I wonder what posible use this can have. In order to have any efffect, you'll need at least 4 combo points, and to get those before being able to stun an opponent for 5-6 seconds before turning to another target really seems useless.

Or am I missing something?

There are several ways to use this spell. The first thing that you need to see is that it simply doesn't do poor damage. On my decently geared 62 druid, I get 1k+ crits on cloth. The other incredible part of the spell is that DOTs continue ticking without breaking it.

This allows you to load up pounce - mangle - rake - moonfire - (insect swarm?) and THEN maim. The damage of maim combined with the DOTs ticking can finish your enemy off very quickly with minimal damage to you.

The other use of this spell as a druid is to use it to transition to another form. Maim + root - heal will be very viable.

this is a GREAT transition move, kind of like bash for bearform. plenty of time for a heal or two and time to shapeshift again.

If you can manage it as a lot of rogues do, in pvp, a 5 pt mangle, deselect target and restealth...pounce all over again. (This is really dependant on how fast you get out of combat in your server)

Not your damaging finisher. Bite and rip are for that. This has 3 uses
1. Spell interuption
2. "stun" for a shift heal
3. limited stun lock (no KS like rogues but we aren't rogues).

In PvE yes it takes ~10 seconds to get out of combat, but in PvP it only takes 5 seconds of none direct(?) damage towards the target to get you out of combat. Effectivly you could get a 5 combo point Maim up wait behind the target for 5 secs, stealth, wait for GCD (1.5secs?) and pounce, rince and repeat. Hopefully that's correct because it would be amazing in theory.

It is indeed possible to drop combat and restealth in PvP encounters. you don't even need a max amount of combo points.

For Feral Druids:

Just Pounce->Mangle-> Shred(if OoC)-> Maim and drop your target and start running.

You will leave combat around the time they are getting out of maim.

Restealth and repeat as much as possible.

Just to clarify what a lot of people seem to be confused by:

Stun: Target cannot move or perform any action, and continues to take damage for the duration of the effect.

Incapacitate: Target cannot move or perform any action, but any damage taken will revive the target.

Maim is not a stun. If you don't like the word "Incapacitate", call it a gouge instead, because it's exactly the same effect.

With the Season 3 Arena feral gloves (not yet on wowhead), Maim can interrupt spell casting and prevent any spell from that school from being cast for 3 seconds.

yes it can, like ferocious bite can. and, i believe, every melee attack that deals immediate damage can crit. for example, rake can crit, but shred can't.

If you notice it doesn't say anymore that dots will not break the effect... So its a nerf..

What is the point of gauge finisher when anything can break it

By what I heard from the Beta Testers on the druid forums, the effect is REAL HARD to break. They also said they couldn't break it yet, even trying hard. This could be a bug, however.

This ability is in line for some changes! Quote from Beta forum:

Maim will break from the same amount of damage that Fear, Entangling Roots etc. breaks with now. It's a flat amount of damage based on the HP pool of the target (its' different for players and creatures), we haven't settled on the right number yet though.

Did anybody even think about the ability to get off another Shred with this move?

Pounce > Mangle > Shred > Shred (OoC) > Mangle / Rake / Maim (if OoC Shred was used) > Maim > Shred

If OoC procs on the Maim, awesome. But even if it doesn't, if you time it right, you can have just enough energy to get off a Shred and hopefully finish. The bleed from the Pounce / Rake won't break it, so you still do good damage while waiting for the energy tick. This move is basically a rogue's Kidney Shot + Eviscerate in one move, except it's not as damaging as Eviscerate, and it doesn't have the "break on nothing" ability that Kidney Shot does, but it's still an awesome move and IMO better than Rip. Also, can anyone confirm if this turns your attack off?

Hmm... "The victim's spellcasting is also interrupted for 3 sec."

How would that work?

eg.:
1.) You have 1 combo-point.. Maim!... Stunned for 2 sec, and 1 sec additional "silenced"?

2.) You have 4 combo-points.. Maim!... Stunned for 5 Sec... And no silence, since that only counts for the first 3 sec.?

I don't suppose it's added to the stun? =

3.) 4 combo-points.. Maim!... Stunned for 5 Sec... THEN here after 3 sec. "silence"?

Coz that would be kinda imba...

WoTLK Beta shows this ability working just like a Kidney shot for a rogue. Maim the target and stun them and keep wailing on them without breaking stun.

In BC maim interrupt part was added to PVP gloves - and has PVP proporse to use this ability to kill healers with some one's help becouse any direct dmg removed maim or without stoping to DPS them... Now it's looks for me like interrupt effect added to bash (3sec interrupt with 4-5sec stun) and have a PVE interrupting proporse on bosses and mobs that have immune for the second effect (incapacitates and stuns)..

