places to CC.

This is ability is key in a few raiding areas, like Mag's Lair, he summons some demons that Warlocks must banish and CC or the raid dies.
The trash before Void Reaver has two demons per pack that that do nasty damage, but banish makes it a lot easier.

You can also do a nice "trick" if facing a hard demon/elemental encounter: Cast CoD on it, banish it, take a nice long break, remembering to re-banish when it runs out (but be sure to time it!) -- after 60 seconds, you'll want the target not to be banished, so that your CoD inflicts its nasty damage. Then proceed the fight as usually.

Useful against mobs that otherwise may not be soloable.

This is useful in PvP, especially Arena, against a Resto Druid who is dumb enough to be in tree of life form.

Very useful agains SL warlocks as banishing his pet negates the Soul Link for the duration of the banish giving you a window to nuke him down. As of "dunno which patch" the other pet synergies remain when the pet is banished but SL is still affected.
Keep in mind though that pets with high resistences will be hard to banish and keep banished.

I guess someone should mention that this now has a 6 second duration against pvp targets. It's unfortunate to see this spell lose a large amount of usefulness, but understanding why is easy.

When a demonology warlock uses Metamorphosis they also gain the weaknesses of a demon, meaning an enemy warlock could chain fear/banish for the full 30 second duration. With this recent change a warlock still has a lot of control over a transformed player, but at least now they can't keep them locked out completely.

a side note, threat is still accumulated while a target is banished. this means that if you banish a monster, then send either a VW or felguard at it, the monster will have huge threat with your pet and it will be very tough to pull aggro off of it.

Curious fact: In patch 0.6 (beta of the game), Banish had a 30 min cooldown! Can you imagine that?

Some mobs, such as Blackrock Shadowcaster, can banish humanoids and even beasts. I don't know if it's a bug or what, but its very annoying.

I'm so glad that we can "un-banish" our own targets by simply recasting this spell now, allowing us to effectively CC numerous mob types through both this spell and Fear.

Because if u fear them they might run up to their friends and come back with like 5 other mobs. With this on they wont move + it wont break no matter what happens. And it last longer then fear.

Thott says this is a spell from the shadow school of magic. Where did they read this? It's not in the description of the spell or anywhere I've ever seen. Our guild makes a habit out of asigning 2 warlocks on lava reavers and elemental to banish them. One to put a Curse of Shadow to reduce their resistance and the other to Banish. If this spell is not shadow then this would be a useless activity. I personaly have not noticed a difference in the mobs resisting me more if I don't CoS them but who knows?

so lets say im a demonologist

if my pet gets banished do my buffs like demonic knowlege and master demonologist still stay in effect

how about soul link- does 30% of my dmg go to an invunerable pet

can i still use the demonic sacrifice talent on them

When in ToL form, a Druid is considered an Elemental. Banish him/her! Also, I believe you cannot use DS while your Demon is sacrificed (you also cannot Sac your VW while he's feared, etc). I'm not sure about the buffs, but I think they'd disappear too -- a bug was recently fixed that would reapply class buffs like Leader of the Pack when Cyclone was removed, it probably works the same way with Banish.
