Interesting little thing you can do with this spell, If you're running low on mana, and you want to try and finish someone off with a Conflag, use rank 1 Immolate, then conflag, It still does the full damage. :)

Edit - This has been changed and is no longer viable as of 3.0.

Was fun while it lasted though. Just Life Tap and keep going I suppose :P

The trick of course with Conflagrate is to use it when the Immolate has 1 tick to go (under 3 seconds remaining), to maximise your mana used per damage point.

When mobs (like Drakkisath) cast Conflagrate, it has a disorient effect. I don't suppose this spell has one too?

If you have both Shadowflame and Immolate on the target, the Conflagrate spell will take the highest damage effect and apply the damage from that.

So basically, Immolate's damage will be done from a Conflagrate on a target with both Shadowflame and Immolate.

I just tested this too - Conflagrate is always taking the greater damage, Immolate (about 2.5x greater for me).

(I was, however, using Glyph of Conflagrate, but I doubt that the game would choose differently depending on whether or not you have that glyph, so it shouldn't matter.)

This means that you don't have to avoid putting Shadowflame on a target for fear of it nerfing your Conflagrate damage.

Hmm so pvp warlocks can do 10k+ Conflag crits on me with 803 resil......I never knew 12 seconds of immolate did 7.5k+ dmg after 12 seconds

Imo needs a nerf it hits WAY to hard for an instant cast but i guess its good when your fear, Succ, Deathcoil, Etc are on Cd

Unless you take up a major glyph slot, learn to play much? Ask for nerfs on classes like, oh I don't know "Lol knock backs you take pvp repair bill when you afked in the air while I go into flight form/slow fall" for example or like I said learn to play the game or don't play. Blizzard won't nerf cause you want so or you demand.

3.3 PTR: Conflagrate: Redesigned. This talent now consumes an Immolate or Shadowflame effect on the enemy target to instantly deal damage equal to 9 seconds of Immolate or 8 seconds of Shadowflame, and causes additional damage over 3 seconds equal to 3 seconds of Immolate or 2 seconds of Shadowflame.

How will this work with Glyph of Conflagrate?

i'd assume glyph of conflagrate would just do what it always does- keep immolate (or shadowflame) up even after conflagrate's been cast. so for 3 seconds after using immolate-conflagrate, you have 2 dots up instead of just the 1.

sounds like a pvp nerf to burst damage without losing its full potential.

It scales MUCH better than the average instant spell, and there's the problem

Conflagrate (3.2.2) used to do 628+.8*SpDam, and could crit.

Most instant spells gain SpDam*3/7 or Base+0.428*SpDam

The new Conflagrate does 3/4*(628+.8*SpDam) + 1/4 (628+.8*SpDam), but only the first part can crit, the second part is a DoT over 6 sec and can't crit.

Crits in the Destruction tree typically do 200% or 209% damage depending on Metagem.

As Immolate does 460+0.2*SpDam plus 157+0.2*SpDam every 3 seconds for 15 sec . Someone gemmed who crit on both attacks dealt (1028+SpDam)*2.09 Multiplied by talents, effectively instantly, plus a DoT worth 785+SpDam.

Talents included +6% + daze (Aftermath) + 10%(Improved Immolate) +15% emberstorm + 5% Master Demonologist +10%MoltenCore+10%T9 bonus

With SpDam in the 4000-5000 range, this was seen as a problem, and properly buffed, with procs, SD 5000 isn't out of the question.

An Immolate followed instantly by a Conflagrate in 3.2.2 where both crit, and all the bonuses mentioned above:

SpDam 3000 -> 14.3k possible +DoT +daze
SpDam 4000 -> 17.9k possible +DoT +daze
SpDam 5000 -> 21.5k possible +DoT +daze
SpDam 6000 -> 25.0k possible +DoT +daze
SpDam 7000 -> 28.6k possible +DoT +daze

I know this requires luck, and speccing for it, but you can see why they thought it needed adjusting as our Spell Damage increases.

The DoT part currently CAN crit.
Also if you're wondering what happens if you cast Conflagrate in an Empowered Imp proc, all the 3 DoT ticks will crit along with the burst damage.
This does not mean that if the burst damage crits normally that the DoT part will also crit its 3 hits, while it also doesn't mean that if the burst doesn't crit that the DoT won't either. This will only happen with spells that increase your next spell's cast critical strike chance to 100% (such as Empowered Imp).

Ok according to the wording on this spell it consumes "an" immolate effect on the target, does that mean if one lock immolates a mob the other can then conflag it?

No, you can only use Conflagrate on mobs you have Immolated/Shadowflamed yourself.

100%x.6=60%x.4=24% 60%+24%=84% of Immolates damage, or 100%x60%=60%+(100%x.4=40%)=100% of Immolates damage?

It says that it consumes the Immolate DoT, but it doesn't. It innately keeps your Immolate on your target without the need of the glyph. Erroneous wording by Blizzard.

Consumption effect removed. 40% DoT effect removed. Does 60% instant damage flat out. Glyph of Conflagarate has been changed, and reduces cooldown by two seconds.

Is the damage of Conflagrate the same regardless of how much time is left on the Immolate DOT? If not, would it be an overall DPS gain to reapply Immolate right before Conflagrate comes off CD if the Immolate DOT is only going to have a few seconds left?

I used to have this but spent the points needed to get it into my Affliction tree. I'd much rather cast another immolate instead of this again. I suppose it would be good to have in PVP if it's the only DoT on your target and you want to get rid of it so you can charm again and hit with a Soulfire >:]

This is, imo, a warlocks most powerful pvp spell. With this and nightfall and some decent +dmg gear, you are looking at (when NF procs @ 60): 800dmg shadowbolt (2k crit), 700 conflag (~1800 crit), 800 shadowburn (~1800 crit). Add that to any dots ticking on them already, and you're putting out 3-6k dmg in under 2.5 seconds.

Awesome on MC mobs too- only the mobs actually made out of fire are immune. Only 1 boss is immune, some are resistant, and the rest take full dmg.

I did a 1747 with Conflagrate on an even level mob. You can't possibly beat that with any other instant cast spell.

In WSG I like to stand behind a bush and when ppl run by I Immolate, Incinerate, and Conflagerate. Sometimes I can Soulfire them before they go out of range.

This is one of the reasons why I rolled a Warlock.

I have an endgame Mage as my main, and Conflagarate is like Fireball and Presence of Mind in one spell. >:)

Casting Immolate is pretty much nothing and is a very good spell by itself. Conflag is just making a good spell even better.

What I do miss as a Destruction Warlock is my mana reserves when playing my Mage. Increasing your health is the way to go for Life Tapping

If you have a high crit chance, or just wanna deal tons of dmg, this spell is a MUST for Destruction Locks. Forget about "ticking" the enemy down. If you get a good rhythm spell chain going you can potentially cause, like stated earlier, huge dmg in a very very short period of time. Once I hit lvl 50, I'm looking at dealing a minimum of 2200 dmg in less than 10 seconds. Notice I said MINIMUM. That's not counting any and all crits I can deal, plus any curses I've decide to toss in. Sure, it consumes the Immolate spell and some see that as a draw back, but to me, a Destruction Lock is pretty much a Mage with a minion, so I'm never really looking to see how many dots I can have on the enemy. I'm looking to drop him as fast as I can. Being able to deal about 500-600 fire dmg sans crits at lvl 40 in 1.5 secs (2 secs if you didn't reduce your cast time for immolate) simply cannot be beat, period. Do yourself a favor and just click the damn button
