I would always use this shot first against any caster...period. It sets up the opportunity for you to pull of a Scatter shot immediately after, all the while using your pet and Arcane shots to dish out the damage.

Silencing Shot followed by Scatter Shot is an awesome combo against casters. You could also throw in a Viper Sting to drain mana as well. Also, by the time, your Silencing shot and Scatter shot are wearing off and it is almost time for another Silencing shot (20 second cooldown). Like I said before, hunters got much love this patch.

I find this talent highly useful and i recommend getting it.

every class has problems fighting warlocks, including rogues.. however, Hunters arn't exactly stamina friendly.. so once a warlock has you in a fear-lock with dots + pet + shadowbolt hitting you, it is highly likely you will die as a hunter..

Silencing shot helps alot, you could cast this on a warlock and hope you do some massive damage :)

Paladins with the Silencing Effect can still Divine Shield to remove the effect and most other debuffs. This is also true with a Mage's Ice Block.

If someone wants to spec in Marksmanship i recommend this shot its helpful almost anywhere somethings casting any kinda of spell and in the battle grounds too.

Well, its a silence, not a stun, so it won't stop anyone, it will just interrupt any spell currently being cast, and prevent any spells from being cast within 3 seconds of landing.

Just wanted to add that it's not possible to have both Silencing Shot and Intimidation, similar to the way you cannot have both The Beast Within and Scatter Shot.

Silencing shot is the best sting a hunter can have(i consider it as my best friend) against unprepared and prepared casters. Especially the healers, if you're in a contested territory and you meet a 2k hp player(it could be any class) and you see a healer near them...you silence the healer kill the 2k hp player and then kill the healer too. Still hunters pwn.

I'm glad to hear this will have the interrupt effect in Wrath. Up to this point, the pinnacle of a marksman's talent tree has been utterly useless in raiding, since raid bosses are all immune to silence.

Unlike 99% of hunter's shot's this no longer has a travel time. If you see a stupid Paladin casting Divine Light, the moment you press this ability, the spell will be interrupted and may not casts for a further 3 seconds.

Unfortunately I've never seen a hunter in any of my raids/pugs use this. I mean hunters already have the easy rotation and easy roles in a raid (what with laying frost traps and all, requiring years of practice) yet sometimes they'll just keep going with their rotation instead of going for a kick.

Here is a useful macro to use with Silencing Shot, when you're DPSing one target, but need to interrupt another (Queen Azshara in Well of Eternity, I'm looking at you). Set the target to be interrupted as your focus.

/cast Silencing Shot; Silencing Shot

This will allow you to stay on your current target, and interrupt your focus when needed without manually targeting it. If you do not have a focus, it will cast Silencing Shot on your target.

(I'd like to thank the Squirrel and Stormwind Rat who helped me test this macro. Unfortunately, the Squirrel did not survive the experience. My condolences to his family.)

In effect, it'll stop whatever you're doing, e.g. stop your casted shot, should you be winding one up, and shoot a Silencing Shot at your either your mouseover target (the target that you have your cursor on), or, if you don't have one, your current target. The showtooltip thing is just so that it'll display the text and cooldown for Silencing Shot, and is not necessary to the proper functioning of the macro; it's something that I prefer to have, not something obligatory. The same macro works well for Scatter and Concussive Shot.
