As a cat lover (irl and in game) I am really looking forward to taming this guy! So far here is what I have found from HuntsmansLodge.com, mainly, and a couple other sites.

Spawns on a floating rock platform in Fireplume Peak and is immune to Freezing Traps. He attacks with a Fireball that stacks increasing damage of the next one. Either use a party member's haste buff (Ancient Hysteria, Heroism/Bloodlust, or Time Warp) to tame quickly, or use Silencing Shot to stop his Fireballs before beginning to tame.

Just tamed him on Emerald dream at 4:36 server. Attacked him once, silencing shot his spell and instantly started taming and was able to get him. He's beautiful!

Skarr is one of the ten "hunter challenges" brought into the game in the Firelands patch. He is the "metal cat" first seen in Scholazer Basin Soo-holu or Storm Peaks Blackmaw

He sits proudly on a random rock around Fireplume Peak. To get to him you need to jump on rocks slowly ascending upwards to the "island" but, be warned. Some rocks break and regenerate over every so often.

For those who want to know his "challenge" be spoiled below.

This challenge is rather cruel. He cannot be freezing trapped, scatter shotted or dazed. (even though he does not move from his rock to melee in anyway)

He spams a fireball at attackers that stacks a haste buff on himself, making any tamers dead before they can finish their cast. His only other attack is a long cast ability that deals near-lethal damage and stuns, interrupt any taming processes. You have to Deterrence the long cast to survive it and the only way I've found to tame him through his fireball is to re-spec marksman and use Silencing Shot. Worked like a charm the first time I tried it.

EDIT: I recently found two thermal vent places when jumping up the rocks that, when jumped from, give a 100% haste buff for 2 minutes. I think this is actually the challenge to taming Skarr as it would probably make the tame go quicker then he could cast his stun.

I have no solid evidence of this but I believe he shares a spawn with Karkin Karkin since they both make their homes on the rocks surrounding Fireplume Peak.

I just tamed this guy 29 June 2011, 5am server on Shadowsong US Alliance. Rough location = 35, 28, between Fireplume Ridge and the mainland. He is sitting on a floating rock.

Tips

Does NOT require BM
Use a MM spec with silence to silence his fireball barrage (which will pretty much 1 shot you and interrupt your tame beast cast)
Stay far enough away from him to cast the silence shot
Use haste pots and food
He is immune to traps

How I did it

Get to the firelands and there are two ways to access this guy now. One - die and ghost jump near the Fireplume Peak to spirit rez on Skarr's location between the peak and the mainland. You will have to wait 10 minutes for the sickness to go away so you can survive his fireballs that he casts after the barrage has been interrupted by your silencing shot.

Two - From the mainland, go to the left side, north corner and look for a bunch of steps. Jump up those (carefully!) and watch out for the ones with cracks, as they will fall down, taking you to your death. Ascend the steps to Skarr's area and tame him from afar.

Took me 7-8 tries before I learned to tame first, let him cast barrage (5.0s cast time? can't remember) silence, pop haste pot, tame again, survive 3-4 fireballs, and tamed)

This guy is awesome to look at, glowy red eyes and sleek black metal body. Good luck!

Just tamed him as Beast Mastery. After a few tries, I got lucky and his Fieroclast Barrage missed so I was able to finish the tame without any issues. He's an awesome pet!

Though I'd recommend going Marksmen as the Silencing Shot way sounds way easier. ;)

I am fairly positive Skarr and Karkin share a spawn timer. I was the one of the first ones in the molten front and saw/tamed every other accessible one, including Karkin, but not Skarr.

Anyone witnessed a respawn yet?

I tamed this cat early this morning around 4 am. I was one of the first hunters out to the Molten Front and wasn't sure how to get to Fireplume Peak. I took a left, and skirted around the outside of the fire and made it through without dying. Instantly my mini map was showing rare beasts all over the place. I passed up Kirix and headed straight for Skarr, who was sitting on one of the little floating rocks. Unsure of the strat for taming this amazing cat, I tried to tame but was interrupted and almost killed by his fireball. Being SV/BM spec, I had no way of interrupting his cast. Pondering what to do, another hunter showed up and I knew I had to do something quick. The other hunter tried taming and was killed by Skarr.

I sent out a quick tell in general asking for a mage or shaman to help me out. When I got a response I told them I would pay them 2000 gold if they would help me tame him. So they rushed over, popped Time Warp and I started the tame. It finished just as he was about to cast another fireball and I was the new owner of this awesome looking kitty. Not to mention it was a realm first tame on him (Drenden). I've had so many whispers from people asking where I got him.

Also before I tamed Skarr I was lucky enough to snag Magria and Ban'thalos. And after getting Skarr I managed to get Skitterflame as well. It was a great night for me.

Skarr is pretty easy.

Jump on the rock right infront of him cast Silencing Shot then jump over and click this macro right away!

/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

Can throw in a potion of speed to be safe. i didn't though.

I had another Draenei hunter trying to get him, though the hunter took Skitterflame from me during a tame. -.-;

He spawned at the first set of jumping stones to get to the island. I just walked to the edge, tamed beast, cast silencing shot, tame beast again and he was mine. :)

Located on the South side of Fireplume Peak on the floating rocks.

I tamed with the help of a Shadow Priest... I shot 2 Arcane Shots, she interrupted his cast and I immediately used Deterrence and Tame Beast.

He cast one fireball at me before the tame completed and it did quite a bit of damage, but I got him.

Tamed times are on server Proudmoore, I got the first Skarr tame roughly 4:30 am with some help of a Shaman and Death Knight. Another hunter almost took it from me but later helped him tame when it respawned again at 6:15pm. He also helped me tame the first Karkin tame at roughly 10:45am since they appear to share spawn times.

Hope these help other figure out the timer more exactly.

Got him on the European server the Aldor just now!

There was a way through the flames so I didn't even die. Also jumping over the rocks was quite easy, so it shouldn't be so hard.
Have fun with this nice cat, and give it a good name, it deserved it :)

Got this badboy earlier tonight. Two Karkins had spawned prior to this tame. They indeed share a spawn timer/spawn points. First spawn/tame on server, Azuremyst. Definitely an eye-catcher!

Awesome Pet. Tho wish he kept his fiery paw animations.

What I used to tame:
- Jump on 2 rocks away from him so i didn't aggro but still close enough to tame.
- Hit him... waited to silence his magic
- Pop my Deterrence/Tame Macro

AND BOOM he was tamed.. Goodluck to all the other who weren't lucky enough to get in zone early!

Okay, so when I was jumping around the island, I somehow got a buff called Convalescence of Winds, or something close to that. It buffed my haste by 100%. It SEEMS like this is designed to assist with taming endeavors, but I have to re-discover how to get the buff.

There's a new NPC with basically no data attached to it in the Wowhead database (Convalescence of Winds), so if anyone can shed some light on how to acquire that buff, then that should help everyone with taming this kitty.

I also managed to rack up a 244g+ repair bill (at ONE time) just jumping around trying to figure out how I got that buff, haha.

Edit: I just managed to get the buff again. Convalescence of Winds: Increases your attack speed and haste by 100% and allows you to jump much higher and farther than normal. 2 minute duration.

You get the buff at the end of the rock-hopping journey over to Fireplume Peak. The last rock on the both sides has the wind thing that shoots you up, and it also grants you this buff. So, if you can snag this buff before taming, it'll be waaay easier. Good luck!

More edits: An additional caveat: Apparently this buff goes away if you jump to any of the floating rocks. So, try to tame from the main platform in order to maintain the haste buff. Not sure if any of his spawn points are out of range of the platform, but it's worth remembering.

Tamed Skarr on Bleeding Hollow at 11:20am on 6/30. He spawned on the rock at 32,52. I was on the ledge above him, had to jump down stood @ 34,52 to tame. Def recommend using silencing shot. Don't try to cast silencing shot on his first cast - he will do 2 and will interrupt first one. Wait until he's 3/4ths the way through 2nd cast then interrupt & tame. I popped a cheap resist flask to negate a little dmg from his fireball. Worked fine - nothing fancy.

I tamed The crab first at 7 am at the floating rocks to the right of the platform - I read up on spawn timers 6 hours was what it said there was a server reset at 8- Skarr spawn exactly 6 hours after restart .He was located on the rocks in which you jump up to get on the platform. Did the silence-deterrence-haste pot and it was no issue at all used the same for taming the crab earlier

Can anyone confirm if our ability Scare Beast will work on this beast long enough for us to tame it without taking any damage?

Edit: it doesnt work. But on the bright side, I JUST GOT SKARR! im on Misha, tamed him at around 7:20pm est time, 4:20 server. He spawned on the rocks that you have to jump on to get to Fireplume Peak.

Hello,This is Solaria(Bloodelf)from Whisperwind and I tamed Skarr today at 1:38 (3:38 pm server time) on June 30th.I had finished the dailes that unlocked the portal to Firelands and successfully ran up along the side of the flames.I made it half way up the rocks before plummiting to my death lol and to my relief was ressurected at the spirit healer on fireplum :) No one was there and so i waited..and waited..and waited.I had alot of people from alliance paladins,death knights,druids and hunters come and go.I was just coming around the side after a quick run around of the island when i looked at my map and saw a red dot on my screen.I quickly ran over to find him sitting in the middle of the rocks with his back to the large firey palace looking building.I had a macro that said /cast Deterance /cast tame beast so i quickly hit that and the deterrance went off and started to tame.He hit me once with a fire ball which nearly killed me then i silenced him and he was mine :) Good luck to all the hunters out there that want him.He's very sleek looking and love the red eyes.

Tamed Skarr today at about 6pm server time on Gnomeregan. silenced him and started a tame but died. my spirit came up near magma springs so i jump down toward flameplume and as soon as i saw i was in that area i hit return to graveyard can spawned back up there than i silenced and tamed and finally got him.

Just tamed this gorgeous pet at about 7:45 Pacific on Frostmane. Confirmed that being MM and Silencing shot is the easiest way to take him. I actually stood on the main Rock in fireplume peak and Tamed him from there. Found him at about 35, 33.

Tamed Skarr at 2:45 AM server on US-Suramar at 36,35.

Let me tell you, this is no sure thing either - I died about 9 or 10 times. I was MM spec and had speed potions, but did not have a corehound or mage/shaman buff. I tried to wait for the long cast to interrupt, but often he would chain cast 3 or 4 fireballs. Usually i just feigned and started over on those. At any rate, even when I did roll the silencing shot then potion/deterrence/tame - my tame cast was still about 7.5 seconds and skarr's casts get faster and faster every time. Needless to say he almost always hit me, stopped the tame, and often killed me.

The tame attempt was very frantic as another hunter showed up - he was BM tho, and he didn't have a chance to live and died at least 2 or 3 times while I was still trying. On my successful tame I got hit by 2 fireballs during the tame but did not get interrupted. Pure luck.

Set pvp gear ( more health )
Drink some potions ( health + armor )
Jump near ( think close to skarr --> less damage buff )
Scatter shot and start tame
Take first buff
Silencing shoot - Barrage - Taming
Take the second shoot but succes

I just tamed it on EU-C'Thun server 15:00PM GMT+1 A couple of hunters were trying to tame it with no success. The key is to start taming, interrupt the first taming so you can interrupt Skarr's cast and when you do that use Deterrence + Haste pot + taming as fast as possible since the interrupt.

In fact aparently I was called names for "stealing" it. My bad people were just dying without a *!@#ing clue on how to tame it?

Tamed Skarr this morning at 5:22am server time. He did not spawn at the single rock platform that most peoplpe talk about and that is shown in the videos. He spawned on a rock platform at the bottom of the platforms we have to jump up to get to the other side. My NPCscan and Silver Dragon did not go off when i was near him or when I targeted him. I was camping the other location when i figured i would go over and see if Karkin was up. I get to the edge where we jump across and for some reason looked at my minimap and sawhis name. Figured it was a pet of another hunter because scans did not go off but i did not see another hunter. I /tar skarr and his uit frm comes up he is real and ready to tame. I jump down on the closest platform to him cast deterrence and a few seconds later he was mine.

Good luck to all trying to find him he is an incredible looking pet.

Okay funny story.. I had my hunter camping a spot and told my sister, who had no clue about anything wow related, to tame this rare beast if she ever saw it spawn, while I was out of the room. "like it would ever spawn for me" I thought, and was imagining how awesome it would be if she had tamed it while I was out of the room.

She didn't know how to kill on my hunter so she feigned death every time she aggroed an elemental, when I walked back into the room I told her to run to the other side instead where there's less mobs, and walked out. A few seconds later "Do you want me to kill this rare mob named Skarr?" "WHATTT!" as I run into the room. "yeah he's in my way I can't get past the rock with him in the way"

I almost have a heart attack and run to the computer, and I completely spaced his special fire barrage and started taming him, almost died twice but feigned, took a breath and remembered silence and deterrence, and to my luck I got him. The space was empty, to my surprise, since there was 6 hunters camping at the same time, that exact spot earlier!

3 karkins were tamed the previous day
1 Skarr was tamed at 4am serv, I got him again at 10am serv

Tamed him on Spirestone, 11.00 am server time. Died 4 times, first time because I forgot to interrupt his barrage. and the other 3 times because I didn't heal up before trying my next tame as there were 3 other hunters all trying for him, and a damn horde lurking about who was killing him each time he spawned since he had tamed him yesterday. Finally got a priest there who healed me (thanks!) and I correctly interrupted his barrage with silencing shot and tamed. The fireballs kept interrupting my taming, but repeated tame casts got him.

TLDR: Heal up before trying to tame, use MM and silencing shot, if your tame beast is interrupted, recast, and don't forget you have deterrence.

Just tamed him on Stormscale. Came back from afk and there he was sitting on the rock. I was so excited i started taming, forgetting i was in sv :P. a troll hunter killed me as i was taming. i ran back, just in time to see the troll hunter die midtame. switched over to mm real quick, started taming, hit silencing shot when he was 3/4 of the way through his long cast, then hit tame immedietly and he was fine. took minimal fire damage as i forgot to detterence, nothing too bad though. finished tame just as troll hunter ressed. It felt very good.

The previous tame was at 14:20, so the ~6+ hour respawn timer seems right.

Competition wasn't so bad, 1 horde and 2 alliance hunters around (not counting the random people who passed by). One of the other hunters fell down while jumping around just before he spawned right next to his spot. He was a sad panda to say the least.

Tip: DON'T mess around, even if you are bored. Stick to your task. You might miss him !

Well I've been camping this pet since 4am.. Seen a few hunters in general say the crab was tamed at 2am while I was doing dailys.. Servers reset at 7am my time so I've been out here for 7hrs after the reset and still no spawns.. Have 5 other hunters here now with me =/

On a side note.. Kinda odd.. A Dark Iron Chest spawned on one of the rocks a few mins ago.. Had 56s and a Kuang's Locket of Secrets

*edit* He finally spawned after 7hrs and 45mins give or take.. Definately a hard tame with 6 other hunters trying to get him at the same time.. I'll try back in a month I guess when it dies down.. 11hrs wasted thanks to server resets..

Tamed Skarr after 24hrs of camping on Madoran (literally) saw him spawn 2 times both exactly 6hrs after server restart 1st time the platform i was on fell and i died and by the time i got back someone tamed.. this time i got lucky and i was able to stand on solid ground.. cast arcane shot waited out fireball and when 1/2 way through barrage cast i silenced and took potion of speed popped deterrence and tamed.. worth every min i spent watching people fail at jumping on platforms.. i have to thank Toon for being an awesome hunter and telling me he spawned and not taking him ... She was the reason i got him... we both were there 12 hrs +

so to recap Skarr will spawn 6hrs exactly after a server restart also crab spawned both time in same spot Skarr did 8 hrs after

Someone else from my realm (Drenden) tamed him at 5:22 AM server time, I logged on around 10:30 AM to begin camping for him. The crab later spawned at 4:00 PM yet no Skarr. I tamed the crab, and he still hasn't spawned at 6:00 server time, so I can most likely confirm they share spawn times and that Skarr's spawn time could be anywhere from 6-12 hours or more. Someone also told me he spawned after 2 hours, so it could be also as low as that!

Tips for taming Skarr/Kakarin-
Make a macro or a row of spells on your action bar as so:

1. /tar Skarr
2. Tame beast (grabs agro from others)
3. Silence shot (interrupt barrage)
4. Deterrence
5. Tame beast

Vashj-EU. So I camped him asap after I did the first Molten Front dailies. Other hunters were around including the 'best hunter on the realm' and it was just me and him around and he got it (around 18:49 server time, he got his DK mate to interrupt, he said he'd camped for 12hrs), he paid me 1k gold in compensation for me not taming. Failed on jumps and took res sickness and mob spawned pretty much exactly 6hrs later, found at 00:41 (found him using a macro since NPC Scan didn't seem to work last time). Begged in guild for interrupters but managed to do it alone (after attempts where I had to feign cos of damage O_o) by casting tame, cancelling and casting Silencing Shot, cast Deterrence then cast my tame with my Thorny Rose Brooch haste trinket macro'd. Third on realm to tame. RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY :D. Going for Ban'thalos next.

Just posting this to provide some info. I didn't even know about this guy until this morning when i saw a pic and had to have him.

When i arrived at the spot the Crab was there. There were two other hunters kinda standing around but after a while someone did tame it. I was excited to have found that one with the hints here of them sharing a spawn timer. Later that day the green spider spawned, after killing a succession of hunters someone, after a half hour, finally tamed it. This was a problem for me.

Before that spider I had the rocks to myself but everyone stuck around. After about 3 hours Skarr spawned, I was the first to him. Sadly I missed my jump and landed on him aggroing him and died. I, of course, got sent to the grave yard over by where the dailies are. So by the time I rezed, repaired and got back there someone else tamed him (I don't know who there were 8 hunters on the island).

here are my times.

Crab- 11:45am (ish)
Green spider - 4:20pm
Skarr- 7:00pm
skarr- 12:00am (missed tame)
Skitter - 12:24am (missed tame)

I know I got lucky finding him on my first day of camping, all I can do is try again in 3 hours. I am though happy to see on my server (for once) other people NOT killing the beast mid-tame. (edit to add more spawn times)

Tamed him on Chromaggus - EU around 00:30 server time.
Took me around 5-10 minutes and a couple of tries to get, because his barrage would stopped me from casting.
Finaly managed to dodge one and got it, before some Ally could get it.. he tried to steal it from me haha! but he died cuz he stood on the wrong rock 8D hooray for me.

Tamed at 34,4 / 51,9 just when he appeared on the floating rocks! Easy to tame, started taming, then he interrupted me, then just waited for him to cast the spell , silence shot at him, used berserk, rapid fire, haste potion start taming again and there it go, i got a new pet!

Tamed it on Ghostlands-EU around 03:45 server time.

Being a BM hunter WHEN and IF I get to tame this pet I'm going to try using a druids Solar Beam to silence him through tame. I'll update on this when and if I do finally get the tame. - Well I got it at 10 PM server time on Blood Furnace US ( 6 hours after Karkin was tamed last). So I'd say they do share the same spawn time and rotate.

Don't bother interrupting the fireballs, just start taming.

When he starts to cast the barrage spell interrupt it with silencing shot and resume taming attempts.

The fireballs just cause small damage and give him a damage buff. The barrages cause massive damage and also interrupt your tame beast cast.

Started to tame, saw barrage inc, interrupted it with silencing shot. Popped Deterrence and tamed it.

Quite easy but rewarding furious beast, gotta love it.

Just got this baby at runetotem EU on my hunter, the stupid buff made me overjump and die, but i quickly ran back, to a BM hunter trying to tame him with the bloodlust effect, but failed, i interrupted fieroclyst barrage thingy and tamed like a boss!
Im now the happiest hunter on runetotem :)
Btw: He sits at floating rocks around, i would suggest putting on track beast and eagle eye the fireplume peak's highest point in the middle and watch ur mini map

I just tamed Karkin at 13:30 on Spinebreaker. I had help from a shaman buddy of mine, and we are now camping for Skarr.
Taming Karkin went quite painfree, no deaths at all and I could reach him from the mountain side so no mario'ish jumping on the ledges.
I just went and hit tame, and my friend interrupted all the fireballs and the barrage, my tame was interrupted like 5 times but I just kept casting a new one + deterrence and then Karkin was mine within seconds.
Now we are going for Skarr, whenever he spawns, this should also give an idea about the spawn timer. I'll keep you guys posted.

Got Skarr this morning, Lothar-US. I tried a few times, failed. A goblin hunter tried at least once, and failed. My sweety got on her shaman, came over, and the sequence went:
She dropped "totem of tranquil mind" and the one that increases ranged and attack speed (windfury?). I took a potion of speed, hit a macro that did deterrence and tame beast, and she windsheared the first fiery blast. Worked like a charm (or a tame, I guess!). After the tame something funny happened, the tame bar finished successfully, but visually it appeared that Skarr still tossed another fireball at me. It didn't damage me, though, so I can only assume it was a visual glitch, not an actual glitch.

Strat 1:
- Pull with Tame Beast (This forces him to cast his one shot ability Fieroclast Barrage)
- Silencing shot on Fieroclast Barrage
- Deterrance
- Tame Beast

If you don't pull with tame beast, you will only silence shot his fireballs that don't hit for much. You want to silence shot his Fieroclast Barrage which he only does when you tame beast.

