There are 2 phases in this fight. He will change into shadow form while 60% health.

The spells he use in two different phases has the same mechanism, except Thrall will be prisoned in phase 2 so that he can't help you.

Righteous Shear / Twilight Shear:
Put a MAGIC debuff on one player and deal aoe damage to nearby allies.
In phase 1 Thrall helps to dispel it, in phase 2 your healer need to dispel it TWICE because the debuff has 2 stacks.

Purifying Light / Corrupting Twilight
Three energy orb strike to party members, knockback and deal about 80k damage, also put a ground effect so you must move as quickly as you can. Only one player will be hit in phase 1 but 3 players in phase 2.

Better keep a suitable distance between each other because those spells above.

Wave of Virtue / Wave of Twilight
A huge wave ( about half of the platform ) sweep across the platform (It works like Wave of Agony.). Hide into the Water Shell in phase 1and avoid it in phase 2. The dmg is deadly.

If your group isn't paying attention you will have a few people getting 1 shotted.

Phase 1

Have someone interrupt whenever possible to help reduce some damage.
Healers must dispell...this is your first priority. If someone gets the debuff it will do more damage then you can heal through.
When you see thrall form the little water bubble. Everyone get inside of it or dodge the giant wave.
also, don't stand in the light rings on the ground and spread out during the fight.

Phase 2
In phase 2 he'll switch over to shadow form and this is where you need to really pay attention

Healers will do the same as phase 1 and dispell as quickly as possible.
When you see the 3 purple shadow orbs appear over the bosses head EVERYONE needs to spread out atleast 6-8 yards apart. The 3 orbs will attack 3 random players. If 2 people happen to be standing next to eachother when the orbs come down you'll take close to 180k damage and will probably get 1 shot. If you manage to survive the initial hit the orbs will leave void zones on the ground that tick for around 30k/sec. That will probably finish you off. so SPREAD OUT.
When the wave comes everyone needs to look at which side the wave is coming from so they can run to the proper side. Sometimes the wave comes on the left, middle, or right. If you run to the wrong side the wave will instantly kill you. There is no bubble to hide in so make sure you dodge the wave.

A small note for the gauntlet event before the boss encounter. When you clear towards the entrance of Wyrmrest Temple and Archbishop Benedictus runs out to greet your party and such, do not run ahead into the temple proper without Benedictus as that'll cause him to despawn and render you unable to complete the instance.

Apparently there are issues with the Archbishop at the moment, he either despawns or events get stuck in certain phases and this will prevent you from fighting him. Blizzard is aware of the issue and are working to resolve it at this time, if you run into these issues try leaving the instance with your party and have your dungeon leader right click on his portrait and click on "Reset all instances". That should help reset the encounter and the events so that you may progress through the area.

I dunno if its just me or something is buggy about Water Shell . It sometimes doesn't shield you from Wave of Virtue for some reason. Can someone care to shed some of their experiences on this?

EDIT: After a couple of more runs on this boss I think I finally figured out why this particular thing happens. Apparently its all about the DPS. If Archbishop manages to cast the Wave of Virtue and if immediately enough you manage to put him into the Twilight Epiphany phase the Water Shell will be rendered useless and the party might take a big HP dip or worse a wipe since the wave moves slowly. Of course thats my observation so this isin't confirmed.

Confirmed this today, if you get him to 49% before he can cast Wave of Virtue he won't cast it.

Like many, we got the bug when Benedictus despawns and we're all stuck. I sent a GM ticket and got this vague answer.

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department. I apologize for being unable to address your ticket while you were online. For this particular issue, I understand the reason for contacting us was because The archbishop tricked thrall into jumping into the portal to the emerald dream and thrall can't find his way back.

Doesn't exactly answer if you can retrieve him or not.

He starts Palpatining REALLY hard about halfway through his shpiel. He gets the raspy, gurgling voice and you start expecting him to start killing Thrall with lightning until you intervene.

Note to warrior tanks on this fight:
Spell reflect can be used to counter Smite and Twilight Blast. While it will not reflect those spells, it will deflect them.

For those who are looking to Transmogrify his set:

Shoulders: Wings of the Avatar/Mantle of the Avatar
Robe: Shroud of the Avatar/Vestments of the Avatar
Staff: Redemption
Gloves Gloves of the Avatar/Handguards of the Avatar
Waist: Belt of the Long Road/Belt of Divine Inspiration
Feet: Boots of the Long Road/Soul-Strider Boots
Cloak: Wrap of the Great Turtle/Zom's Electrostatic Cloak

As far as I know, the hood he wears is unobtainable and I know of no look-alikes. If someone finds something I would appreciate a response.

So basically, you need to roll a Human Priest, name it "Powah", mog this set, and see if anybody gets it.
