Judged by it's "Use" ability, It will seem knock you up to the sky.

Since the value of knock back on the effect divided by 3 is equal to yards, it should will knock you up by 41.6666 to 58.3333 yards.

since 41-58 yards is not fatal, I wonder will this gnomish device provide safe fall?

Not worth a trinket slot and having to wait 30sec for it to be useable. This should have been an item (usable from inventory). Blizzard really needs to stop putting non-combat items into trinket slots.

Trinkets were ORIGINALLY designed to be non-combat items, until one actually gave stats and forced them to give future trinkets power. They're now used mostly as stat sticks with procs. Some of these procs are intended to be FUN; they're not all designed to be combat-oriented, because damn it, that's not what Engineering's about.

Here's what I picture it does based on the wording -- most of the time, it procs a parachute. You fall safely. Sometimes, it doesn't. You don't die (which would result in much QQ), but you take a pretty big HP hit. Thus, the ever-evolving Engineer etho of "If it can be made, it can kill you" is brought full circle.

At time of writing, the Gnomish Gravity Well "Requires Gnomish Engineering", unlike items such as Gnomish X-Ray Specs and Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan which require Gnomish Engineer instead.

The end result is that even as a Gnomish engineer with an engineering skill of 525, you cannot equip the trinket because: "You aren't skilled enough to use that item." -_-

Get it.... it's a useless piece of junk that weighs you down ;) and you only keep it in your bags temporarily so it's only weights you down temporarily. hence temporary gravity well.

My Gnome Mage Stingeywhim would like to report this trinket can be used as a doorstop, a bag slot filler, a paperweight, a paper cutter, an Elementium/Ether airplane (flys like a lead balloon), a trolling discussion,... Silly me I'm Illustrious Grand Master Gnomish Engineer and I thought I might actually use this after making it. What was I thinking? /Facepalm. Well we will not be able to bite above ankles for awhile longer.

P.S. It still doesn't work and when I put in a ticket they said developers are aware of it, and yet it still isn't fixed.

This does work on the 4.1 PTR as of build 13793. (Condition changed to Gnomish Engineer.)

It knocks you up into the air by 1-2 Night Elf heights. Has no CD, so you can hit it as fast as the GCD, bouncing higher and higher if you spam it. About 10% of the time it gives you the debuff 'Overheated', which disables the device for 15s.

It kills all forward velocity, so you can't run and Well-jump up onto things. But it does work while falling, so it could save you if your parachute cloak runs out of time.

Is not usable in Tol Barad or dungeons (tested in Violet Hold, Oculus, and Zul'Farrak - so being able to mount doesn't enable it). I'd guess it's unusable in BGs and Arena, too (not that you'd want to lose the trinket slot). It does work in buildings, however, so if you ever wanted to see the roof of the Stormwind Cathedral up close...

Visual looks like the Ultrasafe Transporter cast effect, except it's red.

Edited to add: Tested in Exodar and Azuremyst Isle - can't use it there, so I would imagine that any no-fly zone will disable it.

Using slow fall in conjunction with this will allow you to reach higher altitudes without getting the "over-heated" debuff

About to use your portal to Northrend? Don't have a parachute or slow fall? See if you have good enough timing, this baby will either eliminate fall damage, or you cast it too early and hold off death for two more seconds.

It works as of 4.1.0!

It has a 0 second CD after the intial 30 seconds after you equip it, but it's affected by the global CD. It launches you up slightly higher than a regular jump.

That's now the exciting part though! Since its CD is shorter than its affect you can use it every time off CD and you will start to rise up into the sky. I must say, 1000g well spent(?)

Good news, fellow Gnomish Engineers! This works in water, giving us the capability to get to the surface faster and as well avoiding drowning! This is also helpful when you are falling down and your parachute is on cooldown or you simply dont have one. Just use it a few seconds before you hit the ground. So far it appears this item is unusable in dungeons and raids.

If you want a better comparison between expansions, you have:

three of which were Engineering items, all of which are trinkets, and all of which had uses beyond fun. Conversely, there's World Enlarger which wasn't a trinket and had no real practical use.

Now, we have this, which is a (as mentioned) pretty useless, just-for-fun trinket, while:

which are somewhat more handy, don't need to be equipped.
Because it can't be used in many locations, and can't be used in combat according to other posts, one has to wonder what purpose this was meant to serve - A different option for Flexweave Underlay? Cloak enchant or a trinket slot?

It is fun to just play with when hanging out with your WoW friends.
If you're bored or waiting for a dungeon queue, just start spamming this in the middle of org/sw and watch everyone flock to you.
Its also quite fun as a goblin because if you hit this a few times in a row and then hit your rocket boots, it'll launch you two to three times as far as normal.

Like the guy two posts above me said,it will give you the debuff Overheated which lasts 15sec.
But unlike what he said, it doesnt just randomly give it to you.
It gives it to you if you hit it too often in a certain amount of time.
After messing with it a while, you'll find there is a pace that will let you consecutively hit it and you'll never get the debuff.
Unfortunately, the pace is too slow to keep going higher and higher but will still allow you to keep bouncing nonstop.

