Sinister Strike is the move that makes even slow wepons useful to daggers, because unlike most warrior skills which work with the next melee skill, Sinister Strike is an instant cast. So if you happen to have a sword in your main hand and a dagger in your off hand then the slow DPS of the dagger will be made up by the higher damage that will be recieved from Sinister Strike

With combat talents Aggression and Surprise Attacks instead of 180 in the tooltip it probably says around 208 bonus.
(I'm no math genious or anything so it may be wrong, nice if someone could check this out)

Trivia: Back in the day, Sinister Strike dealt 100% weapon damage (normal weapon damage) plus a fixed amount that was dependent on the skill's rank and on talents.

This is one of the three moves you start with as a Rogue. The other two are Eviscerate and Throw.

If you r leveling in subtlety, cuz it has a lot of traveling\cave soloing\elite mob assassination skills you wont use ss cuz of hemo, its cheaper and has a buff. On low levels ss and hemo has approx equal damage on average.

this move doesnt make ur char do the special attack thing (like heroic strike) but instead will just hit them normally with a sound and a purple thingy, this is good because seeing my gnome jump into my enemies face a lot is just plain stupid :P

Despite its name this attack is made with the right hand.
In latin, sinister means 'left side'.

Sinister Strike is the basic Rogue-ability to deal damage but, Hemorrhage makes combo-points faster. At least I've experienced that.

Its only 5 energy difference if you're SS specced... Sure it makes you get combo points faster, but doesn't SS deal more dmg? I would rather use SS than hemo...

Your right SS does deal more damage. But most rogues that have hemmorhage arent SS specced.

Hemo generates combo faster so you can use your final attacks with more damage, SS can't but it does more damage per strike. Since SS is 40 energy and hemo is 35 energy, one person calculated hemo per 40 energy, and when the damage is greater then SS. So hemo is both energy efficient, more damage per energy, fast combo collector, and able to Critical.

However, SS is good for PvE because no matter what (I think) you deal more damage per strike. Hemo isn't like that. And also, SS has a better advantage because you need to go deep into the Subtetly tree in order to get hemorrage. So, technically SS is better than hemo in terms of PvE and in the beginning because of the deepness of Hemo.

at least try to get behind the enemy that is what u are suposed to do...

P.S. at 19 ill still beat u with my trial orc rogue... just give me 3-4 das to lvl and equip 1 ;) .

Basicly, SS will win above Hemo. When you are SS spec prolly you are more than just SS and have combat tree quite full on talents.
In this case you have more beneficial skills/talents that increase your damage - even if you are dagger-combat spec.
If you use daggers and go hemo - yeah only benefit on damage is increased backstab and agility - which in total gives you crap dmg - you dont use BS cause you have hemo - wasted points for lvl70 PVE.

For PVP on other hands its quite good build to have with hemo and others talents from Subtely Tree.

does SS depend on your main hand completely? I have a dagger and a mace that do the same dps but the mace does more dmg just slower. they are both MH weps. should i use the mace being a combat spec?

EDIT: Tried and tested. SS depends on your main hand wep dmg. Moral of the story: sword/mace combat specs > dagger combat specs

use daggers only for assassin/sub specs in main hand, or use in offhand for poison reasons/shiv

always use 1h daggers with rogues. A 2h wep or and !H mace just wrecks all the good things about rogues. e.g. rogues are quick dps' so a mace is a bad choise bcoz they are slow weps.

To the person above me:

I cannot even begin to explain how moronic you are. You had to have just started to play wow with your comment. Pretty much you always want a slower weapon, either dagger or sword (or even mace, wait.. a mace? A slow mace?). Every slow weapon as a high top end damage, which is pretty much what most of our abilties are based off of. Hemo, SS, backstab, ambush, ect. All are based off of weapon damage. Yes, rogues are a very fast attacking class, thats because most of our attacks are instant and we have lots of A.S. increasing abilites. You do not want to go for a fast weapon, it would be incredibly weak.

I myself am combat spec'd. That means i spam SS then use Eviscerate until they die. SS is based off weapon damage (as i'v said b4) and it is instant, would you rather hit for 50 with a fast weapon or 100 with a slow one?

Its your choice. Your paying for wow with your own money, you can play how you want, but if you play the way you just said to play your probably decreasing your dps by 40%. Down mark this comment if you want but thats my 2cents.

Plus whats a 1h dagger? Does a 2h dagger even exist?...
