The only real effect of Chaos Bolt is that it will make Paladins, Mages, Rogues use their immunities much earlier than before. Remember, you only have 1 Chaos Bolt every 8 seconds. So if you don't actually kill them, their immunity to everything else still remains.

You can probably gib a bubbled pally now and then, but they are still mostly going to be fine as they still have a long time to heal etc after eating a chaos bolt (if they don't die)

I hope they change it to pierce immunity like paladin bubble and mage iceblock, priest can dispell bubble/ice block so why shouln't warlock get a counter attack to?

this spell is like soul fire on crak! low cool down. fast cast speed. i mean soul fire hits harder, but if you can fire off enough chaos bolts then who cares if you get one 5k crit with it compared to several 2k basic hits. i like it but i wish they would do something to make soul fire the lean mean soul destroying machine it should be.

I use this spell whenever the Empowered Imp (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=47223) is up and I get 4k crits with approx 950 spell damage. Only downside with this spell is that it costs a load of mana, although if you use conflagrate a lot (which I do) it only costs about 500 (thanks to https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=47260).

Edit:In my opinion, this is a great spell for both PvE and PvP purposes.
And to Brachamul, this spell may cause quite som damage, but remember it's on a 12 sec cooldown.

the dps output of this skill in respect to the current rank info... is higher than incinerate, and you'd need over 3k spellpower for the dps of incinerate to catch up to the dps of this skill...

so from a raiding dps standpoint..you should pop this everytime it is up. and since its unresistable, its best to use it when you have the imp-crit buff...so your crit isn't resisted^.^

What do they mean when they say "Causes the warlock's mind to turn Chaotic."? Any reports from beta? There's a "Chaos Bolt Passive" effect listed (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=58284), that causes "Mod Spell Healing (% of Intellect)" and "?". It heals you for an amount based on your int and, say... turns you green?

The problem with chaotic mind is that Immolate ticks every 3 seconds and Chaotic Mind lasts only 8 seconds. But if your Chaos Bolt hits two seconds after you cast Immolate, you will get 3 ticks during the 8 second duration of Chaotic Mind.

This is like the Affliction talent Nightfall for Destruction.

If you are lucky, Backlash procs, instant Shadowbolt/Incinerate.
If your target is burning, Chaos Bolt can trigger instant Soulfire.

The burst damage potential is insane, but all the triggers are based on chance, the RNG.
This is quite contrary to their design goal to minimize the effect of random crit luck/procs on fights.

Interesting that the magic school changed from Fire to "Chaos" in recent builds, although lore-wise the spell was always meant to do chaos damage. Wowhead reports the damage as "physical", contrary to the talent tooltip. I'm sure this will get ironed out in the coming weeks but since the Destro tree provides massive bonuses to Fire/Shadow, one would hope that the spell would deal damage in a fashion that keeps a benefit from this.

By Cannot be Resisted, does this mean you could do PvE content with no hit rating by exclusively using this spell? Or is the Cannot be Resisted like having unlimited Spell Penetration for Chaos Bolt?

Just did some calculations @ lvl 60 using https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=47260 https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=17792 and a https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=22838 if I am correct Chaos bolt's cast time is reduced to 0.54 secs. Does anyone know what the spellpower ratio is for Chaos bolt? Cause at lvl 60 I was doing 4k crits with Soulfire (700 SP, talents and curse of elements pre Wotlk talents) just wondering if Chaos bolt rank 1 could do larger crits, anyone tried this at lvl 60?

Yes... Chaos Bolt is the new nukespell.
In some old lvl 70 PvP Gear and in lvl 72, you can make 5-6k damage (without CoE! (Curse of Elements - +10% damage)). One of the best things with it, in PvP, is no1 exspect a Chaos Bolt... Just the way a priest panics when he gets a 5k crit with his shield up xP.
In PvE, there are 2 rules with this spell: keep the CoE up, and hold Chaos Bolt on CD! Its great damage, and it really boosts your DPS..! and when you play Firelock, its THE spell!

So.. get it! use it! nuke your foes! Warlocks for ever! HAHA! xP

There is NO POINT casting this when you need to dps a shield down

Since is bypasses shields, you will just be wasting time eg. Twin Val'kyr, Ascendant council, Atramedes trash

Fun fact: this 12 second cooldown spell has lower spell power coefficient than Incinerate. Which means if you have enough spellpower, Incinerate will deal more damage than this "nuke" spell.

Atm this spell is barely worth casting

They should either increase scaling or buff Fire and Brimstone talent or even passive damage like they did in 3.0.8 (was it 3.0.8 or 3.0.9 i forgot)

The rogue ability Cheat Death now works against Chaos Bolt.

4.0.6 Patch notes: "Cheat Death was activating by a warlock's Chaos Bolt but not working. Chaos Bolt will still trigger Cheat Death, but will not kill the rogue."

~~Noodle Bolt~~ Chaos Bolt was removed from the game during a short time over Mists of Pandaria beta. It was reintroduced in a recent patch, and replaces Soul Fire.