The thing that obviously sucks, like everyone else has been saying, is the fact that its a trinket.
It should be a Use item that just sits in your inventory.
There is no need for blizz to require items like this to be equipped to use.
This cannot help in any combat situation unlike High-Powered Bolt Gun which is a Use item.
If anything, High-Powered Bolt Gun should be a trinket since its only use is in combat.

You Jump in the air and you can't move in any direction... Good news iss you can fly indefinetly until it over heats! Wich has also a 75% chance I think.

After running a few tests, I've found out the following, and I'm sure most of this has been posted before:

- Does not work anywhere where flying is disabled.
- Stops all forward momentum when used.
- Can be used while in mid-air.
- Resets falling speed, can be used to stop fall damage if used well.
- Cannot be used in combat.
- Sometimes gives an Overheated debuff, a 15 second debuff disallowing the use of the Gravity Well for the duration.

In addition, I ran some tests, and tested 30 times for each, and it seems as though there is a much higher chance of receiving the Overheated debuff when you use the Gravity Well in mid-air, either starting while falling, or starting off of another Gravity Well proc.

Using from the ground:
4 Overheats
26 Non-overheats

Using from the air:
10 Overheats
20 Non-overheats

It's not a very accurate test, I'm sure, since it was only tested 30 times for each, a fairly small sample size, but based on these statistics, on the ground, there is a 13.33% (repeating, of course) chance of failure from the ground, and a 33.33% (also repeating, of course) chance of failure from the air. I'm sure the 13.33% is closer to 10%, if my prediction is correct.

Gnomish Gravity Wells brand new icon has arrived. And to all of you who are wondering about it's function; it simply shoots you up in the air. Good for avoiding fall damage if you don't already have the Flexweave Underlay.

Another great use for this is halting. if you rocket jump and use a parachute, you can use this to halt your forward momentum, which is great for stunts or getting to hard to reach areas

The gravity well is no longer a trinket and can be used directly from your bags. it's basically a second parachute cloak. When dropping from great heights you hit it right before impact and it'll pop you into the air and allow you to land safe and sound...assuming you don't lag out and go splat like I did.

Usable multiple times in rapid succession until it overheats. However, it CANNOT be used...

In Combat
In non-flying zones.
In Battlegrounds
In Instances
In Arenas
~~To reach the cookie jar on the top shelf~~ (With proper adjustments, this was found to be possible)
To outsmart Hogger
To break holes in a roof for a quick escape

But the good news is, I just saved 15% on dismemberment insurance by switching to Gnomish Engineering.

Contrary to popular belief, this item has very well proved to fly my character to fatal heights. I am a Shaman and the Gravity Well flew my character to an astounding 89 yards above the ground. Only to abruptly fall to my death. BUT NONETHELESS! This device can be fatal.

This item is actually pretty cool! It doesn't have a cooldown, but if you use many times in a row it will be come "overheated". It can be used to break your fall, and if used in succession it will take you higher and higher. However, it disables all lateral movement so you can't use it to jump onto a ledge or something. Be careful about going too high because it will overheat and stop working!

This item can be used to overcome Line of Sight issues; for example if you need to pull a mob but some stairs are in the way, you can "jump" up until you see it and then pull. But keep in mind that it cannot be used in instances or battlegrounds, greatly limiting the usefulness of this maneuver.

for a mage this is about as useful as a bikini wax in the north pole. its more of a convenience for other classes with no slowfall mechanics or invulnerabilities. like a priest can levitate and a paly can bubble. but, for example, a DK cannot do either of those. so if he teleports to gadgetzan and gets the malfunction where he is falling to his death, he can use this as a permanent alternative to wasting mats to enchant their cloak with parachutes every time they get a new one.

Found an actual use: When you use Wormhole Generator: Northrend, and get the underground option, instead of hearthing out like usual, you CAN gravity well out if you can get enough clicks in before triggering cooldown. You rocket out of the grate at the top safely into Dalaran.

I wish you could move forward when you use this, like when you jump normally. I was hoping when i make this, it would launch me high into the air like when the nitro boosts are faulty ( There would be uses for that, especially for mages that have great uses. I was hoping to use it for pvp and annoy a lot of people.) Quite disappointing, wish it had more uses then a last second safefall...

It can be used WITHOUT removing the parachute from the Flexweave Underlay. So you can chain jump while falling slowly.

Since no one has mentioned it. This object does the opposite of what a gravity well should do, no matter anti-gravity well doesn't have the same ring. This is referenced not only in science but also in fiction. Star Trek: Voyager in Episode 13 of Season 5 encountered one of these phenomenons while exploring a planet. The gravity well should increase the escape velocity of the item, ship, or person from an object of greater mass.

Essentially this item should compress the user. I suppose it only makes sense that Gnomes were behind this if they've made this many mistakes with their items.