Strat 2:
"On the last rock when you jump from the furnace to fireplume, there is a gust of wind that you can see in here, jumping onto that will fly you up onto the island and give you a 2min buff Convalescence of Winds, and the buff reads 'Increases your attack speed and haste by 100% and allows you to jump much higher and farther than normal." Tips:
- Tag it fast with arcane shot if others are around (Read the new hotfix about taunt/Distracting shot immunity)
- Reforge all your gear to haste, use haste elixir, potion of speed, haste buff food (I got my tame beast down to 8,x secs)
- Tame Beast Macro:

Tamed him at 2:20PM server time on Drenden and a previous hunter tamed him at 10:55AM so a 3 hour spawn. I'm guessing atleast 2-12 hours because the previous day he was only tamed once through 11 hours. I was also the 3rd person to tame on our realm.

Probably took about 3 attempts to finally get it down. I had my action bar set up so I would:

- /tar Skarr
- Tame to grab agro
- Silence (3/4 way through barrage)
- Potion of Speed
- Tame

MAKE SURE to feign death if someone else is attempting, if they forgot to interrupt barrage it will kill you and everyone else within 20yd range I belive. Don't worry about the fireballs, they do small damage, but the barrage can one hit easily and interrupts if it doesn't. Also don't give up if there is even 8 hunters there, hardly any of them knew how to properly tame him, do research first. Good luck!

I read through all this before I headed to the Firelands. I camped out the spot for 12 hours yesterday and there was no show of him, but I did manage to tame Kirix when he appeared this morning. As for Skarr, there was no show and I ended up passing out.

This afternoon at 7:10pm on Drenden I went to just look, and about 5 minutes later Skarr appeared. I was AFK at the moment and ended up dying, luckily so did the troll that showed up after me. When I respawned and got health back up, I did what everyone said to do. I started to tame and right away had to use my Silencing Shot on him before hitting tame again. He didn't even get my health half way down by the time I tamed him. VERY cool pet, and highly wanted on my realm as is the crab.

I recommend for anyone who wants cool pets to camp him out. It's worth it. He is very cool, and a tough pet in general.

When will there be a map photo of his location up on here? I'm having issues figuring out his exact spawn point. And on a separate question, what is an addon that will tell you what the chords are that you are at ?

EDIT- I was camping a spot since about yesterday evening, and all of today. I fell off one of the rocks a few times, and then i went back to repair. I was coming back up to my spot, and I saw a dot on my map that isn't usually there, so i typed " /target Skarr " and sure enough he was there. I hopped up those rocks faster than i ever have, heart pounding and hands shaking, i got there without falling. Unfortunately, when i arrived a troll was already taming him. He barely had any health left, so i was hoping he'd die and I'd get my go at Skarr. But sadly he succeeded with the tame. I was so frustrated! If i didn't go back to repair, if i never left my post, he would of been mine :(

Im on Durotan waiting 3 days for this cat and at 2:20am he spawns and a Worgen HUNTER kills him as soon as he spawns, or so says a Horde. I asked the alliance the next day and he tells me the hordes killed it. There was a horde hunter, rogue , and something else there, as well as myself, and the alliance hunter. I got excited, jumped into a long firey death, and came back to him laying dead on a rock. :(

Got this gorgeous pet today.

Seems he can spawn on any of the floating rocks around Fireplume Peak. Run up the left side of the fire leading to the Furnace. When I found him he was on one of the rocks that you have to jump on to get to Fireplume Peak, so I didn't have to do any jumping at all. The day before I saw him on a rock to the east, towards Ragnoros Reach. Did Tame Beast - Silencing Shot - Tame Beast - no probs at all.

NB: There seems to be a bug at the moment, where if a pet is in stealth mode (i.e. Prowl for this pet - which is what it will start in) you can't get it out of it unless it attacks a mob. It's the same for Spirit Beasts with Spirit Walk.

I just nabbed this thing at 4:22 am on Runetotem. I logged in just to see if he spawned and he wasn't, so right before I clicked logout he popped up on my minimap! I literally about crapped my pants. Tamed him this morning around 4am Server time.. Had just logged in for the day and thought some alliance hunter had just tagged him and named him Skarr Lo and behold first time since I got to firelands no one was there. Got the tame and not 3 seconds later a mob of hunters arrived on the scene.

Just managed to nab Skarr after 2 days of heavy camping. The spawn times and points for Skarr and Karkin were:

Friday
Skarr spawned at the north spawn point at 11pm server and was tamed.

Saturday
Karkin spawned at the north spawn point at 4:30 am server and was tamed.
Server rolling restart at 9 am server.
Karkin spawned at the north spawn point at 3 pm server and was tamed (by me).
Skarr spawned at the north spawn point at 10 pm server and was killed by alliance rogue while being tamed by me. (sad hunter here).

Sunday
Karkin spawned at the north spawn point at 3:15 am server and was tamed.
Skarr spawned at the southeastern spawn point under the rocks you use to jump up to FPR at 9:50 am and was (finally) tamed by me.

So on average, the spawn times were pretty true to the 5-7 hour window. Most of the spawns were on the rock to the north, 4th one out. Just hop on the rock closest to the ledge to ensure that you get the initial agro from him. To tame him and Karkin, I was in MM spec and used a macro and had my hubby's shaman pop blood lust. The macro I used was

/cast Silencing Shot
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Tame Beast

Tamed at 1:30pm on Fizzcrank at Northern Spawn.
Tamed Kirix and Solix prior to tame.

First day camping saw a Human Hunter steal my tame, started tame and silenced his Barrage. Human Hunter started tame right after I silenced and before I knew it his tame was finished, he had the wind buff and I suppose haste stuff equipped. This was 3pm 7/2/2011.

Second day camping, woke up 8am 7/3/2011 to no spawns. Watched with eagle eye someone attempt to tame Deth'tilak at 12:00 pm, unfortunately another hunter showed up and killed it during tame. Kirix spawned 10 minutes later, I managed to tame it to the dismay of the other hunters watching. Solix spawned at 1:00 pm, died once in the attempt and came back and tamed him. 1:45 pm Skarr spawned at northern spawn, tamed him easily only did 11k damage with fireball before he was mine, BTW fireball hit through Deterrence.

I didn't get him myself, sadly. I've been hunting this cat 12 hours, and he finally spawned. However, I allowed another hunter to tame him (I even silencing shot his Barrage). However, I will give a slight rundown:

Said hunter had 118k hp. He started the tame and the fireballs got him to about 100k before he began the barrage. I silencing shot it, and the tame went on. So: His first fireball is fairly weak, and so are the other ones. The barrage, however, appears to be quite deadly. I can't say for sure, but it seemed so.

Well, I'm sorry I can't give more information, but now it's back to the hunt for me!

I headed over to his spawn a few minutes ago on my hunter and behold Skarr was sitting proudly on a rock. As I watched him kill the other two hunters even with a druid healing them I couldn't help but /laugh at them.

With advice from this page, I got the haste buff from the updraft and one-shotted the tame and he got like one fireball on me. Needless to say I gotn rage from one of the hunters who apparently sat there for a few hours waiting on him. I feel bad for taking his tame but those feelings went away quickly as the guy cussed me out while another nearby hunter /clapped for me.

That haste buff, or ANY haste buff is a MUST for taming it, no question.

Tame pulled ,silenced shot it while it tried casting its barrage, and began tame again.

Tamed in my first try and he was on one of the very bottom of the rocks that help you get to Fireplum Ridge in the first place.

Waited for it to spawn with a horde hunter ( Im a ally hunter) and let me tame it even though both of us had waited more than 5 hours . I owe that hunter a rare spawn now .

I was lucky as hell to get this guy. I just came back from doing a BG when i saw the red dot. I almost died trying to get to him i was in such a rush. When i got up there i saw a hunter sitting down next to him. I waited a few minutes to see if he was gonna come back. After a few I said screw it and jumped to the next platform near Scarr. I noticed a dead hunter laying there so I waited another minute, and he finally rezzed. I was helping him tame it when two other hunters showed up. The one hunter started trying to tame it. SO i shot scarr to interupt his tame. Told him not to be a ninja. He said screw you i'll kill the cat. Thats when the cat killed all 3 hunters leaving me there alone with him. Ofcourse i did what any reasonable hunter would do, I jumped down and tamed him. I felt bad for the original hunter but i couldnt let this guy get killed for some aholes greed. Brings me to my next point. DONT BE AN AHOLE WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE TRYING TO CATCH A RARE SPAWN! You would be pissed if someone did it to you. I also cought Deth and had to wait for him to kill off the other two hunters who where trying to ninja him from me.

Kind in first-time no problems. I heard it's a 3 to 6 hours spawn time but some people also say 12 it only ever spawns on the floating rocks so keep an eye out for it. It's not exotic so you don't have to be a beast master to the to take him.

Finally got this guy on Durotan at 9:15pm Sunday night. Had seen crabby up multiple times. Spawn rate was around 6 hours 45 minutes of last tame/kill on all crab spawns. Had seen skarr up once previously only to have it killed mid tame by a shammy, rogue and I think druid horde combo. They then went on to tell everyone on horde side that I killed it....LOL...Both times were on the southern spawn point of the floating rocks. Tamed first time using:

Arcane shot
Tame
Silence (when he casts his barrage)
LifeBlood (optional)
Deterrence
Tame
No Problem!

Also want to thank another hunter who was checking out the northern spawn points (was willing to give the cat up to me) and also helped tame a few other rares. He searched around while I parked my butt in one spot and didn't move. Never tried to steal a tame. Thanks again

and now i would like to share a story :)

I was really tired for school so i tohught i would check this guy 1 more time before i wen't to bed and to my liking i found him and using disclove's method i got him but a horde hunter was dying to get him and just missed the tame and was very unhappy.

i had to log onto my alt and apologize becuase he had 2 failed attempts and nearly stopped my tame but he was just unlucky. That spawn delay was lucky for me and unlucky for him.

This guy is not easy netiher is Karkin so if like me you just beat someone and they are unhappy you might wan't to apologize and give them a bit of advice to help them in the future :)

Im guessing he might check here for any tips, so if you are him thanks for stopping attacking me and not stunning me and letting me have the pet.

It's quite funny how people just don't get why blizz made some of these pets harder to tame. The idea is there is some form of challenge in getting it YOURSELF... the amount of hunters ive watched getting them with shammies for blood lust or healer healing them etc its just a bit /facepalm.
It's like yes you got a rare woot but you totally missed the whole point of it. They should have made it like the old epic hunter quest.. if someone tried to help you with the bosses back then you got 1 shot.

Just tamed him on US-Kilrogg. There were about 4-5 hunters camping the rocks. I was at the more northern spot with 2 others. An ally was at the south one.

I was just about to start an episode of TV. I set all WoW sound off, but NPCscan has the option to umute. I checked that it worked and alt tabbed to start watching. BAM it goes off!

I alt tab back after my heart stopped for a second. I mount up and jump, but almost fall to my death because of the buff. I land on the main section below with almost no health and start running back around. I eat up to get full HP. Go through the fire and almost die again.

I can target him at this point and see that someone is attempting the tame. I eat again, get full, fun up and see the ally died. I hit tame, he starts the barrage cast, i wait half a second, silence him and use my tame macro. 8+ secs later I have my cat!

US-Killrogg
Just after 4am Eastern time (1am server)
Southern spawn.

Longest 10 minutes of my life I think :) Just managed to tame this guy. Was 15 minutes before server closing for maintenance. I was sure there was no way to find him after days of searching the place with no success and tons of hunters around. Died trying to jump on the rocks trying to get on the island and being lazy I took the res. sickness penalty only to find myself face to face with Skarr but too low on stats to be able to handle him. Stayed there for 10 minutes watching the place hoping there were no other hunters around searching for him before maintenance. I was so darn lucky nobody else came after days of having hunters all over the place.

Managed to tame him in about my 3rd try. I am a MM hunter and an engineer. Make sure u save all ur CDs for a successful try on taming this guy. I started by using my engineer haste buff then tame spell. When he was at about half way of casting his fire thing I used silencing shot then continued taming. I used my readiness spell and silencing shot again.You need readiness available to recast silencing shot quick enough. After this for the last part of the tame I used my engineer belt buff which helps protect me from 18k damage. He was mine in no time and I had about 30% life left and 45 seconds till server restart hehe Good luck to all of you guys searching for him. He's a great pet

Found him on the South-Eastern margin of the island. On one of the floating platforms there.I did not need to jump on the platform to tame him I just had to go as close to the margin I could get.Make sure u have "track beasts" ability on.Found a hunter couple days ago searching for him without it.In my opinion if a hunter forgets to use such an ability while searching for rare pets I am not sure that such a hunter deserves a pet like that ;)

Just wanted to add my 2c worth in order to encourage people on pvp servers trying to tame skarr. My hunter is on jube and we have a horde to ally ratio of about 3 or 4 to 1 I think, and unfortunately I'm ally :( Horde have taken to just turning MF and Hyjal into pvp areas which makes it almost impossible to do new dailies.

I figured it would be a long time before I got any of the new rare pets with so many horde hunters always massing in the spawn areas. Anyway today I camped banthalos for all of 11.5 hours (totally lucked out with the time I set up camp obviously!), during that time I got ganked multiple times by priests and mages whilst sitting on the tree. There were lots of horde hunters around all the time, often "slapping" or "spitting" on me, so I didn't hold out much hope. When he finally did spawn horde hunters were queueing up to die at banny's hand, and I finally got my chance and tamed him with a trap on top of the tree that many have spoken about in this thread.

After this huge day of camping, just for laughs I went into MF for a quick check of skarr, and lo and behold he's up - surrounded by horde hunters trying to tame him one after the other (and a few ally). Usually they would get agro with a shot rather than the first tame required, and all ended up dying to his long cast stun shot (I did too a few times when I was stupid enough to stand too close to the tamer... don't make this mistake! Very frustrating corpse running knowing someone might be taming ur desired pet!). Anyway in the end my chance came when all other hunters were dead or eating to get their health up again, so I simply did the process outlined here... tame - silence - deterence - tame. No buffs or pots were required and it was an easy tame. I couldn't believe my luck!

Anyway I think the point is don't just despair when there are heaps of enemy around (or even "friends") trying to tame these rares... it seems few people know exactly what needs to be done. So go in armed with the knowledge ppl have kindly shared here, and you have an excellent chance of nabbing your pet much to the vexation of all those around you. I had multiple people whisper me straight away "how did you do that?" etc, and I passed on the tips, but it amazed me how many hunters don't go into these tames armed with the tricks for success.

So, many thanks to all those who found out the hard way, and shared their info on this forum. I now have the three pets I really wanted (skarr, kirix, and banthalos), when I didn't initially hold out much hope of getting any of them!

One other thing that just came to mind... lots of posts here talk about jumping onto the rocks to tame him, which is perilous at the best of times, let alone when you're shaking with excitement at a potential tame! When I tamed him he was sitting on one of the group of rocks to the south of the island (near the buff-giving updraft), and I tamed him from the north side of the "mainland" - well within range.

So I'm not sure if its the case with all the floating rocks he spawns on, but my advice would be to check if u can get him in taming range from a safe location, before jumping across rocks to get to him.

Tamed 6:15 am Area 52. on my hunter
He was on the floating rock. 32.52 I stayed on the ledge. No issues reaching him from there.
Two other hunters were there. Not sure if they were trying to steal the kill or kill him because I got the tap. He was just about dead by the time I tamed him.

He killed all 3 of us a few times.

Lucky and happy i got the tap.
Sad the other hunters were so mad at me.

First off Id like to thank all of my new hunter friends I met on Hunters Rock (Fireplume Peak to you), I wont name names out of respect for them but thanks, I couldn’t have done this or got my info with out you.

So straight to the data. My tame happened at 11:45 server. Now I am 85% sure that the spawn timer is a 6 hour timer, the past spawn times for Skarr and Karkin were (going back in time)-
S meaning Skarr spawned
K meaning Karkin spawned
U meaning unknown

5:20K pm, missed the one before that due to server being down, 12:15K am, 6:00K pm, 12:40S pm, 12:35K pm, 5:00U am, (from this point on it was before a server reset and we were getting very strange spawn times so don’t take theses too serious), 1:30S am, 10:40S am, 10:49U pm, 6:00U pm, 2:00U am, 12:10S am, 9:30U pm, 6:00U pm, 11:00U am, 11:57S pm.

Now there are two spawn points for either Skarr or Karkin, the 1st and easiest to get to is on the rocks leading up to Fireplume Peak (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww136/morgatho/Skarr/Skarr2.png) and up on said Rock on the east side (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww136/morgatho/Skarr/Skarr3.png) this is were i got mine.

The trick to taming Skarr (dono if this works with Karkin as I don’t want him) is to 1st be MM spec, it doesn't matter if it’s a pvp, pve or extreme soloing spec, you need Silencing Shot, 2nd is u need a macro (/cast deterrence /cast Tame Beast) and 3rd the addon NPC Scan (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/npcscan.aspx) NPC ID # is 50815. Start off with engage him by casting Tame Beast, this will force him to start the cast on his big hitting spell (can knock off 66% of your HP). You will need to interrupt this with Silencing Shot, then hit your tame beast deterrence macro and he's all yours.

Now that you know the basic method Ill tell you how I got him and the 2 min buff that helps you out with this. On Fireplume Peak there are air vents that cause you to jump high. Well there are a few special one that if u jump from and land on Fireplume Peak you get a 2 min buff (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww136/morgatho/Skarr/Skarr4.png) I've found 4 (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww136/morgatho/Skarr/Skarr1.png) of theses vents. One of them isn't worth bothering with as you have to jump off of Fireplume Peak to use it, one of them is hard to aim and use, but the other two are the ones you want to know about. The one I used (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww136/morgatho/Skarr/Skarr5.jpg) is, IMO the best spot to be to camp him, alliance cant get to you and u are with in jumping distance of both span points. I recommend practicing jumping with theses air vents, the better you get at aiming with them the better off you'll be. look up my post on Petopia forums for better info and links to pics.

Just did what everyone else did.

Just tamed this guy at 8:36am server time - Blackrock US. He spawned at the south point. When I got there ( I was camping the one further north), Three hunters were present. Lucky for me, the guy who tagged him didn't know how to tame him, so Skarr got all 4 of us hunters killed. When I ressed I ate, and tamed him.

I have to say out of all of the rare pets I've camped I'm seeing the worst behavior out of my fellow hunters that I've ever seen. I actually only decided to try for him today. Since getting up here I've had 4 others show up, which whatever, fastest one gets him I suppose. But the emotes going towards each other, going and dragging elementals on top of the other hunter, etc, etc.

It's pretty sad guys. I mean we all have FD, so why are you even wasting your time. Just behave yourself, and wait like everyone else. Sheesh. At this point I'm just gonna silence for the only other hunter here behaving himself. He's the only other one here who deserves him.

Camped Skarr from about 4am till 12pm, with a server reset at 5am(PST). Spawned on the rocks that lead to the Fireplume Peak. Spawned on the left side of rocks (if facing the Peak).

Got a little too excited when taming and shot off my Silence Shot too early, ended up eating a death and Spirit Rez. Fortunately another Hunter who was wanting to tame him failed in their attempt and I was able to recover and sport an uber fancy new pet.

Btw, *NO* haste is needed, nor is Deterrence. *NONE*

- Wait for Barrage to be cast 1/2 way

This makes my 4th rare tame of the day, can't believe how lucky I've been! Popped on after running out for dinner, and BAM! Npcscan goes off, I find Skarr is sitting on one of the platforms leading up to Fireplume Ridge. Three or four other hunters were out there trying to tame him, but none of them were trying to silence him which resulted in all the hunters nearby, myself included, getting killed around 4 times. Really nasty aoe damage from his attack.

If you spot him spawned on the steps leading up to the main island, there is NO need to rock jump to get in front of him. I threw myself off the main island onto the one just south, got as close to the edge as I could, and after a few deaths, managed to get back before the other hunters. Respecced to MM just for this pet. Started to tame, Silenced him, tamed again, and just barely survived his regular fireballs with out using any sort of haste buff.

Skarr tamed @ US Mannoroth Alliance @ 12:15AM or 12:19AM he has a 6hour spawn time or so good luck to all hunter out there

Tamed at 6:45 AM on the Trollbane Server. Silencing Shot his Barraged and survived 2 Fireballs. Now I have him and Karkin. I'm not even gonna try for the Spiders!

Just tamed on Medivh at 8:58 am server time. He spawned on the small island on the north eastern side of the island. I had seen him tamed at 10:46 pm the previous night. I hadn't planned on logging in until 12 hours after that, but something told me to log in early. I tried aggroing, casting silenceing shot and tame/dettering 3 times but he kept killing me and I died 3 times. I noticed that if he was aggroed by an attack he would just fireball, but he wouldn't Fieroclat until after I hit tame so this is what finally worked.
I was buffed with Very Burn Worg and Elixer of Might Speed.
Popped a speed pot and Berserking. Hit tame so he could cast his one shot, which he did, hit silencing shot then used a detterence/tame macro. His Fireball missed and he began to cast his Fieroclast Barrage. It launched, I tamed, and I died. I'll never complain bc ranged attacks actually have to travel through space before they hit their target. :) Good luck to everyone trying to tame him out there.

I was camping Karkin when this kitty spawned. The other horde hunters in the areas were also camping Karkin and did not want Skarr. After watching several alliance hunters either get owned by Skarr for not knowing how to tame him or plummet to their deaths and not come back to try again, I decided hell with it and used the "pull with tame beast, silence shot, tame" method and got him without going even below half health. Sad that someone who really wanted him didn't get him though. I think he looks so much like the shiny red-eyed cats that are tamable in ZG that I had never thought to try and tame him.

