While the home location for this spell and your Hearthstone are the same, you do not need the Hearthstone to cast this spell. Once you get this spell, you can reclaim bag space taken up by your totems by placing your Hearthstone in the bank... or better yet, destroying the Hearthstone and saving valuable bank space as well.

Tip: This amazing spell does not cause a hearthstone cooldown, so one could AR, hand in a quest, get a quest, finish that quest, hearth, accept another quest, do that quest and AR again, all in the space of 25ish minuets, which is practically awesome for a speed player.

Also note that while in combat this spell is inactive, so no battle hearth, thats only for the Loladins k

It's also worth mentioning that this spell, unlike a hearthstone, is NOT usable in combat.

It probably is too obvious to be worth mentioning, but getting a mage to portal you to Shattrath and setting your hearthstone there will make the usually tedious old-world questing a bit less time consuming. True for all other classes as well, but especially nice with this spell.

does nature's swiftness make this instant cast? and if so, is that why astral recall can't be used in combat? :-P

i guess instant hearths to avoid enemy players would be a bit ridiculous lol

Until I got my shammy past lvl 30 I didn't realise just how awesome this spell is. It's not the fact that it's on a seperate cooldown from your HS, but the 15 min cooldown on this which make it great. Being able to hearth every 15 mins is just very convenient for questing...

Tbh, it makes the HS pretty much obsolete. There just aren't many situations where you want to HS more often than once every 15 mins, at least up until Outland where Shatt and its portals make life more interesting ;p

I just want to add, my way of benefiting from this is having HS in bag space, and when my bag needs extra space just drop hs. You don't have to delete your HS for ever. Like some people are saying. Just when you need the space.

With the glyph, hearthstone, and scrolls of recall a shaman with inscription can return to an inn 14 times an hour. You can add in a Dalaran ring for an extra two teleports. If you need to go to an inn more often than that, I'm affraid you'll have to roll a mage.

A little explanation of this macro. If you try and use Astral Recall within 900/450 seconds of last clicking the macro, it will use your hearthstone as it is next in the macro. After 900/450 seconds lapses, the macro resets to Astral Recall. This is not the same as 'if it is off cooldown' because every time you click the spell, it resets the timer. That means if Astral Recall is 5 seconds from coming off CD, and you click the macro, it will use your hearthstone then reset the macro. You will be locked out of Astral Recall (in the macro) for another 900/450 seconds even though it comes off cooldown 5 seconds later.

Not entirely true. Since it's a castsequence macro, once the last spell is reached, the sequence is reset. So this'd be a more accurate check:

The macro hasn't been used for 450 / 900 seconds? Try to cast Astral Recall.
The macro has been used within 450 / 900 seconds? Try to use Hearthstone.
Hearthstone was the last used? Try to cast Astral Recall.

So as i was doing my Argent tournament dailies today i decide to use this spell on my shammy to quickly get back to Dalaran. to my GREAT surprise i find my self in the frozen sea out in the ocean, in the fatigue zone, way south of howling fjord. luckily i notcied intime to cast water walking and hop on my flying mount, barely making it out in time before the fatigue meter fell to 0. the one time i was glad to keep a real hearth stone in my bags :)

This spell is affected by Haste from gear. At the time of this writing, my 315 haste rating (still gearing up D:) knocked off .88 seconds from the original 10 second cast time. Has absolutely no value in terms of combat, but a nice perk in addition to the already short cooldown time.

I'm a shaman with mining. My hearthstone is set to the front of Orgrimmar -- best use? Using the forge in the back of Orgimmar and hearthing to the front. Lazyiness FTW.

Doesn't work with natures swiftness, as that doesn't work on anything with a 10 second timer.

Druids can't do Teleport: Moonglade with NS, either.

When i got this spell I deleted my hearthstone... but then found out it's not combat usable... so i went and got a new hearthstone.

Moral of the story:
Don't delete your hearth-stone, it's still a great tool.

LOL to the guy who said it would be unfair for shamans to carry around 4 totems AND a hearthstone. Cause you know, losing an entire bag spot to a quiver or having your bag full of stupid little soul shards is just fine.

ok here is a little trick u can do with the hearthstone. If u need to hearth to a place then hearth back, like in so many aggrovating qwests, then just take to an inkeeper while your hearthing. If u time it right u can set your hearth there and still heart to the place u had it set before. Best way to time it is accept just as u are about to cast it. Aim for .3 seconds left on casting time if u have the mod . It may take sometime to get down the timing but it works trust me.

This spell is very usefull for Shamans. No it is not " zhomegah ova p0///3d it only benafits shamans. No advantage to any other classes no disatvantage to any classes.

To be succesful in the areana just roll a class that starts with "War" and roll your face around the keyboard.

So you can hearth every 15 minutes? What I find more powerful is the mages teleport between the major cities with NO cooldown, and without setting a hearth. If you wanted a smaller city, you can just fly there. So, if anything, mages are overpowered because they can teleport to any of the major cities.

As Many of said it's a hearth stone that has a cool down of 15 mins and you also have your reqular hearthstone too.. It's handy if you go questing for 15 mins plus and don't want to run all the way back to town to turn in quests. the Ultimate lazy spell.

You may say this makes Shaman OP, but think about how Shaman cant turn into a ghost wolf inside buildings or caves and have to spend talent points for something that should be instant cast. Just 1 thing people don't think about before they post. This is like a druids ghetto travel form. Stop crying.
I could understand a complaint if you could make the astral recall for a different place than your hearthstone. That would be OP...

Can it be cast in combat? If so, it would be useful to get out of a hairy situation (like a self-only evac spell in EQ). If not, its still nice to be able to hearth home every 15mins (plus once an hour with the hearthstone). Sure makes turning in quests all over the place easier if you set your home point at a central places for all the turn ins. It's definately not a useless spell although it might not be as vital as some of the totems or as helpful in getting around as Ghost Wolf. It certainly has its place.

Now that we're back in Classic, the value of this spell cannot be overstated. No teleport toys, no stationary portal hubs, no 15-minute Hearthstone cooldown. This spell really is a gem.
