I highly recommend binding stealth to your ~ key or your middle-mouse click, or any skill you find yourself using a lot. I set my Special Action Button 1 so it's now Stealth when I'm playing a rogue and Bear Form when I'm on my druid.

If you are farming a dungeon, the best way to sneak around enemies is to do the distraction spell and quickly run past them but NOT touching the enemies.

For rogues the level you get it is incorrect, it says you get it at 1, but you actually get it at 2. I know its not a big difference in level, but someone is gonna roll a rogue and get confused when they can't stealth.

When stealthing and trying to sneak up/past a mob, be aware of this - if the mob turns to your direction, stop moving. It has sensed you and is checking for you. If you keep moving, it's very likely (or certain) it will see you. Just stop moving for a few seconds until it turns back away. Sounds like I'm joking but I'm honestly not.

Stealth can be used whenever you are out of combat. This means that in PvP combat, you can go Stealth as soon as your opponent has not damaged you for 5 seconds.
Making use of this technique, restealthing, can be pretty powerful, relying on talented Gouge, slows, and stuns to avoid damage while waiting for the 5 seconds. When stealthed again, you can use powerful moves like Ambush, Sap and Cheap Shot which you cannot in combat.

At level 19, the few safest ways to combat a rogue in stealth are: 1. Casting Hunter's Mark on the rogue before he/she stealths. 2. Sending your pet to attack the rogue before he/she stealths. (The pet will keep to its target and will break the stealth with damage) and 3. Perception. All other ways are generally mana inefficient or dangerous. (i.e. Arcane Explosion spamming or just tabbing until the rogue gets close enough for you to detect him/her)

It might be helpful to note that there are certain actions a rogue can do that won't be broken/interrupted by stealthing. The most notable that I use all the time is eating food. You can start eating, stealth, and you will keep eating and regaining health. I've found this very useful when working in areas where mobs are fairly concentrated, to name just one example.

Another useful ability able to be used while stealthed is poisoning your weapons. you can be stealthed, click the poison and apply it to your weapon without leaving stealth mode. As far as I know, this still works as of patch 3.0.3, but Blizzard may have taken it out, if somebody can confirm its working, please let us all know.

I think fall damage no longer break stealth.
I was in rank 1 stealth and took 12 fall damage and I did not get out of stealth.

Get used to this ability try it out a lot see how far you can get to mobs what angles are better and you will become a master of stealth which will help so much in pvp and pve

Some people who like those small rabits jumping around them often make this mistake while using stealth: companions will not be stealthed when you use stealth. Of course a mob will not detect you just because your companion, but in PvP an enemy player will think about what is that cat without anyone moving towards him.
So you can prepare to a quick die if you forgot to dismiss that companion before you started steathing.

Some other things about stealth-detection:

Stealth is not invisibility, invisibility can be detected by only special spells and has a limited duration, while stealth is unilimited and can be detected by everyone
Stealth cannot be detected if the stealther behind you, even if you press the left mouse button and rotate the mouse (so you can see your char from the front)
Stealth detection is incresed for humans (players) or can be incresed if you use special items, spells, abilities
When you are detecting a stealther he\she\it is transparently visible, so it's still very difficult to spot him\her\it from far
Any damage against the stealther will turn off stealth (when you think that an enemy stealther is near you, use an AoE damaging spell)
Engineers can make Alarm-O-Bot while Hunters can flare, each detect any stealting or invisible enemies in the area (these just for examples)

Ever find yourself mashing your stealth button 200 times a second to get into stealth asap just waiting for you to get out of combat?

Of course this is a pvp situation, but what happens is you stealth and push it ONE too many times, and you get out of stealth again. Solution?

If you have a non-combat pet out while stealthed, it will be very easy for an enemy player to spot you because they can just AoE near said pet. There are however some exceptions to this for you rogues that want to have a pet out while stealthed:

The Wolpertinger from the brewfest world event is a unique pet in that it can only be seen while drunk. (It can be seen by you or people in your party even while sober) So you can usually have it out without fear of being spotted.

Egbert, from the children's week event, can be an interesting pet to use with stealth. He runs around randomly and can confuse an enemy player into thinking you're somewhere else. Be cautious if you decide to use this crazy bird though.

if u are good with stealth u could stealth to the end of an instance without anyone seeing u=P i did it once in SM and only had to fight Herod. then stealthed right back out=D i think stealth is on of the rogues main talent and if u think stealth isnt usefull then u probably dont know how to play rogues=P

master of deception is good talent. makes you a lot harder to see when stealthed. camoflouge(sp?) is good too. its really up to you. the talent that decreases the cooldown is ok, but not as good as the others.

I think the best talents would be 31/8/12 or 30/8/13....but for PVP, prep is needed and CB too, so id go 21/8/22

believe it or not, the alliance has better rogues, the night elfs has shadow meld. which not only makes the player stealth, but increases stealth detection, and decreases the chance of being found. the humans get preception which increases stealth detection and also get mace mastery so the make great rogues.

Even IF, the Alliance has the better Rogues, the Horde constantly take us down in the BG's. What I want to say is: WSG

Horde -> Level 17-19 Mainly +LOT of Twinks
Alliance -> Level 10-19, not that many Twinks

Even though our (Alliance) stats might be better (Night Elf at least), I usually encounter Level 19 Rogues that are able to tear apart my level 19 Warrior with only a few problems.

Well stealth is good and my fav faction is alli(but i do got horde so dont feel mad :))And twinks on my realms is seriously hard to tell,there's in 10-19 bgs everyone of my realms has like an even no. of rogue twinks,only diff is alli got all different race twinks while Horde is definitely mostly Undead.(Blood Elf rogues are starting to sprout though)

Was just thinking this chould be useful to some players. There is a lot stuff to increase your stealth, and here is a few of them.

Nightscape Boots
Whisperwalk Boots (item from Rogue quest)
Master of Deception (talent in Subtlety)
Figurine - Nightseye Panther
Enchant Cloak - Stealth
Enchant Cloak - Subtlety*
Enchant Gloves - Threat*

*These enchants dont increase stealth but, they reduce threat, which work much the same I guess.

And yes, I know this comment suck since you cant click the names to get the sites about them but, just copy the name and search on it.

It is not possible for a Rogue in WSG to capture the opponents flag and then stealth around with it. When the player get the stealth-buff the flag will drop on the ground as if the Rogue deselected it, so if the Rogue still want to carry it on he/she have to un-stealth, pick it up again and try to get to friendly base without stealth. This is of course because the opponent players would have little or no chance to get their flag back. Appearently this drop-trigger also prevent some other extreme buffs that would help the flag-carrier, like mounts.

I enjoy the rogue class so far.My first char ever was a hunter(Who is now 65) and i got tired of his fighting skill.Then i made a shaman(horde) and he was a healer....didnt like his skill so didnt play him when i got high in the 30's.then i made a warlock(like till 26) Then made a warrior(currently kinda playing) also i made a druid(forget when)but i dint like....so now my newest char is a rogue(Lvl 17) and so far i think im gonna stick....stealth is so cool. =)

Does Shadowmeld (Elf race ability) and Stealth Stack? I know that if you try to shadowmeld after you engage stealth, you get a message "A stronger spell is in effect." Thanks

I've read that Stealth breaks when you take an action (like eating) but if you've already started the action, you can stealth while doing it. Therefore, I think this macro should work and I'll try it when in Classic:

I'm still unclear if Stealth is permitted when bandaging but I believe it breaks it. Again, needs testing.
