Flare is a spell used by hunters to see stealth enemies. This can be used in PvP and in PvE. When you see an enemie going in stealth you should use flare as fast as possible.

Flare is not dispellable, and when the target is in the 10 yards he will have that de buff. When he goes out the 10 yards range the debuff will fade.

warning to all hunters. It is possible to sneak inside the flare radius if a stealthed enemy enters IMMEDIATELY after the flare disappears and moments before the next one hits the ground. The flare debuff is not applied until the object itself hits the ground.

The best thing rather than flare in 1v1 Vs a shadowmelded player is to Volly as flare does not put the target in combat.
E.g If it was a warrior you would be able to get the first seconds while the warrior has to run towards you instead of charging.

I can only see the entire flare radius when I have ultra quality mode.. so to play rogue(worries about flare),druid(worries about flare) or hunter you need an uber leet computer?

I want to see the entire flare but I don't have the computer to play on ultra quality.

Yes projected textures is checked but I have not found out why ultra quality is the only mode that is letting me see flares whole radius, any other mode just shows the little dot.

edit: the flare radius difference between normal and ultra quality is the difference between a camp fire and a blast wave.

Besides it obvious uses, I frequently use my flares to start foot-races from goldshire to stormwind. You know that after reading this that you're gonna go do that same thing:)

A pretty useful skill. Works very nicely in narrow hallways or in doorways. If you're camping a spot, make sure you refresh it as soon as it cools down, the flare seems to last an extra moment to allow this. Kitties, rogues, and mages beware! :)

Works great to reveal the hidden Lynx packs in Zul'Aman.

Makes the pull a lot easier when the tank can see one of the cats and taunt it.

I have a great macro idea but it seems to have 1.5 flaws
MACRO
Basically right now it tries to targets an enemy and auto attacks and all that when i click the flare button before i even launch the flare?

The macro is:

/cast auto shot
/cast attack
/cast web(special ability)
/cast charge

I want it to CAST flare on the GROUND and target a cat or rogue nearby that just got exposed and then pet attack, auto shot, web, charge in one button, any help?

flaw .5 flare has a gcd and thus i can not cast hunters mark in this macro

Because this ability is an AE effect the server needs some time (1-2s) to realize it when someone stepped in that flared zone.
Because of that Rogues can still sap and sometimes even attack you while stealthed even when you stand right in the middle of your flare. It all depends on the delay. Not even counting Shadow Step in here.

Reveals stealthed, camouflaged and invisible (with some exclusions) units.
Although the tooltip states a 20s area flare once used it's somewhat more than that. At least 2s before your previous flare ticks off you'll have your cooldown ready to place a new one.

Another important thing: Sometimes (very rare) when using this spell and the ballistic flight path of flare is blocked by a door entrance for example or when trying to use flare on some angular area / object your flare won't appear on the ground after it landed. Instead it will disappear while you have your flare spell on cooldown. That is a bug which sometimes occurs when you're trying to use flare after jump-dismounting.

Private notes:
As a Hunter I really don't like the delay on this. If it'd be a volley type spell on all units in this area it'd be better. As a Rogue I find this spell incredibly lame. Basically you throw it somewhere and that big area is a no-stealth zone for 20s (repeating, of course). Would like to see this one reworked.

this needs a nerf. 30 sec duration, 15 sec cooldown? an immobile (or slowly moving) hunter is invincible vs rogues in a duel.

let's not forget scatter, freezing trap, pets charging thru stealth, pet shouts, multi-shot, volley, DoT, concussive shot (+spec?), wing clip (+spec?), and hunter's mark... hunters are impossible to kill in a duel for a rogue!

open pvp is a diff story though... :D

In duel rogue vs hunter: rogue goes stealth, hunter releases flare and puts a freezing trap beside him, rogue blinds hunter, vanish, disarm trap, hit hunter and thats in fact all...

Thats just in that case but there are multiple ways...

What if that same hidden player of the opposing faction is NOT flagged, will I reveal them? Will that flag me?

Can anyone answer these questions for sure?

Hi I'm going to repeat an earlier question that was misunderstood;

If I cast flare and reveal a flagged player of the opposing faction, is that going to flag me?

Can anyone answer these questions for sure?

