These are also caught from "The lurker belows pond" In SSC - In order to kill the 2nd boss - you have to fish him - failing to summon him - this is the most common fish.

Well I wrote "here" as a reply to mrbach when I clicked reply to his post, but since it's not letting me do that for some reason, I'll just have to specify where "here" is. I'm speaking of Alterac Mountains.

I've been fishing here for a about 20 mins and all I have caught so far is 2 Raw greater sagefish and about 19 Raw Mithril Head trout, as well as 14 Raw Bristle whisker catfish, and a 26 Pount Catfish.

I'm tryinng to reply to mrbach up there, but it just adds my comment to the bottom. Why won't it let me reply?

I like STV for fishing these up. It's a popular area, so on a PvP server you'll probably have to be careful of roaming gankers, but along the river you can find oodles of schools of these fish. I used to run from one end of the stream to the other, fishing every spot that showed up, and catching upwards of 60 of them by the time I got to the other end. What you don't cook, you can sell raw for plenty of gold. About 30G per stack on my server. For fifteen minutes of work, that's not too shabby for a lowbie who can handle (or better yet, avoid) the mobs along the river.

Just like its smaller cousin the Sagefish, these fish can ONLY be found in schools of Greater Sagefish, and will NEVER appear outside of them as a 'random' catch.

By far easiest for me as horde was to go to Feralas. After the shattering the landscape has changed slightly, simply go to the lake up at Dream Bough, just at the border between Feralas & Desolace. Just run/fly around in circles around the lake and pick off the schools. No competition whatsoever and a fast spawnrate of schools.

Flying from Tanaris, I crossed into Thousand Needles and in the Southsea Holdfast (Bottom Right part of the map) there were 4 pools spawned in that small pool. Great spot and pretty abundant.

I went to Hillsbrad foothills, only found regular sagefish. Moved over to western plaguelands and found plenty of the greater sagefish.

If you're looking for an hour or so of peaceful fishing Moonglade is the place (no mobs trying to eat you and no players trying to beat you up). There is always a school of greater sagefish somewhere on the lake, usually several at the same time.
After about an hour this was my count:
100 greater sagefish.
14 iron bound trunks.
13 Rumsey rum.
12 Stranglekelp.
My fishing skill was about 140 when I started.

I have found the best place for me to fish for these is at the Blackwolf River in Windsheer Crag, Stonetalon Mountains. Its a small river with tons of fishing nodes all closely knitted together and respawn times are very quick too. Added bonus is to fish for the achievement: The Scavenger as there is usually a Schooner Wreckage that spawns in this river.

Thank you so much for your Infomation on the this location, it helped me a lot. Hes right and I definitly confirmed it, I went there with 125 Fishing skill and used the +75 bobber and i was fine! In 20mins i got 35 Sage Fish! Woooohooooo! Thank you again for taking the time to post your find!

As much as I hate to reveal this... Well what the hell, I'm not a gold seller so here it goes. This beauty sells for 400g on my high pop server. I can easily sell ten stacks in a month... That's a single farming session per month for an extra 4k gold. Pretty neat imho.

These are great for leveling cooking from 175-225, as you can buy the Sagefish Delight recipe from a fishing vendor, and it stays orange until 215, yellow until 225 and beyond. Plus they are very easy to farm by going around the lake in Moonglade.

Theres a vendor in Southshore too, the trade goods guy. As for finding the greater sagefish, haven't found any yet, only normal Sagefish.

I found that you could fish the regular Sagefish in any watery area of Ashenvale.

I also found a lot of regular Sagefish spots dotted up the river that is just east of Southshore in Hillsbrad.

There is around 5-8 Greater Sagefish spawn spots in the Lake Nezeriti (or something) in Stranglethorn Vale. I've fished around 100 or so there today, the spawn spots reappear pretty good if you're there questing aswell. I would guess it'd take longer for the spots to come back if you're just there to farm the fish.

There are not any in the Lake. They are only Sagefish Schools. Greater Sagefish only exist in STV as of this date.

Greater Sagefish can be fished from the western side of Alterac Mountains now. The simplest way to get to the right spot (for Horde, anyway) is to fly to Silverpine and go east across the lake. There are several Greater Sagefish nodes on the shore next to Dalaran (the big pink dome), and further north along the Misty Shore and that whole area.

There are hostile mobs in the buildings in this area, including one 33 elite in a house, so watch out for that. But for the most part, it's just passive turtles. Certainly safer than anywhere in STV, and less chance of getting ganked if you're on a PvP server.

I went up and down this coastline just once, fishing all the nodes until they were empty, and came back with a stack of Greater Sagefish, as well as some cloth and leather from the Floating Wreckage nodes. Nice spot.

There is several schools on Misty Shore. Need about 135 fishing, but without a bauble you'll need to skill up a little.

As for the guy $%^&*ing about locs in STV, how about you read the posts above you. Nessinwary's is right on a river. There are many schools of fish on the river that run through STV. Just follow the water man.

Did about 45 minutes fishing in Lordamere Lake on the Misty Shore trying to get to lvl 150 on my fishing skills. I only fished in the schools of Raw Greater Sagefish.This is what I caught:

4 Iron bound trunks (nothing much inside - a few weak potions and some various pieces of cloth)
14 Raw Bristle Whiskere Catfish
16 Raw Mithril Head Trout
6 Stranglekelp
23 Raw Greater Sagefish

That's a drop rate of about 36%.

