Screech is an excellent pet ability for keeping a swarm of enemies attacking your pet rather than attacking you or your party. It also doubles as a good taunting ability.

For the Horde hunters to get an owl over the bat:

1. Make the run from Barrens to Ashenvale

2. Follow the road thru Ashenvale to Darkshore (swim the lake south of Astranaar to bypass the town)

3. Follow the road all the way up to just south of Auberdine. When you get just South of Auberdine, run out to coast and swim around to the North leg of the Auberdine docks (the South dock goes to Menethil Harbor).

4. As soon as the boat to Teldrassil docks, swim beneath the ship and drown yourself. Release to Graveyard.

5. Run from the graveyard just North of Auberdine out onto the dock and board the ship - resurrect on the ship.

6. Just before the ship docks at Teldrassil, jump off the ship and swim to the far left side of Rut Theran Village.

7. Stay against the cliff wall and run past the first building till you see a straight shot to the dome with the purple haze. Usually there is two guards and a patrol in front of it. Do a banzai rush for the dome (you will probably die again here, if you don't, skip to #9).

8. Release to graveyard (North of Auberdine), run back to ship, board the ship, get off at Rut Theran dock, run up the path to the dome and resurrect just as you're running into the dome. If you don't time it right, you will teleport to Darnassus as a ghost and will have to turn around and go back thru the dome at Darnassus to Rut Theran and try again.

9. When you appear in Darnassus alive you will be probably be killed immediately by the guards. Release and you will appear at the graveyard in Dolanaar. Resurrect at the graveyard (you can wait for a few minutes to lose the PVP status if on a normal server).

10. Stay South of town and run around to the West to circle around Dolanaar to the road (watch for the patrols). Cross to the North side of the road and run West along the hills till you see Wellspring Lake. Around it you should find Strigid Hunters up to level 9. Train your pet.

This can be done at level 10 solo, I have done it solo and with escort multiple times.

Does this ability stack with demoralizing shout or roar ? Because the shouts have a greater AP reduction, so they might prevent the use of this skill.

As far as I can tell, the lowest level you can learn this spell for your pet is level 16 from the greater fleshrippers in Westfall :/ I tried it at level 10 while I was getting an Owl, and the lower level birds in Westfall didn't know the ability.

Of course, if I'm wrong please let me know so I can go learn it! =)

Screech is awesome skill for leveling.

Not only it lowers damage taken by pet from melee mobs around it but also generate additional aoe threat. If you have problem with pet aggro this skill will be salvation for you. Also because it is aoe it will prevent from getting healing aggro from mend pet when you pull multiple mobs.

Screech is not so good in places like Blackfathom Deeps, where there are lots of neutral elite critters since it will aggro them and your solo fight will get out of control. Remember to turn it off in these situations.

I'm debating running to lochmodan/redridge for one (like the skins better there)
tho its a lot of work... maybe I'll grab the easiest and tide over till gorilla

I'm *really* looking for AoE aggro, but early levelling maybe I need the damage to hold it first

Grabbed a carrion bird from Desolace, and so far it's working great. This ability makes it easier to go against several melee mobs due to the AoE damage reduction, so solo pulls are much easier.

As of patch 4.0.1
This is the only special ability that does DMG (but only on paper)
After testing it it appears that it does not do ANY dmg at all.
However it costs 20 focus to use (also the only special ability that costs focus)

I expect this ability to change in 4.0.3

This is being changed on the Cata beta to function just like a bear's Demoralizing Roar (though without the range bug currently affecting bears).

It'll be interesting to try soloing with a carrion bird now - they're ferocity, so they should be putting out decent DPS (and therefore aggro), but they'll have a tanking skill.

This is a good filler ability for groups with warrior, druid and paladin tanks. Warriors have to pop have to keep Demoralizing Shout up manually (which is a pain sometimes), same for druid Demoralizing Roar and paladins don't really have anything at all.

So if you really want to do your tank a favour, tame/use a carrior bird.

Actually, paladin tanks will have the Vindication talent which is part of their normal rotation, being refreshed every 3 seconds or so. As Vindication lasts 30s, the Carrion Bird debuff will generally not be applied to the tank's target. In addition, paladins can maintain Judgements of the Just as part of their normal rotation, so using a fox for Tailspin isn't helpful to them either.

On the other hand, Deathknights may well appreciate not having to maintain full uptime of their diseases (which will spare them the runes to spend on additional Death Strikes)

So this pet ability is useful for deathknight tanks (who stand to save runes for other attacks), warrior tanks (who can use a different shout, or not have to use shout at all, saving them rage) and feral druids (who can use the rage for other attacks also).

By allowing your tank to spend his resources on high threat, high damage abilities, the dps is less likely to become threat-capped themselves, and the fight becomes shorter.

For 19 twink hunters, this and the raptor's tear are the only 2 specials that you can get before level 20, so make sure to have a carrion bird and a raptor to be truely maxed.

I got a bat and its Ressan the Needler. and I have a problem, I don't know how to teach it screech and I also don't know what lvl to make it learn! Can someone tell me how to make it learn it.

My pet finnaly learns screech! If people wants their pet to learn screech rank 1 but i dont know how to teach it screech rank 2 but anyways to teach the pet screech rank 1, u have to tame a lvl 17-18 bird things at westfall and make it last long untill u learn the ability to teach ur pet screech but its worth it for my troll hunter to teach my pet screech cuz ever since i had that ability i was pwning Eitrigg Server WSG lvl 10-19!

To get Screech (rank 1), you need to tame a "Greater Fleshripper" from Westfall, it has Screech already, now just make it use it enough times for you to learn it. Once you've learned it, you can teach it to another pet you might get later (If it meets the Requirement to learn it).

Now, getting Screech (rank 2), is nothing it just learns itself, you'll have to either, place it in the stables or abandon it. The Carrion Birds able to teach Screech (rank 2) are:

- Dread Ripper (39-40, Desolace)
- Salt Flats Vulture (32-34, Thousand Needles)

So, these two Carrion Birds can teach Screech 2.

Yah i know what u mean, im Nelf and i cant find out how to get screech and i have a owl, says lvl 8 but i got nothing...

Just because you get a Carrion Bird type pet at lvl 8 doesn't mean they will have the "Screech" ability. The only way to teace a pet Screech rank 1 is to tame a "Greater Fleshripper" from Westfall then once you get a message in chat saying you've learned "Teach Ability: Screech (rank 1)" after about 5-6 mob kills you can then abandon that pet and get your owl out and teach him it.

Its says bats get screech too, but my bat is lvl 29 and still hasnt learned it. Is it a specific kind of bat?

-.- they don't ever LEARN an ability...they have it or they dont, YOU have to teach them stuff you get from other creatures that already have the ability.

If your bat hasnt got screech, go tame a fleshripper in Westfall and get Screech from that.

Does Screech also stack with warrior or bears shout? if anyone have tryed it could be a very nice information. if an enemy get the attack power decrease from warrior and from the pet the enemy will get very little attack power. Hope anyone know and can answer me

I have done my best to provide Map Mouseovers for each and every beast, wherever possible!