He is a beauty though, and I've had many hunters say how much they envy me for having him.

I'd trade him any day for Deth'tilac though. Or maybe not. Raoden (if anyone gets where his name comes from, they get a pixelated cookie) sure is a pretty metallic kitty and gets lots of comments.

For anyone frustrated over not taming him, go tame a ZG kitty. They look quite similar and the only difference is the lack of metallic skin, but their skin is still shiny. He spawned and was tamed by me around 5pm server on Runetotem.

Finally!
It took 6 missed chanses and 5 days of all freetime camping but got him in the end.
Good thing is that I got some new cool hunterfriends to. One even helped me camp cause she just camped for like a day and got him and felt bad caus I camped for so long. Thanx Spiritsabre! So she took the upper spawnpoint and me the lower. And damn if he didnt spawn at my place. My heart started to rush like hell and I started to tame, interupt, hit my macro and prayed. Saw him turn blue and just felt so damn good it´s unbeleveble. =D So now we are as happy we can be. Me and my Metallicat. =)

Here is a simple and correct way to tame Skarr/Karkin:

1. Tag Skarr with an attack.
2. Press Tame Beast once (this is to force him to cast his deadly Fieroclast Barrage right away instead of spamming Fireball)
3. Interrupt his Fieroclast Barrage casting with Silencing Shot.
4. Immediately follow with Tame Beast once again.
5. Profit.

You can prepare yourself with various haste buff to help but that's the basic of taming this beast quick and efficiently.

Note: If someone is about to fail taming by letting Fieroclast Barrage go off, DO NOT STAND NEAR THAT PLAYER.

Was able to tame this beauty at 22.55 today on Neptulon (EU).
Earlier today i saw Karkin twice (at 12.00 and 18.00h). So indeed, it's pretty random which of the two will spawn-- but they deffo share a timer.

Karkin spawned once on the more northern rock and once on the southern area; over the days i've seen Skarr south as well as North; when i tamed it, he appeared on the more Northern spot.
So bascially: spawn timer for me was over 4 hours at least; during the days i camped for him i also saw Kirix and Skitterflame several times in the area; they do spawn seperately from Skarr and Karkin.

Good luck on hunting for this amazing cat, to me it paid out in the end even after just missing on an earlier tame the day before because 4 hunters were trying to get him all at once ^^.
Just use the strat as so many before me have mentioned (which is easiest):

Spec MM, aggro him, hit tame beast, silence shot the fieroclast barrage and tame beast again:)

Dont need to hit him with a attack. Just hit tame, that seems to trigger him to use barrage as first think instead of the fireball that gives him a hastebuff. Only thing any attack is good for is to tagg him.

Just hit Tame, interupt fire barrage and then I used a macro and took a haste pot,

/use Deterence
/use Tame Beast

Worked like a sharm and he was mine. =)))

Just tamed him.

Easiest tame ever. All I did was cast Deterrrence and started taming. His first Fireball missed me, I got hit the second time and then the taming finished and he was mine.

I didn't use Silencing shot either - I tamed him while in BM spec.

Just cast deterrence and start taming. Piece of cake!

I just tamed him and this is how:
1. Start to tame then he starts to cast a spell
2. Interrupt it with Silencing shot then use Tame Beast again this time he wont cast the spell and you just need to survive.
You don't need to be on the same platform as him, or even one of the platforms.

If anyone want to know his spawn timer its 8hrs before last tame(dont know if its killed timer). Camped this beast 4 times. 1st time, an alliance and myself fought each other(pvp server) and horde player sneak up and ninja tamed while we fought and after that help me kill alliance player. 2nd time, Krakin spawned 8hours before last tame(tamed him). 3rd time, Krakin spawned again within 8hours so i was stingy and i tamed it so i can reset timer. 4th time skarr spawned within 8hours. Finally tamed this bad girl. My calculation is 8hours spawned timer and it spawn at the same spot 4 times while i camped and both krakin and skarr both shared timers so if you want skarr and krakin spawned you had to wait another 8hours so good luck camping(sucks if your in a pvp realm)

So I was minding my own business, waiting for Skarr to spawn, when he did...
I rushed on the platforms and started to tame him. Two Horde hunters soon came but let me continue. I was about to succeed, when two players of my own faction came and attacked Skarr, interrupting my tame, and killing him...
It's kind of sad that members of your own faction would do that.
Saw on Gurubashi around 8:06 A.M.

Well, this is a bit late but whatever. I recently tamed Skarr myself ( 3 days ago?) on Tarren Mill EU, at 16:58 server time. 6 and a half hours after a warlock had killed him while me and a fellow camper were ghosted with 2min rezz timers.

Nobody was around for my tame, which I am very grateful for, knowing people on my server. I used the normal tactic to tame him - tame beast, silencing shot, tame beast - he was mine! =D. So with shaking hands I stood there panning my camera around him. What a beauty! A day after that, at 09:00 in the morning, I was running around Fireplume Peak to look for him (I do that with all rares after I have tamed them, just to pretty much see if I can help somebody else get him, hehe.) and he was up again. So, none of my friends were online and I was the only Ally hunter in Molten Front, so I quickly log onto my horde character and whisper an orc hunter whom I had seen in Molten Front Sanctuary place when I went to look for rares. So, I tell him Skarr's up, tell him the tactics, and log back on my hunter. He was playing around with tame tactics a bit, but finally got to tame him. The dude(think his name was Nightchester), seemed pretty happy, and told me he is a fellow SB hunter too,so I was glad I got to help the guy :).

Some important info : His spawn timer is no more than 8hours maximum, from all the spawns I have seen, so you won't have to wait too long for him.

Finally got Skarr after days of camping, now this is really a rare spawn. I got Kirkin and Kirix while I was camping for Skarr though, while I was waiting for Skarr I saw Kirkin spawn 2 times and Kirix 4+ times.

The tame of Skarr himself went smooth, I had a shaman friend to help me interrupt barrage and I just stood on the edge instead of the ledges. I did cast tame and got him within seconds.

I'm a very pleased hunter now :) He is so pretty.

besides hunters, other classes that shows up at where the 2 rares spawn seems to bug me for example i was there camping for days and the next thing i know a druid comes out of nowhere and blew me off the edge and when i came back his guildie tamed the cat.

I had waited all day. i play a litlle ps3. suddenly died on me wow. Skarr had come but then managed an alliance to tame him. so I waited another day. I cooked some food came up first time & nothing. it was 5 Alliance & 3 hordes. I went down and came up again. I was alone, he had respawned, and I managed to tame him time was 13:07 (server time). BUT have silencing shot! server was Alonsus

Woohoo! tamed Skarr today at 6:19pm server time Area 52 I did what I did to get Krakin today as well become MM Spec tame SS him then finish the tame woohoo! :D

Edit: Monday July.11th 2011 (Area 52 server) I found that Skarr spawned two times in that one day in the same spot not up on the cliff but down below... crazy! first time a Hutner tamed him second time a Mage killed him. :\ (sorry can't remember times)

Just landed him on Saurfang! Camped for about 2 days off and on, watched someone else take him once yesterday, but no one was around to take him today, luckily! He spawned at the southern point at 12:05 PM server and I tamed him at 12:08, after looking back from the TV and seeing that my NPCscan had popped and it wasn't just another hunter's pet this time. The MM strat worked like a charm, and now I have the most gorgeous of the new hunter pets! ^_^ Good luck all!

Hello! I know there are quite a few posts like this one already, but the more good information the better, right?

I’ve managed to tame Karkin and Skarr and have discovered some useful things about their spawn timer and how the taming process goes.

I’ve seen four spawns so far, 2 Karkin and 2 Skarr. Some people have said the spawn times are between 2-10 hours, some 3-9 and others 4-8. All the spawns I saw were exactly 6 and a half hours apart (give or take 2-3 minutes)

The times I saw them were:
- 5:09 a.m. Karkin, July 11, Tamed
- 11:40 p.m. Karkin, July 11, Killed (By a human as a worgen tried to tame, D:)
- 6:09 p.m. Skarr, July 11, Tamed
- 12:34 a.m. Skarr, July 12, Tamed

I think the spawn time is very, very close to being 6 and a half hours (I know it was only 4 spawns, but they were all one after another and the times match so well it seems like just too much of a coincidence to me, lol).
Another thing I and that worgen hunter learned the hard way is that more than likely, people will be jerks when it comes to rare spawns. The problem she constantly had was everyone around her that hit the crab managed to pull aggro.
Something I would recommend if you are worried the pet might be attack by another player (don’t do it if you are sure you won’t be interrupted) is to use a hard hitting shot before continuing with the normal tame/silencing shot/tame strategy. I’d go with chimera shot because it’s instant and will probably do somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10k-15k dmg which should hopefully keep his attention on you for the duration of the tame. Chances are you will take a fireball before the barrage, but better than having the pet killed by someone. I haven't actually tried this method before... I didn't have anyone around when I tamed so I can't say for sure whether this is a smart way to go about doing it, it's just what I think I would try if I were in the situation.

I think I will keep an eye out for the pets to really get a better idea of whether 6 ½ hours is the magic time here, and maybe update with whatever I find.

I have a feeling it's going to be a very, very long time until I get this pet (won't be surprised if it takes til the next expansion) on Mal'Ganis. Lucky if you're on a medium-low population server. Be prepared for lots of hunters waiting around

and a word of advice please: If you see Skarr please do NOT announce it in /general. This only encourages jerk players to go kill it. Whisper a hunter in the area instead

Just find this beauty on Vashj EU at aprox 13.50 pm. Was just standing infront of me on the flying rocks at the north east position of the island when i logged in. As mentioned earlyer its a very easy pet to tame just cast Tame beast then use Silencing shot when skarr starts casting. Only took like 20k dmg from his fireballs after that.

It was rather stranged cause my NPCscan didnt go off. So almost missed it.

Nelf Hunter - Tamed at Caelastrasz 5:28 PM ST at 33.6, 52.8. Tame Beast, Silence Shot (if MM) and use the Deterrence and Tame Beast macro. Hope this info helps hunters on my server. Thanks to the Horde hunter Garaku for not killing it and letting me tame it, good chap!

So I found another spot Skarr can spawn in! Same general southern location, but on a rock I'd never thought he'd appear on.

Finally got him on Deathwing-US today at 11:45am CST. Been leaving my char logged off on the northern ledge checking periodically and had a very interesting thing occur during my tame. So I log on, check my minimap, nothing really showing up. Use Eagle Eye and look in the eastern spawn section, nothing. Decided on a whim to use Eagle Eye to the west of me to look for Skitterflame, when a strange red dot shows up near my character. Hovering over it shows the name Skarr.

Perplexed, I cancel Eagle Eye and the dot isn't visible anymore, until I turn my camera and see Skarr sitting right below me. Literally, my character was covering up his dot on the minimap because of her position on the ledge xD He was on the rock underneath the northern cliff, not a spot I've ever heard of him spawning on.

No other hunters or players (luckily...) were around so I drop myself down and use the standard method: Start Tame Beast by itself and he immediately begins casting Fieroclast Barrage. I hit Silencing Shot and then hit my Deterrence/Tame Beast macro, and success!

Beautiful cat! Glad he's finally mine!

Arygos realm, southern spawn location, tamed this cat very easily. Actually saw him spawn, started Tame Beast, he immediately started his barrage cast, hit him with Silencing Shot macro, etc., etc., and now he is my newest pet.

Kudos to the hunter that took my normal northern camping spot (which I had been at for the past two days) forcing me to camp the southern spot where I got the tame.......had this other hunter not been camping the northern spot, I would have missed this cat because of the number of other hunters looking for him.

As far as spawn times, after server restarts this morning, Karkin spawned at 12:47 and then Skarr spawned right at 5:00, maybe a little bit before. Realm was up before 8:30, so between the two spawns, right at 4 hours and 15 minutes, a little more or a little less each way.

just tamed Skarr recently no more than 16 hours ago. well here's my story. I've been camping Skarr since the 2nd day since patch 4.2 hit, however i really never get the chance to tame it because every-time as soon as i go off he spawns and when i come back he is already tamed.However yesterday when i got on my hunter, had a look on my mini map, saw nothing so i thought about using eagle eye on the highest point of fireplume and tada saw him sitting on a rock on the north side of fireplume. I rush down to him only to discover that there are other bunch of hunters around him.

Now instead of fighting for him or argue on who saw him first, me and the other hunters made a queue so that whoever failed their taming can move on to the next hunter. Fortunate for me the other hunters didn't know how to tame him so that gave me and advantage.

I've used the tame, silencing shot, deter ,re-tame method which i don't find deter necessary. Anyways i also don't think haste buff or potion is needed so i didn't bring any. When i tamed, i used SS immediately on the fieroclast barrage then pop deter and quickly tame again. don't worry about the fireballs cause because they to don't much damage but in my case i took no damage through the whole process. After that finally Skarr is mine.

Here's a tip. If Skarr happens to cast fieroclast barrage at a target, make sure you don't stay too close to that target incase it succeeds because the barrage works like multishot which you'll most like to get hit as well

So, there i was, waiting.... and suddenly he pops up on the map. Great, starting to run there and accidently pulls him before i was ready. Stupid as I was I didnt do feign death so i died. Starting to run back when i see this mage. I offer him 1k for time warp and whats the response: Sorry.

Then he pops all his cooldowns and kill it. That's probably the only time I will see him. :(

hey just got him you have to scilence his Fieroclast Barrage then i poped speed pot rapid fire deterence an tame beast very easy as long as you interupt the right spell fireballs hit like a wet paper towl below is the macro i used

Horde Hunter just tamed Skarr on Caelastrasz 6:28 PM EST. She had camped him for 8.5 hours.
It looks as though the reports of others are true; spawn rate between 8-12 hours.

One request: once you get your Skarr, please don't take it out around his spawn points while you're doing your dailies.

He can be picked up by a waiting hunter's NPCScan (requiring them to manually search until you're gone, then relog & clear cache--for every single pet Skarr that passes by) anywhere on Fireplume Peak, the Molten Flow, and even parts of the main questing area with the fire elementals & whatnot.

Be considerate & use him away from his spawnpoints, as other hunters probably did for you during your search.

Me and two other hunters were trying to tame him this morning, at about 4am server time (Hydraxis Server, 7 hr camping ftw!)

My method (I was the successful one XD) was to click tame beast, silence shot, Potion of Speed (for the haste) then Tame beast again. I pretty much finished taming right as he almost finished casting his 'do not tame me rawr' spell. Pretty proud of him, he's a beautiful cat.

Tamed him on the Southern Spawn Point, right on the rocks near where Kirix spawns (I saw him spawn, and be tamed about one hour prior to Skarr spawning. He has about a 4-8 hr spawn rate, and taming him is all in the timing.

Skarr spawn at 33.2, 52.6 (lower of the multi rocks). I stayed on the ground and moved to the edge closest to Skarr.

I was in MM. Start taming then Silence shoot Skarr's Barrage Charge at 3/4th's of the way. Then hit deterrence and tame. Skarr is fairly easy to tame.

I forgot to hit deterrence and I still had half health.. so you don't have to use it if you silence shot his barrage.

As for timers.. I have no clue.. he spawned about 4 1/2 hrs after other hunter tamed him. I truthfully was looking to see when the crab spawned so I could guess when Skarr would spawn next and to my surprise.. there Skarr was!

Am yet to tame him here, but have found a handy tool.

If you take the wind buff at the top of the entry rock pile (dont jump onto top island right away, keep climbing the rocks) you gain a 2min 100% increased haste buff while you remain on the top island. Buff is called Convalescence of Winds.

edit: 5hours in, ACDC collection depleted, bottle of scotch empty.. spawn you damn Rockkitty!

edit: 6 hours in, Karkin spawns instead, mess up the 1st tame, go in for the 2nd, get it perfect, juke the tame, silence the barrage, pop deter/engibubble/tame.

Allaince hunter attacks it mid tame and kills it....

We had a dissapointment Skarr appeared at 11.40am on Turalyon EU sadly while my bf was trying to get skarr on his hunter a shammy came along and started killing his tame. So he said to her why did she do this and she said she just felt like it and did it for the gold. Come one thats not fair hunters camp a long time for these pets for that to happen i hope blizz can do something about it. :( there were 3 very dissappointed hunters there to witness the killing :(

Is it possible that he has more then just those spawn locations? Because i was camping there waiting for him to spawn when my npcscan went off and i searched around for a bit but i never saw him at any of those spawns. There wasn't any other hunters around at the time either so i don't think he was tamed.

The #1 way of taming Skarr and Karkin is followed by these 3 simple steps:

**Requires Marksmanship Spec**

1. Tame Beast (to pull aggro)
2. Silence Shot (to silence their barrages since they'll cast it first)
3. Tame Beast (this time, their barrages won't be casted and which follows by 3 mini fireballs being casted which won't interrupt your tame)

*You do not need Haste Potions*
*You do not need to be in Beast Mastery spec for using Ancient Hysteria*
*You do not need to pop Detterence either*

You will save a ton of $$ by following the 3 easy steps.

My npc scan picked him up when I was looking for Kirix, the green spider, and I got really exited! I tried to tame him, failed and died. So I rushed back and he was still there, but then a tauren druid spoted him. He saw me and was closer so he decided to kill skarr instead of letting me tame him. I still can't really see what he gained from doing that. I belive that no matter if you are horde or alliance, if there is a hunter near by let him or her have it. Its not like he drops anything valuable and he is not a part of any achievement as far as i know. He was put in the game merely to give hunters a challange. And if there is another hunter that got to him first, don't kill him, let the other hunter have him!

This goes for all the rares. Just a few hours ago i witnessed a goblin hunter taming Ban'thalos, even though I saw the owl first, he got him. I congratulated him on the capture. And he obviously was really happy, if i had rushed in and killed it, none of us would have been happy. I'm sure I will get another chance at capturing it.

I can understand where you are coming from here. The amount of rudeness and downright unsportsmanship like behavior that I've seen while camping these pets the last few days has really kind of astounded me... though I suppose it shouldn't concerning the WoW community.

I'm on a PVE server and it seems like both the opposing faction and my own faction do whatever they can to make it nearly impossible to get these pets. They will kill them, take aggro from you, and do whatever else they can to ruin a tame that you have been waiting on for hours or even days.

Personally, if I'm waiting on a spawn and I see someone was there first and has starting the process of taming, no matter HOW long I've been camping, I will help them or step back and let them have the tame. Yet other hunters seem to think that if they can't have the pet, no one should, so they should just kill it. I honestly can't understand why someone who knows just how painstaking camping a spawn is would think that it was okay to kill something when a hunter is mid-tame on it.... and even people of our own factions. I'm horde but I have helped both horde and alliance with taming in the past.

And also, someone else mentioned that it gets very annoying when people insist on running around spawn points with whatever pet that normally spawns there. I can understand that you enjoy your pet, but when you are camping Karkin and you sit there with Skarr out as your pet, it just seem very unnecessary. I've seen people specifically sit on Skarr's spawn point with him out in hope of confusing people, especially the other faction, into thinking that the mob had spawned.... whether they are using NPCscan or just looking at beast tracking. I've even politely whispered hunters of my own faction asking them if they would mind using another pet while they are camping at a certain spawn point, only to be ignored or told to eff off.

I suppose it just saddens me to think that the sense of community is so far gone that people would rather kill a mob than let someone else have it, or they would rather sit there for hours trying to troll poor hunters into thinking that a mob is there rather than doing something more productive. I've even seen someone dismiss their current Skarr in order to tame ANOTHER Skarr right in front of someone who just couldn't get the technique quite right, rather than trying to help them out. :/

More on topic I suppose, I'm still camping for Skarr at the moment, but I am happy to say that I have managed to get almost all of the rares that I have been after since the patch :) And I fully intend to keep on helping people who are out trying to find rares like I have been.

First I saw a bird flying around, which was a boss Alysarr or something. Then I noticed a dot on my map and put my mouse over to see what it was, then bam, noticed it was skarr.

Finally thing was, he got off his cast but I resisted it. Is that supposed to happen?

I tamed Skarr without a MM spec at about 12am on Shattered Hand. As is clear from all of the comments above, MM makes this a simple tame. But, for those of you who are BM and do not play or do not want to hassle with making a MM spec, here is what I suggest:

1) Find a disposable Core Hound for Ancient Hysteria. The best way I found to do this is to take the portal from your capital to the Blasted Lands. You should see a green Core Hound named Gomegaz wandering around just behind the crater. If he isn't there or is dead, fear not, his spawn time is fast. Pick him up and return to your city.

2) Haste, haste, haste. I bought both Elixir of Mighty Speed and Potion of Speed. The elixirs take 1 Stormvine and 1 Twilight Jasmine to make. The potions take 1 Pygmy Oil and 2 Adder's Tongue, however, any DPS class usually receives a stack of 5 of these in the congratulations satchel from Ronin for reaching level 80 so it's not uncommon to find some cheap on the AH. I picked up 20 for about 40g.

3) Deterrence macro - I recommend setting this up just in case someone tries to mess with your taming even though I didn't actually need to use deterrence in my case. I also used a macro to abandon my pet in one click, although in hindsight it probably isn’t the best idea. If you fail once, your Ancient Hysteria is then no longer at your disposal. If you can, take the few seconds to dismiss him instead.

