Yeah, it's our only ranged move in feral form, so it's definately good to have. It also causes a bit of aggro, so it helps for when you tank.

Edit: That is before you get lacerate. After that, most of your time will be spent using that.

I have found it very efficient to feral charge and faerie fire at the same time when tanking. It just needs some getting used to timing. It produces a fair amount of aggro and combined with mangle or lacerate (or both), it's all you need to keep the mob on you before others start nuking.

I read somewhere that the feral version couldn't be resisted by a mob, yet while PvEing I've noticed it being resisted a few times.
Can anybody else confirm this?

This spell can be resisted, but not often. Not many average mobs have enough nature (or arcane, not sure) resistance to be resisted.

I just got this on my druid, shortly after i tanked a rfk run. Its great for tanking. Pull with FFF then feral charge. Very great and no reason not to use it in any fight.

For pulling, I find it better to pull with Wrath. You can cast 2 wraths and maybe a moonfire to get some starting aggro. This might even be on 3 different targets, and then change to bear form. But this spell should be up at all time on the mob you are tanking. Also increases the melee dps for the others in party/raid. So indeed, very nice spell.

After a few rounds of testing on my 58 Feral druid...

FFF ( Rank 5 ) seems to produce just about 77 threat. This is constant, if you are to believe my KTMThreatMeter.

However, Rank 1 does the same amount of aggro, which leads me to believe that it is a level-based amount - Somewhere around 150% of your level, which whould make it roughly 115 free aggro at L70. I'll have to keep testing as I level to see how it bases out.

It's not a big deal, but it's free, and if you have nothing else to spend that GCD on, why not? ^^

Personally, I'm glad that FFF is now trainable, but I think that it has now been broken for bear form :(

When tanking, I would use a mouseover macro to mouseover trapped mobs, sheeps etc and apply it whenever I could, when the cc breaks, the mob usually decides to have a go at me and not the cc'er. With the bear damage component, that goes out the window...

While you can't "tag" CCed mobs (or critters to preserve rage) anymore with FFF (in bear, of course) you can now use the new Growl that has a 30 yd range. You will definitely draw the mob's attention, even if someone gathered more threat on it than a FFF would give you.

For those trying to figure out how to put this ability into a macro, you need to put an empty parentheses after the name, because the macro parser will otherwise try to process (Feral) as the spell rank.

So be sure to use

/cast Faerie Fire (Feral)()

and not

/cast Faerie Fire (Feral)

in your macros.

This is a very, very useful talent. First of all, it costs absolutely 0 energy/rage, and has a short cooldown, and is instant cast.

For bear tanking, this ability not only weakens your enemy but creates a very significant amount of threat. So if your healer is being attacked, just hit growl and then FFF and the target will be yours. Also does a little damage.

For cat form, this is a one-time use thing. It should always be cast on boss monsters if you have a druid in your group, simply for the fact it makes the boss in question weaker. For PvP, it stops rogues from vanishing, which is a huge help.

But for bear tanks, don't ever pass this up because it doesn't do much damage - it causes plenty of threat.

Does this count as a ranged attack (i.e. Judgement) or as a spell like standard Faerie Fire? I'm curious as to whether or not it can miss if you are hitcapped for melee/ranged attacks.

I was bear tanking for the first time today (Druid is level 24 and I thought i'd give it a shot) and I noticed the "Causes Additional Threat" in the tooltip is a major understatement, and is more accurately "Causes Extreme Amounts of Threat". Me and this pally were co-tanking the instance and I would hit FFF on anything and take the threat away nearly regardlessly of how much threat the pally had caused.

Long Story Short: FFF causes a DUMPLOAD of threat, for anyone who doesn't know.

Quick Facts about Faerie Fire (Feral)

Goes off Spell Hit and Spell Crit.

With 8% Melee Hit or 263 Rating you have about 10% Spell Hit. That leaves 7% or 4% left if you have Misery/Improved Faerie Fire.
FFF only gets Crit % from Crit Rating on gear and +% Crit debuffs on you or your target. Examples 1, 2, 3

It does get a Damage Boost from % Debuffs on the Target that effect spells like Ebon Plaguebringer.

FFF does not proc Savage Defense.

so, if this skill doesn't change with cataclysm, and "Feral Aggression" hits live, we'll have a 1 second cooldown on this skill...

6 seconds cooldown - 5 second cooldown reduction from FA = 1 second

That would give bear tanks the best ranged attack among any of the melee classes, and with the extra threat this gives, it would actually allow us to be a ranged tank. That's pretty neat... unless I missed something?

In Cataclysm, the minor armor debuff category is going away; Faerie Fire will be a major armor debuff, and no longer stack with sunder/expose armor.

