Anhuur, as well as his achievement , are likely a very obscure Tolkien reference. "The Music of the Ainur" is his creation myth, and is the first chapter of The Silmarillion. (I'd hate to be in the "is this a reference to?" club but this strikes me as likely, but non-obvious).

~~Everyone jump down to snake pit~~ Scratch that, its easier if you go 2 on each side, healer stays top OR if you have correct ranged dps, 2 jump down, ranged at top aggros snakes.
One person click lever, others kill snakes
Go back to boss and interrupt the cast

Also did this on heroic today. Was quite easy to be honest.

He will cast Divine Reckoning on a random player that needs to move away from the rest for obvious reasons.
Not sure if Reverberating Hymn can be interrupted, I guess it is (judging from the post above).
We had one person drop down on each of the sides to pull the lever, when he activated his Shield of Light. It takes 8 seconds of channeling to pull a lever (if I'm not mistaken). So make sure you take care of any snakes before you start channeling, because you'll just be interrupted.

NORMAL MODE:

Fight begins as a tank and spank. Everyone run in, start blowing him up.

After some time, he will cast Shield of Light which will make him immune to damage, and also begin casting Reverberating Hymn, which damages everyone in his LoS for small damage every second.

To deactivate the shield, two DPS classes will need to jump down off the sides of his platform, and click the two levers. This will turn off his shield. Anyone with an interrupt will then need to interrupt Reverberating Hymn.

Repeat until dead.

Heroic Strategy

Your healer should be dispelling the magic debuff he places on his random target immediately.

Keep an eye out for blue fire.

He will shield himself twice. This time, everyone must drop down to the bottom floor. Two DPS unable to pick up the snakes fast enough with AoE need to be on both sides right-clicking on the switches (this is a 10 second cast to use these switches. Any damage from the snakes will interrupt it). Your tank on one side and a DPS on the other should be picking snakes up off the switches and gather up for AoE while getting back up the stairwell. Whoever can interrupt the boss should, and rinse and repeat.

Heroic Strategy

I did this on heroic the other day with: Warrior (Tank), Paladin (Healer), SPriest, Rogue, Hunter

During P1 everyone just moved out of the *!@#, I think I dispelled something, it generally wasn't very hard.

When he went immune the Rogue and Hunter jumped off the left side of the platform, the Rogue killing snakes while the Hunter clicked the pylon. The tank, SPriest, and myself all jumped off to the right of the platform, the tank aggro'd all the snakes off the SPriest, and then I and the tank ran over to the other side to grab those snakes, and we all met up again at the top.

Incidentally we also recieved the 'I hate this song' achievement.

Just did it on Heroic and everybody jumped down on the left side, tank aggroed the snakes other people that are not on the lever helped dps them then after first lever was pulled we moved on to right side and did same thing. Then we went up stairs and finished off the snakes and interupted the boss.

If you interrupt him while people are downstairs i think more snakes spawn?

On heroic an Protection Warrior can vigilance a dps and machine gun taunt the snakes, freeing up two dps to take the other side. Makes it drastically easier.

Okay, since these comments are flooding with poor strategies I am going to post the by far best one and hopefully I'll see it used more in PUG's.

Prior to the hymn, have 1 DPS AoE both sides to pull the 4 snakes from each that will aggro lever pullers. Then when the hymn comes, the other 2 DPS (and no one else) jump down and pull the levers completely unmolested. Hopefully you left an interrupter upstairs, and now you interrupt the Hymn after ~13 seconds which will get you the non-bugged achievement too. The tank picks up the snakes that come for the AoE'ing DPS'er and just tank them until the boss is dead - if you don't kill them, they will not respawn for the second hymn.

Pros:
- Minimal snake damage taken, because they will be running up the long stairs to reach the AoE'er and easily picked up by the tank.
- Minimal hymn damage taken, because you'll interrupt it extremely fast.
- Minimal positioning drama, because he will not be running all around the room to reach the tank after getting interrupted.

Cons:
- I'm dying to hear them.

If you have a rogue, you can just have rogue use Tricks on tank right befor jump, jump to right, FoK snakes to tank and deal with 1 lever. Meanwhile the group jumps to left, tank takes snakes and 1 DPS takes 2nd lever. Group up at middle while dealing with snakes, everyone will be at LoS of healer. Run back up together, rogue can sprint up and kick the Hymn or ranged can interrupt it.

