Broken in patch 9095 - instead of creating carpet then mounting it, you just create carpet which then behaves like a vanity pet - following you around on ground (yup, kek).

What's more, every time you fire a skill new carpet is created, without limit. I suppose that coul be used to crash servers, but also makes pretty caleidoscope - type pictures when you summon enough, and then move backwards ;P

It's official: my warlock's first mission in WotLK is to craft this carpet; if not for the coolness, then for the Disney references.

If engineers can get an achievement for their choppers, there should be some sort of achievement for getting one of the carpets, especially with a Alladin themed name, such as "Show You the World".

There seems to be a slight issue with the "new mounts", they are not mounts even thou they are on the mount tabs. So I had to adjust my mount macro to "dismount" from my carpet (ie use cancelaura)

/cast Swift Razzashi Raptor
/cancelaura Magnificent Flying Carpet
/dismount

So for a quick explanation what each line does -- change the names depending on your mounts etc;
1. show icon for rug
2. if you hold down control i use the magic carpet.
3. if i dont hold down controll i use my raptor land mount.
4. "dismount" the magic carpet
5. dismount landmount.

Just got this mount, and I noticed a very cool bug with it. If you mount the carpet first, then mount the Headless Horseman Mount, it will actually mount on top of the carpet and the carpet will turn into a vehicle with approximately 8k hp. Only works with headless horseman mount from what I can tell

I had the bright idea of logging out on this tonight, and upon logging back in. It disappeared out from under me(it's classed as a vechical). Unfortunately I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but owners beware. Less you find yourself plummeting towards the ground.

Your mount have health like a pet has under your character portrait
You have to dismount, before making any actions on the mount, which also takes longer time and you can not fly and dismount and still keep runing, you have to stand still for a second
Your mount has a dismiss button in the left corner of your screen
When you use your mount, your angleview shifts, so you see whats in front of you
If you log-out during your flight and then return, you will dismount and see your corpse

Some of them are minor and some are major, but this mount is like a vehicle, and I am not sure if it is meant to be in that way, but it would be better if it was like the other flying mounts.

I have recently stumbled upon a bug (I guess) with this mount. You will need The Horseman's Reins.

If you mount up on your carpet and then click on your HH mount, you will not dismount from the carpet. You will be able the fly around on your HH mount and carpet.

I have tried this with a bunch of other mounts and the lower level carpet. This is the only combination that seems to work.

EDIT: I just tried dismounting from the carpet in mid air. When I do, the HH mount disappears as well the carpet and I'm left to fly around... with no mount.

Since this mount is actually a vehicle, you cannot cast to dismount (something I commonly do), it takes a moment to get off of it, and you also cannot trade with someone while mounted.

A very cool looking mount, but rather annoying to ride. Definitely not worth using if you're grinding.

As much as I do love this mount, I'm not entirely sure why they made it a vehicle. They claim that it's fully intentional, I just don't understand why it was nessesary. The Mammoth comes with passenger seats and vendors so that makes sense, but this one is a solo-adventure with no room for Jasmine to lounge on it. So why then? Was it just because the character needed to be standing?
Also, I'm pretty sure Aladdin never logged off the Agrabah server only to find himself falling to his doom when coming back.

You can mount up on this in the Magus Commerce Exchange in Dalaran (Alliance) but if you leave the Exchange you will get the Restricted FlyZone debuff and dismount.

Not sure if its the same on horde side.

You can mount up on those flying carpets while beeing in Dalaran.
Tested it on the Runeweaver Square in the middle and right in front of the north bank.
There could be more places.

You have 10sec to get out of Dalaran, leave the zone, or to dismount. Same as when flying into Dalaran.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but this carpet doesn't act as a typical mount, it is it's own entity and

a. Will drop you if you log off on it
b. Shows up on your minimap as a party member
c. won't dismount you if you try to use an item, it'll say "You can't do that right now" and you have to dismount yourself.

I noticed today when flying around with my Paladin friend, that this carpet does not get help from crusader aura, although your character shows it as active in your buffs. Must be a vehicle thing.

