It has been confirmed Dragon's Breath will not break on ignite procs, or fireball dots (or even Pyroblast dots at that matter). This is the 41 talent point for fire mages.

After using DB last night I'm going to have to say it's pretty much a useless talent. It's basically a fire version of cone of cold and since they share the same cooldown it's kind of pointless. Yes, you get a short duration stun debuff but it's so short it's not worth the trouble. There's not enough time to get off another spell to make it worth your while. Possibly the rank 3 and 4 versions may be more effective but we won't know until the expansion is released.

Agreed with ansepheth. I'm a shaman, and while duelling a fire specced mage who asked me to test out his Dragon's Breath, I found out that my grounding totem wouldn't stop this spell (but then again it can't stop Cone of Cold either, so that was pretty pointless).

And mind you, you can pull off a polymorph in those 3 seconds while he's stunned. Yes, you'll be healing him, but that's just another spell you can pull from your book to use against your enemy. Depends on your playing strategy.

Personally, I find this spell to be awesome in both PvE and PvP.

In PvE, I've used this for another spot of damage to finish off a mob while Fire Blast was down. Plus, this becomes very mana efficient with two or three mobs on you, as it stuns all of them, provided you face the things you're fighting. That stun opens up a head start wen running, a flamestrike for more fun, or many other things. My second favorite spell, topped only by Scorch. The fact that it's instant makes Fire Mages the absolute AoE kings with Blast Wave and the like.

In PvP, it's a stun, an interrupt, and a decent damager all in one. Use it when your frost nova's on cooldown! Use it when your Counterspell's on cooldown! Use it to make your opponents say "OMG he's Fire!" before you deliver a fireball crit to his face!

Hell, I use this thing in RP. Why light a candle with a small flame when you can impress your friend by igniting the whole table? Get out of interrogation with a Breath in the face followed by Invis!

My GOD I love this spell.

This is actually pretty sweet for PVE mages too that are hitting up Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep. Alot of fights in those dungeons require AOE from Mages and Warlocks. This is ideal if things start to go south, it stuns them just long enough for an AOE taunt to pick them up, or for another wave of AOE to kill them.

This is actually a pretty great spell. It does about the same, if maybe a little less damage than fireball. Also, it renders your opponent harmless for a few seconds. I typically use this advantage to use evocation, bandages, and potions. On top of that, it does the same damage to all units in front of it, making it a great AoE attack.

Another slight PvE use:

In some situations, like grouping with the guy new to tanking, or you happen to make the mistake of aggroing something you shouldn't have, this is a decent "Oh sh**!" button. It gives enough time for someone to yell "aggro!" and have the tank run back and pick it up.

If you've got the talent point to spare (I moved a point from Frost Channeling in my FFB build), it's a handy thing to have, even for raiding mages. It's also a bit more predictable than aiming a Blast Wave knockback.

I'm a new mage and I sadly learned that only frost mages get water elemental. And that is their 41 point talent. So I'm like ok, then my 41-pointer will be just as cool. When I ding 50, I get excited to see what I can learn, and this is it...bummer.

BTW, when I level a new spec, I don't look ahead to talents I can't learn yet, just for excitement's sake.

Unlimited amount of helpful situations this spell applies to. For the few (but respected imo) players that play fire in PvP: USE THIS ON MORE THAN ONE PERSON AND WHENEVER IT'S UP... I can't stress enough how helpful it is to get a full fireball off when theyre incapacitated when your usual attack is scorch-n-run. Dont be afraid to hit more than one person.. You can consider this a CC in some cases

Seeing allot of hate here :p
couple of things to keep in mind:

You need it for Living Bomb, so you should get it anyway :p
It disorients, so its great for kiting as fire or to interupt spellcasts
The disorient effect is long enough so you can get a pyroblast in (if you start casting it as soon as the GCD is up)
Its yet another AOE, a good one too seeing as the damage aint that bad

Enough reasons to get it methinks :D

I've noticed this seem to drop combat sometimes, possibly when I've managed to hit mobs that I hadn't otherwise attacked. Can anyone confirm?

Well to bad for you, death coil aint an AoE atack. The day you can Death coil mutiple enemies in front of you (horrors day) it will own this spell.

Dragon's Breath > deathcoil anyday,

ive critted a group of allies today in EOS for 2k each like 4-5 ppl and they burned for another 800 from ignite 2800? compare that to deathcoil... so what if deathcoil heals

i can aoe 5-10 mobs of same lvl with this spell

just mount ride and grab mobs than unmount and Cone of Cold, than Nova and wait for 2-3 sec, than flamestrike, back off abit and wait 2-3 sec untill ignite wears off, than blast wave and arcane explosion few times, by than they should be below 20% =extra 20% dmg for dragons breath (molten fury)should finish them off, if not use arcane explosion... indeed best fire spell in the game

now the biggest downside for this spel is that it shares cooldown with Cone of cold, this is why u should always start off with CoC 1st, because its only 10 sec cooldown than DB cooldown will be 10sec, if u fire off DB 1st ull end up on 20 sec cooldown and wont be able to use CoC for 20sec.

I am thinking of switching over to arcane/fire once I hit level 70. Since you only get 61 talent points, Do you think it's better to get this or Presence of Mind?

I've seen countless of clashes front to front with the Horde in AV. (being alliance.) Tons of players clustered. And this made me reroll a mage.

To be effective in AV, with my mindset. I'd go Dragon's Breath with Arcane Impact and Arcane Meditation. This spec also works with AoE grinding.

To literally NUKE people in WSG, I'd go PoM/Pyro... It has a hidden proc to make the EFC reroll, or make another char and flame you.

For PvP-server-encounters, I wouldn't know. If you are fine with the idea of being screwed when fighting more than two players.. Ok.. Else the heavy AoE build from AV might come in handy. Yet 1vs1 or 1vs2(with polymorph) makes you wanna get in a dangerous PoMPyro..

Conclusion: We hate/love variety. :)

This spell can take some practice to get the aim right. I noticed that if you turn while your casting, the DB will turn with you. Maybe you can hit more enemies that way? I havn't tried yet.

The day Death Coil ebcomes, AoE, I'll kill Bliz. 'Locks are allready over powered enuf, but with an AoE Death Coil allowing them to gain back a @#$% load of HP at once? It's gay. Dragon's Breath > Death Coil any day every day.

ok that's what it does. check this out now

"lousy" 0.5 sec cast

(they both got 20 sec cooldown)
if u look that way dragon's breath seem the best choice of course.BUT dragons breath got 1.5 sec global cooldown(like most spells)
and if u are a 70 lock with heavy destro u know that shadowfury only got 0.5 sec global cooldown.
so after 1.5 sec when only 1.5 sec of the disoriontation remains THEN they can cast spells.

shadowfury got 0.5 sec global cooldown and lucky 0.5 sec cast time. so the stun last 2 sec and immediately you can cast spells.
and stun is more better than disorientation cuz the stun wont cancel when it gets attacked like disorientation.PLUS do you really want to get near the mobs then use it or stay back and attack from a safe distance?

this is the best instant cast spell in the game im a lvl 54 fire mage and mine does on a regular basis 600-700 damage and with combustion is on i crit for 800-900 damage

My mage does this...He does a total damage of up to 8K...

Firstly with all his Spell damage...

I get up to 3K Criticals counting Spell damage and talents...Then around 1.5K Damage from Ignite and then I just Blast Wave and most things are dead...
