Rom'ogg is the first Boss of Blackrock Caverns

The fight isn't anything spectacular - with a minor exception. A few times during the fight, Rom'ogg will pull everybody next to him, imprisoning them in Chains of Woe. Immediately after that he begins casting The Skullcracker. You and your party will need to break the chains quickly and get away from the boss, or he will do a lot of damage. And kill you. All.

Before pulling Rom'ogg Bonecrusher you want to make sure that most of the room is clear. He will call mobs close to him into battle to help him. The fight is pretty much a normal tank and spank, but he does have two abilities that he will do. The first is an AoE attack called Quake which will do 9000 damage a second. As far as I know you can not avoid it (except with Iceblock, pally bubbles, etc.) so the healer is going to have to heal through it. The other thing, is Chains of Woe, which will pull everyone into one group in front of him. He will cast this twice: once at 65% and the other at 35%. Then he will begin casting The Skullcracker. You will need to kill the chains and move out about 20 yards from him (even the tank) or you will die. Rinse and repeat and the first boss will be down in no time.

It should be noted that, upon killing Rom'ogg, a friendly NPC named Raz the Crazed will be released from his prison in the middle of a room. He's some sort of giant, mutant orc.
He will also proceed to completely oblerate any other mob in his path.
He will become your best friend.

The first thing you’ll want to do before pulling this guy is make sure most of the room is cleared, as he will call any remaining trash packs during the fight, and you’ll most certainly wipe.

The first ability you’ll probably see him cast is an AoE ability called “Quake”. Everyone in your party will have a dust cloud under their feet, and will take roughly 9000 damage a second on heroic if you don’t move out of the cloud. After the cast is finished, a total of 5 adds will spawn from the clouds (these still spawn even if you move out of the quake.) The adds will melee your tank for about 10k, so with 5 adds and the boss, your tank will need loads of healing. Don't kill the adds now though, you can, but it's easier to take care of them with a later mechanic.

To make the tank damage even worse, the boss will randomly do a “Mortal Strike” which will reduce healing your tank receives by 25%. Because of this, you will want to use a defensive cooldown when the adds are up because your tank will get completely wrecked without one.

The third and final mechanic is something called “Chains of Woe”. At 66% and 33% the boss will summon everyone into melee range, chain them in place, and start casting something called “The Skullcracker”. Your first instinct will be to AoE the chains down, but this is wrong. The chains count as one mob, and should be single targeted (I’d suggest using a "/target Chains" macro). After you break the chains, run out about 20 yards away from the boss, and you won’t get hit by the bosses Skullcracker. Now, you're probably wondering by this point what you do with the adds that you just left up. Well, the Skullcracker can hit the adds too, so just leave them up until he casts it, and they're all toast. If you kill 10 of the adds this way, you even get an achievement. Good luck!

As a average ilvl 264 geared paladin tank this boss hits very weak. At about 60% boss hp my entire group was killed by the "chains of woe" ability. We were all in vent and they started asking me why i wasn't dead about 2 minutes later.
Using 3 holy power word of glory heals and rotating cooldowns for the other chains of woe i kept myself up easily. The rest of the group ran back in and we finished killing the boss. I think even without them running back i could have finished the fight.

Clear the adds in the front half of room before the fight. Move out of the dust clouds. Adds spawn in the dust clouds, have the tank pick them up. When he puts the group in Chains of Woe, dps down the chains and then get away from the boss before he does his AOE cleave.

HEROIC MODE:

This requires a mage or anything that can aoe stun/snare.

Do not kill the adds. Stack on tank right before quake and let him aggro them. After he does his chain, nuke it down, freeze the adds and run away. The boss will one-shot the adds.

This guy is solo-able in normal mode as a prot pally in 333/346 gear. I just used seal of insight and kept my health up with WoG heals and avoided his quakes. You don't have to worry about his skullcracker move because WoG easily heals you up in between him using it.

Not sure if anyone has said this, but don't kite the guy into a corner. Occasionally, when he summons the chains, it can put you inside a rock, or mess up your camera so you can't actually target the damn things.

So apparently the % of drops is completly off, because I'm seeing everything in heroic has over 100% chance drop rate.

I just came here to say that I really hate his Chains of Woe. It's really unfairly unforgiving. As a hunter it's also especially hard to DPS down as we can't even shoot things close to us. Also, if the group is not experienced at it, what will happen is you will break out but you won't be able to get out of range in the 5 seconds of time you have and everyone will get insta-wiped anyway.

Did this 3 times in a row before my entire group (which had been doing fine leading up to then) said "f*** this sh**" and dropped group.

Really NOT fun, blizz. Just sh*tty all around, at the very least it should only take say 80% of your health so if you have a good healer at least you might be able to power through a mistake or so.

It seems poor guy didnt want this job or he is enslaved by Cho'gall like the rest of "brute" ogres in Twilight's Hammer .

First time i was at him (in beta) i almost piss myself laughing (we wiped on Skullcracker and quote "That what u get! NOTHING!" was being spamed which infuriated 2 of my guildies who had reputation of being loot #$%^&s which added even more giggles to the lulz)

Solo'd as an 85 BM Hunter with a Turtle and 2xT5. Average iLVL 329. Just save your Bestial Wrath for the chains and you can kill them quickly to get out of the first one. And make sure when he hits 33% that you have full focus and unload on the chains for the second one. Was relatively easy overall.

Got this guy down to about 20% and then the Priest went down along with the rest of the party. I had to finish it off solo as an 82 prot pally. Didn't need to pop HoP just blast away and keep healing yourself. Not too hard.

The only thing his character model needs is a spear. You know, I think it would go well with the comically oversized lips and primitive getup.

I wonder if Levitate will work for a priest when he does the earthquake AOE. Anyone try that?

Rom'ogg is easily soloed in Heroic Mode, as a blood dk. I soloed him today, with Flask of Steelskin and dk class specific buffs.

Only a few things to be alert for...

-Making sure he is far enough so that his Call for Help ability won't bring in adds, when pulled
-Moving out of the burrowed ground when he uses Quake
-killing the only add spawned by Quake
-killing the Chains of Woe
-moving to a distance great enough to avoid Skullcracker after destroying the chains

I never dropped below 50% health
