This is a perfect replacement for a Mind Blast opener when soloing in PVE. It might do some little damage less, but it scales so much more effectively than MB that with good itemization it leaves MB in the dust, and that is even without the mana regen. The mana regen is really best viewed as a means of making our already mana efficient spammable spell even more mana efficient, and the best part transforms our +spell gear into some bit of mana efficiency gear.

In a party setting, this spell really shines.

There seems to be no good reason to go Shadow and not grab this.

Vampiric Touch is an amazing skill for lvl50 and well worth the wait, like previous comments before me have stated it regenerates 5% of shadow damage you deal with your spells in mana, so not only does it basically cost less to cast spells in the end, I find it to be a great replacement to Shadow Word: Pain. I found using SW:P along with Vampiric Touch, Mind Blast and Mind Flay to get me a bit low on mana, so i decided to switch it up. Now i just shield, Vamp Touch, MB, Mind Flay, Mind Flay and by that time the mob is usually low enough to finish off with a wand. Not only do you recieve mana back for casting your spells but with this reduction in spell casting after Spirit Tap of course I had basically full mana again ready to take on the next mob (without drinking).

The dot effect of Vampiric Touch now deals 495 shadow damage at level 50, not 450. Just a little extra to make it even more worthwhile getting.

its only ,what, 5% you wont notice a big difference unless your mana pool sucks, or you're doing the curator fight in kara and hes evocating.

BUT, it has a great effect although some people wont notice it at all. on my mage(50/11/0 arcane/fire) i ask to be in the shadow priest's group or a shaman's group during any raid for all the nice little buffs and boosts i get. It gives you more damage output AND makes you more group friendly as a class

It says "...gain 0.25% of their maximum mana per second when you deal damage from Mind Blast." I don't get that. Mind Blast is a cast, not a DoT, so how is it mana per second when dealing damage with Mind Blast?

This spell makes all casters begging to be grouped with the shadow priest. Yay, we're a lot more useful in raids now while dealing lots of DPS.

How does this add magical dmg ? It's a 1,5sec cast but it doesnt receives 44% of you magical dmg.

Im a lv52 shadow priest with +232 shadow dmg and the DoT does 190-200 dmg every 3 seconds, thats like 1000 dmg over 15ec. 450 + 232 (full dmg bonus) = 682 dmg 0o.

weird.. maybe it gets full dmg bonus +the 44% tell me if im wrong

This spell looks really good...as a ower level shadow priest im lookin forward to picking this up at 50. How would this spell chain work...MB/embrace/pain/touch/flay repeat? in good gear i see this as a was to out dps locks (while still being infinetly more useful), but hey whatever. getting back health and mana at the same time is a good start i think.

So you're saying we should stop getting Priests on groups and replace them with locks... After all, locks ''zomgwtfpwn!11''.

Dude for real... I like locks but you're just plainly stupid. A good Priest can save the total group. You say ''a well timed healthstone will save a rogue or mage'', and a healing priest CANT do that? And also, a good Shadow Priest can actually be more usefull than a lock. Sure you can teleport people and SS, but priests can DPS very good as well as HEAL very good and not to mention we can res people! So before you start #$%^&ing about warlocks owning priests, learn what priests do.

Why are Shadow priests actually hated -_-
We have good dmg, passive heal and a rly nice passive mana skill (this one) for party if the priest does shadow dmg.

Once in a Underbog group, warrior, rogue, mage, druid an me(as priest) The druid was resto specc but all the party members thought I had to heal while i had +500 shadow dmg and the resto druid went dps in cat -_- So damn stupid imo and it happens all the time..

Paladin tanks love Shadow priests. Between the active mana regen of Vampiric Touch, and any regular heals they may get from the MH VE also tops up paladin mana pools thanks to Spiritual Attunement. VE even helps a MH paladin with a little extra mana regen.

You are a mana battery, Hooray!

(P.S. Locks don't do jack for my mana pool)

lol priests have good dps.....priests have THE BEST dps out there.....proven by a friend of mine whose raid on ssc i watched first hand....200% of the dmg the mage after him in the meter did....gg.....and i practicly cant see a holy pala with ~100 mp5s while casting going oom when a SP is n group.....but then again loladins....
