Generally bloated fish of any sort can be caught from open inland waters. For the bloated salmon, you can try:

* Burning Steppes
* Eastern Plaguelands
* Feralas (Jademir Lake only)
* Scholomance
* Silithus
* Stratholme
* Winterspring
* Zul'Gurub

Caught my Bloated Salmon at Jademir Lake, Feralas (49.17, 14.46), Caught mine after ~ 300 casts.

Well and truly over 300 casts for me, though the same location - Lake Jaedenir in Feralas.

My best "guess" would be in the region of 1000 casts (or thereabouts).

Contents were 1 x Azerothian Diamond.

Ok so I sat down and went for this achievement and then got to the one and only 1% fish needed, I started off in twilight vale in Blasted Lands. After nearly 800 casts in this location I had nothing so I went to Feralas in Jademir Lake, around 800 more casts and a few 15/18 pound salmon I still have nothing.

Note - the 15/18 Salmon did not count.

I'm currently on hold with this one as I've sent a GM ticket asking for verification that someone has actually fished this up since the patch because 1600 casts and no one getting one on wowhead is pretty much a joke ...

i can confirm that the fish is catchable.
i fished like ~3-4 hours at the little lake in blasted lands, tainted forest.

6208 casts in Feralas (Jademir) with no luck.
Switched to Blasted Lands (Tainted Forest) for a change of scenery and got it on my 483rd cast.

It's possible, just keep at it, good luck.

edit: The XX-pound Salmon definitely do not count.

Caught mine in the lake in the middle of the Tainted Forest. I was somewhere between 250-300 casts. I tried for a few hours just outside Surwich but then moved inland.

Got it on my 1801st cast, caught in Tainted Forest in Blasted Lands.

I must stay it was such an achievement finally see it in my bag, I just kept staring it for 10 minutes before I could believe my eyes.

Anyway don't give up on hope! I had already given up on hope while I surely shouldn't have!

I levelled my fishing from 508 to 513 trying to get this which equates to 50 casts.
Caught it in Winterspring at 23,48 which is the lake to the West and just in front of the Timbermaw Hold cave entrance.
I also caught a Redgill here towards my "The Oceanographer" achievement.
Inside was a "Swamp Ring of the Wolf" - A pile poop for the effort but hey!

Tenuous though it may be, I kind of see the Tainted Forest lake as a lagoon, especially as the river linking it to the sea is really short - can well believe the tides would push a lot of saltwater in there.

Anyway, just caught this fish after ~750 casts (545 according to Fishing Buddy plus I guess around 200 casts before I had it installed). I was fishing in Tainted Forest at wizardcho's spot. I did this over the course of four seperate visits, roughly an hour's fishing time each visit (about 30 minutes on my final visit). I average between 240/250 casts an hour. A couple of visit's earlier I had caught 15 Pound Salmon.

Dropped a Huge Emerald, but I was more disappointed in the fact that you can't keep this fish in Lure Master Tackle Box. It took such an effort to fish up I wanted to add it to my collection of rare fish.

Ah well, roll on March 20 when I'll be able to catch Raw Summer Bass and complete The Oceanographer :)

Well I kept fishing the lake in The Tainted Forest for over 1800 fish. Decided to try Lake Jaedenir in Feralas for some change of scenary. I was about at the end of my alloted fishing time when it showed up. I caught about 320 fish this time out , so i got over 2100 fish to feed a army. Where on the lakes is of no importance just the will to stay at it will reward you in the end. Anybody need Fish? lol

In case anyone here forgot, Salmon don't live their entire lives in Salt Water. I hereby call an end to the debate over how salty the water is. It's not salty at all. Salmon are caught there, because they are spawning, just like in real life. Fin

After obtaining the bloated mud snapper today I got the taste of blood and went for this bastard. However I was slighty more unlucky here, because I did not get it until after 1616 casts

This is an easy achievement to give up hope on lo. Anyway bare through it and change scenery, it doesnt hurt your chances! I caught 2012 casts in Tainted Forest and with no luck headed over to Lake Jaedenir in Feralas at around 7pm ST on top of a big tree branch in the lake and on cast 167 BOOM bloated salmon with a star ruby in it. Makes me start to think the fish moves from area to area or something. Anyway now for the harder achievement that involves 5 of these things.