If you're low, sure, alterac is the best, but if you're 50-60 go fish in stv. start at the top and work your way down both sides of the river next to grom gol.

aside from that, here's the best way to locate pools- swim underwater. you can miss pools from the top, but you can clearly see them from below. try it.

I took the advice of a few of the above posters and ran along Lordamere Lake in Alterac. Found about 12 schools and fished this out of them in approximately an hour.

69 Greater Sagefish
5 Rumsey Rum
5 trunks (all with either/or heavy leather, healing/mana potions, silk and money in them)
7 stranglekelp
Added 24 points to my fishing skill (136-160)

The only mobs around were in fact the turtles, but like one of the posters said, be careful around a house out there or those elites will eat you for dinner (if you're a level 30 like me anyway).

For those of you hunting the elusive Raw Greater Sagefish around UC area, I ran around the side of UC, went east across the lake into Alterac Mtns and fished the shoe there. Here are the exact locations of the pools I found:

37, 17 37, 19 35, 24 34, 27
31, 31 31, 32 27, 41 20, 49
18, 52 15, 52 13, 54.

There was some Floating Wreckage at 23, 45 as a bonus.

Best place to get these is the lurker below. Most of SSC fishing is highlevel, but the lurker below circle is really low, and you get these all the time.

STV - Just follow the river from Nessingwary's Expedition camp through Lake Nazferiti to just passed Mizjah Ruins. I had my "Find Fish" on and every yellow dot that turned up on my map was a Greater Sagefish School. Caught 30 in 15 minutes (incl. 5 trunks full of stuff), and gonna keep catching some more. =)

Another great way to locate fish schools is a book I found. Was fishing and got a waterlogged trunk, opened it up and founda waterlogged journal. The art of fish finding, it teaches you the skill Find: Fish and they show up on ur minimap as if you were a herbalist searching for herbs or a miner for veins. Is so friggin pimp!

Deffinatly in STV..... found anywere from the beggining of th lake near 'Nesingwary's Expedition', and anywere down the lake until it reaches the ocean.

Best way is to swim under water and find the schools

PS!... after 3-6 catches at a school, the school moves on so you have to find it again

PPS!... When fishinf at a school you will see a flashy circle on the surface of the water, this is were the school is and were you have to cast to catch a sagefish.... so just keep casting until you are in/around the edges of the circle :)

For those of you that cook, Sagefish Delight is good if you're gonna use it... if you plan to sell, don't bother, you're wasting money on the spices. Just sell the fish, you get the same sale value on Raw Greater Sagefish as you do for Sagefish Delight.

Take the zeppelin to Grom'gol base camp...

From Grom'gol, ss you travel north along the nearby stream you will see schools of greater sagefish, one after another.

Follow that stream to Lake Nezertini, you will find many schools there.

And beyond the Lake nearby Nesingwary's expedition you will find several more schools.

If you are looking for just plain sagefish, the stream in Hillsbrad foothills is the way to go

On the EAST coast of lordamere, you will find schools of "Greater Sagefish". I went back and forth started north of the misty coast and worked my way down. This is where the nodes were (I went up and down lake)

I just stopped there. There are passive turtles all along the lake and when you start I think the mobs around are around 40 so just stay close to the lake if your lower lvl. The 2 elites (in their 30's) Nancy and grampa (I think) stay in the cabin mostley, but nancy walks out to the dock. I just killed them for fun but its something to watch if you cant take 2 elites in their 30's. Happy fishing!

I searched all of the rivers in Strangle Vale looking for Greater Sagefish but only found (regular) Sagefish. So much for the easy way - LOL.

When you are at the correct area for the fish, you can see the areas they are swiming by finding a small school of fish or a blue sheen on the water. When you mouse over the area it will say it's Greater Sagefish.

The only problem after that is casting into the school.

Note: For some reason the Wowhead BfA link for Greater Sagefish keeps linking to the Wowhead Classic Greater Sagefish webpage. So make sure you're at the correct webpage for Greater Sagefish. Wow Bfa has Greater Sagefish at Western and Eastern Plaguelands but not Stranglethorn/Alterac.

As at Sept 2020 at least, the fish in Northern Stranglethorn are Sagefish not Greater Sagefish. Flew all the way from Wetlands to discover this.

It's true that the Raw Greater Sagefish are all up in down the river that goes through Stranglethorn Vale. However, they can only be caught in the whirlpools. Get a cast just a foot off the whirlpool and you're catching unwanted fish. If you're under level 30, this is not the place for you, as the surrounding creatures will rip you to shreds.

Occasionally there are debris patches that occur as well that reward the player with treasure boxes, items like leather and fabrics, gear level 25-30, as well as healing and mana potions... but keep in mind the Raw Greater Sagefish are ONLY in the whirlpools and NOT in the debris patches.

I fish this area a lot for farming, and it is very lucrative, but it seems there are certain times of the day where the river is just full of goodies and the fishing is more rewarding. So I wouldn't just hit it all at one time of day. Try morning, noon and night. It seems like the best fishing is around 9-11 O'Clock AM and PM.
