AQ20 is where this spell absolutely SHINES. Our guild has relised an AQ20 run without druids is a raid with a lot of deaths.

When you first enter, your best bet is to root one of the guards and tank the other away. When moving further in, root the little white ones(reds are immune) and bring the bug packs down one by one.

Down the hunter tunnel root the reds away and keep their AOE ailence away from the tanks. In the hunter room, root the little white ones again, this time the bug packs go from 3 to 5 bugs.

We set up designated rooters everytime and this spell, which I hardly ever used previously, now has a permanet place in my heart :)

Great for pve and pvp. I use it a lot when players are on a mount even though most can escape it atlest they need to get off there mount to escape the effect or till they take damage. I tend to root them go into car form or bear and rip them a new one :) Try next time one great skills from stopping someone from running away,

One question, does anyone know the scaling of this? ~200%, like a DoT of that duration?

If so, this seems quite powerful for damage actually, seeing Brambles gives +75% damage, that'd mean ~350% scaling over the 27s, with a basedamage of nearly 600.

Yes, but you want to root the enemy instantly, use Nature's Grasp. Nature's Swiftless is very usable with long-casting healing spells

Don't use this for spell damage, if you pull 2 mobs, root one, and focus on the other (spamming wrath and putting on your dots is probably the most viable option).

Please don't get Brambles too.

Note that this spell was hit with the nerf bus a few months ago, reducing its usefulness by quite a bit. It will last a maximum of 12 seconds (I think, it might be 10), and every time you use it in succession, the time it will last is reduced by 50%. (12, 6, 3, immune). It used to last its full duration, and it was easy to root the enemy, casually get your heals off, then attack them again when you're ready.

Also, this spell can break on its own damage, and does so very often against crits especially.

Most mobs that can use this spell have an overpowered version of it. It even works in caves for them, while you can not.

In pvp this, in theory, looks very overpowered. Root a warrior and he can't come near you at all. Put another dot on him to kill him slowly.

Actually, with 1200 spelldamage and Brambles this move could cause quite some damage.

351 * (1.575*1200) * 1.75 (Brambles) = 3921 damage!

Yeah you can use it indoors = cc for druids in groups, witch is actually quite nice, a feral tank can cc a melee as a ranged pulling tool, or think about this: cc a healer and get the mobs out of healing range

Though it won't have any immediate effect on casters, remember that you can still do this during the pull in an instance and the tank (whoever that may be) can just pull the mobs around a corner (if possible) to perform the age old LOS trick.

You have to consider that this is a very powerful spell because it effects demons, beasts, dragonkin, humanoids, undead, etc.

Where as polymorph, shackle, banish, seduction, and the others all have limitations on who you can cast them on, caster type mob or not.

This spell is awesome-o now. The only problem is the heart beat chance it'll break, but that runs along with most CC types.

It always seemed pretty dumb that roots could not be used in caves, houses and other ground based indoor areas. Now... Mobs beware! I can now use my outdoor strat indoors. Great upgrade.

As a balance druid when i kill mobs 1 at a time i can usually kill them before they get me.

Root/MF/IS -> Starfire -> Wrath spam from max range (Or starfire its on low enough hp to get killed by it or the first one proc'd stun)

Entangling roots, believe it or not does benefit from spell power...its spell power coefficient is 10% per tick.

Doesn't ayone think that it has a damage but it has a chance of freeing the rooted when taking damage?
They should really fix this since it is just so lame.
OK. First u root ur target, move away and then start using starfire for the nice critts :D
With Nature's Grasp(and improved) u get roots to the next one who attacks u and with no castingtime.

Only bad part is you cant use indoors but atleast there's no cooldown rly/Im lvl 50 FULL feral and I dunno if I can out-heal a holy priest,*never had a heal fight comparison before and my priest is a real low lvl but I do heal great anyways and I've been complimented that I heal better than some resto druids *I can see why at times*but ya,and tanking part If I get enough heals off I may be able to beat a Warr,maybe that heal over time bear spell.It's just how you play =),your greatness depends on your dedication to your guy.

Mainly twink rogues, but sometimes other classes... Roots lasts less than a second on the bastards (when it's not resisted entirely)

What possible enchant/talent could be causing that?

More Importantly, what can the twink druid do to improve the penetration?

At higher lvls (such as 38) it lasts for 21 seconds, most people don't have much or any nature resist, so its not uncommon for it to last at least 15 seconds. Entangling roots is useful against:

-Warriors obviously because they can't reach them.
-Pally's unless they're smart enough to use blessing of freedom.
-Rogues because they cant hit you.
-Warlocks because if you root them at more than 20 yards they can't fear you.
-Shamans because they can't use their shocks and their totems don't effect you.
-Feral druids because entangling roots costs much less than them switching forms to get out.
-Hunters if you put yourself between 5 yrds (melee
range) and 8 yards (bow range). If you can hibernate the pet, and entangle them there, they can't do anything to you.

However, priets and mages (as well as warlocks with felhunters) will usually win everytime if you're balance. Priets can remove faerie fire, entangling roots, moonfire, insect swarm and any other magic effect from them and you (which includes heal over times). Mages out damage you, but if you can make them burn all their mana by healing yourself you can blow them up with starfire. Make sure you entangle mages too because their blink costs quite a bit of mana.

So ya entangling rotos isn't bad at all. But note my strategies and suggestions are really only for balance druids.

Edit: I forgot to mension that crits DON'T always bring the enemy out of roots, it's just a very big chance. Also, starfire doesn't always break them out of roots, nor does wrath or moonfire. I've also noticed the DoTs with insect swarm, moonfire and entangling roots don't give them a chance to break out.

its fun to try and duel people as thyey get off the boat from booty bay or ratchet, if they accept i run into the water, they usally follow me, i swim to the floor and then entangle root them. i kill lvl 40 sometimess as i keep them entangled until they run out of breaf and drown. if i start to get low breaf i go seal and recharge it. lol =P
this also kool bcuz the guards dont attck u cuz u dueling.

i think the dot of the roots dose let them free because i root some mob as a way of cc them and they brack out of i to fast and some time i am low on health so i root them get back and heal and like a sec after i root them they brack out and kill me!

Rogues and warriors get owned by this, and ty for the other tips, the fear thing, but I've been using the hunter thing, only thing is BM hunters at 40-50 can enrage their pet, so no hibernate, and at 50+ they enrage themselves too! then we're sitting ducks.

Druids are notoriously weak when they begin, but this spell can make your life a lot easier. This method burns a lot of mana but also keeps you from dying in situations you might not be able to handle yourself. I recently started an alliance druid and found that very simple quests were difficult, even fighting one target at a time. So here's what I came up with...

1. Roots
2. Moonfire
3. Wrath, wrath, wrath, ect
4. Target breaks--moonfire
5. Melee (by this point they should go down in one to two hits)

If the target breaks early toss another moonfire on it. Its health should be less than 40% and you may be able to use moonfire and melee to finish it off. You can also use the talent nature's grasp to root your target again if it breaks.