Also, I've been using the dismount feature to jump myself into Meeting stones, and other places i'm not "supposed" to be. Haven't found any good locations to use it yet though.

With this carpet you can complete your Mine sweeper achievement in area K3 in storm peaks. Mount up and fly to the minefield and land on the ground and just go over the bombs. You stay mounted, only take a little damage and you will get the achievement completed. I just did it myself, which I am surprised it worked. So glad I tried this my first attempt rather then actually dismounting and trying to hit 10 mines without landing over and over.

This is seriously the most overpowered !@#$ I have ever seen in the history of WoW. Instead of whining about it though, I am literally abandoning leatherworking as a moonkin and lvling my tailoring to 450. Both for the magic carpet and because there is no flipping spellpower in leatherworking.

i made this mount at level 77 and noticed what I can only presume is a bug, when I target and alliance player whilst mounted(I am horde) their name plate goes from red (enemy) to green (friendly player).
even then when I dismount the enemy player still shows a green (friendly) name plate, and even after that player engages in combat with me - i can not engage them back. anyone else had a problem like this?

Here are all of the "unusual" properties I've seen regarding this mount. I will edit more as I come across them:

Many effects that would normally dismount you against your will, causing you to fall, do not seem to harm the carpet. This includes flying mobs, those annoying Fel Cannon blasts, and even Captain Skyshatter himself! Yes, thats right folks. When on this carpet you are invulnerable to their attacks.
NPC's that normally "follow" you from the ground behave strangely when you are on the carpet. Note that this seems to only impact ones that count as "companions". Instead of following you like normal, the pet will "jerk" to your location, even in the air - seemingly flying alongside you instead of from the ground. What this effectively means is that companion pets will ALWAYS stay with you regardless of how fast you fly or how high up when on the carpet ;)
You are allowed to mount up in areas where other flying mounts are not. These include portions of the Dalaran sewers (Underbelly), Magus Commerce Exchange, Portal areas, and the corner "Park" areas in Dalaran.
You can assist in a summon while on the carpet. This includes meeting stones and other forms of summoning.
Priests can keep levitate while on the carpet. Normally this is dispelled when you use a regular mount. Your character animation will act a little strange.
On regular mounts, you are allowed to open containers (in your bag). You cannot open containers on the magic carpet.
The very useful "auto dismount in flight" preference has no impact on the carpet. In fact, macros with /dismount in them also have no effect.
Mount "transformation" effects will not work on the carpet. That is, you will keep your carpet when you are doing the netherwing dailies.
The carpet will disappear on logout. This is certainly a problem if you log out high in the air.

The Brazier of Dancing Flames (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=34686) works on your carpet.

Use the item which drops the pedestal, mount on your carpet. Target the Dancing Flame on top of the pedestal and /dance with it. 3 min buff and you can fly around as a flaming dancing female dreanei.

I reached to do this achievement after a while, I tried to get a lof of lags but I couldnt get more than 800 1100 ms, I tried different approaches, ground mount, flying mount, and the best I came up is the flying mount, you have to fly close to the ground, very fast without touching the ground, and eventually you are going to fire a lot of mines, try to find a good line of mines, around the middle

took me a lot of times thoo, the best I could do is 7 a lot of times, getting more is hard

but dont listen the above comments like "dont worry just get 3-4 mines, then run to a next set of mines", this is bul&*!@, it doesnt work, once you hit the ground the UI knows it, I'm not sure, how you want to run to get another set if u alrdy touched the ground...

So, confirmed you can get on the Blizzcon bear mount. You can then also get into your Blizzcon Murloc costume. It also appears that while in Runeweaver square, you can fly as much as you want without getting dismounted. So, you can fly pretty high up, and get a good view of all the city, on your bear, as a Murloc.

You can also call out your Blizzcon pet, Murky, beforehand. He glitches, though, and is constantly falling from the carpet.

I wish they would put a carpet into the game that worked like the Traveler's mammoth, except you could only allow one other passenger. The npc placeholder would be a small monkey named uba, or something (like abu. sells fruit?). The tool-tip could say "every moment red-letter!", because that's apparently the next line in "A Whole New World" after "Don't you dare close your eyes."

