The by far easiest way to complete this Q is if you watch halfway down just to your left as you stand by the questgiver, there is a shelf where the fireballs aint flying with plenty of eggs, mostly, people misses this place and you can destroy at least 30 eggs there each spawn.

As previously stated, there is a ledge off to the left of the quest giver that has ~15 eggs that spawn about once every 30 seconds or so. This ledge is safe from falling smoldering boulders.

Wish it was repeatable. By far the funnest quest I ever did in WoW.

Why not make it so we can duel like this? That would have been the cherry on top!

Those of you commenting about bad mechanics and how terrible this was, the mechanics were intentional, the quests were freebies, and they are an unsubtle reference to something you children out there might not have the nostalgia to appreciate.

Joust was one of the original cool sidescroller video games. It was a bunch of platforms, floating over lava, and you had to take your flying Joustrich around impaling other people ostriches and stealing their eggs. The challenges were: the invincible Pterodactyl, falling in the lava, being hit by other jousters (you panzies lucked out not having to deal with that) and the game play mechanics, which were strongly rooted in inertial physics. You flapped to get air and momentum, you skidded on the ground to try to slow down.

Given that these quests were A) easy B) rewarding and C) entertaining, I see little to complain about.

If you had problems with the quests like I did (loads of other players in the cave), just fly to the northern wall of the cave, down low at the lava level you will find Numa Skyclaw with two Aviana's Guardians by his side. Behind him is a small cave that is missed by others and you can easily get the quest done there, since you have no need to fly in there, just run between two rooms. Nice and easy.

Honestly, I never played Joust, and I still love this quest. It's hard, but it's fun.

I only wish they'd make it repeatable or something so I can get both pets. :(

As someone who dropped many quarters into Joust machines in my youth I can honestly say when I first saw the eggs in this quest I had a moment of panic. I just knew I had to get the eggs fast before they hatched and riders came out waiting for their mounts to arrive and pick them up.

Of course that didn't happen, but it's still funny to me that almost 30 years later "knowing Joust fights" is probably more stuck in my brain than "knowing boss fights" in WoW.

And yeah, thanks Blizzard. Joust in 3D was awesome on so many levels for this old gamer.

If you go back out of the instance you might not see the location of the quest on the map (since it is in the instance); the portal to get back into the instance is at (Mount Hyjal) 38, 58.

For those who do not have a coordiantes add on you can just use the below macro instead:

P.S.
for those who are unfamiliar with wow macros, to add the coordinates macro just:

Not that hard (especially if you remember Joust) the reward is alright as far as vanity pets go.... definitely a nice break from the grinding in the area

I never played Joust or heard of it until now. I disliked this quest because I has trouble with flapping and getting back to the quest giver. I'm actually quite dizzy and nauseated now from it. Haha. Not recommended if you don't feel well! Luckily there was an achievement and pet reward because it all evened out.

If you get car sick or just nauseous easy! i recommend someone else doing this for you! i had to go lay down for the rest of the night because i felt so sick.

I'm reading the comments as I go along and I think they fixed the mechanics a bit. I remember attempting this several times right after cata and it just did not work. It's not too bad now.

For some reason I forgot you can use W,A,S,D to move you character, I was jumping around trying to land on eggs when I pressed W and ran forward..

Like many people have been saying, this quest is bugged.
It tends to stop flying in the direction you want it to and just goes in the same direction regardless of where you're facing.
I found one probable cause and a solution.

Cause: For some reason, this only happened to me if I tried steering the hippogryph while pressing flap (i.e. pressing my forward key/holding down both mouse buttons while pressing flap).

Solution: Don't press the forward or any strafing keys, just steer with your right mouse button and press flap.
Also, if you are stuck and can't dismount your bird while you're flying, simply unequip the lance. You MAY end up falling to your death but it's the only way I was able to dismount the hippogryph.

We should have been riding hawkstriders for this quest. It would have helped explained the difficulty in flight too. Plus a tiny hawkstrider pet with a lance wielding knight would have been cooler than a buzzard. Just my 2c.

Description

Without any defenders, the Firelands eggs are vulnerable.
