Be aware, I experienced a bug on beta where the quest NPC would only supply me with only two of the guys I was supposed to get for this quest. Before heading out, make sure you have a Sniper, Demolitionist, Marine, Lieutenant, and a Medic.

Fun quest, though :)

This quest is INSANELY frustrating if you attempt to do it the "right" way. If any of your NPCs die, you can't blow up the gate at the end (at least, having either the engineer or the lieutenant down means they will just stand there at the end and do nothing - not sure about the others). They will also run all over the place and aggro tons of mobs and get themselves killed, which forces you to run all the way back to the beginning of the quest and start over, and all the enemy mobs will respawn in the meantime.

The easy way around this is to fly up the mountain side and wait for your squad to follow you. If you pause every little while to let them follow you, they can climb all the way straight up the mountainside, and you can come down right at the gate and thus avoid all the frustration that this quest causes.

This engineer is called "Highbank Demolitionist". Just go to the door and wait like 30s.

Quest seems to be bugged. Arrived at gate with all my guys and nothing happens, waited several minutes and the demolitionist just does nothing.

Dismissed them and retried it twice and still nothing. Filed a ticket, I will edit later if the reply is of any use.

I just did this quest, and it seems it is bugging me as well. I have all of my guys but the Highbank Demolitionist is not lifting a finger, and nothing is happening.

If you arrive and they will not blow up the gate abandon the quest. Simply dismissing the squad and going to retrieve them again does not work. Abandon the quest and then pick it up and then fly slowly over the mountain towards the gate being careful not to lose anyone.

Bugged quest. I had to do it 4 times before it completed. What I did the last time was not using a mount at all, and just fighting my way slowly towards the gate. And it worked

The event triggers when you are near the gate but i suggest getting as close to it as you possibly can - run right up to the join in the middle. As soon as the demolitionist starts to blow the gate mobs spawn and if he's right by the gate they seem to leave him be - if he's a bit back he may well die before he finishes the job which means starting all over again :(

I had the same problem, dont know if this will work for everyone but this is how i fixed mine:

- When your at the gate (and demo will not blow up wall), abandon quest and then dismiss the group

- Go back to quest giver and accept quest and DO NOT talk to quest giver again after you have accepted quest.

if you tried flying over you probably failed, even if your squad is fully in tack. It takes about 2 minutes to run to the other side to the gate, avoid most mobs clearing only the ones needed. Getting the 30 kills for the other quest is pretty trivial.

It is important how you engage the mobs, engage them Ranged, and if you are a tank use your threat/fury stances. They focus fire better than most real players in dungeons so they drop the NPCs quickly.

If you are still having problems, fly back to the quest giver, dismiss your patrol first, abandon the quest, accept the quest, and then ask for a new squad. Follow the instructions above and you will find this entire quest easy as pie.

update: sometimes the NPCs are engaged and they just stand there and take no damage, i had luck in waiting/dragging other NPCs around the bugged one. Whole quest took 5 minutes including the followup to Grim Batol. If you take longer than 10, you are doing it wrong.

I didn't have to drop the quest after the first failure to open the door. I just flew back, asked for another squad, flew along the mountains to the door, waited for the squad to catch up, and then the demolitionist blasted open the door.

But then the explosion brought about 30 Twilight guys over to me, where the squad killed them all with minimal help from me.

The problem is that you need all 5 NPCs. They get hung up back by the quest giver attacking mobs in the area and don't follow you. Clear the 2-3 mobs at the top of the path near the quest giver and it should free up all 5 NPCs.

I abandoned the quest since it wouldn't find the entrance for me, they wouldn't discover it. Now I cannot find Mathias to get the quest again, wtf?

Once your at the gate, you can talk to the quest giving mob to innitiate opening the gate

ok. had the worst time trying to get this quest started. every time i'd get a team assigned they would engage the npc's fighting right by me. here's what i did that worked.

1. take quest (abandon and re-accept if you want).
2. mount up, fly to the gate and back. you won't get a discovery notice.
3. talk to the quest npc and request a new team.

they then formed up around me (which is the key) and i could lead them down to the gate. keeping them alive wasn't hard.

if the team doesn't form up in a semi-circle around your character then you aren't going to complete the quest!

