I wonder if my friend knows about the charges. He started a blood elf paladin, and decided to protection spec him after he found out the mass-killing capabilities. 4 charges, 10 sec cooldown, he'll run through those charges as soon as he casts it.

Don't let anyone tell you differently...

For any aspiring Tankadin, it is our most versatile and potent tool in our arsenal. Increased blocking, fair damage, and increased threat generation all rolled into one spell for a low casting cost.

It's not the best for DPS when you're running around leveling up, but if you do face 2+ mobs at once, you can easily expect to run out of charges before the timer is up, making it exceedingly useful in those situations.

very nice, pull 4-6 mobs, use holy shield, aura of retribution, blessing of sanctuary, judgement of mana and seal of light, then just loot :)

this is what the prot guy needs.(of course)

So basicly the average blocking rate for someone to have is about 6%

u have a 10% chance when hit to proc redoubt which will give you +30% chance of blocking
36%
and now u have this which u can use any time for +30% blocking
36%
or if redoubt and this - 66% chance of blocking (DAMN!)

so what happens if u block - they take 59 dmg
and of course since you are prot u most likely have blessing of sanctuary to help - 21 dmg
and maybe a mithril spike on your shield (they help out alot and are kinda easy to make.) chance of 16-20 per block
blessingOS + holy shield - 80 per block
blessingOS + holy shield + mithril spike 96-100 dmg block

and you might have on ret aura on so that would be another 12 to that dmg

u dealing big dmg just holding up your shield - I love it

at first u get 4 charges with 59 dmg each but they just added the new cool talent that impoves holy shield. This will increase dmg by 20% and double the charges so it would look like

Increases chance to block by 30% for 10 sec and deals 71 Holy damage for each attack blocked while active. Damage caused by Holy Shield causes 35% additional threat. Each block expends a charge. 8 charges.

pretty cool - even increases threat each block to help tank

so imp holy shield +BoS + mithril spike + ret aura = 71+21+(16-20)+ 12 = 104(holy dmg - this will really help with tanking with righteous fury buff) or 120-124 dmg block when mithril spike procs when blocking

yea its a lot to read but i like the numbers of it all.

EDIT: oops - when u block parry or dodge, it doesn't count as a hit so ret aura doesn't proc so nvm about the ret aura

Here's how it works best for the leveling and mass damage.... FYI At level 50 I was downing 5 to 6 level 50 to 52s at the same time.

You need 3 things 1 Holy Shield, 2 Reckoning, 3 the right combination of seals and judgments. Retribution aura helps too.
First you gotta judge your main target with Light or Wisdom and fire away popping Holy Shield as often as possible. If you judge Wisdom use Light seal and swap them back and forth as needed. You can also use Wisdom with a Wisdom judgment or Light with Light... this works especially well when Reckoning procs.

The idea behind this just as some have touched upon in posts above is when your blocks get burned your pushing out damage and taking less damage. When your taking damage your procing Reckoning. And when your procing Reckoning with a Light on Light judge and seal or Wisdom on Wisdom your collecting large portions of mana or health back. Throw in a few Consecrates and by time target one drops your other 4 are below 75% health maybe lower. Just try it before saying anything....

And Blizzard better not nerf this *!@# once people find out how well it works.

ok i hit lvl 40 and i went to pally trainer in IF and the spell wasnt there im a holly spec by the way so can someone plz tell me how do i get spell?

Here's waht you do!

1: Mount up and gather some mobs
2: cast seal of light, judge it, and recast it
3: Pop up Holy shield
4: When the judged mob ies, rejudge another mob, and recast seal of Light.
Cast Holy Shield whenever u want to to speed up the kills.

Try to not use consecration as it's mostly a waste of mana, unless u have a huge mana pool!

Recknoning needed, Blessing of Sanctuary, Redoubt, shield specc and maybe imp. Righteus Fury. and Holy shield ofc. pretty much a full prot tree.

does +holy dmg effect this spell. i know crusader aura on the target does. It seems that + dmg would increase the dmg caused when u block.

i love this spell. imo probably the best tanking spell pallys get. when redoubt procs and with some +defense rating gear i block pretty much ever attack coming at me. great for holding aggro on multiple mobs

no, its not good to just use this when rebout procs. To be honest I thought the same thing but I was wrong. Holy shield is what you use to build agro besides Con if don't always use this u will miss out on alot alot alot of threat and if u have a good dpser u will lose agro very easily and since you burned all your mana on Con u can't font load the lost threat back. So its best to always keep this up at ALL times to maxamize tps and overAll better tanking

The ability is quite relevant to this day, especially in dungeons, where mobs deal significantly higher damage than when pumping through quests(source)