Deterrence Macro:
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

4) Head to the Molten Front and station yourself around the base of the southern cluster of rocks. Use Eagle Eye to keep an eye on the other spawn point. In my case, he ended up at the northern spawn.

5) When you see him, do not panic. Calmly hop the rock maze (swearing as the breakable ones delay you if you must). The highest rock has a large red plume/updraft shooting off of it. Jumping in this plume gives you a 100% haste buff called Convalesence of Winds. Note that this plume is not phased – I only did enough quests to gain entrance to the Molten Front and could still use it. Jump the maze, get the haste buff, and run over to Skarr, staying on the mainland.

6) The process to tame him is simple at this point. Be sure you have your Elixir of Mighty Speed on, have your Core Hound out and pop Ancient Hysteria. Dismiss or abandon the Core Hound. Pop your Potion of Speed. If you are a troll (I am, thankfully) use Berserking. Hit the Deterrence / Tame macro to pull him and start the tame. Do it all in that order. If you pop the potion first, for example, it may wear off before you manage to cast Ancient Hysteria and dismiss your pet.

My Tame Beast finished in less than 3 seconds, far under Skarr’s cast time for Fieroclast Barrage. In fact, my tame was so fast that I thought something had gone wrong and looked around nervously to see if someone else had been taming it and not me. But much to my joy, after staying bugged on the rock as friendly cat for a couple seconds, he teleported to my side. I took no damage throughout the entire process.

While this method may look complicated, it really isn’t. It took no more time or effort than making an unfamiliar spec and setting new bars up for it. And should something have happened (like a member of the opposite faction interfering) I was in a spec that is familiar to me and could deal with the threat quite efficiently.

Today in my hunt for skarr was HORRIBLE. early in the day I logged on only to see the cat being tamed without fail. I just kind of laughed it off an moved on. Later I came back and waited fir skarr on his rock not the small rock the big rock. I went to check if skarr was on the little rock. He wasn't, but I did see something else I wanted to see: Kirix. A I attempted to tame Kirix with strategy, a bunch of people started showing up hunters and other classes as well. I died a few 11-13 times and painfully watched as other hunters tried to tame him without success. Then she came. A blood elf hunter got Kirix on the first try. I then headed back to skarrs big rock. When I got off the floating rocks another disappointment. I was reading the general chat and there it was. "OMG I JUST TAMED SKARR!" I panicked and hurried to the post. There stood "Cat" in stealth and everything, he had just been tamed. I was ready to EXPLODE. I've promised to myself that no matter what, I will get skarr or karkin tomorrow. NO MATTER WHAT.

Tamed this gorgeous cat at 4:25 server time this morning. A little note on spawn times:

Karkin spawned around 4:00pm server time yesterday on the rock cluster to the south. Karkin spawned again at 10:00 server time (6 hours later) on the same spawn point. Knowing that the wait time would be about 6 hours to see if Skarr spawned, I went to bed, setting my alarm for 4:00 server time. I was awake and ready when he spawned at 4:25 at the northeast spawn point. In the past, I have seen the spawn times be 8 hours, these were the first times I saw 6 hours. I've been waiting for him for quite a while but he's been spawning while I have been asleep or at work so today, I was determined!

I now have Ban'thalos, Kirix, Solix, Deth'tilac, Magria, and Skarr! Hooray!

Waiting for Skarr to spawn was weird. I had been pushed off by a Shammy, saw Skitterflame. Well, at 4:48 pm, my friend yelled out, Hey look kitty behind you! Canceling out of Eagle Eye, I look behind, and see..Skarr, sitting there, and mocking me. I bet he said: Hai, I'm Skarr, come and tame me!

Tamed at 10 minutes past midnight server time 7/22/2011 on Malygos. I definetly recommend the start tame silencing shot and deterence/tame macro strat because even with it I had 20% hp left and he was 2 seconds from another fire ball which would have killed me when i finished the tame. Even though i have skarr now I intend to not use him in the daily area because I realize it pops npcscan and that happened to me a couple times when I was chillin waitin for him to spawn. Pls remember to be considerate guys and dont use rare pets near where they spawn.

Finally after 5 times of seeing him tamed, I got him. It was around 1 on the eldre'thalas server and no one was around because it was a Thursday. Since no one wa there I could run back and forth from the smaller floating rocks to where the big floating rock was. I looked at my mini map and there was a red dot labeled skarr. I thought to myself, "it's probably just that horde hunter that tricked me last time" (because his skarr's name was skarr) then I went to check just in case and there was skarr sitting on the smaller floating rock under the ledge. For some reason my hand started shaking and I was nervous I wouldn't get him and someone else would come tame him. So I had to do it PERFECT. I hit tame beast and he started casting his barrage spell. I hit silencing shot and used my macro

/cast deterrence
/cast tame beast

he waited there and did nothing until deterrence was done and he started to cast barrage again. Of cours I had about 4 seconds left of tame and his barrage spell takes about 5 seconds to cast. The tame finished and a few hunters started showing up asking when I got him. I could happily respond "about 2 seconds ago:))

I got to tame this beauty at 6:30PM server time on madoran.

I started camping there at 8:00AM server time, no spawns of any other rares but Skarr finally popped at 6:30, so a full 10 and a half hours. WOW

I started to think another hunter had tamed him already because he wasn't spawning, but it took him 10 hours to spawn I guess - I was shocked since most of the websites say that he spawns between 4-6 hours.

Got him at 3:46pm after camping since about 12pm. I was about to give up but I had a feeling he HAD to show up eventually. During my camp about 5 other hunters came and went but when he finally spawned he was all mine :)

I started to tame, then silenced his barrage spell, cast tame again and that was it! Very cool cat

Saw this guy up on my main doing the dailies. Switched over to my alt hunter, took the portal to Mount Hyjal eventually zoned into Molten Front, ran past the fire, died a few times trying to hop the rocks and when I finally got there he was still there just chillen away. No one was around before and no one was around when I finally got there 7 minutes later. Go figure considering it was Saturday afternoon. Tamed him with the whole silence shot thing and got him easily. Logged out. Camping is overrated.

Just enjoy the game and if you come across him go for it. The spawn time isn't anything insane like Aeonexx so it's a pretty common rare to get.

As a Survival major with a minor in Beast Mastery, I was killed by Skarr three times on my first attempt before I lost him to an enemy faction opportunist. Seeing an abundance of advice for Marksmen, I tried a different approach for my second take. My advice for hunters with Survival & Beast Mastery:

1. Gold is easy to come by. Ditch your off spec for the time being and retrain with Marksmanship, being sure to select Silencing Shot.
2. Follow the previous rotation advice: Tame, Silence, Deterrence, Tame. Flawless victory second time around.

Additionally, the following macro helps:

/camp
/ignore wife

Also, be prepared for enemy faction casting "Annoy You" and be willing to exit the program to delete your cache for the sake of NPC Scan after nearby smart asses summon the Skarr they've already tamed.

Seriously though, if Skarr is an important trophy for you, be prepared to adopt Marksmanship temporarily if you prefer the other specs. The rotation works. A close call, sure. But, it works.

And to my horror, a blood elf paladin name LADYGAGA is some other italics slaughters him. I was furious. Same thing happened to Solix the night previous by A Warlock. Crabby spawned about 7 hours after Skarr spawned on my server, i failed my first attempt (i silenced him but he started casting barrage again right after, is that supposed to happen?) so my deterrence ran out 0.5s before his second cast went off & my tame failed, fireball finished me right after.
Ofcourse my spirit was miles away & took too long before i could get back, obviously some random pve scrub from the opposite faction (excuse the language, i just have no respect whatsoever for these kind of people) with The Patient title finished him off & /danced afterwards with me.

I felt sad for us 3 hunters that had been standing around the zone for about 5-7 hours ;(
Better luck next time i guess, sigh.

I find it the most southern spawn to have an extremely disturbing placement, the other two spawns aren't instacamped, but the most southern spawn is basicly a spot where all the people questing run trough and will obviously attack it when it starts casting at them, they really need to move this spawnspot elsewhere.

Saw Skarr spawn at 10pm server time on Tanaris. A Troll hunter was taming Skarr at that time. I kept checking back and at 4:45am Skarr spawned at the exact same spot, the northeastern floating islands between Fireplume Peaks and Ragnaros Reach. Despite a troll hunter trying to kill him as I tamed him I was successful with the advice given here.

1. Start taming
2. Used Silencing Shot to stop his Fieroclast Barrage
3. Resume taming

The troll hunter was killed by Skarr's Fieroclast Barrage as he had prolly tried to tame him before me and when he rez'ed saw that I was trying and thought if he could not have him then no one should. Lucky for me his health was low enough that one shot of Skarr's attack killed him allowing me to feign, drop aggro, and then resume taming. The real Challenge is not the special attacks that Blizzard gave these new pets or the locations they are at, it the long spawn times paired with every other hunter trying to tame them at the same time.

As a new hunter at 85 I was very excited to enter the Molten Front.... When I came in I had tamed Skitterflame.... But then I had heard of more rares and one of them was named Skarr. So I figured why not? So I started farming him on the 25th of July. Sooo then I had started looking up how to tame him and came along with a friend who told me I have to tag him Silence Shot and Tame so I thought that was simple enough right? Well when I had figured out the technique and everything I started farmnig him. Well after about 1 day I had logged over to my main pally because my server was raiding Thunder Bluff. So while there I said oh snap Skarr should be up any minute. So I logged off him and got onto my hunter when I did I saw a hunter skipping and saying *I gots him! I gots him!*. So I started panicing and said *Who'd you get?* and he said... Skarr. My heart sunk I said *Ohh nice Grats and he said thanks and I told him my story and he said *O I am sorry I just came up here to do dailies and he was there so I tamed him.... Well so I thought to myself well there will always be next time... So I logged off for a few hours logged on AND HE WAS SPAWNED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I was overwhelmed with excitement I quickly and surely took a great advantage by Serpent Stinging him Silence and Tame. Then I went to Stormwind and showed off my prize. So this day forward everytime I see that hunter I /wave or /salute. Well thats my story. Good luck and happy hunting!

If you are camping this guy and keep getting killed by those horde bastards/alliance scum, then what you do is go to malfurion's breach and use Eagle Eye over on the ridge. Although you won't be able to see him, he should appear on your mini-map with track beasts on. Of course this only works if you're apying attention enough to refresh Eagle Eye every minute.

Spotted him while doing Molten Front quests Saturday afternoon. I'm SV/BM, and I was pretty sure if I took the time to dash off to a trainer to respec to MM, he'd be gone by the time I returned, so I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Used the engineer's High-Powered Bolt Gun to interrupt his fireball, then the deterrence+tame macro someone posted earlier. Got him with a few seconds left to spare! Named him Hematite.

If you notice the only item they drop is called Crystalline Tear of Loyalty , and the description of that item says "The desire to serve as a loyal companion coalesced into a single priceless crystals" and that is the way of Blizzard to say you shouldn't be killing these spawns but instead hunters should tame them (notice the part of : The desire to serve as a loyal companion = A hunter pet)
So yh if a wasnt the first one to notice this sry then i didnt read trough 267 comments ( or something like that) to know if i am stealing someones post or not, but i reached to this conclusion myself so just wanted to put that out there.

PS: There are 10 rare spawns that came in , in patch 4.2.

For god know how many times rares have been killed infront of my eyes when im about to tame it, i really wish instead of dropping a 25G gray it got a health pools increased, a defensive spells ( like a paladin ones to prevent death or a guardian angel priests ) and threefold tanks vengeance ( to pawn those scrubs who tried to kill them ). Or just an increase healthpools is fine, like one of the spiders have a massive health pools.

Just tamed Skarr on whisperwind at 330 server time. Saw Skarr at 7 pm server time and was killed by a worgen warrior. I logged for a bit came back at 1 server and camped. While I was camping an other hunter announced that the purple spider was up up and he helped me tame him. After the purple spider was tamed I went back and camped Skarr. Only about a hour later there he was. It was a very easy tame. Did it as suggested. So I have to say I had a good night and I am a very happy hunter!

Just tamed him on The Underbog at 10:36 A.M server time. I used arcane shot then silencing shot. Used deterrence and tamed pet. Right when deterrence went down he finished casting Fieroclast Barrage which put me at 1 health but i still Skarr him? still at one health right now and not regenerating. In combat log it says Skarr did 87543 damage off of fieroclast barrage but i have 61135 health (because of resurrection sickness). has this happened to anyone else?

Will share the story of both. Normally I'm a SV Hunter, but I knew I was going to be going after these two beasts, and so chose MM as my off-spec purely for

I'd been waiting a few days for both pets, with an eye to getting Skarr in particular. After a few hours, I'm pleased to see Karkin spawn, but he was killed infront of me by a DK who was supposed to strangulate him for me. Displeased with my friend I give him a good earful about it. He then guiltily promised to wait up all night until the next spawn.

To my great surprise, he did, and informed me next time I logged on that Skarr had spawned exactly 6 hours after Karkin's death. So I dutifully wait another 6 hours...

BANG! NPC_Scan goes off and tells me Skarr's in the hood. He was on the Northern Spawn Rocks, but my lack of haste lost me the tame to an Alliance Hunter.

Furious at myself, I log off to play some irl quests. being one of the more tedious dailies...but none the less. I come back five hours later to check for spawns.

NPC_Scan again. Karkin's there. But this time I'm ready for him. I'd done the following,

- Reforged my gear for maximum haste.
- Had a guildie craft some Elixir of Mighty Speed (Potion of Speed wasn't available so I took the second best.)
- Got me some Basilisk LiverDogs which also buff haste.

- Important: I also practised jumping to get the buff from the multiple rocks you jump onto to get to Fireplume Peak. It gives you a 100% haste buff and really can make the difference between a successful tame and a failed tame. Once I knew where the two buff points were, I spent time practising jumping off them at different angles so I'd avoid the elementals and firehawks that wander around - time is of the essence when the NPC_Scan drums sound. Right Hunters?

Karkin was a very simple tame, despite the pressure of an Alliance Hunter stood right beside me. I simply,

Silence Shot
Deterrence
Tame Beast

I didn't need the wind buff for Karkin, but I did take one of my elixirs and ate my haste food during the hour that I thought he'd spawn. Never hurts to be prepared!

So off I go to do my dailies with my new shiny crab friend. He's a good tank! Then I'm back up on Fireplume Peak to do more dailies, still in MM Spec.

So I sit for a while, and another hunter asks me if I'm camping Skarr. I tell him I am, and he informs me that he saw Skarr being tamed an hour previously. I'm confused, since I'd been camping that long and hadn't seen him at all - but the hunter was adamant. We got chatting, and then to my astonishment NPC_Scan goes off again. I pop and theres Skarr on the Northern Spawn Rocks. I tell myself not to panic like I'd done earlier, but the hands are shaking. I grab the wind buff, jump like I'd practised and run like a wild thing towards him.

I'm glad my Elixirs are still up, and my food too - so I settle right into the tame.

No Deterrence this time you see. The 100% haste buff from the wind meant that Skarr really didn't have any time to do pro-damage before he was tamed. I'm not sure how long my Tame lasted, but it really seemed like no time at all before he was mine.

I'm of the conclusion that the spawn time is roughly six and a half hours. That's how long they were for me, over the space of nearly three days. However, Skarr spawned EXACTLY on the 15 minute warning you get before a server restart. I've no idea if this is relevant to his timer, or why he spawned twice in 2 hours but perhaps I just got lucky.

That's my story and I hope it can help any hunters out there who have yet to tame their new friend(s)! Good luck to you all!

Ok so I am on Aggramar and i found Skarr sitting on the rocks on the back side of the island. I had 1 close call with him on my first try and i ran back. Tryed again and feigned and was waiting for cd. Then comes this horde hunter...he decides to stop my tame each time and aggro Skarr...Then comes a decked out Tauren hunter...and tames him in one shot... Thz blizz and players like these guys that ruin the fun sometimes...

The cat is easy to tame and you don't need haste pots or haste buffs. There are two jet streams at the top of the rocks that give you a 100% haste buff once you use them. That's all you need. Lead with silencing shot, deter, and tame. That's it.

Tamed him this morning at 4am at his northern spawn point. Lightning's Blade. I was lucky that I was the only person in the area at the time, so I got to try as many times as I needed to. :)

Did this as mm. Took me a couple tries but I lucked out. He cast his big cast and I silenced it then I was extremely lucky and all that he cast was fireball over and over when I was taming him. So don't give up, sooner or later you might get as lucky as me. Same type of thing happened when I tamed the crab. I was starting to think that maybe you just had to die enough times and then they will only cast the big spell once.

On August 3rd, I tamed Skarr at 4:45pm. I followed my steps for taming Karkin earlier in the day. However, Skarr did not once perform his AoE like the Karkin. I was waiting for the moment to silence him and it never came and so I died from the fireballs. Pissed off that I didn’t act sooner about taming him, I attempted it again starting with arcane shot. This time, his very first attack was the AoE, silenced him, tamed, and got him. By the way, it is true that the Karkin and Skarr spawn within 6-8 hours after each other. Another hunter knew this and expected Skarr to spawn an hour later and decided to log off leaving me alone to tame Skarr.

Server time: 9:50am Karkin tamed (spawn 5 minutes earlier)
4:45pm Skarr tames (spawn a few minutes earlier)

Helpful hints: It is an easy tame when you watch for his attacks. You will need arcane shot to tag him. He will start shooting fireballs at you. It takes a reasonable amount of life, but you can tame him without it knocking you out of the tame. However! When he does his special ability (and I can’t remember the name), you will need to use silencing shot from your marksmanship tree. Even if you are in the middle of taming and the AoE is being casted, press silencing shot and then continue taming him. Without the silencing shot, that ability he does kills you. It is also an AoE. It appears the Karkin and Skarr only perform two attacks: fireballs and the AoE. Earlier in the day, the Karkin performed his AoE killing me and a hunter that was sitting next to me (AFK) instantly. I didn’t use deterrence shot. All I needed was arcane shot and silencing shot. Also he spawned in the same location as the Karkin 36.6,34.8. You don't need to be a BM to tame Skarr or the Karkin.

Hunters please do not call out your pet in the same exact location where other hunters are camping the same pet. Not only is it annoying but it is rude. The camper has to constantly exit WoW and clear their cache in order for the npc to sound for that pet. For some hunters that are camping for hours, even days, that could mean missing out on taming it. If you would not appreciate another hunter doing it to you, don't do it to them. Thank you.

Hey everyone I am a MM night elf hunter I just tamed Skarr this morning about 8:00am EST! I camped out on a ridged starting about 7:00 am EST! As you go up the hill to face the Fireplume Peak u will see the rocks that he would be on some like others have said break apart due to the fire. But anyways I spotted him I was the only one around at that time. So I hit him first with the tamebeast. He hit me with his fire barrage took lil health away from me. but then I shot him with a silence shot and hit the tame beast again. He tried his fire thing again. I hit him with a vemon shot and then tame again. with me having about no health left I got him. Talk about a happy hunter WOW I was so HAPPY! Good luck to all the other hunters that want Skarr. He is truely a very beautiful cat.

While out with guildies attempting to help tame Kirix, though we were unsuccessful, we did have Skarr spawn immediately after someone else tamed Kirix. It was within 30 seconds of Kirix being tamed that Skarr spawned right in front of us. This leads me to believe they share a timer or are associated *somehow* - Mind you, there are tons of posts prior to mine, and I didn't exactly have the time to go through, but I did want to share this little bit of observational information.

It is important to note that you should not name your rare tames after their given NPC name. Many of the newbe hunters on some servers have been doing this with the Cataclysm rares. This causes so much frustration to other hunters, getting false alarms, and ignoring when the rare has spawned thinking it was just someone elses pet. In the past this was common knowledge not to use your rare pet in the location of its spawn, especially if you have given it the NPC name. It is hard enough to even get a chance at a rare tame. Besides, hunters know what rares they are, and if they do not, the name would mean nothing to them anyway.

Easiest pet to tame alone, hardest to tame with friends. This is purely because he has very little health and his attacks are cast. Simply spec into Silencing Shot.

He won't cast the barrage unless you cast Tame Beast first, so tame, silence, and tame.

Tamed on Quel'Dorei @ 3:58am server time.

Had been camping since last spawn/tame of Karkin @ 8:20pm, so a lil over 7.5 hours.
Skarr spawned on the southern lower rock and you don't need to be on a floating rock to tame him there. I just stood on the "shore" in range to tame. Rotation was:

Arcane Shot
Tame Beast (to trigger special)
Silence Shot (when special was cast)
Tame Macro:

/cast Berserking
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

Tamed on Bloodhoof EU last night around 4, went afk for a cigarette, roughly 5 mins later i came back and he was there, just sitting on a rock right in front of me waiting for a master.
Cast tame beast, silence shot his barrage, tame beast again along with deterrence and he was mine=) named it Cristoff, after my boyfriend's character^^ hes my gem! now i just have a hard time chosing between him or Sambas, they are both gorgeous!

Tamed on Akama at 4:43pm server time (8/10/11). I am BM specced, and my heart is still racing!

I have been camping for this guy for the better part of the past 5 days. I have seen Kirix 3 times, Karkin twice, Skitterflame twice, but never Skarr... until today. He spawned on a lower rock on the side of the rock bridge that is closest to The Furnace (exactly the same rock that I tamed Karkin from several days earlier). I was watching a movie on my other screen to pass the time, looked over at my minimap on WoW to check my tracking, and there was a red dot that shouldn't be there. Skarr was already cached on my NPCscan (hunters kept running by with him so I gave up on emptying cache) so I did not get an alarm. I have read that he will also spawn on a group of floating rocks farther to the north (closer to Ragnaros' Reach), but can only confirm seeing Karkin spawn there so far.