I guess Healer and 1 DPS could stay up too, but we had whole group jump because, well, what's there to lose. You still take minimal damage.

This worked with around ilvl 332 group

Tip for Hunters to try (or tell the hunter in your party to try)

You can solo the one side and let your group do what they want with the other lever.
Step 1) Hunter gets assigned to handle left lever, solo.
Step 2) Fight the boss on the left side of the platform, face the boss but have your back aimed toward the wall next to the lever (not the pillar itself).
Step 3) Hop backwards, hit disengage. You can fly to the wall, slide down, drop a trap at the lever. You should only get one snake and the trap will handle that.
Step 4) When done, run back up, feign death and all the snakes you pulled running out should reset unless someone else got on their aggro table.

Properly done, this frees up people to handle the snakes on the right, or to have someone camped on the boss ready to interrupt the hymn for the achievement. Hope this helps.

The strategy described by Enquillion looks like it might work well, but this is perfectly easy to do on heroic if the whole group goes down into the pit when he casts Shield of Light. You will then be out of LOS and not get hit by Reverberating Hymn. Kill all the snakes, pull both levers, run back up, repeat.

Just downed this boss + achievement. Setup was:
Frost DK
Feral Druid
Enhancement Shaman
Blood DK (me)
Holy Paladin

Some tips if you have a melee heavy group:
With 4 people within a 10 yard radius of the boss, avoiding AoE was hard. I found that tanking him next to a pillar, and then moving him to another one on the same side to be effective. In addition, I found that dropping a Death and Decay on top of one lever before running to jump off the other side to Blood Boil some snakes to be very effective indeed. Our Frost DK found that casting Hungering Cold just before pulling the lever made the whole thing easier. I found picking the snakes up easier, too.
Hope this helps anyone struggling to do this encounter.

Did a new tactic for this one today to get I hate that song. Tactic:

1) Tank jumps down and collects the snakes prior to engaging Anhuur
2) Tank pulls Anhuur and DPS ignores snakes entirely
3) When Anhuur shields, 2 DPS run for the levers
4) Tank or remaining DPS interrupts Reverberating Hymn
5) Repeat for the second shield

Remember that as long as the snakes aren't killed, no new ones will spawn. Having no snakes in the pit will make pulling the levers an easy task. Damage from the snakes should be healed, so this tactic puts somewhat more strain on the healer.

Another slightly variant strategy to deal with the shield phase:

Have the tank, one DPS capable of interrupts, and the healer stay up top.

Have one DPS go left, one DPS go right, instruct the DPS jumping down NOT to touch the snakes (Or in certain cases misdirect them)

Have the healer heal the DPS on one side, and the tank/DPS aggravate the snakes on the other side.

Due to healing threat the snakes on the healer side will immediately make their way up the platform to where the tank/healer are and the tank can pick them all up.

You can now choose to AoE the snakes down or let the tank hold them for the second shield phase.

After doing this boss numerous times on heroics, I'm a big fan of the "2 team" strategy. I've even seen a warlock or hunter manage to solo the switch using this method. The basic goals of this strategy are:

- minimal snakes by hugging the outer wall
- don't fight snakes down below
- speed in getting the two switches thrown

Prior to the pull, assign two players to each side. The tank + someone, and the other two DPS. If you can, leave an interrupt up top to stop the hymn as early as possible. One person is assigned to grab snakes, the other is assigned to throw the switch as soon as it is safe.

(On heroic mode, the switch is an 8-second cast that is easily interrupted if the person gets hit by a snake. Which is why you need a 2nd person or pet to grab the attention of the snakes.)

When the singing starts, do not jump from the boss platform down to the switch. This results in extra snakes gnawing at your heels. Instead, run back up the ramp/bridge to the stairs. Then jump down onto the middle landing of the stairs. This lets you hug the outer wall to get to the switch.