I took the team down the way I was supposed, everyone lived, but then they didn't blow open the gate. I had to dismiss my team and get a second one to open the gate, it was an annoying bug.

I couldn't get the squad to do anything. They seem to engage the mobs in combat surrounding Shaw, and as a result they just stand there and do exactly nothing. Won't follow, won't move, none of it.

Hope this was bugfixed in the next patch...

Edit: I came back and did it a few weeks later, and it worked just fine.

I just did this quest tonight. I didn't go up the side of the mountain, cause I'm a real masochist and wanted to see if it was still bugged, or if I would just get killed.

I didn't, however I did tend to run off the side of the "path", avoiding the larger groupings of mobs. My only real issue is the so called "bug" with the cat hunter pets. My cat would help kill whatever I had targeted and then run off 50 yards or so to target some strange mob that didn't even see my little group.

I even had enough time after the gates and been blown to finish up the extra quest Paving the Way

I had no problem with the quest(s) today. Don't know if they have been fixed or what, but after getting the squad, I moved out and attacked each little cluster of enemy mobs. I worked in a side to side fashion kinda like clearing dungeons. They only attacked what I attacked and made short work of most mobs.
Got to the first gate and stood there for a minute or so while they set the explosives and had to fight off a couple of enemy assaults but they were successful in blowing the gate and once inside got the second part of the quest. It too went smoothly.

I will say be careful by the gate that you are supposed to blow open, the path splits and one part will continue up the hill, don't go that way or your squad will phase out on you and have to get another

What may seemed bugged is not.

You start the quest with 5 npc's. So you need to get to the gate with all 5 npc and you cannot lose one of them. They may go kamakazie. But I found by ground and kill the mobs get to the gate and it will blow the gate.

I abandoned this quest to pick it up again (just like some of the others). I couldn't
find Mathias Shaw to pick it up again. I've tried everything to find him. I went back later and found Mathias. There are 4 big gates leading up to Grim Batol. Just inside the third gate to the left on a little knoll, you will find Mathias Shaw and everyone that you need to complete the quest. You can pick it up there.

Okay, I read all of these comments and still couldn't make any progress. But I finally figured it out.
After you accept the quest, the squad joins you. But you -have- to talk to Shaw again to tell him you are ready to leave and want the squad. If you leave without doing that, the team will still follow you and kill things, but not blow up the gate. I abandoned it, tried again, and discovered this 'secret.' After I did that, it was a simple walk up the canyon and they blew up the gate. Hope this helps someone!

Can confirm quest still bugged, but here is how I did it; after i got to gate with full team and the gate didn't blow up! drop quest; dismiss squad; go back and accept quest again*; sellect one npc from squad; mount and fly on the right side of the mountain ( keep a eye on minimap and make sure you don't go too far from selected npc ) to gate.
*before the 5 NPCs spawn make sure to run away from quest giver so they don't aggro the mobs near him

You can just go back to the quest giver (by mount if you like) and rescramble the squad. The first encounter is the same, the rest of the way there seems to be less enemies.

If you're as silly as me and managed to get yourself killed during this Quest and can't seem to find a way to complete it, try dropping it then relogging.

I was in a party as I was questing, upon picking up this Q, I noticed I was put out of phase with the rest of my group. After ressing at my corpse, I was back in phase. Neither talking to the quest giver to get the squad back OR dropping the Q and picking it up again put me back out of phase like I should be, but dropping the Q and relogging did the trick (finally!)

Description

The wyrms have already taken the battle to the sky above Grim Batol. It's up to us to move our men in by ground and secure the gates.

I want you to know what is at stake here, <class>. Grim Batol is the source of Twilight's Hammer reinforcements to all of the highlands. If we do not cut them off here, we will not win the battles ahead.

I'm sending a squad from Highbank with you. Get to the gate to the southeast and get it open. Your lieutenant should have any further instructions you'll need from there.