When you're not in a group, it'll use the first line, and when you're grouped it'll use the second line. It casts Faerie Fire on mouseover and also when you tab target normally, depending on what stance you're in and also Swipe for 2 seconds after you've used it.. replace it with another spell if you wish.

/startattack for making sure you start meleeing right away. Glyph of Faerie Fire increases the range to 45 yards and I'm also making use of the 3 piece bonus from Field Marshal's Sanctuary.

Handy for running around doing 1 button skinning in low level areas. I've got it bound to a mouse button for easy living.

Notice the line added at the end there. It tells the macro to click a second macro button that in this example is on the Bottom Right Action Bar, button 12. In other words it's two macros in one. The reason for doing this is that the first macro won't have the space to include everything. Here's the second macro:

/use Tiger's Fury
/use Feral Charge(Cat Form)
/use Skull Bash(Cat Form)
/use Dash
/use Darkflight
So now we have even more goodies with that one single button. It'll use Tiger's Fury on CD, Charge and/or Skull Bash, followed by Dash and then finally Darkflight if you're a Worgen. This works because these abilities are not on the Global Cooldown - they can be activated at the same time as other skills. You can play around with this and see if you come up with a nice twist to it, and then report back to us so we can all benefit. Thanks :)

Since the Cataclysm, Faerie Fire is comparable to and does not stack with Protection Warriors' Sunder Armor, Assassination Rogues' Expose Armor, Hunters' Raptors' Tear Armor, or Hunters' Serpents' Corrosive Spit.

Both of these are talents in the Feral Combat line, you have to have the talent first before you can train them into the higher ranks. This is not explained well therefore I thought I would just comment for ya :P

Am i the only one who found out a little too late that this is one of those things that you'd have to spend about half your talent points in feral combat before you can get it? I'm level 35 and I still only have five points in feral combat. It sucks that you can go to a trainer for rank 2 at level 30, but you can't do that until you do all of this crap in your talent tree.

just keep this on a rouge an he cant vanish or blind/stealth

but he still get out of roots :(

even against other classes or pve its usefull since it reduces armor

edit: oh jeah and if you dont want to go feral you also got feary fire but it cost mana

I'm actually with Havockitten on this one. Granted, my druid was the 1st character I made, so allocating points wasn't huge on my list of strategy points, but it was pretty annoying that there was no early tip-off. If there was some form of tutorial (Druids for Dummies style) on how to allocate points to get whwat you want out of your character, that might be an easier way. It's quite irritating to find out that, because your guild initially needed a healer and so you went Balance for the first levels, you cannot go feral later because you'd be level 60 before you got your talent points reallocated.

the point of this is so that you dont have to switch out of a feral form to cast, mayby the mana cost to cast faerie fire is insignificant, but the shapeshifting cost is very significant.
and, dumb qwestion, do they stack? this and caster version? prolly not :(

It doesn't stack with ur own caster-faerie fire but it does stack with other druids FF.

the cost is zero, no need for rage or energy for this one.

Really useful when tanking, take this on every mob ur at and it will give u a rather big amount of threat, kinda like the warriors Sunder Armor only that one is way better cuz it stacks.

Good for fighting rogues but it doesn't help against blind, only if they use blind then stealth (they cant if they have FF on them).
Blind can however be removed, with Abolish Poison cuz it still is considerate a Poison.
Don't think u can use AB when u have blind on u though.

Also worth noting is that the cooldown on Faerie fire (feral) is just 6 secs.. and as it costs nothing you can spam it in BG..

if ur a feral druid this is a MUST. you will be spending most of your time in bear or cat, and you want it to be optimal.

So in order to get this talent as early as possible, you must spend all your points in feral until level 30. But then you have to rank it up right away, seems poorly thought out to me.

As of 4-20-07 this spell is available in your talents. It is called Faire Faerie Fire (feral) and you must spend 20 talent points in Feral before you can get it. Then you can purchase Faire Fire (feral) rank 2 from a trainer.

You have to use your talent points for each level you acquire and spend 15 of those in Feral Combat techniques before these will be available for you. Once you use your talent point to buy Faerie Fire (cat) rank1 (or bear) then you can goto your druid trainer and purchase rank 2 for money. You have to enable rank one through the talent points before you get to buy rank 2. Sucks, i think i'll respec my points to use them more effiently.

Minimum level to train this is actually level 31 as it requires 21 talents in the Feral tree. You won't be able to learn this unless you take this talent.

Once you've learned it, you won't need to relearn it even if you drop feral talents and re-spec, although you won't be able to use it again until you respec into a tree that has this talent. i.e. you don't have to pay the trainer more than once for it.