I tamed Skarr exactly the same way that I tamed Karkin and Kirix. Get the winds buff from the two special thermal vents on either the left or right side of the rock bridge (it increases attack and casting speed by 100%). Get in LOS of your target (either standing on Fireplume or one of the floating rocks very close to Fireplume... if you move too far away you can lose your buff or accidentally float-hop yourself off the rocks completely), shoot to tag, hit your Deter/Tame macro, and done.

Using this method, it takes slightly less than 5 sec to tame. He did not hit me once. It is a close call though! His stun was about to hit and then the tame completed. You do not need to pop any other haste buffs if you get the one from the special thermal vents (you can if you want to though... maybe if players from the opposing faction... or from your own faction... are really hassling you). The buff is called Convalescence of Winds and its icon looks like a purple sparkly swoosh. It only lasts for 2 minutes.

This buff can be used to tame all of the rare mobs who spawn on Fireplume Peak and even Kirix on The Furnace if you can get yourself in range of him correctly. Makes your tame a very quick affair which means there is very little time for anyone to hassle you.

One of my tips for camping- If you are planning on using the Winds buff, it is safe to park your toon on either of the rocks that give you that special 2 min. buff. Just don't log out there because a lot of times, your toon will glitch and fall through the rock upon login. But I like to sit on those rocks so that I can get my buff immediately and run to whichever side of the island I need to in order to tame my pets. I would get hassled from the opposing faction sometimes, but usually could avoid this by popping Camouflage before they reached me, or simply jumping away onto the island or mainland if they were really determined. Usually if I got ganked, it was because I was afk and didn't see them coming to get me.

I've noticed alot of folks stealing the tame out from under other hunters, I've actually lost count as to how many have done it to me at this point. Seriously if you already have it move on and let others tame it. Two horde guilds on my server (The Scryers) have been particularly bad at this lately, Traitors and Knights of Oasis. If you see someone taming don't shoot and break their tame. Don't abandon your pet just so you can tame it over and over, don't name it the name its given by Blizz and camp on it's spawn point. Seriously, get a life, it's just plain rude and shows that you are a very low quality person to do that to others.
And if you are one of those doing it take note, myself and other alliance hunters are reporting you every time you do it. Eventually Blizz will get tired of hearing from us and deal with you.You might also keep in mind that karma bites back real hard.

Please note that he is very easy for other players to kill. I was questing with my fiancee and when I said "rare" he jumped over to the rock and killed Skarr before I could even say anything. Needless to say it was my first time seeing him and he's a pet I really want. The fiancee is sleeping outside tonight.

Tamed him today with the help of a mage friend. Without my mage, I was able to almost get him tamed, but my deterrence ran out, and I was killed. I was able to tame him by interrupting his fireball with scatter shot, then pop deterrence, while my mage friend cast Time Warp. this sped up my tame beast and I got him just in time.

I love the fact that he isn't spec specific.

So in one night I got Karkin at 2:40am on Cael looking for Skarr then 2 hours later Kirix spawned, lots of people died including me not prepared 6 deaths required to get on platform and tame still waiting for skarr at 9am will update when I get him

I figured what are the odds either would actually spawn in 6 hours, but low and behold when I log in there he is! Heart racing ran over the platforms and tagged him, deterrenced and started taming. Tamed at roughly 9:15 A.M. server time on Kilrogg after the maintenance reboot on 8/16. Used Tame to pull then Silencing shot half way through his Fieroclast Barrage. Then Deterrence/Tame macro FTW.

Was camping him since 3:00 A.M server time so a total of 6+ hours but only 3+ after the server reboot. One of the best cat models in game if not all around. Patience and good rock jumping skills are a virtue.

Only took 4 days of camping. First 2 days were mostly on and off, and saw lots of other things spawn, mostly Skitterflame (when DOESN'T that spawn?) but not until the 3rd day when I was home and sick (so I literally had nothing better to do than sit in front of the computer) that I did a serious camp.

It was Friday. 6am and I logged on, and there were hunters EVERYWHERE! I was feeling rather down about my chances. I was reading through your comments here on wowhead while I waited. Got food about 10am and saw him flash on my Silver Dragon - and some folks were talking about him in general that they saw him (at the eastern end of the island - what has been referred to as the northern spawn point) ... I was camped at the south end of Fireplume Peak and by the time I ran up there another horde undead mage had killed him (I'm a belf). I was heartbroke.
I wrote a letter to his guild leader and let him know about it (cause he spent about 10 minutes bragging and laughing about killing him in general chat).. and the guild leader wrote back that he would take care of things. Whether or not something would happen... (better chance than with Blizz cause it was not against Terms of Service, just mean.)
Anyway, I spent another 18 hours after that and he didn't spawn that day.

Day 4 - Saturday. I had little hope really. I figured it would be crawling with casual players and other hunters so I figured my chances were slim. Go figure. I logged on about 8am, and half hour later he spawned. Oh yeah I freaked... and not a hunter around! What is worse, I couldn't get my timing right and died 4 times trying to tame him. (He spawned in the same spot - the islands on the eastern side - north spawn point.) Do this fast, no hesitation. (I respecced MM just for the tame)

So over the last few days I've been camping Skarr on and off and recording data (some of which has been gained from other players on my server), so here it is. Keep in mind that anything marked as unreliable is unreliable in the temporal sense - it's probably +/- half hour to an hour, however what is reliable is that either Karkin or Skarr spawned.

August 18, 2011:
-6:30am server, Karkin spawn (Unreliable. Secondhand information from another hunter.)

August 19, 2011:
-5:00am local Skarr spawn (Unreliable. Secondhand information from another hunter.)
-5:30pm Skarr spawn.
-5:31pm Skarr tamed (Another hunter).

August 19, 2011:
-11:55pm server Karkin spawn.
-11:57pm server Karkin killed (Myself, out of spite. GRRR WRONG MOB!)

August 20, 2011:
-7:00-8:00am server (Estimated spawn time based on above data.)
-7:45am Skarr spawn.
-7:46am Skarr tamed (Myself).

TL;DR on Proudmoore at least, Karkin/Skarr spawn every approximately 6.5-8 hours (to the point where the morning of August 20, 2011 I logged on and in within 15 minutes Skarr spawned). That's probably a little more luck than good management that I logged on when I did, but nonetheless, I suggest anyone camping this guy to talk to other hunters and see what you can't find out. It just may save you hours of sitting around staring at a computer waiting for NPCScan to proc.

Alright here is my little story...
I was questing today in the big cave underneath where skarr and karkin spawn. My npcscan went off for Karkin. I quickly got to the top, hoping i happened to be under where karkin had just spawned. No luck, it must have been a pet. I finish my 2 quests and come back up to the top to grab the other ones. As soon as i turn the corner, npcscan goes off for skarr. He was sitting on the farthest left rock in the big group of them! Tame went off with no problems. i used the silencing shot/deterrence/tame macro once he started casting.

OFC they killed me, and corpsecamped me. I decided to switch spot, from the flying stone-stairs to the other flying stones. And guess what spawned right on me! =)

Work for any spec if you have DK friend. just need to be a tame range nothing to do with floating rocks and cast youre tame. youre Dk friend need to strangulate at 3/4 for skarr fire skill and you will finish youre tame before he reach mid recasting hes skill work with out any other buff not even food

this is how i tamed skarr. He spawned on the hover platforms at the top. i used the haste buff you get for the air lift and a haste potion. he was tamed in less than 3 seconds. go to the air lift to the right instead of the one that is adjacent to where kirix spawns. jump as close to the platforms as possible but dont aim to far right or you will fall to your death. run over, get in range, then cast tame after you potion up. double check to see if you have the 2 minute buff.

If he spawns in the floating platform at the bottom. go to the same air lift but aim back towards the other air lift. (i only saw this done and did not try it.) once again aim more towards the mountain and not too far left or you die. there is a small lip just to the left of the hanging shelf that looks like a tounge. you only have to get in range and you can cast tame the same way with the haste buff and potion. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAME HIM FROM THE BOTTOM IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CORE HOUND, OR A STAND BY DK. use the air lift haste buff and a haste potion and you are good to go.karkin and skarr are the same. i tamed karkin with rez sickness with this method, never got hit once.

I just tamed Skarr at 545 am server (Crushridge) after many deaths trying to tame him before i finally got the tame perfect.

Use the following haste buffs to help: Elixir of Mighty Speed/Potion of Speed

Start by being the farthest distance you can be to start tame. then start by taming Skarr, when he starts to cast use silencing shot to interrupt and then tame again. he will most likely cast a fireball which wont break tame...at least it didn't for me. he will then cast Fieroclast Barrage. By the time that cast is finished you should have him tamed.

i also spent some time to reforge everything i could to Haste to help. don't know if it did, but i now have him tamed....

P.S. the 200% haste buff from jumping on the lift plumes helps too.

8-27-11 (Saturday): Just tamed Skarr on realm ULDAMAN; after camping on and off for about 2 days, I was ready to go do some BG stuff and... boom... he spawned right in front of me on his floating rock (est ~ coordinates 32.3 x 52.8) at 0605 am realm time and after dying once to get used to Skarr's attack... (used pot and food stam/haste buffs, wearing PvE gear with health about 131K to start)... but finally using Tame, then a"silence shot/deterrence/tame" macro... got em' at 0610 am... yeah!... Tamed tonight at a little before 9:30 pm local/10:30 pm server time on Tanaris server USA. I was watching for him for 2 days before he finally spawned on the East rock formation where Karkin usually spawns. I was down below talking to a friend when I happened to use Eagle Eye and saw him. There was another hunter already jumping up to the island and I got so excited I fell off the rocks trying to climb up. It spawned me on the island though and I ran to where he was and didn't see the hunter but I did see a warlock trying to kill him. I started pleading with the lock to cease and decist. She tried twice and he killed her both times. He hit me and killed me the first attempt because I was low on health. I quickly ran back to him though and did the following, I started to tame and when he started to cast his stun I silence shotted him and then hit deterence and began to tame. I finally got him tamed and am SO happy it is unbelievable. He is the BEST looking cat in game IMO beside the one that looks like the alliance mount.

Tamed both Skarr and Karkin today after a 10 hour camp.

Both share same spawn, CONFIRMED minimim spawn of TWO hours.

BOTH SPAWNED ALMOST EXACTLY ON THE HOUR FROM THE LAST SPAWN TIME!

(Crab spawned at 12 noon on the northern spawn point, and another hunter capped him. Exactly two hours later it spawned again in the same spot, at 2pm and I capped him. Then a 6 hour straight stretch before Skarr spawned on the southern rock at 8 pm. I Don't know if that's set in stone. but I did keep track of times, and found that interesting.)

I did not like leaving my spot to go get a haste buff from the vents, so I used:

-Basilisk Liver Dogs ( +90 haste + 90 stamina for 1 hour)
-Elixirs of Might Speed (+225 Haste for 1 hour)
-Potions of Speed for the 15 second, +500 haste buff when the time came.

( Total Haste is +815 when using all 3, made a HUGE difference in tame)

I also use NPC Scan.

Exactly 6 hours after the last spawn, Skarr popped in.

So.. yea.. on my hunter.. partolling for MF rares.. pow.. i see skarr.. i go to tame skarr.. alliance draenei shaman named Menesha comes out of nowhere and proceeds to interrupt my tame and kill skarr..anyone else think that any rares specifically meant for hunters should instantly one shot any non hunter? because i think that this spitteful act is quite simply outrageous and i don't honestly see why it should be allowed to happen

Just tamed this absolute beauty at 8:23am server time on Lightbringer. he spawned right one of of those little 'stepping stone' rocks.

I tried to tame him as survival, but he was immune to serpent sting and concussive shot didn't do much. A warrior friend came along and interrupted his casts & soon enough Skarr was all mine :) Hits like a kitten if you interrupt ;)

i forgot to ask, i only us SV/MM but with no silence shot, and BM, but still i have no silence shot available. Is there another way to tame Skarr without Silence shot? i was able to tame Karkin with no problems, no even hit, by using the draft, then hit tame, deterrence and tame and bam, he was mine.

But what about Skarr?

Also for hunters camping Skarr remember to check the floating rocks in between Fireplume Peak and Ragnaros's Reach. Both Skarr and Karkin spawned for me on those rocks.

I don't camp these guys. Getting them is more of a chance thing for me. Was doing quests with a friend and npcscan went off so we skirt the fire to get to him as we did the Spire quests not the Fire ones.

I tried 1 way I read to do it early on, using a disposable corehound but it didn't work out so I tried my own method. Solid method, I was very close but a hateful hunter came by and did something that messed me up somehow.

I got back and tried again. Had to be really fast because I was sure the other hunter would be back as well.

I hit skarr with chim. shot and dist. shot to get full on aggro.
Started tame then sil. shot to stop his anti-tame ouchy ability.
Tamed again, popped a haste pot and Deterrence as my friend healed me through all the damage started after my initial attack. I thought tame may have had some special mechanic that reset aggro but healing didn't break the tame and I got him.

Since I really wasn't prepared to even try for him I didn't have time to put in macros or anything so all this was done manually, lol.

Got him on Ghostlands EU today at 14:45 server time. He was standing on one of these floating rocks at 33.52.
It's a very close call, so using food buff / haste pots maybe haste gear as well or any other help you can get will make it much easier..

HOWTO:

Tame -> Silencing shot (timing is crucial here - dont rush with it, just wait till he's almost done with casting) --> Haste pot --> Deterrence --> Tame and he'll be yours...

Finally got mine, easiest when he spawns on the east stone, then you can get wind buff and tame him from the cliff edge. Did it the same as most peeps here, tame pet, silencing shot, /macro deterrence/tame pet, easy as...well pie, it's a cat...get it...nvm

I finally got mine last nite 11pm Eastern time, in Alleria server. After 13 hours of straight camping, and 3 other hunters kept popping in and out and telling me once Skarr comes out it will be there, which was getting me piss since i was camping that day along for so long, plus so many other days few hours here and there.

Funny story, my computer crashed BSOD at 1055p, i was mad, restart and hoping he hasnt spawn. Once logged in NPCscan went off, no hunter around and he was right on the bottom platform waiting for me.

Did it this way, use tame, potion of speed, deterrence and tame. Didnt do Silence Shot since i forgot all about due to the excitement. Next thing i know, my tamed stopped and Skarr was mine.

Tamed this kitty on my 3rd sighting. 1st time, I was totally clueless about what to do and some other hunter basically stole him from me and lol'ed at me :( 2nd time around, a horde hunter was there and I barely made it to the spawn location and he was done 2 seconds later. Between now and then I've been camping for about 3 days straight, without moving my toon at all. Got Kirix, Karkin (spawned at least 3 times instead of Skarr) and Skitterflame while waiting. Using "Eagle Eye" on different corners of the area. When time came, I was ready and knew exactly what to do. He spawned on one of the floating rocks right across the graveyard at 7:35am on Monday the 5th of September on Burning Legion - EU and it took me a single try to get what I aimed for.

/cast Silencing Shot (when he does his terrible stuff)
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

The same rogue who helped me tame Ankha whispered me again. Now Skarr was up!
He invited and mass summoned me again and I tamed Skarr.
I was BM, so 2x arcane shotand then macro deterrence with tame beast and rogue kicked Skarr.
No prblem with the tame.

Tamed just a couple hours ago on Earthen Ring. There was a female orc hunter that had been camping him for some time, but when I went back one last time to check and Skarr was up, said hunter was away. I dropped in, tamed quick and stoned back to Org before the orc ever got back from afk. Sad, but them's the breaks. I respecced to MM, silenced the Barrage, hit deterrence and tame beast. Easy peasy. Pretty cat, named him Tungsten for his metallic appearance.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I strike again!

I entered Molten Front at 12:27 Ran to his 1 of 2 spawn points, and went to Fireplume Peak on a gut feeling.

Sure enough i saw a wonderful kitty there, just sitting looking all alone.

Soon as i saw him, i started to shake, because i did not know how this would go.

As a BM hunter, i pop'd a Haste Flask > Deterence > Tame, his fire bolt spell went by me and i ended up taming such a wonderful creature at 12:28pm 7/9/11

While attempting to help a hunter tame Kirix on my warrior, Skarr popped. Already have him on my hunter, and since I despise killing rares, I went about attempting to find a hunter for this lovely cat.

Once I did, I had to explain how to tame him, and thankfully the hunter got him. So to any Fizzcrank hunters looking for him or Karkin, do note that he was recently tamed! I hope this will be of help to the Hunters, and that all get their lovely pets soon~

So I tried doing this with Ancient Hysteria, haste food, and no Speed Potion.. I was at it for a half hour before some other hunters came. Don't know who snagged him because I was corpse running..
Edit: Tamed on the third day. I tried getting help but to no avail. I had to respec MM to do it. Tame>Silence Shot>Deterrence>Tame Beast. I also tried reforging my gear to get as much haste as possible.

Tamed Skarr yesterday around 11:30pm Realm Time on Dawnbringer I had been half-heartingly been searching for the Hyjal rares (taming Ban'thalos the same day) when I moved into the Firelands, going to one of the spawn areas and deciding to wait a bit while my boyfriend was coming back from dinner.

As I waited - on General chat someone said "Hunters, hunters, hunters ... Skarr is here" I instantly jumped up and asked where - of course he spawned on the rock platforms in Fireplume Peaks so I did the only thing to get there fastest - I jumped off into the abyss and accepted the res. sickness (the rock platforms are right by the spirit healer ) so I ended up with 50k HP to do the tame. There he was with the player, who also had himself a Skarr.

I switched from my main Beast Mastery spec into Marksminship - popped a haste potion and started to tame, a few seconds before he hit me with a his barrage I popped silencing shot and restarted the tame, he hit me with a few fireballs by the end of the tame - so I was around 33k HP by the end of it, but was very excited!

I thanked the player and offered to tip him 50g for helping me find him, he declined the money and simply said "Fellow hunter, no reward needed"

:) Named him Sin - a very rewarding and heartwarming addition to my collection ^^

I think all hunters need to be reminded of the hunter edict easpecially hunters that are cross- faction. If there is a hunter there when you arrive to the animal they have taming rights first. If (and only if) while taming they die or leave you then have rights to taming that beast. Remember that you cannot talk to that player, except through emotes, so be courteous. Also remember that you now know the time in which the beast spawns so be the first there next time. Be patient and wait you turn.

I just caught this guy. There were two other hunters there of the same faction trying as well. We were all taking turns at it and kept dying. One hunter brought an alliance DK to taunt it off of us so we couldn't tame it. Then I brought a healer. GG my pet :p

I didn't go through the 300+ comments, but I snagged him today around 1:00am server time on my crappily green-and-blue geared hunter with sub-100k HP. Did the same thing I did when taming Terrorpene: Prismatic Elixir.

Took two tries, I felt not so smart when I totally forgot to pop any cooldowns *at all*, but survived Fieroclast Barrage, and his fireball finished just as Tame Beast did.

Tamed this lovely chap on my hunter alt the day after I tamed Kirix, so was surprised and happy. However where I died at least ten times failing to correctly jump onto a platform before taming Kirix, taming Skarr was easy. From my experience there isn't even a need to silence his Pyroclastic Barrage, I tamed him in BM spec. I got the Convalescence of Winds buff from platforming, pulled out Chromaggus and popped Ancient Hysteria and put my core hound away again, shot him with a Widow Venom just to get his attention before allowing him to shoot fireballs at me, as he began casting Pyroclastic barrage I Deterrenced and began taming. Suddenly I was told I could not carry anymore pets before kicking myself, only to find Skarr had beamed over to my side. One shot tame, and as lovely as Kirix! If this fails then just Silence him but you shouldn't need to.

This is a response to rgrim's post...I dont think anyone has "Taming rights" to any animal in this game.Every animal is fair game to every hunter.I have found that out the hard way lol.You will rarely find anyone that will give up the pet they want and have been waiting for just like you have just because you are there too.It doesnt matter what faction you are.If a person has been waiting for the pet too then they dont care if you are there first.I have been camping pets since Loque first came out and even though i was the first one to touch down in the area that morning or what ever time it was,i was always joined by either alliance or horde and they didnt care if i had been sitting there first or not or waiting for hours on end and its been like that ever since and pretty sure its like that with everyone.I cant tell you how many times I lost Terrorpene to an alliance on my horde or to horde on my alliance hunters lol.I'm not downing what you are saying and i do agree that if someone dies while the person is taming then the next tame should go to the next hunter.I came upon Skarr a while back and no one was there but a gob hunter who had him already so i tried to tame him and died a couple of times because i wasnt doing something right.Third time i tried to tame him,the gob deterred,feigned and made skarr hit and kill me some how.Well,he continued to do this for some time so i finally got pissed off,made a horde and asked him why he was doing this since he already had him.He told me that he's waiting for "his friend" to get home and log on so she can tame him since she had been waiting for him for a couple of weeks.Was that a nice thing to do for a friend if that was the case? YES.Was that fair to other people who were waiting for skarr too? NO.Soo,i went back and the guy was sleeping there right in front of skarr lol as if to say "go ahead and try because I'm not going to let you have him".I hit my /cast deterrance /cast tame macro,hit hit me once,i silenced him,his fireball missed and boom i got him lol and to this i turned around and slapped the little gob right on the face :) Dont know why but this time the tame worked even though i did the same thing the first few times.In any case my point is that you dont have the right to tell anyone that you cant have that pet.It is a game :)

I cannot BEGIN to tell you how angry and upset I am over this pet. I camped for 20 hours over a 2 day period recording spawn times and working schedules. All the pets around me, good data for people to use and get thier own pets, but today I think has killed the hunter in me. Granted I am a Mage, but what happened today was short of clubbing a baby seal JUST to watch it die.