The passenger would probably have to have expert riding, of course.

This is not as good as I had hoped. The delay when dismounting makes it a disadvantage while grinding and you can't use a cast to dismount (competing for mobs for dailies etc). I have gone back to my old griffin.

As of 3.0.8

All flying carpets are now classified as mounts and act as such. They are also affected by mount speed enhancers properly, such as a paladin's crusader aura. This also means that there is no extra time on the dismount. Although you can get an amusing swimming animation if you dismount midair while moving. It also allows you to log out while on the carpet and not have to fear falling to your death on loggin

Only the Flying Carpet and Magnificent Flying Carpet are available. The various 'flavors' are not yet available in game.

Something weird happens with this.

In the netherwing island, when you are transformed into Fel Orc, your mount gets replaced by the Netherdrake.
But your carpet doesn't. It stands as another mount. So you have 2 mounts at same time.

You will stay "On your feet" like you would on the carpet, but on the Netherdrake's chair!

And if you right-click the carpet...

Most of these comments are outdated since this mount functions like a regular mount now, not a vehicle. There however still an issue. First, I have this on my dk so I don't know how if that affects it. When I'm on my mount it looks like I'm surfing on the carpet, to others though it apparently shows up as if I was sitting and my butt hangs out. Pretty lame.

Second, this is the only mount I have that lets me switch to another mount while in the air. I have the bronze drake and winged steed and can switch to either in midflight. This also has the side effect of not removing this mount as currently in use, thereby giving you two mount buffs. If I right click the carpet it will switch to the winged steed and look like I'm surfing on it. If I right click the carpet while at ground level, the winged steed glitches and disappears. It then looks like you are swimming through the air and is pretty awesome. Unfortunately this is a client only glitch, so to others it looks like you are mounted as usual.

I believe it has to act as a vehicle to show your character in the nonstandard standing position. Regular mounts all have you seated in the same way, with the same animation.

As of patch 3.3, it now acts as a normal flying mount with all the functionality. Hooray!

You can get the mount engineering and tailoring, but involves a long and expensive process, I got both mounts with my Warrior, When I got to 375 I made the mounts, then removed it and started to increase my skill in Tailoring, Patience and Money are the only requests to pick these beautiful horses.

WORDS OF WARNING, do NOT do the same thing as me and f*** up by having an alt make these to send to your main if you plan on dropping after adding to your mountain counter and might as well have your alt level. Some might not notice but unlike the engineer mounts which I was comparing it to, these are BIND ON PICKUP so you will need to gather the mats all over again. Currently have a ticket out, will post again if by some miracle the gms took pity.

Anyways, just thought someone might be saved from the same mistake and could benifit from my failure. (btw alt duznt have epic flying so the items are just a nonstop insult to me...)

since artisan riding makes all of your old mounts go 280% flight speed, is there any practical advantage to crafting this? it's not going to go any faster than the flying carpet you created at level 60, will it? 12 bolts of imbued frostweave seems like a pretty steep material expense just so you can have a carpet that is a different color...

Everyone thinks having the rarest colored Drake makes others drool in awe. Everytime time I'm in Org there are usually ten people mounted on their drakes of various colors, thinking to themselves:

"yes peons, I'll bless you with my sheer awesome, awesomeness, be careful though such raw awesomeness can be dangerous! My godly awesomely, awesome, awesomeness has caused people to pass out, unable to handle my god like awesomelyfantasticness...wow I'm awesome!"

In Reality, people are thinking:

"looks like another another noob got their drake last night.../golfclap...."

Then out of the corner of their eye, they see and think:

WTF, WAIT, What the hell was that! OMG AN F'ING FLYING CARPET, THAT'S AWESOME!"

For how long have engineers been able to make 'flying machines'? i mean...yet another AWESOME way to get around. And now the Mechno-Hog (motorcycle). Guess what, i have an engineer w/ flying machine and will have the 'bike'. simply put, if you want something like that, make a tailor, switch to tailor... or engineer for those things... but for pete's sake.. people that invest that much time and money into a skill DESERVE show off creations.