The skeleton of a lone tauren sits propped up against a mound of dirt in the middle of Lake Jademir, bits of leather armor that survived the ages suggests she was a druid while she was alive. Next to her is a pile of fish bones, and in one skeletal hand are the remains of what looks to be a fishing rod. Whatever she was fishing for seems to have been the end of her.

I have finished the Limnologist, in fact Ive done a lot of hard achivements (10505 and counting)

But this stupid fish, Bloated salmon...
I have been mostly fishing in the tainted forest, and caught over 9k fish. YES 9k fish without getting it.

And yes I am starting to loose my mind, Ive started to think that maybe there is some bug or that the fish can only be caught between certain times and so forth. Ive tried constantly fishing it for over 24 hours with no other break than bathroombreaks.

This is more rare than the turtle, baron mount, A'lar mount combined. This will take extreme patience to catch.

I am not giving it up, but Ive started to think of in another way: I dual screen with a good movie/tv-show and just trying to fish for the fun, regardless if I get the fish or not. In that way, the fish has to come for me.

I just read through what I had typed in, I am going crazy arent I?

Prestholt I feel the same way. I am on day two of this hunt and its the only one that has really challenged me but its somewhat weird to wonder too many "what ifs". I have since mid day today downloaded and installed Fishing Buddy but since I have flip flopped so much I am not sure exactly how many fish I have caught other than a helluva ton.

I am guessing between Tainted Forest & Lake Jaedenir I have had at least 1k in fish totals, but still nothing. Next time bags fill I will dump and reset, good thing I parked this toon here but still its a total pain. I think this fish is a little past a challenge and more towards "you are a little batty to try for this one" I have grabbed all fishing tourneys, been called a fishing beast by guildies and so far with all fish achieves but this one damn fish but this is the only one I have ever felt slightly bored with.

Edit (Friday Update): 500 more fish, no salmon @ Lake Jaedenir . :(
Edit: (Monday Update): 400 more fish, no salmon @ Lake Jaedenir but I am entertained with my magical crawdad to keep me company from Fishing Buddy.

Close to 10,000 fish over the course of 3 weeks and still no Bloated Salmon. I am honestly not believing they exist.

EDIT : FINALLY! OK, it exists! After I finally caught it I did a more accurate count. It took me 8112 fish to finally nab this cretin!

I can finally do other stuff!

By the way, I caught it in the same place I have been standing for close to a month, Blasted Lands 45,70. I find the time I spent there to be little proof that this spot gives any greater odds of catching it. I think it has become more reported to be caught there only because people are standing there more often due to reading this thread. If everyone fishes from that same spot and finally catch it, then it falsely seems to be the ideal location. I think anywhere in the same lake would have equal odds.

Caught on 768th cast at the inland lake in Tainted Forest (45,70), as mentioned above.

Worth noting that there if you are a miner, and find yourself fishing there for some time, there is a Rich Thorium node that respawns every 10-15 minutes right below the water line at that spot. Given how much Thorium goes for on the AH, it is definitely worth mining this node whenever it spawns, gives you a little extra something to hang in there for!

Caught at 7:40am on Lightbringer. Spot was right next to the waterfall in Tainted Forest's lake. Approximately 25 stacks of fish, caught somewhere around 260 fishing skill. Would recommend you fish during the day for Lightning Eel, which can be used for Stormchops while Plated Armorfish is now useless.

I've fished one of these and a Bloated Longjaw Mud Snapper. Both contained worthless items. What's odd though is that I fish all the time and I've only recieved 2 bloated fish. Seems like a super rare drop-rate for something so pointless.

Bloated salmon is only one of several types of bloated fish. These fish are commonly found at the new fishing spots introduced in the patch. I've made many catches at the floating wreckage, and the occassional catch at the firefin/blackmouth spots.

Bloated fish, in general, tend to have gems inside. You also have a chance to find a magical ring or necklace.

Bloated fish have only been available since the recent fishing changes, so don't let the drop rate fool you. You can find quite a few if you stick to the special fishing spots.

If you find a black diamond from one of them, lucky you!