Meaning if you are in horde territory (for a horde player) and use flare on an ally rogue. Will that pvp flag/tag you, making it possible for any other ally to attack you? Just like healing a pvp tagged player does.

Look, guys, it matters who the player is. All classes even out. If the rogue is a noob, then the hunter can own him. If the hunter's a noob, then the rogue can own him. So...just to clear that up.

this spell is the best when u place it infront of you when you have a freeze trap right behind you. usually rogues go behind the flare thinking they are sneaky and get frozen. This is also gonna be the only thing a hunter can do in the expansion to reveal a vanished rogue (besides having him DOTted) because vanish will removee hunters mark which will make it way overpowered imo.
in WSG a hunter should always be on D and have a trap on the flag and have this up for stealthed rogues.
The only bad thing that i can think of you using this is that it will alert anyone around you that you are present because of its loud sound and bright light. Also when used on stealthed mobs. (if a mob is stealthed it has a low aggro radius but when u use flare it gains a bigger radius and might attack you).

Actually vanish does not remove Hunters Mark it stays on now :) dunno why but it does so my suggestion for a rohue is..stealth b4 battle! or u are so screwed.

I have a sixty five rogue on Farstriders (Horde - Tranquil). I also have a level 30 NE Hunter on the same (Eluseya). I don't really find rogues a real problem in PvP, to tell the truth, when playing the hunter. Scattershot and they're gone, you just have to get away and you can easily kite them.

From experience with the rogue? Flare is overpowered. No ability like this should have a cooldown that's LESS than the duration. Lasts 30, CD is 15? Like hell. A hunter once tried soloing XR, so I decided to take him down on my rogue. He hid behind Flare and did nothing at all because I couldn't get to him.

Yes, Stealth can be a pain because you can't hit me, but I at least have to come out of it to attack. Not so with the hunters, you can sit there firing arrows and constantly keeping a Flare up. Personally, I think there should be a reagent required. You know, firing a flare requiring a flare.. and having a limit on how many you can carry.. that'd maintain some semblance of balance. 5 instantly comes to mind, but I'd say 10-20 would be more fair.

This spell used to really get my rogue crushed in duels and even in BG's but not anymore. Now that im 70 and im sub specced when im dueling a cheap hunter that puts a trap and a flare and stands there i use cloak of shadows shadowstep resist trap and flare and BAM! Ambush his ass and he has no clue what to do now that his trap is gone. No hunter can beat this strategy cuz they r sure its so foolproof. The thing is you might want to use vanish if the hunter is the same lvl or a higher lvl than u cuz they will c u first without vanish.

so true, in BG track hidden is useless if you dont know that a druid or rogue is really near. also it's effect is cancelled by rogue talent master of deception.

hunters are the only class whit decent trackings, and they should guide team mates to the main target (like the enemy flag carrier in wsg. no1 in the base, whic road is he picking? ramp? tunnel? east road? graveyard? only a druid or hunter can tell it to others from far and spam his location on radar.)

also i use aspect of the beast to sneak whiteout get detected by druids that can only track humans and alawya track them.

hunters are so flamed by other classes because there are $%^&*!@s like this guy that think to survive 2min in MELEE COMBAT against a rogue that totally destroy the class.

P.S. also who SIT on the trap is a TRUE NOOB! if rogue resist trap, he get 100% crit on his ambush - ravage for druids.
nice way to start a fight whit 40% hp.
hunters remember that you are good till laters lvl, end game other class will get ALL their skills and will be able to crush you fairly easy if you're not skilled. remember that you take misdirection at 70, lol. what else? ah, yes: an anti caster trap that can be destroyed by a simple aoe rank1, aspect to regen mana, a 150 extra pet damage after your crits, and steady shot that is our only good shot in TBC.

Flare is usually used on Rogues or NElves who stealth/shadowmelt. This is a MUST skill if you are in a PvP server.

A great spell. Mostly used when you get the "im being watched feeling". Good in BGs as well. This combined with an ice trap and your a Natural Rogue killer.

Currently bugged in WoW Classic to the advantage of Hunters versus Rogues.

A Rogue can Sprint out of the Flare (10 yard radius) before casting Vanish. Give it about 1 or 2 seconds, and Vanish+Stealth will fade from the Rogue.

No Serpent's Sting.
No Hunter's Mark.
No debuffs of any kind that could break the Rogue's Stealth.
