From the looks of it you don't gain credit for this quest if you use the chain while mounted on your seahorse, I tried 6 times and didn't get credit, then once I dismounted and tried again I completed the quest. this might be a coincidence, but can try it if this quest is bugging for you.

dunno if this helps but if you use the chain item straight from your bag it works perfectly, if you are trying to use the chain item from the 'objective' list on the side then it doesn't work.

Pretty much impossible to do if you lag regularly as I do. My position on my screen and my position on Blizzard's server don't match, so even though I spam the harpoon hotkey, I never actually fire the harpoon - thus, Gnaws takes absolutely no damage, and I keep dying.

Edit: I asked Blizzard about this problem, and the gist of the response I got from the GM was "ask on Wowhead".

Just to clarify, this quest bugs and does not give you credit if you're too quick with mounting after he's dead. Wait with mounting until you get credit and you should be good to go :-)

i had a little trouble with this at first. i couldnt dismount and i couldnt fir the harpoon. i finally got it by clicking the chain in my bags after i was on the shark and it light up the harpoon button

I absolutely love the movie Jaws so really enjoyed this quest line. Seeing Gnaws' Boneyard filled with Orca remains truly made me laugh in delight as the boat in Jaws is named Orca. Intentional reference or not, it made me happy :)

Is this thing bugged; I can't find the darn cannon. I did this quest on the Beta, and even used the cannon for the previous quest and now the cannon seems to be gone. Has anyone else had this problem?

Don't bother looking for Gnaws. I spent way too much time doing that. Simply go to the harpoon gun at 58.3 48.8 and right-click on the bait.

Had to try the quest a couple of times, Wondering why I didnt got it complete, But as stated above i stayed still after dismounting for 2-3 seconds and the quest was complete.

I can now confirm that partying up does NOT work, so I'm not sure what I and other people with latency issues are supposed to do to complete this.

I went thru entire quest, harpooned shark and he died in graveyard. I did not get credit for the quest. I've done this quest with other characters four or five times so I know how it works.
The second time I made sure I dismissed my mage pet before I started. That time it worked.
If you cannot get the quest to work and have a pet out. That may be the problem? It may also be that you have to wait unmounted in the graveyard until blizzard gives you credit?

I can't seem to completet this quest. I use the Q-item by the harpoon, gnaws picks me up and starts chewing on me. Eventually i fire the harpoon, he swims of for a bit further and eventually he dies, but i'm not getting the quest count. Anyone else having the same problem?

Use Budd's Chain on the Rusty Harpoon Gun in The Skeletal Reef. Fire the Harpoon when Gnaws is in position over the gun.

Description

If ol' Gnaws had heels he'd be on 'em right now.

Fortunately for you, I think like a shark.

Gnaws is mad as all get out and we're gunna use that to our advantage.

Here, I found this chain while out treasure-huntin'. Use it to tie off to that harpoon gun.

When Gnaws sees ya he'll be consumed with rage - that's when we strike!

You try to finish him off and I'll sneak in there and grab the shiney.

Hurry, <class>, before he grows them teeth back!