The guard person (or pet) needs to aggro all of the snakes that are near the switch or that will aggro onto the person throwing the switch. Wait 2-3 seconds for the switch to start being thrown (making sure that there are no other snakes nearby), then run back upstairs with the snakes trailing behind. Do not try and kill snakes down below, pull them back up to the bridge before you engage them. If you do it right, you will end up with only 3-4 snakes from each side being dragged back up top. If someone comes back up with 5-6 snakes from their side, they're doing it wrong.

As soon as both switches are thrown, interrupt the boss to stop the singing, kill the snakes, then go back to DPS'ing the boss.

Repeat the process for the 2nd hymn.

General mistakes:

- Switch-thrower gets attacked and interrupted.
- Players trying to kill snakes down below before throwing the switch.
- Players trying to solo the snakes instead of bringing them upstairs.
- People jumping from the boss platform, resulting in extra snakes.
- Not hugging the outer wall, resulting in face-pulling of extra snakes from under the bridge.

Other notes:

- Warlocks can use their Infernal to aggro snakes while they throw the switch.
- Hunters and warlocks can easily use their pets to grab the 2-3 snakes while they throw the switch. (Possibly undead DKs and frost mages too.)
- While most people leave the healer up top, nobody should be staying down below long enough to die. Grab snakes, run back up top immediately after you have their attention.

Paladins! It seems like you can operate the lever while under the effects of Divine Shield or Hand of Protection. It won't let you solo a side on heroic, but if people are having difficulty with the strat you're attempting to use, it can buy you some time for someone else to aggro the snakes off you.

If anyone is interested, this is a nice, tricky encounter for hunters to solo, and a good test for your pet control skills. Did it as BM Hunter ilevel 387, on normal, so this rather lengthy guide is for BM.

There are two types of beasts you'll need:

Spirit beast, otherwise you just won't live through the Reverberating Hymn phase (and snakes poison if you get any on you). MM has a clear advantage here when it comes to interrupting Anhuur's song after the levers are pulled, but you just can't do this fight without a spirit beast as will become obvious later on.

Tenacity pet, preferably Turtle or Beetle, as Shell Shield/Harden Carapace can your save life here (explained below).

Phase 1: Basic tank'n'spank, with tanking pet. Remember to keep Mend Pet up, avoid the Burning Light, Shell/Last Stand when necessary.

Phase 2: This is where things get tricky. Once he starts his song, you do two things immidiately: stop attacking Anhuur and Dismiss Pet. The reason for the Dismiss is that you have to jump down and if you do that with the pet still up it'll have to run all the way around down the stairs, wasting time you don't have here. So you dissmis your tank pet and jump down. At the top of the stairs you call your Spirit Beast (make sure you stopped attacking the boss, otherwise the pet will run back up to attack it) and send it down first, making it pull the snakes while you range them off. It's important to kill all of them because you don't want their DoT on you as well as the DoT from the Hymn. You have to do this part as quickly and efficiently as possible. Kill every snake you see, their DoT hurts. Don't use any dps cd here (you won't need it anyway, the snakes get one-shot), save them all for phase 3.
Pop Spirit Mend whenever it's off cd, and use it early, don't wait for your hp to go down. You can't use bandages as long as the Hymn DoT is up, and this is why you can't do this without Spirit Mend. You might live through the downstairs part without it, but after that you have a boss to kill, too...

Phase 3: after the levers are pulled, you start running back up (could pop an ice trap to slow snakes down), target the boss and send your pet to attack it. The pet runs faster than you, and will start dpsing the boss before it's even in your LoS. This is where Silencing Shot would be useful, as both Intimidate and Scatter Shot don't interrupt him. Too bad you can change specs mid-battle. So just ignore the cast and nuke Anhuur with every dps cd you have. Now it's just a question of living through the Hymn (remember Spirit Mend).
Either two things will happen: you'll kill him before he finishes casting, or he'll finish casting and start attacking your pet. You can either try to have your Spirit pet tank him to a finish or, with 3-4 seconds left on Hymn cast, switch back to turtle. If you're at low health at this point, you can use Shell Shield to give you a few precious seconds to slap on a bandage (no DoT now).
If your dps isn't high enough to kill Anhuur after the first Hymn cycle, the second is just a repeat of Phases 1-3.

This sounds very elaborate, and wiser players than I might know simpler ways to to this (please share!), but as long as you're efficient and quick and pay attention to the details, the execution part is pretty straightforward.