I was actually thinking that the following combo will be viable in PvE aka grinding/questing:

Pounce -> default feral druid procedures -> mangle if the duration of the debuff is less than 6 seconds -> maim -> wait for the last debuff second -> shred -> mangle.

Or the Ferocious Bite as a finisher would be better? :)

Maim is really good to use on most casters in pvp (prove me if im wrong), because it interrupts spell cast and incapacitates. For example, if you use this on a mage they cannot blink for the first 3 sec. if your a rogue and kidneyshot a mage, they still can blink. Right now, ive been killing mages pretty easily :D

I use this more often than any other finishing move in leveling or grinding. If you open with pounce and follow with maim with 4 or 5 CP that you should have already, you can generally kill a mob with taking at the most one hit, if any at all. This = no downtime.

3.1 patchnotes incase someone missed
Maim now stuns the target instead of incapacitate
a good change and a bad change same time
good is that its gonna be great in duels and and most situations in arena, u can unload dps and not be afreight that Maim will break on dmg, bad is that it will share DR with other stunts, will have to play smart and avoid that, (and rem not to maim mages anymore)

hopefully this change will go live. finally ability that i will use more often in arena, i usualy use maim just for interupts.

Hi,
i'd like to introduce an idea that might solve a few of our problems.
Some ferals complain about shred's pos requrirement, but maybe the ability would just be too op if they removed it, and i dont want the feral to become an other utilitiyless class with insane burst that people just whine about (aka ret).
So here is the idea:
Claw should get a 10 sec CD whith a 3 sec lockout effect (off GCD off course), the whole thing could be added to a high level feral combat talent so that it could remain a DPS ability at low levels (above Leader of the Pack, a good
candidate could be Predatory Instincts). They could raise the Maim cooldown to 20 sec like Kidney Shot hell, even 30, i don't mind, or they could just put it on the same cooldown with Claw.
I think we just deserve a crappy off GCD off CP interrupt like all the other classes (except rets). I'm just tired of being unique in watching the healers castbar helplessly raising.
Thx for reading and if you like the idea then just keep it alive, spread it everywhere.

Also, since they nerfed Rend and Tear to the ground and we are the only spec with 2 51 pointers
(the feral tree is very bloated and this way would become even more) they could change it to a 3 rank talent.

Prowl, Pounce, Mangle, Rake, Tiger's Fury for 60 free energy w/ talents, Maim, Mangle, Bear Form, Enrage, Maul, Bash (another stun), Cat form (Will have 100 energy when you have 5/5 Furor talent, Mangle, (They will now be free of stuns),Rake, Maim (stunned again) - Should now be very close to death, do whatever you see fit :)

As with Cheap Shot-Kidney Shot. Maim now shares DR with Pounce.

Not sure when this change happened but before, they were on a different type of CC DR; CS and Pounce were considered "opener stuns" whilst KS and Pounce were regular stuns along with Hammer of Justice, Charge, Shadowfury and friends.

As the poster prievious to me has stated, this is, effectively, the druid gouge, but it COSTS combo points, rather than giving them. So it's effectively the druid gouge and the druid cheap-shot, with the ill-effects of both (damage revives, costs combo points). Would make a welcome edition to the druid repitore.

I just got this, and I decided to Macro it to Pounce because both abilities "stun" (I know Maim is incomp).

Basically, it uses Pounce when stealthed and Maim when unstealthed. It's perfect.

I am glad for this ability! This finally allows druids to spell interrupt! how many times i was trying to kill a priest or shammy that was healing faster than i could deal damage... (ok i did not have a great gear, but still!)

yes i was talking about in pvp, in pve and grooups cat form is ok but its way to easy for other classes to kill you have to jump out to heal every couple sec

This along with blood frenzy is a deadly combo, I have 30+ percent chance to crit and add combo points like crazy. Adding two combo points with every special move crit ensures that the target will stay stunned for longer. Incredibly useful talent. Even if you only have one point on them, its very useful to stop spellcasting.

Some cool killing tactic

This requires the Omen of Clarity talent + Mangle.

Tigers Fury ---wait for 90-100 energy---> Pounce -->Mangle--->Shred

If Omen of Clarity doesn't proc you have a broken stunlock, but after 2 or so seconds you can maim / ferocious bite. If it DOES proc, it goes like this:

Tigers Fury ---wait for 90-100 energy---> Pounce -->Mangle--->Shred--->(Instant)Maim--->Tigers Fury--->Shred.