So the name is ElSuprbeasto, server is Moonguard. Horde. I spent 20+ hours camping, saw 3 Karkins, a bunch of spiders, and ONE Skarr. it was the 21 hr of camping, npc went off, it was on the main entrance by where kirix spawns, not th esemi secluded rock one North. I jump down, tame, interupt, and tame.. 3 seocnds to tame, AN ALLIANCE HUNTER KILLS THE CAT... MID TAME.. ON PURPOSE.. FOR NO REASON.. I cannot begin to tell you the fury within me. Im abouncer at a bar and I would have chokeslammed this idiot thru the floorboards had he been in front of me. I could see just logging in and all of a sudden, it pops. no big deal. BUT, I mean 20 hours? And another HUNTER of all things? I will no longer play this hunter from today on. its absolutly RIDICULOUS that blizz would allow another player of an opposite faction to kill a pet you have tagged. I mean why not HELP a hunter at LEAST giving the pet immunity from other people durring a tame? Its a HUGE flaw in the system and makes it undesirable to have to play against.

I just got him today at about 7:30 am EST. He was VERY easy to tame...

Start the tame as soon as he starts to cast Fieroclast Barrage use Silencing Shot (Marksmanship talent) then either have the macro;

/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

or manually click each skill. After you do this is a no brainer. He is yours.. ALSO. Another note.

He spawns in a different location other than showed above. You have to jump up all the rocks as soon as you get to Fireplume Peak. Stay right and you will see some more rocks floating in the air. I will be submitting a Screen shot of where I found him and maybe this will help!

Just tamed Skarr and Magria within 15 mins of each other this morning :p I was on my way to Molten front when I found Magria but as I didn't have a BM spec I had to hearth and respec and quickly head back to tame.... I then did my molten front dailies and found Skarr on a rock right by the daily quest givers...

My 1st tame attempt on Skarr failed due to a mistimed deterrence but I didn't die and while I was waiting for my deterrence CD another hunter showed up and I was really worried he'd tame.... luckily he didn't and I successfully tamed him on the 2nd attempt as BM spec using a potion of speed and a well timed Deterrence.

Finding Skarr was very satisfying as i've found Karkin (the crab who shares the same spawn spots) around 7 times already...

Been camping this beauty for 4 days solid only logging off at night for a kip, i've seen 7 Karkin spawns and not one Skarr, until this morning, logged on ran around to fireplume peak and Kirix was up so i thought there would be no chance of him being there and who should be sat on his little rock on the lower steps, this little baby :D hit tame, then silenced his barrage, hit detterance then tame again and the rest is history :)

Update: Skarr spawned again around 15:00 UK time on the upper level of fireplume peak , a guildie wanted him but had to pop out somewhere, 30 mins later she returned and successfully tamed him. He doesn't spawn for 4 days then twice in one :)

Just tamed @ 7.15am server time on Frostwolf, hadn't seen him for 4 days, saw Karkin 7 times in that period tho.... Very very easy tame, don't even worry about deterrance and stand on the edge of the main island, tame beast and silencing shot is well within range... Pop a tame, hit SS then retame, got hit with 3 fireballs max and he's mine :)

Just got him at cords 36,36 on Eldre'Thalas. Time was 12:46pm, wait today was about 2 hours, Cant remember how long I've been hunting him. NPCScanner was off because of so many people in the zone using him, which gave me lots of false alerts this week.
The Tame Beast, Silencing Shot, and Macro worked for me. I was also using Broiled Mountain Trout, Elixir of Mighty Speed and poped a Potion of Speed to boost my haste.

I know all about false alarms with Skarr and the spiders. The majority of times I go to MF my alarm blares every five mins until most npcs are cached. The only one not to have been cached so far is Karkin.

Before I knew anything of the Flameward Hippogryff the only reason I wanted to come to the Molten Front was so I could tame Skarr. I didn't care about the dalies or the title, I just wanted Skarr. I liked Deth'tilac aswell but never thought i'd be able to tame it (but I did). So on my third day of being able to cross the furnace after seeing no wild Skarrs at all I got lucky.

Today I spent a lot of time hanging around Skarr's spawn areas mainly doing the dalies but with no sign of him. When I am getting close to exiting the game for the night I decide to check one last time and my npc scan goes off showing Skarr when i've only just reached the furnace. Forgetting that I had cleared my cache and that the map is a lot smaller than usual (so the range seems to cross a third of the full map) I think it's another false alarm.

That's when I remember the map size and see the red dot where i've never seen a red dot before, I click the Skarr on my scanner and sure enough I get the Skarr portrait with the silver dragon and get there as fast as possible.

For some reason I thought Skarr appeared on the lone floating rock near where Kirix spawns so I was hastily jumping over the ones near the druids when I notice the big green targeting arrow pointing at the kitty right next to me!

Tame goes off easily, tame>silenceing shot>tame. Didn't bother with deterrance, didn't need it. He's beautiful, so powerful looking!

Just got him today, i dont know if it was a glitch but i stayed on the main land (didnt jump onto any of the small rocks) and tamed him form there, in mid tame he failed to cast and then all of a sudden he went friendly, not a scratch on me, then he ported over to me and that was that, he was mine. i was so confused, but happy none the less :P

Just tamed Skarr on Laughing Skull 12:45am server time. Very easy tame compared to the others, just hard to find. Casted tame first, silenced Barrage, deterrence and tame. GG.

Also, forgot to mention earlier. Thank you to the nice Horde hunter who pointed at Skarr and then left me to tame him. Very nice person.

Normally I don't post brag stories, but this one's the best yet.
I spotted Skarr again 21 hours after taming it on Windrunner, sitting on a rock near the Druids of the Talon questgivers, and since I have it already, and no Horde hunter was online in my guild and Molten Front, I decided to /who Hunter and picked a random hunter who's in org. I invited him, mass summoned him on the portal to Molten Front, and presented him Skarr, sitting there, along with an eyeing Alliance hunter with a few deaths thanks to the fire on the way to fireplume peak (he doesn't do quests there afaik.)

He had no MM spec w/ Silencing Shot, but I had one, so while he attempted to tame it, I silenced shot it but it got followed by an auto-shot which lost the tame beast aggro, killing both of us. What I did afterwards was macro silencing shot with /stopattack, and asked him to macro deterrence to tame beast. After taking him to jump on the rocks to get the haste buff, he accidentally fell to Skarr's rock (high jumps thanks to the buff), but he feigned death. So he had lost his haste buff, and he popped deterrence too early, and playing dead in front of Skarr too.

So he popped tame beast again, and while Skarr was almost done casting Fieroclast, I silenced it using the macro and mouse-turned quickly away from him just in case. He was successful, nearly dead after the fireballs Skarr had casted.

Didn't get a tip, but thanked me graciously and called me amazing, it felt good needless to say :) moreover, it's +1 to the Horde hunters of Windrunner (server overpopulated by Alliance)

I've been looking forward to taming this guy since the first day I rolled a hunter alt. He finally appeared around 2am Monday morning on the Crushridge server. Right before I was about to log off! I had been camping him for hours every day for a week. A few days prior I had literally camped him from about 11am to 3am the following morning. I saw Karkin twice but no Skarr.

NPC scan shows another spawn point for him where Karkin spawns but he spawned for me in the location shown on the wowhead map. He was on a platform well beneath the ones you jump on to get to Fireplume Peak.

All I did was cast Tame Beast to get him to start his Fieroclast Barrage, silence shot it, then use my Deterrence/Tame Beast macro. It was a piece of cake. It's the same method I used to tame Karkin. I don't think I went below 80% health with either tames. I can imagine how much of a pain it would be though without some form of a silence. I myself got one shotted standing too close to a hunter trying to tame Karkin without one. After that I respeced into Silence Shot but now that I have both Karkin and Skarr I can spec out of it.

Just helped a hunter get this on my mage. Was doing dailies and did a /tar skarr and saw he had spawned. I have him already on my hunter and wanted to help another hunter out so did a /who stormwind and messaged the first hunter I saw there. He came over, I hero'ed and then counterspelled the barrage, one fireball later he had a new pet. Was almost as excited as he was :)

So i'm a pally on Lethon server i was doing my dailys when i ran into a fellow cow trying to tame it i lohed him took aggro and well we both got raped . So while it was running back me and that random hunter i met tried taming it was easy really he started taming i just Rebuked and stunned the kitty and he tamed it np :) Then ofc the hunter gets on a horde alt starts spamming all this bull sht then ignores me and bla bla the usual anyways i really wish i could tame that cat on my hunt but im to lazy to do dailys :(

Sorry guys I had to post this and sorry if its a repost.

Once I got into Molten front, I didn't feel like doing all the quests to get through the fire.

I ran on the left edge and fell off onto a lower ledge you should be able to see half way up.

After skirting the lower edge around to the back where my main would fall, jumping on rocks for the quest, I jumped off and died.

I ended up at the Res Angel on the other side. I turned and went to the edge and he was right there, I was like OMG!

I rezzed there and did the following!

1) Stayed on the edge where he couldn't reach me.

2) Tamed and he started casting his Big Boom Spell.

3) Silenced his Big Boom Spell then started taming again.

4) He stayed on his platform and just casted fireball twice at me before he was tamed.

5) He ported to me after taming and I'm a happy camper.

Best 2 minutes of my hunters life, hope this helps you others!

Totally frustrated. 4:00PM server time...Skarr spawns. I had prepped for it and thought I had made room for it (foreshadowing). NPC scan goes off...found Skarr...tamed Skarr...message to me-"You have too many pets already"...Skarr goes by by...
1 hour later while still sitting and ^&*!@ing and yelling at myself...NPCscan goes off again for Karkin. A horde huntard got him before I could get there. NOW...while I type this...30 minutes have passed and NPCscan goes off for Kirix...

Crazy day on the rare tamable mob scene...thought that I had the spawn timer plan ready to go...now that's blown.

3. active its ANCIENT HYSTERIA

9. INTERUPT your taming, when he is about to finishing cast his Fieroclast Barrage
and cast DETERENCE(5 sec.)
10. start cast TAME BEAST once again

Yeah so...after losing out on everything yesterday due to someone else being quicker or my own stupidity...
Logged in today...hopped around a bit...Kirix spawned...took a couple of tried to get the timing down on his poison release...but picked him up. HS's back to drop of some junk, repair and pop some inscription odds N ends in the AH. Jetted back to Molten Front and Ban'thalos was flying around. Already have him, but no one else was getting him and I wanted to test a theory...I went through the same steps as I had B4 to tame him and got him off the board again. Quickly I flew into MF and within 10 minutes Solix was up...tamed him...abandoned since I like the Kirix look better. Went to camp Skarr...15 miuntes later Karkin spawned and I got him. So I'm thinking that the fabled spawn timer of 6-9 hours is just that-fabled. It almost seems that a steady rotation of 10-30 minutes occurs once a rare is tamed or killed. I'll continue to test.

My apologies to the hunter on Dalaran. I came to firelands, saw Skarr. Saw 3 skeletons and a dead body next to him. I waited a bit, to see if someone res'd. No one did, so I cast distracting shot, silencing shot then tame beast. seconds later; I had a new pet. Right before tame pet popped, the dead hunter res'd . I am sorry I grabbed him from ya, but I really thought you gave up, since I waited and no one ever came.

Just tamed Skarr with the Tame Beast -> Silencing Shot on 1st Fieroblast -> Deterrence/Tame Beast macro.

My wait time was 8 hours and 15 minutes. I saw Karkin tamed at around 2:45PM server and tamed Skarr myself at 10:59PM server.

I know a lot of people have said that Skarr shares the same respawn as Karkin, but unless it was a coincidence I believe it shares the same timer as Kirix as well.

Today at around 18:30 I went to do my fireland dailies, and ended up face to face with Kirix, that was turning around near the npc's. After 2 deaths I managed to tame Kirix. After that I waited around camping Skarr for 3 hours and no spawn.

Came back at 22:30 just to check and Skarr was spawned on the rocks near the npc's. Thanks to the tips written here I tamed him from the first try.

PS Edited to correct one grammatical error which seems to have more significance than the comment itself. Ignorance is bliss.

Tamed at 9:45am Jubei'Thos. Doing my rare spawn run-arounds on my hunter, I went to the Molten Front. I had never seen Skarr spawned or being tamed, and he was cached in my NPCscan, so I was scanning the red dots as I rode past. I noticed one that said 'Skarr', and though it would be some Alliance hunter pulling a prank, as there were 6 Horde hunters around in /who. As I got closer I saw a little black kitty sitting on one of the low floating rocks, my heart started racing. I told my friend what I had found, and he decided to come and help me by interrupting the spells (my hunter is BM/Surv). Being a warrior, he kept taking aggro, so we died a few times. A shaman then came along, and I asked for his help to interrupt the spells, which ended up going well, until a jealous Alliance hunter saw what I was doing and started to kill Skarr. In rage I turned around and killed him, but due to this Skarr ended up killing me and the shaman. When we ressed, we tried again, this time the hunter returned, and just as I was about to finish the tame he scatter-shotted me, and I died. When my shaman friend killed the hunter and ressed me, once more we tried, and the hunter returned, this time attempting to kill the shaman, which he did, yet he wasn't watching me, and I successfully finished the tame, then proceeded to kill the hunter with the pet he once tried to kill.
Moral of the story - Don't try and ruin someone else's tame because you were too late, because nothing good will come out of it

I tamed Skarr on Nordrassil yesterday after camping for several days waiting for a spawn.
During the wait, I managed to tame all of the other hard to tame rares inside Molten Front, and also helped a few other hunters tame the same ones in the process. Kirix was the least rare, spawning several times a day, but also the most challenging, having to jump to the rock in the middle of nowhere, skitterfang was the easiest just using scare beast/tame. Anthriss, concussive, disengage to a DEEP pool, swim up and tame. Skarr took me 3 times before the adrenaline rush subsided and was able to hit the keys at the right times. I used the same tame process as was described many times on this post. Kirkin was identical to skarr. After I got those, I left molten front and tamed ban' thalos and ankha just a few minutes apart.
Another hunter paid me 300g to help me get him Kirix..I even gave him a haste pot to use and walked him through it step-by-step, so I passed that on to the druid that helped me get ban'thalos, even though he wasnt much help...but the thaught was there and he stuck it out. I think I was added to several friends lists during this time.
All 9 rares I tamed in a 3 day window. Still waiting on Magria.
Skarr is by far my favorite, and using him doing my arch just strengthened that...he held agro like a king...and summoned a meteor, 1 shotting the pygmy in uldum...HOLY COW...did I just see that?

I read alot about how to tame skarr, but nothing on his abilities...he howls, buffing strength and agility for group members...then inflicts massive fire damage to mobs...best. pet. ever.
Oh, regards to an earlier post...if you are dead...you CANNOT jump across the islands in molten front as a ghost..you fall straight through them, having to go back to the graveyard.

Tamed him as BM. Made sure to get the winds buff as I got to the main platform, just go up the right side of the rock platform path and use the wind jump at the top.
Stood on the MAIN platform and did not jump onto any of the small ones beside him.
Didn't attack him at all, just hit Det+tame, went off without a hitch.

You dont need that haste buff the wind above Skarr gives.

Just jump to the floating stone above Skarr and do the following:

Here you autoshoot Skarr once.

Silence shot once he casts his barrage spell.

Deterrence.

Tame Beast.

Falling off and dying results in 4-5mins before next try, as you always seem to end up on the GY furthest away, travel back and get a 2min rez wait. Doing it above like I did, save time, gives more trys; and is overall easier.

Not that difficult of a tame as MM. Got it first try. I just began a normal tame, silence shotted his cast, then used this macro:

/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

I have 9.80% haste and did not need any extra haste benefits. Suffered minor damage but well worth it. I had tamed Karkin approx. 3 and a half hours before with the same tactic. Works fine. His respawn is supposedly 3-9 hour spawn (shared with Karkin). If you have NPCscanner you might get lucky if you cast Eagle Eye at all the spider spots. Found Deth'tilac but some other hunter got to him before I did, and Deth'tilac commited suicide killing the hunter. =(

Just tamed on Archimonde at 630am server on 10/25...

Had just finished my dailies and decided to take one last look to see if he had spawned before I logged out. Even though I hadn't opened up the Druids of the Talon quests yet, I found a way to bypass the fire that blocks most of the way. As you're facing the fire, go along the edge to the left. Get as close to the edge as you can to avoid as much fire damage as possible. Once past all that check to see if he is at his southern spawn point and if not then use Eagle Eye to see if he's at his northern (thats where he was for me).

Once you are in position get as far away from him as you can but still within range to tame. Start your tame and he will immediately start casting his Fireoclast Barrage. Wait a second and then fire a Silencing Shot to interrupt then resume your tame. He will continue to shoot fireballs at you but the damage they do is minimal (my iLvl was 349 and I still had at least 75% health left after tame). No haste buffs were used.

Overall, a very easy tame. The challenge was getting to him and making sure to interrupt his barrage.

Is it just me, or is this pet's model glitched? I swear, every Skarr I see is staring straight at the ground like he did something wrong and he knows that you know. Even when he pulls back and yawns, his gaze is still intently glued to the ground.

I just silence him when he use barrage and pop deterrence and start tame. But when he cast his first fireblast i complete tame even though i was only in half of casting time.

I got Skarr at 10:55 server time and again at 5:35 serer time. It appears that he is around a 6.5hr spawn timer at least on my server (Lightninghoof). Simple tame: Tame => Silence => Tame => Mine. It appears from my experience and a few others on my server that he favors the south spawn point over the north but it might be different on other servers.

Just picked this guy up on Malygos at 1835.

Haste, time warp and all that will work with the deter/tame macro to get him or you can have a mage counterspell right before he gets his cast off and you will be golden. I tried the haste and all that and would still end up just short, thank god for FD, but the mage with counter works perfect. I would assume that a DK with strangulate works fine as well. Just make sure that whatever you use doesnt dmg him or it will stop the tame and you wil have to do it all over again.

1 more tame and ive got all the challenge pets. Magria seems to not wanna pop whenever im around. His counterpart has been there a few times, but no Magria.

I was there on my pally (PerryCS) and someone called out Skarr. I went over, looked at it. Liked it. Thought to myself - crap - I havnt done hardly any Firelands dailies on my hunter. Hmmm... I'll try running through the fire... Switched to my hunter. Flew from SW. Ran into the dailies area. Mounted. Ignored all the quest givers. Headed straight for the fire! I got a ways into the fire and poof. Dead. Rezzed. Ran 2 steps. Died. Rezzed and was just able to rez just outside the fire. Ran over. Saw Skarr. Tried it with BM. Didnt work well. Even tried the stun. Changed to MM. Silenced him. I did NOT cast deterence. And had him 1st try.

I did buff myself with a scroll +150 Stamina.
I did eat 90 Haste Food/Stam

The 1 fireball he got off. Missed me. :) Not fireball... was it firebarrage? Whatever it was - it missed.

Had no problems except running past the fire and dying. I would have to say I like this pet better than the other rare one I got outside. The white tiger that you have to take your armour off for.

Love the glowing red eyes. Too bad there wasn't a wicked smile to go with the cat... Cheshire Styles :)

Just thought about something - you could probably buy one of those +500 haste potions before going to grab him! Hope that helps someone! Heck, there might even be a better +500 haste potion out there since the one I am thinking of was from WOLK.

Is the only way taming Skarr in Beast Master Spec is by using the wind buffs?
I tried using hero and I still failed.
And stop posting a million comments saying how you all tamed him using Silence Shot in Marksmanship spec. 99% of the comments I see how to tame Skarr, oh it's easy just use SS. >:(

Tamed Skarr not too long ago on Hyjal at around 12:30 AM and the build up to this moment was just epic.

After hours of Horde hunters tripping my _NPCScan with their own Skarr pets, Karkin spawned instead of Skarr. I didn't need him, so I got ahold of a fellow hunter via the chat and insisted on helping them tame the crab. She died the first time, so I gave her my last speed pot and swapped to BM so I could help speed her up with my corehound's buff. She got her own Karkin. It felt good helping her out considering how so many of the opposing faction hunters were being very unsportsmanlike with me camping there.

Anyways, I get back to camping and I go for another two hours before I end up logging off for a bit. I had given up by this point and took the next four hours to study for a midterm exam I had this week. Right before bed, I log on one last time and there he is. He was just sitting there, about two rocks away, looking in my general direction – like he was waiting for me this whole time or something.

I switched to MM, fake tamed, silence shot, and tamed one more time. It was a painful trip, but I finally got him. Definitely one of my favorite models, but he takes a lot of commitment unless you're extra lucky.

i found a real simple way to get this pet with using haste food and buffs... real simple when you get to him hit tame beast off the bat he will cast his major spell silence shot it hit detterance then tame beast you will block 2 fireballs and the third will hit you without interupting tame beast...and bam easy pet

Caught this guy today, wasn't too hard. I was just messing around on my Hunter and decided to see if he was there and sure enough he was. Unfortunately there were already four other hunters there trying to tame him so I decided to sit back and watch. After about 45 minutes or so of watching them die I got bored and waited for them all to die again, and just hopped over and tamed him. I apologized to the other hunters but really, at the rate they were going they probably would have just given up or gotten mad and killed him.

