i am not sure but i would think it would work against a bm hunters pet when it goes into a "bestial rage," and therefore mos bm hunters go 1 talent further to get themselves "enraged" and maybe it will un"enrage" the hunter once u tranq shot the pet?? i havent been able to try it out though

I have to say, this is the most worthless ability Hunter's have. it has no PvP application, and only VERY limited PvE application, since only a very few mobs ever Frenzy. It would be a much better ability if instead of removing a Frenzy effect it just applied the opposite effect, slowing attack speed for a period of time, and worked like a sting instead. But that could make Hunters OP...

Regarding anti druid berserk, I'd like to see an answer on this as well.

If it can, it's fairly strange, it's like twisting the knife when comparing hunters to feral druids in pvp.
A well played hunter will at any time outplay a druid regardless of whatever the druids level skill is.
That in itself is just fine every class has its anti classes, but it shouldn't be an automatic victory against feral druids just because they have an ability that removes our 3 minute CD.

Can anyone give me a definitive - Yes or No - answer to whether or not Patchwerk (Naxxramus) can have his Frenzy removed by a hunter using Tranquilizing Shot?

Please no conjecture, please hunters only reply whether you have been able to dispel Frenzy on Patchwerk, "Yes, I tried it, and it immediately removed the Frenzy" or "No, I tried it, it was not resisted, it just doesn't work."

Great way to be able CC those pesky Defias Envokers in Deadmines. This and a Shaman's Purge remove their Shield. If you can time it right, follow with a Freezing Trap.

I hear this is a good choice for tagging a pet after you place a frost trap as it does no damage and it turns off auto-attack, can someone verify this for me, I want to know what I should use to tag Loque'nahak when my hunter hits 76 and I start hunting for him.

If I remember correctly once the beast are affected by your traps it will be tagged as your target. Anyway, if you need to tag it with a shot then use Distracting Shot, since it causes no damage and stop your Auto-Shot (guarantee).
From blue post:
"Casting Trap Launcher, Distracting Shot, and Scare Beast now cancel Auto Shot when cast. This is to make it easier to crowd control creatures with Auto Shot while moving enabled."

Also, Loque'nahak is a rare spawn, thus he's tougher than most of the mobs, so you don't really need to worry about killing him before Taming finish. Instead, you should worry about the other way around, since he hits quite hard.

Would be thankful to hear an answer if this used to have, has, or will have any dispel priorities when there's more than one beneficial magic effect on the target. For example, if it's target is a Mage with Arcane Intellect and Ice Barrier, or a Priest with a stamina buff or some sort of short duration buff, which increases damage/survivability slightly and Power Word: Shield, would this ALWAYS dispel the Ice Barrier/Power Word: Shield first, and the other buff only if there's no "important" or particular buffs left on the target? As I said, an answer is urgent and would be appreciated.

Was this ability altered? Because I'm using the JS Hunter Bar addon, and I was mashing the shot on a mage, and got an alert that I had dispelled Time Warp. I thought Mass Dispel was the only ability in the game that could do that (dispel heroism/BL effects, that is).

In PVE this skill might shine every now and then but in PVP it's just frustrating.

Usually you'll want to dispell shields (Priest, Mage), Hots or a Pally's Hand of Freedom but you'll see: You often can't, because there's always only one dispell and only the latest magic effect get's dispelled. You'll have a hard time when trying to put this skill to good use. Once you dispelled something mana classes also often have their cd ready to renew what you just dispelled.

It also pains me that it costs 20 focus but doesn't do a single bit of damage.
So all in all:
-The dispell is unreliable: Any hot can prevent it that you can dispell an important effect (flag carrier running with Hand of Freedom to which you can't get through with the dispell because all the hots are blocking you from doing so).
-If the shot dispells the wrong effect (like because a class just got a proc or something) you just wasted 20 focus on dispelling a proc (or something).
-Because of the combination of costing 20 focus, blocking the GCD and doing no damage plus being unreliale I'd more call this a luck shot. If everything goes well your dispell did what you wanted it to do and you can now kill your target. If you had to waste too much focus on one target you won't be able to dispell, put some pressure on that enemy because you're out of focus and did less damage than usual because this shot does no damage by itself and prevented you from using damage doing shots.

If it would try to dispell spells that are 'owned' by the targeted class 1st it'd be 10 times more reliable.
But I'd be happy too if it would do at least some damage so that it isn't a total loss if the dispell on the important effect fails.
Or if they just lowered the costs.

Tranquilizing Shot CAN proc your wild quiver mastery so be careful if you are using it to clean the buffs off of someone in a Freezing Trap.

Someone should make a macro that casts this ability and says "You mad bro?". It makes sense, you are trying to dispel an enrage effect, so if you need to use it then they must be mad.

You're likely to be frustrated with this spell in a random battleground or rated bg for that matter. With lots of healers comes lots of random spells and buffs, which makes peeling the buff you want off the target very difficult. This spell shines much more in the Arena environment

1. You can "clean" a target such as a mage before the battle starts or in the beginning in order to force him to recast buffs or to give yourself a better chance of dispelling important game changing buffs.

2. It's extremely useful versus classes that have a base enrage that is required to use other abilities. You can also peel Unholy Frenzy off their healer if their UH-DK is smart enough to cast it on him to avoid cc.

