It's from when the Eredar first met the Naaru. As in, back when Velen was still hanging with his homeboys, Archimonde and Kil'jaeden (although I think they were already passing out drunk in his lawn at this point).

Just like to point out to those complaining about the duration of the scene/effect.
Yes, it's quick, but the cooldown is a mere 3min! Which is pretty awesome considering the cooldown of the transformation items.

4-5mins after I got this item, C'thun whispered(audio, in-game) me my heart would explode.

Confused, it might not be this item, but I have no nerubian items, was sure only they would have the C'thun whispers?

This 'problem' I mentioned above lies in a new version of DBM Addon, where a box is checked off for 'Making Archy more interesting'-having C'thun w/ you everytime you get a keystone in your bags....now imagine collecting 20 off AH and having C'thun on a loop.....

This is exactly why people think archaeology is a waste of time. You spend hours grinding away to get a rare artifact and it turns out to be... nothing. It's a bit like entering the lottery, you put in, put in and put in - get the odd token reward to keep you going in the hope that one day, it will all be worth it. Someone in Blizzard has an odd sense of humour.

I discovered that if you use the item just over a ledge of some sort with stairs close by, the little draenei will fall, and scramble up the steps before they vanish.

As much as I raged when I first used the artifact and watched the scene, I came to realise that WoW is a roleplaying game. And if I were roleplaying an archaeologist who had just discovered a long sort after artifact containing a holographic recording of a recount of the arrival of the Naaru, I would be pretty stoked to have found this.

After reading a ton of comments, I felt like I was going crazy because I couldn't find the appropriate checkbox on my DBM. Turns out they took it out and packaged it as a separate addon, DBM-Archaeology.

From Curse:

Originally just put in DBM-Core as a bit of humor during a test phase. The sounds became quite popular and when removed from last DBM release got numerous requests from users wanting them back. Since archaeology sounds don't really belong in the base mod, I decided to bring that feature back in plugin form!.

Now you can enjoy all your old god whispers in your dig sites. What this mod does is play a random C'thun and Yogg Saron whispers from the game files any time you loot a keystone. Archaeology is a profession meddling with the ancient artifacts of azeroth yet no one is paying any mind ot you. This plugin gives archaeology a bit of RP when the old gods whisper you as if they are noticing you meddling with things you should not be, giving archaeology that feel it should have had to begin with.

Hopefully that will save someone the stress of thinking they just couldn't see what was right in front of them, which is the problem I thought I was having.

I have to agree with many on here, there's no way to describe just how underwhelming this item is, even with the new buff of more artifacts per dig, it still takes a bit to get them because there are far fewer sites than on the other continents. I understand that "fun items" shouldn't have to last hours to make it worth it, but it specifically says "witness a recording of the arrival of the naaru", the problem is, we have no clue what we're looking at, it's just a random Naaru and 3 random Draenei that kneel down to it, THIS EXPLAINS NOTHING! Even the description of the item itself is so vague that it offers nothing on the history of the recording. I'm sure there is a Draenei somewhere that could help you decipher what is being "said" (only if something was really being spoken).

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, I understand that "if I don't like it, don't do it", but I do get the archeology bug once in a while and it can be fun to make a bit of extra gold... but after you've literally spent hours to get a rare item that almost does nothing, it's kinda upsetting. I don't like to look up the item that I'm working on, opting to keep it as a surprise... only after I've completed it do I look it up to get a better explanation, but usually finding people are just as confused as me.

This ranks right up there with the other artifacts that last just a couple seconds, but take hours to cool down (this one being an exception with only a 3min CD), some are fun, like the Vrykul drinking stein, it actually does SOMETHING or the haunted war drum (as long as you have music turned on).

I've been under the impression (and it may be terribly obvious) that blizz has different teams for things like this and we're seeing the really bad items made up by one of those teams while other teams have all the awesome things.

Anywho, I'm gonna keep picking away (pun!) 'cause I still have two mounts and a pet to find and one day, they shall be mine!

What would really have made this worthwhile is if this "find" also acted as a quest item... a chain of quests to unearth more about the coming of the Naaru -- perhaps identifying the Naaru and the three Draenei who greeted this particular Naaru and something about their roles in Draenei early history. Now THAT would be archaeology.

Gift of the Naaru & this share a 3 min CD for a good reason, they are to be used together.

Remind yourself that worshipping some symbol gives you a heal.