Just tamed him today as marks, and I'm quite happy with him.

Here's a tip for those who might be on a pvp server and have decided to camp him like I did. Other then the obvious of making a macro for deterrence and tame beast, make a macro with your haste/cast speed increasing cooldowns/trinkets.

It might seem odd to do it like that when you could just go and get the buff from jumping into the air vents but in some cases you might not be able to do that, especially if there are other hunters/the other faction in the area. It never hurts to be prepared.

For me my haste macro looked like this:

/cast Berserking
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Lifeblood

And it cut my cast time to about...5 seconds at the most. Plus you can use the macro later on for raiding or something else I suppose.

I'm not really sure what the "challenge" of taming this cat was supposed to be.

I literally spotted him by complete accident while doing my dailies, stood close enough to the edge rather than on the floating rocks to reach him with my tame.

Dismissed my current pet, and tamed this one up in seconds.

No challenge, no deaths, no annoying stacking fireballs, no barrage.

So a lot of the guides are somewhat inaccurate at the moment, and I had a hell of a time with this guy today.

-You don't have to jump on the rocks for the haste buff anymore, in fact it vanishes as soon as you leave the ledge with the Fire Hawks on it.
-His Fieroclast Barrage WILL interrupt your tame
-He is not trappable
-Stack haste to make your tame spell as fast as you can make it.
-It helps to be specced into silencing shot
-Make sure to have a haste buff food on you (I used Very Burnt Worg and a few Potion of Speed (you will need one for every attempt)

Taming
Get within range of him, and start a false tame. If he does not start a Fieroclastic Barrage within the first couple hits, FD and try again. You need to be able to take 2-3 fireballs during your actual tame without dying.

Once he begins casting Fieroclastic Barrage, Silence him or put deterrence up before he finishes his cast.

Potion up and begin your actual tame. You should complete before he finishes casting his next Barrage.

I've been sitting at the end of the rock path in the thermal vent that gives you the haste buff just waiting for this to spawn and I learned a few things.

1. Some Hunters like to mess with NPC Scan by pulling out all of their rare pets one after the other.

2. Once someone with Skarr comes by and sets off your NPC scan, if you leave the graphic up you can click it occasionally to see if he's spawned (from the Thermal Vent rock you cover both spawns).

3. Barring that, you can jump to the island and alt-F4 out of the game, delete the creature cache and log back in pretty quick. Edit: Do not log out on the floating rock as you will be falling when you log back in.

4. You can jump back to the floating rock with the Haste buff Thermal Vent pretty easy from the back of a mount from Fireplume Ridge instead of jumping back up the rocks.

5. Eagle Eye actually has a use! You can look at both spawn areas with it (again, if NPC Scan got triggered).

6. You can get a lot of reading done waiting for this spawn, especially if you were there the last time it spawned but got beat out on the tame.

Had a lock named Jackyl message me saying he was up, offered to summon me, and kept an eye out whilst I went to respec/stable a pet. I am not sure if they nerfed him a bit, but it was stupid easy to tame him as of Nov. 22, 2011.

I try everything to tame this beast I die over and over.. A Tauren Hunter shows up I'm like I have no chance.. you have to be reallllllllly really lucky to tame this guy. Ive been trying for days and ive even been there when hes spawned but there 4 or 5 already at the tame immediately. Same for Kirix the rare spider. Everytime im in the area doing dailies theres tons of hunters there, of which a few already have him and kirix. If youre not the only hunter on your entire server at that EXACT perfect time they both spawn, theres no chance. Odds are so great its not even in the topic, its at the right spot, closest to the rare cat or spider complete luck.

also, i use npcscan and its a SOB to depend on cause if someone has them as a pet, it will go OFF over and over.

for the love of God fellow hunters, do NOT bring your pet with u to the area just to do dailies where he is and some of us are trying to tame. I have all the spirit beasts and i havent seen one hunter flashing a spirit beast at the spawn area? Thats just ignorant and Its seriously a pain in the ass.

Personally i think most hunters do it on purpose cause its highly likely they have npcscan as well and know exactly whats goin on.

This makes u a FAIL at the fellow hunter class.

Okay, here's the deal - He's NOT hard to tame!

1 - To get up to him, run up the left hand side of "The Furnace" fire path. Make sure you have noms with you, as you will get singed. Run through the first flamey bit, pause to eat. Repeat with the second. Now, head towards the center (33/66 area) and stay to the left of the flames.

2 - You'll see a bunch of little platforms (34/55). Carefully jump up them (some crumble, so watch out) to make it to Fireplume Peak. If you make it to the highest platform, your last jump will be accelerated, and you'll land on a higher ledge around 29/48. If he's spawned below you, stay up there, and skip to step 4.

3 - If he's spawned at 37/35, move as close as you can without leaving the main ground area of Fireplume Peak. There should be a little area jutting out where you'll be in easy range. You don't need to jump on the platforms to get closer to him.

4 - In Marksmanship spec, begin casting Tame. He will begin his special move. Before he's had a chance to complete the cast, take 1 step backwards (interrupting tame), cast Silencing Shot, then immediately hit tame again.

If you've done this correctly, you'll be hit with a few fireballs, but they barely register and don't interrupt your casting.

Just a note, as a tamed pet Starr loses all his special abilitys. Tamed he is the same as any other cat.

Also you do not need to be on his rock to tame him.

Sukinorthman has it right on. I just tamed (Blade's Edge - 5:16pm EST) Skarr using this approach and it worked beautifully. This really is a very simple tame.

Per the excellent instructions, I started to tame, silenced his special ability, and then tamed again. I got hit by three fireballs, but still had half my health left when the tame was complete.

As others have mentioned, finding Skarr is mostly about being lucky and/or being in the right place at the right time.

Tamed this today on my hunter. I didn't need anything special, just some tactics.

First though my hunter has an average haste rating of 655 as MM. I actully did this with res sickness with those stats so it honestly doesn't seem to matter so much.

All I did, was open on taming him standing on the main landmass, and he began to cast his main spell, I silenced him, and began taming. He cast 2 fireballs, which didn't stop my cast, and just as he began to cast his big spell again I got the tame in on the second before he cast it.

Do the same, try having a potion of speed handy. Just start taming, silence his Fieroclast Barrage, tame again the secon you have and with luck and good haste rating your have him.

Every single rare in there was there.
I gave up on all the spiders except for Deth, I tamed him around 4:30 am after 30 minutes of trying, he kept bugging on me right when I had the chance to tame the sucker.
After I tamed him, I decided to go back and see if Skarr was still there.
BAM, npc tracker went nuts again! So I ran through the fire like a boss, died and ressurected and went to him.
I had a little trouble at first, only because I didn't read anything about it.
Hit tame beast first, then right when he was about to cast his interrupt, I interuppted him, and had a smooth tame.
Just got him at 5:44am.
I almost rage quitted on him, but he's mine! I've been super lucky with rares lately.
Going for the tigers tomorrow,!
In a 3 day span, I've managed to obtain Sambas, Karoma, Loque, Skoll, The spirit bear, Deth, Skarr, AND Gondria.
You can probably say I am one happy hunter lol.

I just tamed Skarr on Sisters of Elune and I'm posting to let people know that the 6 - 6.5 hour spawn cycle worked for me. He spawned at the south spawn point just before 3 pm and was tamed by an alli hunter before I could grab him. I came back at 10:20 and found him at the north spawn point. There was no one around and I was able to tame him by using tame beast - silencing shot (for the barrage) - deterrence - tame beast. Easy!

Got the wind buff, popped all my cd berserk? (troll), haste from herbalism and rapid shoot fast spell. Did not even make it to half the cast bar.

I have tamed this cat on both my main and my toon, here's a few things I've noticed:

1.) You don't need any buffs to tame, but if you want to, you just have to walk up to the wind gusts (not actually jump in them) to get the buff.

2.) At under 100k health, I took two separate Fieroblast Barrages and multiple Fireball attacks and still tamed Skarr (though admittedly, just barely). If you don't want to cut it close, armor up or use an attack like Silencing Shot when Skarr uses Fieroblast Barrage. The subsequent Fireball attacks he hits you with after while taming won't do enough damage to make the tame difficult/hard/etc.

3.) He doesn't seem to share the same spawn timer as Karkin, though he does share the same to spawn points. On my server (Antonidas) Karkin shows up roughly every three - four hours, while Skarr is only seen every couple of days. This could be wrong but from working with other hunters and players out in the area over the course of a couple of weeks. You see Karkin multiple times during the day (as well as the other rare beasts out there) but not Skarr.

The only real difficulties I had with this tame were finding him and dealing with jerks, from both my faction and opposing, killing him while I was trying to tame. But that goes for any of the rare tames I've gone after if someone was around. Anyway, good luck! He's an awesome looking cat!

by far the easiest catch. easier than the gemmed crab in molten core. went to tame skarr and he went to cast some kind of barrage. I silence shot hit and then tame pet. He hit me with one fireball(and it tickled) and that was it. Wanna talk about hard tame get kirix the spider(not sure if that is how you spell it) but he is the evil spider in molten core that is green and kills you with one spell right after he paralyzes you. But hope this helps people, just be careful of his barrage and he is yours.......If you can get him.......most jerks kill him on laughing skull so you can't tame him

So Ive noticed some patterns with Skarr - I'm still farming him at certain times of day to try to get him on my hunter.

On Zul'jin - I saw him once at 5 am and again around 3-4 PM

On Area 52 (after I server transferred) I saw him a little after 3 AM - again at 11/12 (AM/Noon) and again at 7 PM.

The patterns I've seen is Skarr - Skarr - Skarr - Karkin - Karkin (That was at noon today) and I didn't get to check at 7/8 because I was at work. so roughly the spawn timer is around 7-8 hours. First time someone killed Skarr and then flaunted his tamed Skarr. 2nd and 3rd someone else tamed it. Karkin first time I ever saw him I tamed him (after dying once) and Karkin the second time was today before I left for work - which I whispered another hunter in Molten Front and told him he was up because I already had him

I couldn't believe how easy this tame was. Way easier than all the other rare tameables I've tried.

Skarr was sitting on his rock on the right side of the floating island. I was already familiar with the +100% haste buff and the jumping from rock to rock was a breeze (practice makes perfect) but I also got a +90 haste food buff just in case. With no special gear whatsoever (829 haste) I hit the tame button and got my new pet. Simple as that, didn't even had to jump to a rock, he was just at tame range.

This kitten caused me quite some headache but in the end she is mine.

Here is a way to tame her:

* Where is she located? -- She resides in Molten Front, a sort of 'instance' which can be opened through a chain of quests in Mount Hyjall after the Cataclysm patch. As an Alliance player I have picked up the initial quest (Hero's Call: Mount Hyjal!) from the notice board near the auction house in Stormwind. The chain is quite lengthy, involves -- among other things -- helping out all 4 druid elders in Hyjall (Goldrinn, Aviana, Aessina, Tortolla), with about 5-10 quests each. At the end, you'll have a nice rep with the Guardians of Hyjall, you'll have unlocked high yield dailies both in Hyjall and Molten Front and you'll have earned worth of at least 2-3k DE mats if you are an enchanter. If you are done with the quest line, the instance gate will be operational at about Hyjall's coords 31,57, north-east from the Sanctuary of Mallorne. Clear proof for being done will be that the druids will actually SEND YOU THERE. Be patient. Took me about 2 days of very casual gaming to get there (on and off, with 2 kids).

* How to get to her if I have access to the place already? -- While approaching her southern spawning point (33,56), first you'll have to cross a flaming plateau with an elevation in the middle, starting from around 44,84 and proceeding towards north-west. Those flames HURT a LOT so jump between safe spots. You will occasionally take burn damage anyway -- don't panic, racing forth WILL kill you, so better sit down at a clearing, eat some and/or bandage, recover health, proceed. I followed the right edge of the plateau (needless to say, fell off more than once but its part of the game). Some would argue that flames are denser along the right rim but the left way leads through the patrol path of another elite rare pet, Kirix, who will rape you for sure if disturbed. She is a mean, lightning fast, highly poisonous spider and I got arachnophobia so it was clear from the start which way I would choose ;)

* Oh not AGAIN stepstones ... =( - If you survived the crossing, you should be around coords 33,56. Facing to the north, you see stepstones that lead to the next island, some of them cracking and eventually falling into the depths. Jump from stone to stone until you get across. Even cracked stones may support your weight for one or two additional secs so no need to precipitate precipitation by some silly capering unless you are very rich or you want to amuse spectators. BTW, one of Skarr's two main spawning spots is a stepstone down there to the left. Similarly to women, she will NOT become tamer if she realizes that fate tries to attach her to a complete looser. I would recommend leaving her alone for the time being, later I'll explain why. While crossing you may aggro her, but a few jumps and a well timed feign death will save your butt.

* 'I WIN' Button without guarantee (as usual) - After you have crossed the chasm, turn back, jump onto the last stone from which you have reached the island, and follow the path of stepstones leading you slightly upwards and to the right in a curve. The last stone is a special one; a dusty red wind blows from it towards the sky. Jump northwards from it - it will shoot you up high and you'll land on the slopes of the hill. And behold, the stone gave you a handy buff for 2 minutes which doubles (!) your haste and therefore halves the time needed for taming. This is the 'I WIN' button for taming Skarr. WALK or RUN to the spawn point if Skarr is available. NO JUMPS for your own safety.

* The jumpy paradox - Both time I saw Skarr spawn, it happened around the crossing (33,56). She was having her nap on one of the stones down there, a bit towards Kirix's patrol path. (Seems like this and the other spawn point - 37, 35 - are shared with Karkin, the crab, another tameable rare elite with rather similar characteristics to Skarr. Apart from the looks, mind you.). If you get the northern spawn spot, its piece of cake. HOWEVER if you get the southern spawn point, it sux big time (to use hunter terms). From the 'arrival' side of the stones, where the stone elementals and fiery birds are, I didn't have clear line of sight to Skarr due to the protruding edge of the island, and -- might have been a bug or I did something wrong -- whenever I had the buff, all my jumps were big leaps like the one which I have previously landed on the hillside with. This makes navigation between tiny stepstones ... challenging, to say the least. And if I tried to jump over to the other (initial) side, where the view would have been perfect, the buff was gone.

* Sooooo, ... -- I have acquired the buff from the topmost stepstone, jumped over to the hillside to the north, ran back to the stepstones, dismissed pet (LOL!), popped a stamina food and a haste elixir, then dropped (!) to one of the stones which had a view to Skarr's place. YEEEE, the buff was still there! Needless to say, the stone started to crumple almost immediately, but the good thing is that 1) you need a mere 2-3 secs to tame Skarr with the buff(s) 2) while she has to cast her special attack for 5 secs 3) and the stepstone takes about equal time to fall apart.

* "DON'T DARE TO INTERRUPT ME!" - Frankly, I don't remember if I have popped deterrence and/or silencing shot to interrupt her first casting, but it is not likely -- based on experiences from past attempts I am led to believe that any of her attacks interrupt taming AND stack up a haste buff on herself -- so you better successfully finish your very first taming BEFORE she can throw ANYTHING at you, because each of her casting times will be shorter. This approach works very well with other females, too (wife, mom, sister, etc.). If you wanna go by the books, you can still go like 'tame + deterrence / interrupt + tame', I guess.

* She was HOT -- Of course the stepstone crumbled beneath my feet. While I was plummeting towards the endless sea of lava, I pretty much enjoyed the increasing heat and the keen whistle of wind, plus giggled hysterically at the expected repair bill like a maniac, because who cared: I was finally the proud owner of Skarr, one of the the most treasured pets in the World of Warcraft.

I sux at hunting but I am enjoying it a lot. Make sure you won't team up with me in instances and we'll both be fine. ;)

For MM Hunter, start taming, hit ESC to self interrupt, cast Silencing Shot to interrupt Fierocast Barrage, and immediately start taming again. Haste won't matter. Once you start taming again, Skarr will get off 2, maybe 3, Fireball spells. His Fireball spell does not interrupt taming. So easy a caveman could do it.

There is a very simple strategy that i discovered to tame Skarr.
1.) Cast tame beast ( So he can cast Fieroclast Barrage )
2.) Instantly shoot him with Silencing Shot so it can of course silence him
3.) Immediately turn on your Deterrance and very quickly after casting Deterrance, cast Tame Beast.

I highly recommend you use this macro

/cast deterrance
/cast tame beast

With using the macro, this will be the strategy that will be best helpful.

1.) Cast tame beast
2.) As he begins to cast Fieroclastic Barrage, shoot him with Silencing Shot
3.) And finally, hit the macro right after shooting him with Silencing Shot.

Unfortunately, i don't know the exact spawn time of Skarr and Karkin.
I tamed karkin this morning around 8:00 am server time on Arathor.
Skarr and Karkin have the same exact spawn spots. I believe they share spawn times due to experience and research.

Ok u are all making this harder then it has to be. My gear only has 4% haste. I grabbed the haste buff from the winds dropped down cast tame beast and had him before he cast his spell once. Did not take any damage from him it was honestly the easiest taming of pets other then karklin or however u spell it the crab who shares the spawn with him. Trust me grab the haste buff from the winds then tame done.

Beware of hunters camping other pets in the area who already have Skarr. My NPC scan went off three or four times because of some other jerk of a hunter was camping the crab and had his Skarr out. Drove me nuts, damn cat was stealthed so I didn't see it was only a pet and I kept having to exit game, clear out the cache, get back in only for it to go off again and start the whole process over again. After that I just gave up for the time being and opted to wait for a later time when hopefully he was out of the area. Don't wanna jump to conclusions and say that he was doing it to screw with me (mind it was a NE hunter, I'm worgen, so it's not faction hostility) though I'm not gonna sit here and say, "There's no way he's doing it just to be a dumbass. Not to a fellow hunter!" I know people do it just to be dumbasses and get rid of you and I know people of your own faction will do it. As of this moment, I'm still waiting for the REAL Skarr to spawn so I might have my chance.

People, please be kind to your fellow hunters and dismiss those that you've already tamed while camping another so you're not just torturing someone else.

Tips for taming Skarr:

Hi all read the posts here and silencing shot is a must for this sought after pet. However you must hit tame for him to start pyroclasm it's a channeled spell that will one shot you. Very important note: watch his cast bar for pyroclasm and don't hit silencing shot until he has almost finished casting it! If you hit it too soon he will only silence for 3 seconds and get another one off before you can finish tame. Got him on 9 try. First time stupid alli pally came and killed him while I was waiting to rezz.

So I practiced on karkin later and figured out I was hitting silencing shot too fast!

Skarr has been on nazgrel molten front every day since I tamed him. Always right across from where kirix runs back and forth. Karkin spawns on the other side. Hope this helps! :)

Just tamed Skarr a few minutes ago, Marksmanship hunter with 109k health, with help of Eternal Lunar Pear (110k health), all I did was stand in front of Morthis Whisperwing until tame is available, begin taming and when he begins to use Fieroclast Barrage stop taming and silence it with, Silencing Shot and tame again, he'll continue to just use a fireball if your lucky. Tamed him in one go. <3

All I did was jump up the rocks, get the haste buff and pop Camoflauge so i didn't aggro anything else on my way over to the other floating rocks. walked onto the first floating rock. pop a haste potion ontop of the haste buff i already had just incase. cast deterrance.cast tame beast and Voila! I am now the proud owner of Skarr and no more camping pets for a while! =)

That was the easiest rare tame I've ever done. Did it on my first try without using any other abilities. He was on one of the floating rocks and I stood on the ledge before the first rock and hit tame, and he was mine.

Just tamed him on Earthen Ring today 6pm server time. This is far easier than people are making out. I used the exact same pots/food/macros that I used to tame King Krush and I took basically no damage and tamed in a couple of seconds.

Here is my method:

1. Make sure you have an Elixir of Lightning Speed, Prismatic Elixir and a potion of speed - this will increase your haste and resistance to his fire damage.

2. Eat some haste food I used Imperial Mantra Steak.

3. If you are a leatherworker use Drums of Forgotten Kings

4. Get the trinkets Battlemaster's Vivacity and Shard of Crystal Heart (anything to increase your haste)

5. Use BM spec and tame a core hound for Ancient Hysteria

6. Create this macro:

/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Ancient Hysteria
/script PetAbandon()
/use Shard of the Crystal Heart
/use Battlemaster's Vivacity
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Deterrence

6. Jump up the rock stairs - stand on the ledge you don't have to cross his stairs to tame him its close enough range.

7. Make sure you have all your buffs/food/trinket CD's ready to go.

8. Use the macro followed immediately by tame beast.

A lot of prep but you can use all these for King Krush as he is also immune to frost trap and fears.

i tried this twice and after beginning the real tame, he started to cast his Fieroclast again, yet when I didn't use deterrence, he only cast fireballs.

Is it possible that who ever was tamed last is based off who gets spawned?

Example:
Karkin is the current NPC spawned. Hunter tames Karkin. 6-7 hours later Skarr spawns up. Next hunter tames Skarr. 6-7 hours later Karkin spawns up.