3. While it may not do damage, using it at the right moments may create pressure anyway. This is done through either dispelling a defensive cd thereby removing their defenses or dispelling an offensive cd, thereby allowing you to continue being offensive.

Think of Pressure in two sets that compliment each other.
1. Offensive Pressure (Damage Done, Healing Prevented, etc)
2. Defensive Pressure (Healing Done, Damage Prevented, etc).
These are not completely separate ideas. They can compliment each other in PVP. Especially if you use Defensive Pressure (i.e. Absorbs, Resists, etc) to alllow you to continue to put out offensive pressure.

Notes on this specific spell: It does proc Wild Quiver occasionally if you are Marksman, so be careful cleaning a cc'ed target. It can dispel any normally "purgeable" spell such as Freedom, Protection, Heroism, etc. It will not dispel things such as Ice Block, "Bubble", or anything that would normally require a Shattering Throw/Mass Dispel.

You need at least two Tranqs to kill Magmadar, and though it's concievable to have one and kill him, a guild new to MC should not attempt Mag without two Tranqs.

Now the real question is: What other uses does Tranq Shot have? Who else can you shoot with this?

The answer is not much really. When a pet BWs it ENRAGES, so it can't be tranqued, well it can, but all it does is remove the attack speed increase on the pet off frenzy.

It also has no effect on warriors, in case you were wondering.

Someones never been to MC... If you have, did you ever notice that when fighting Magmadar he suddenly got really big and there was a "Magmadar goes into a killing frenzy" emote on your screen? Thats what this is used for, it calms him down.

Ok...the tome drops off Lucifron, the first boss in MC. It is a 100% drop, so you WILL get it everytime. Its just a matter of what hunters get it first.

Lucifron drops the Tome of Tranquilizing Shot. This teaches the Hunter a new spell in the Beast Mastery tree. It is learned permanently, as one would learn from a class trainer.

It's one shot that removes a FRENZY effect, not an ENRAGE. FRENZY is an increase in attack speed, while ENRAGE is an increase in both damage and attack speed. Tranq Shot does NOT work Bloodlord Mandokir, Kurinnaxx, Patchwerk, or any other boss that enrages.

Tranq Shot has a 20-second cooldown. Mobs that Frenzy usually do so every 7-10 seconds, so it is important to have at least two Hunters tranqing the mob in question. Therefore, as many Hunters as possible must stay alive during the encounter (which, for Hunters, should not be too difficult) or else it's a wipe; Frenzy will simply mow down any tank. It's mathematically impossible to heal through it.

Therefore, a rotation system must be implemented. Hunters usually call out Frenzies and apply Tranq Shot in alphabetical order by name-- i.e., Alfred would fire first, then Darkhunter, then Legolazz, then Snipershot, and then back to Alfred (made-up names, you get the idea).

The following mobs' Frenzy effects can be removed by Tranq Shot:
- Magmadar (second boss in Molten Core)
- Artorius the Doombringer (Winterspring Demon, from the Hunter epic quest)
- Flamegor (fifth boss in Blackwing Lair)
- Chromaggus (sixth boss in Blackwing Lair)
- Princess Huhuran (fourth mandatory boss in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj)
- Gluth (third boss of the Abomination Wing of Naxxramas)

Hunters with 30 points in Beast Mastery (with the Frenzy talent) must be wary of enemy Hunters, as once the Frenzy effect procs (after a critical hit), Frenzy can be removed by Tranq Shot. Not that's it's easy to spot Frenzy, or that Hunters put Tranq Shot on their hotbar when they PvP, but it is still possible.

I think that covers all the questions around Tranq Shot.

This can be used in a number of places at level 70.
ZUL'AMAN
This can be used on the amani war bears and the lynx avatar boss know as halazzi.
CAVERNS OF TIME: DARK PORTAL
This can be used on the final boss.
SERPENTSHRINE CAVERN
This can be used on the murlocs in there to give yourselves and easier time.

None of these bosses/trash mobs need to be tranq shotted but it makes it a lot easier on your healers to have them tranqed.

This skill drops as a Tome off of Lucifron and is primarily used for Magmadar. It also has some very limited use for the Hunter epic quest. As far as I've been able to tell, Tranq Shot does absolutely nothing to other mobs who enrage/frenzy.

TRANQ SHOT FTW!

Tranq shot can be used on the Last boss in Black Morass to remove his frenzy effect....the war almost died several times if I hadn't hit the boss with Tranq Shot the war woulda died for sure....Aeonos or something or other is the name of the boss btw.

Certain MC bosses have a 'Frenzy' effect, that dramatically increases their damage output. This is obviously a bad thing, and Tranq Shot is the solution.

Removes a *Frenzy* effect. Enrage is not frenzy, berserk is not frenzy, bloodlust/heroism is not frenzy.

Magmadar in MC does it, and will usually cause a wipe without at least 2 or 3 hunters removing it. That's why the book for it drops from the very previous boss in MC.
Aeonus in BM does it, but it's not as much of a group-killer. Most BM runs don't have tranq shot.
BM Hunter pets can frenzy, but they usually do it far more often than you can shoot them.

Very few other bosses have it. No players can do it.

The shot is only useful if you plan on running through specific instances and raids with bosses that frenzy often.

Edit: Big edit. Just got to 60, and found that this is now taught by trainers. I missed this in the patch notes somewhere, I guess. Not that I've yet seen anything worth using it on, except other hunter pets. :-\