On my 63 Druid (1.4k AP) I killed a 65 Hunter before he could do anything with using this combination... Everything critted Ofc.

Druids can stunlock! GG!

edit: Oh and also, if it's a plate wearer, you'd want to:

pounce --> mangle --> rake--->maim ---> root----> nuke at distance with starfire ---> go bear and feral charge -> etc

The thing about that is most rogues use gouge to get behind or away from something so if you were a druid you would have to claw rake ext in order to do this cuase it uses cps but rogues type gives you cps.

6 secs I belive is not enough time to restealth and Ravage.
But since damage revives the target I ussally Pounce Mangle rip and rake gives me around 4-5 depending where u spec and i jus u this and the bleed damage still goes without Reviving the but 6 secs is enought time to gain enough energy to do another Shred which can be deadly to clothys or people with low health.

WATCH OUT LOCKS! lol, anyone know how much damage this does at lvl 62? can anybody test it out then tell me what damage they got from it? those formula type things confuse me. a Great stratedgy with this is have a rake and a mangle on the target then maim him, let the rake tick away while ur energy regens and then get 84 energy for 2 shreds right before person gets out of stun.

Does anyone know if this turns off your attack like gouge? cuz that would suck if you used this then u get that really quick autohit in to immediatly revive the maimed person.

edit: for those curious as to what maim looks like, its your two claws slashing in an X shape then the purple ring flys around above the maimed player showing they're stunned, just like sap or gouge.

edit: ok i figured this should average around 500-700 dmg, which is about 200 below a 5 cp ferocious bite at the same lvl.

This is how u can Stunlock with druid...need to have omen of clarity ofc:

Pounce+Mangle+shred+shred+maim+pounce+mangle+shred+shred...

It works...sometimes if u crit atleast once

I have a different stunlock developed. Anyways, Pounce, mangle, shred, Go into bear and build up rage, bash, back into cat. If u have furor then u can immediatly start on another mangle or shred if u like then maim once person gets out of bash. build energy and do 2 shreds when u can then person should be dead or near dead, if not then FB andi f that crits their dead! lol. Works like a charm! Don't useagainstl ocks tho cuz they will fear or deathcoil u if u go bear. This works well against a shadow priest, hunter, warrior, another druid (especially balance), and i haven't tried on shaman yet....

lol heck no, druid needs a stun in cat.... badly, besides if your victim to this its probably because the person needs to heal, just insignia, stop the druids heal and there u have it, ifi ts part of a stunlock? well ur gonna have to develope ur own counter to that =Þ

With all the talk of stunlocking I'm surprised no one mentions maim then heal. I know we have barkskin but in pvp a lot of classes can stop your heal (counterspell, kick, etc) but if you maim then switch to caster you can get back a lot of health before they can do anything. At 70 add a cyclone if needed.

As a level 63 with mainly quest reward gear (1400AP) this does ~650 damage with 5 combo points. FB does about 950 damage but the 6 seconds of incapacitation and the fact that it doesnt kill all of my energy make this more useful in most situations. And mages cant blink out of it :D

Things to know:

Maim cancels auto-attack. If not......what would be the use for this?

From my calculations the damage is roughly 20% lower than ferocious bite.

This would be great to use then get around and shred.

Also great when you have low health. Use, switch out, healx2.

And thats pretty much what I remember.....oh ya! It pwns.

Oh and the combo for Warrior bleed stun lock is, Pownce-mangle-rake-rip then mangle-mangle-mangle-rake then Maim... wait till the maim is almost up or until the rake is about to fade then use your pownce and do it all over again... feel free to add more rake or rip to the combo if needed this is a great bleed stun lock since against high armor ppl direct damaging moves are kinda unefficient.

If this goes in-game, it will be the calling for cat users, having an in-battle stun will change the way we feral players play completely.

could be internal servers indeed and the level 6 is for testing purposes on their internal realms...

or somebody is having fun with the database here and submitting a fake new skill for druids...
But somehow going as far as creating a icon to go with it and then screw up the level requirement that badly just sounds wrong...

Its a Rank 1 spell that you learn at lvl 6. You dont get cat form until lvl 20 so its fake.

Agreed, sweet if its actually out there (which I doubt) and if it were, dont you think we'd see it already in spell learning when we go to level? Unless of course, its one of those "only level 6 can enter" and you can't get it otherwise...

Somebody make a new char & go search for it as soon as you reach lvl 6! Give me a report as to how much time you waste looking for it before you gave up.