This is basically what I observed. I've been hunting for Skarr. Karkin kept appearing and I don't want Karkin. But I tamed him anyhow because his spells are somewhat similar to Skarr (used him as practice). After 3 tries, I tamed him. 6-7 hours later I see a night elf hunter trying to tame Skarr.
We end up taking turns taming him, in the end the night elf got Skarr and 6-7 hours later I find Karkin in the EXACT spot Skarr was in.

What do y'all think?

Tamed him yesterday at 36.8 at approximately 10:30pm central on CC server. Very easy tame with no haste potions or anything, simply hit Tame, tagged him with silencing shot when he started casting, hit Tame again and he was mine. He continued to hit me with fireballs throughout the tame, but they were no big deal at all. Good luck!

Hey everyone,
I have yet to tame Skarr, as I just got into molten front today. But I wanted to add that in order to get to Skarr's spawn points it is much easier to try and navigate your way through the furnace (I died quite a few times doing this but eventually you can respawn at the end of it). Then jump off the edge once you get across, if you do it right you will respawn close to where Skarr is, and then just deal with the res sickness.
Sorry if this way seems to be a nice alternative to super mario jumping along the floating rocks for those who have to compensate for lag or laptops (like me).

Sooo...I don't know if anyone posted this idea... but this is how I tamed Skarr tonight.

I got that Convalescence of Winds buff and ran over to the area. I was in BM and pulled my corehound out and popped Ancient Hysteria...Then quickly switched to MM hit him with Silence Shot, then popped Deterrence, then hit Readiness, hit him again with Silence Shot then hit tame...I was down to a Tame time of around 3.5 seconds....This is what I used after my massive trial and error and spending over 200g in repairs.

Just tamed Skarr @ 21:10 on the Ysera server at his northernmost spawn point. Obtained the thermal vent buff and got into position. Popped ancient hysteria on my corehound then dismissed him, switched to my MM spec, cast lifeblood (herbalism haste buff and self heal), hit Skarr with a silence shot, cast deterrence and began the tame. With all that haste the tame channel lasted what seemed like 3, maybe 4 seconds and when it finished Skarr was mine. Easy peasy. Good luck everyone. He's awesome!

I have no idea if this affected my Tame of Skarr, so I am just going to say it...

Baby Spice. There, I said it.

So I am heading off Fireplume Peak when I see something on the steps at the back of the peak. I figure its Karkin, since that is his usual position, but it is in fact Skarr! I am an SV hunter so I can't use the easy MM method. I try and die a couple of times, I call for help, I call my guild, nothing doing, I am on my own.

So I'm rooting through my bags looking for something, anything, that will help. I have some Baby Spice left, so I check to see if it works on Skarr and it does! Maybe this will reduce the damage...

He shoots and I take full damage. Damn.

I pop Deterence, blow my cooldowns, and start my tame. He fire his nest shot, and he is going to beat me. Oh well, I guess it was worth a try...

He misses.

Now, I don't know if Skarr can miss with that shot of his, and I don't know if the Baby Spice I used was at all responsible, but I do know that he DID miss, and I DID tame him.

Either way, me and my lucky butt are taking Skarr for a walk this afternoon...

I actually tamed him on arygos server, 12:57pm. I didn't use any buffs, and have 114k health.

I used the tame, silence, deterrence, tamed again again method.

Npc hadn't popped as I haven't cleared cache in a long while. I'm working on dailies and see a kitty I've never seen on the rocks. Just sitting. Hover over, and it's him! Awesome. Then I died. Twice. So thank you everyone who commented, with your advice it was accomplished.

On Dentarg server, was able to tame Skarr this a.m. at about 7:30 server time. Found Skarr on the floating rocks in Molten Front. I read the post from kkev514, and tried his combo/macro. It took a couple of tries, but after i got the timing down, it worked well.

By far easiest way to tame him
!. On your way up to you you will gain a buff that increase your haste by 100% for 2 mins (this is crucial)
2.clear are around him as fast as you can should only be 1-2 mobs
3. stand directly in front of him pop any shot then start tame, he will start to cast pyroclast barrage wait till last second, hit deterrence and start tame back up.
4. Profit

With the 100% hast buff it will take only 5 seconds to tame (which just so happens to be the same length of deterrence) this is the easiest way that i have found by far and it took me all of 30 seconds to get from ridge to clear area then finish the tame. (not bragging just want to give you a time frame)

1. party with a mage he casts TW

2. I use the macro (you must have a potion to use)

/cast Rapid Fire
/use Potion of Speed
/Cast Tame beast

3. The mage use counterspell to interrupt the cast from skarr

4. I finish the tame = I win :D

edit: just tamed him... used the wind buff and hysteria (forgot about rapid fire lol)... took me like 1.9 secs on the tame... hit the first tame to pull and he started casting his 1shot kill spell... i waited for the 2 secs ur supposed to to interrupt and by the time it got to that point i already tamed him. was so surprised by how fast it was... seriously.... didnt even need to do any interrupting or anything... blizz should fix that (its not fun)

Got it very easily doing this:

- Be MM.
- Run past the flames (those of the quest Into the Fire) by carefully moving close to the edge, then get naked and jump down the ledge to die as close as fireplume ridge as possible.
- Rez on the other side.
- Get HP and start taming Karr, silence her and start taming again.

She only threw 3 fireballs at me cutting less than 30% of my HP. I didn't use any buff at all, and I was on my PvP gear - meaning low haste and 156k hp.

Taming him in 6 simple Steps:
1- Drink Elixir of Mighty Speed.
2- Eat Basilisk Liverdog.
3- Get the 100% Haste buff by jumping through the thermal vent atop two of the floating rocks.
4- Get back in position and cast Tame Beast on Skarr.
5- Immediately cancel casting by stepping backwards then cast Silencing Shot.
6- ..then immediately cast Tame Beast Again.
TheEnd.

An easy way to tame this guy (if you don't have silencing shot, and you don't want to waste the time to go respec), is to get a paladin to hand of sacrifice you. Also, if the paladin has a protection spec, he can divine guardian you. This helps you survive the fireballs, but you still have to deterrence the big cast. However, the paladin can also Hand of Protection you for the cast, and if the paladin is protection, he can use Avenger's shield to silence the fireballs before you start the taming process.

I dont know why people Keep saying to respect marksmen and use silencing shot so that you can tame this guy, It is amazingly easy. All you have to do is keep on The Thermel Buff that increases Haste by 100%, dont even jump on the rocks, you will get the tame off before he can even hit you once.

After trying several times I found the following to be the easiest.

First I switched from BM spec to MM.

1. Concussion shot(or anything to pull aggro)
2. Silencing Shot when he starts to cast Fieroclast Barrage( if you dont you will die)
3. Deterance (not really necessary but I had rez sickness)
4. Tame Beast

He will cast on you while you are taming but it will not interrupt the Tame.

My hunter on Chamber of Aspects tamed Skarr around 03:50 realm time at the top spot. Which tacts did I use? All of them, read advices, watched youtube vids and tried MM silence one few times but Skarr casts fireball first in most cases meaning you will be shot dead once he uses that deadly blast of his despite you using deterrence. Tried BM with corehound using ancient histeria and blood elf's Arcane torrent but failed as pet was stuck on a floating rock etc.

After frustrating trial and error this is how I tamed the beauty: go MM - hit Skarr - then he'll throw a fireball - silence - he'll use that deadly blast of his - Readiness to undo all cds - Silence - Deterrence - Tame - done!

Mind you I tried scatter shot etc previously which did nothing so the tact above I highly recommend. Anyhow it was my first time in Molten front and straight away i found and tamed, a stranger told me it spawned, Deth'tilac with help from alliance priest, straight away came across Kirix as I crossed the furnace through left narrow path and add on showed Skitterflame on the other side of the huge rock. Then few hours of camping to find Skarr. Good luck everyone!

Just tamed him on Ravenholdt. After several moments of trial & error, as BM spec I was determined to make it work. I luckily went and grabbed my core hound got back and Skarr was still there. I got the 2min haste buff from jumping; popped ancient hysteria & dismissed; started taming and just as he almost hit me with the blast I was done taming already! So, you do NOT have to be MM spec in order to tame easily. Happy Taming!

I'm going to add a small comment about the use of MM and Silencing Shot here.

You cannot cast Silencing Shot while using Tame Beast.

Or, what I really mean, is that firing Silencing Shot will not interrupt your Tame Beast and fire the shot; it will tell you that you can't use that ability while casting. That may be obvious, but I guess I never had reason to try to interrupt a Tame before.

So remember that if you go with the MM route and use Silencing Shot you have to move just slightly to interrupt your Tame Beast. Then you can cast it. I didn't realize that, hit SS, got the error message and got hit in the face by the Barrage. Fortunately I was able to hit FD in time and not die.

Can verify this method does work, I just tamed Skarr on Terrokkar at 3:19 pm the only thing i did differently was shot him with arcane shot, then followed the guide Ketchup offered and it worked didnt die and i had three other hunters around.

People are making it too hard. Too many people made it too complicated to tame skarr. here's how I tamed him in once without dying : you start with tame beast, and he will start firing that whatever interrupt your taming, you shot silent shot to interrupt his casting, and start taming right away. He will start firing fire balls after his first casting was interrupted, so if you start taming after the silent shot, he will fire 3+ times of fire ball which wont interrupt you taming, by the time he's casting the 3rd fire ball you are already done taming and he's yours :)

so make the steps clear: 1. tame beast till he casting then
2. right away silent shot before he finish casting.
3. tame right away after silent shot for he will only fire fire balls at you for several times.

I have been looking for Skarr for a few days now, and just logged out on the platform next to all the floating rocks so I could check both spawn points. I logged in and my NPC scan went off letting me know he was there (15 hours after I tamed Karkin). He's pretty easy, I was MM already, so I got next to the edge of the cliff and hit my tame. He started casting that fire barage spell, so I hit him with my silencing shot and hit tame again immediately. He hit me with three fireballs after that, but they didn't do that much damage and the tame finished and he was all mine.

Stormreaver server EU, he spawned 11:50 while I was walking around to check, tapped him, started the tame and he starts his nuke cast, "silencing shot".....ow crap, I forgot to switch spec *noob*. Score one for the kitty! Rezzed fast and re-did the process in MM this time. We are now best friends :p

I've been trying to get both Skarr and Karkin. Skarr was my main desire though. Getting to these guys is difficult for my hunter because I haven't opened the druids yet.

The first day I saw Skarr I tried to tame him as Beast Master. However even with every haste buff possible to get I could not get off the tame before he killed me. I died lots the first time just trying to get the haste buff because I would jump and end up missing the floating rocks due to the buff. I tried several times before giving up and hearthing to setup my second spec to get the silencing shot. I got back to Skarr in time to see someone else tame him. /sad

A couple of days later I finally saw him again and this time using the silencing shot towards the end of his big cast, but I didn't get the 2nd tame off fast enough. So Feign Death and try again. The second time I was successful and had a wonderful new Kitty.

Here's the spawns I've seen over the last couple of days.
5/3 @ 10:30pm - Skarr - Side by Kirix the spider - I tamed
5/4 @ 6:14am - Skarr - Side by Kirix the spider
5/4 @ 12:00am (midnight) - Karkin - Side by Kirix - I tamed
5/5 I didn't go to the front - I was busy finishing up the childrens week achievements
5/6 @ 12:00pm (noon) - Karkin - Far side
5/6 @ 6:40pm - Skarr - Side by Kirix.

This Skarr made me sad. I had switched from my Priest to my bank person to let other hunters know which rares were up in the Molten front and switched back in time to see a rogue kill Skarr. Rogues name is Tatertotz from the guild Gazatu Htol Brish. I really don't understand the logic in killing these hunter pets.

Ok so i found him at 36.8, 34.8. i stood on the ledgejust far enough to be able to tame him. hit him with slilencing shot, deterrence, readiness, then tame. got him without any haste buff.

I got Skarr earlier today around 2-ish on Ravencrest with the Convalescence of Winds buff from the reddish thermal vent going from the rocks to the island

with the buff i finished taming him before he could finish his "i'ma kill u" spell, which was lucky because I completely forgot to switch over to MM haha was completely expecting to die and then tame after I ressed but all was well

So get that buff, it makes it like the easiest tame in the world

I just tamed Skarr in the southern spawn point near Kirix at 11:15pm Garona server on Sunday night.

I have been on and off camping Skarr for a week. This is my last rare spawn. Did the Fire lands dailies and always check his spawn points. From all the comments i read it really seems it is all luck with this guy. But starting Thursday night I decided to camp this guy for real.

So when I was camping him I met several alliance and horde hunters. I camped him and did BGs so I really wasnt there all hours. This hunter Legion, was a night elf hunter. He camped him for long hours it seems. After chatting with him I decided to let him have Skarr was going to help him if he does get him. I saw him camp all Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I messaged him from my camp spot for Aeonaxx and ask if he had seen him. The answer was always no.

I did my dungeon runs with guildies and at around 11pm, we just finished a raid and I pop up in Molten Front. Skarr had already been cached so NPCScan didnt work. I just did a /tar Skarr, and lo and behold he was right in front of me. He spawns in a very low level of the rocks. So I didnt have to jump up at all. I was in my Survival hunter spec and I didnt have a way to silence him. I was hoping to get lucky to get the agility buff from my trinket so i started attacking him just like i did with Karkin. Didnt work, and i died. Then I did a /who again and found a guildie there. so I messaged him to help and he did. I tamed Skarr and finally complete my collection of all rare pets from Lich King upwards.

I just got him on my server. 3 days waiting for him and for 3 days the freaking crab, that stupid crab cames out every 4 hours and when it takes longer like 8 hours the cat cames out, I think thats the way it changes in my opinion.

Got him about 20-30 mins ago on Raven crest-US am a marksmen hunter .. i did the following

Tame Beast
Silencing Shot when he starts to cast Fieroclast Barrage( if you dont you will die).. dont remember if i popped Deterrence, or Readiness
Tame Beast

It took me a while ( like maybe 10+ tries) to get him but .. Hes now part of my crazy cat lady collection lol i have 6 cat lol..

he drove me nuts just sitting there looking cute ..lol

I was so excited when I saw this guy while doing daily quests on another character, I decided to check out some suggestions, but I didn't see anything about getting to him if you haven't "unlocked" this area through quests.

Here it is: you can get to him if you die running through the furnace. I died a few times and just corpse ran through the fire, basically. You eventually get near the top, after maybe 3 deaths, and can easily reach him.

I'm not that great at Frogger and jumping from rock-to-rock to get to the vent and the haste buff wasn't that easy for me. After falling forever and dying, I had to run back through the furnace again, so I decided to forego that option.

Instead, finally, I switched to my MM spec, used tame beast, then silencing shot, then deterrence and finally tame beast. My other cooldowns, like Ancient Hysteria were already down from my first failed training.

So for any hunters out there that haven't done this set of quests, you can get to him up there on those rocks, just corpse run through the furnace and you'll eventually get there. GL!

Just got Skarr on Whisperwind (US) @10:05. Saw him around 1:30 yesterday (but I had to sit and watch a clueless hunter kill him with serpent sting, so no tame for me then) so the 4-8 hour respawn looks be about right.

Luckily I found him on the northern rocks so I was able to the the convalescence of the winds buff. I messed up and used silencing shot on his fireball cast rather than saving for barrage. I still used my det/tame macro and had no issue taming (sitting at 14.49% haste without buff).

Not a hard tame at all and its a cool pet to have. Good luck to any wanting this pet, it is indeed a prize.

This tame was very difficult at first when i was trying all the tricks, but ended up being very easy. he spawned on a small island off of Fireplume Peak. same spot as the crab, Karkin. On my way up there i got convalesence of winds buff, used Ancient Hysteria from my core hound, dismissed the hound, and started the tame from the main island. 192% haste buff made this a simple tame. was mine well before skarr got off his first cast. oh and if anyone questions if this still works, today is 6/2/12 and my hunters name is gnomophobik on lightbringer. IT WORKS!

It would be appreciated if people would stop giving the misleading information that Rapid Fire affects Tame Speeds.

The very tooltip reads it only increases ranged attack speed, and Tame Beast is not a ranged attack. Ancient Hysteria on the other hand, does affect it.

To emphasise, there is no need to incorporate Rapid Fire into your tame Macros.

I would just like to ask, that people posting "Just tamed at 00:00Pm/Am on blah-blah" at least give us some indication of -

The amount of time lapsed between your spawn and the next spawn,

-Or-

The amount of time lapsed between you finding him already being tamed/ his corpse and his next spawn.

This is much more helpful in terms of us trying to gauge an actual average respawn rate.

Saying "Just spawned for me at etcetc". Great. How long was it since his last spawn?

And knowing your server really doesn't help.

For the greater good of Hunters, I have forgone my usual nine hour bouts of sleep to observe the spawn patterns of the infamous Skarr and Karkin, henceforth known as the Skarrkin pair.

For the sake of accurate respawn gauging, every spawn was relocated to a new home with a Hunter, or failing that, killed if no home could be found on Alliance or Horde.

As noted, Skarr seems to be a "Rare spawn of a rare spawn" as I only saw him twice, and many times I saw a hunter run up to look at Karkin, and then run off again without a care.

May your rare spawns remain un-ninja'd and un-looted.

I hit 85 on my hunter, ran to unlock the molten front portal in Hyjal, and I death hopped to where Skarr spawns. I did not have to unlock anything inside the Molten Front whatsoever after gaining entry.

As a fresh 85, his ferocious barrage kept 1-shotting me, so I had my husband come on his dk to interrupt it. Once that was taken care of, Skarr was mine :) I didn't have any pots, buffs, etc and I only had 97k health.

Just some small information here. I had used the following:

Elixir of Mighty Speed
Indestructible Potion
Midsummer Sausage (during Midsummer Fire Festival)
(yeah granted the levels for those items are low, they still work for a level 85)

Tame beast
Silencing Shot (Only use when he casts Fieroclast Barrage)
Tame Beast

I did "not" need to use Deterrence at all. You do need to watch his cast bar to see when he starts to cast Fieroclast Barrage, as soon as you see that hit silencing shot. This will cancel out his casting of Fieroclast Barrage, which then he just starts casting Fireball repeatedly.

If you happen to use a Indestructible Potion, you have about 15 seconds, which
gives you plenty of time, and you will take minimal damage. It gives you an increase
in armor of around 3500.

I did die once.. Because I shot silencing shot a little to soon, and all I did was cancel out his "Fireball" instead of Fieroclast Barrage. And that 1 shot me. lol.

So.. hit "Tame Beast" and once you see him start to cast Fieroclast Barrage, "move/jump" to cancel out tame beast, hit silencing shot (it will stop him from casting Fieroclast Barrage). Hit tame beast again (quickly) and this time he will just cast out Fireball repeatedly.

And with taking barely any damage from Fireball, you should be able to tame him with no problems.

It's really very simple, forget speed boosts, they won't help, and besides you don't need them. After reading about half the posts here I tried this...

I ran up to the edge of the drop off, shot Skarr, tapped Tame Beast, then Silence, then Deterance, and another Tame Beast. Thats all there is to it and Skarr will be yours. I don't even think she ever hit me, maybe she was asleep. I assume it is a she after watching her run beside me for a few hours and only seeing the rear view and noteing she does'nt have boys equipment. But neither do any other cats or beasts for that matter. My Hunters name is Hulda, if any of you boys need my help doing this easy task.

Managed to get him today. Pretty easy method I used for both him and Karkin; get the Convalescence of Wind by using the thermal from the rocks (and nom a Midsummer Sausage for the extra haste rating :D). Tame him to make him pop the Fieroclast, them move slightly to interrupt the tame. Then quickly Silencing Shot and tame in the next couple of seconds.

Luckily, no other hunters were around for a while, as NPCScan only flashed up after I got into LFR. >w<

i just tamed the crab, i'm survival and BM and i didn't want to respec just to tame this guys, a very easy way is to get the 100% haste bonus by jumping in the red wind and then easily tame it without needing to silence the best, just because your tame cast tame is faster then the cast time of the fireball that they cast.. ;)

Just got Skarr on the server Exodar (US) at 12:00pm after periodically checking for the last few days. I hadn't seen him or the crab in about 3 days.

Easy tame after reading the previous comments, just hit tame>silencing shot>tame and that was that.

Just got Skarr on server Ysera on my Hunter Summeriah @10:10ish. Very easy, considering I had some gear from Hour of Twilight dungeons. I just jumped over the islands and headed over to where Karkin spawned earlier that day (who I also tamed). Threw on Deterrence and tamed away, very easy.
A while back before I had better gear I tried taming... even had someone come along and help. Tried using haste potions, Deterrence, a Core Hound and jumping through the islands for the buff and he killed me every time. So if you're having all that much trouble I strongly suggest you wait till you get better gear and higher haste before attempting to tame this rare spawn. Happy hunting.

Just tamed him, first I used the silencing->deterence->tame tactic (failed miserably)

Tactic that did work.
1. Got the haste buff from the thermal vent.
2. Used camoflage and dropped to his rock by just walking of the cliff (he was on the spawn point nearest to the quest givers so I had line off sight issues from the central platform)
3. Hit tame and nothing else. I didnt lose my haste buff when I was on the same rock as Skarr

He didnt notice me until I hit tame, hardly did any damage to me at all.

People made taming Skarr much harder than it needed to be.

I just tamed him about 40 minutes ago by doing this...

Engage Skarr with your Tame Beast spell. He will then cast a spell at you called Fieroclast Barrage.
Use Silencing Shot, a spell in Marksmanship spec to interrupt Skarr's Fieroclast Barrage, then quickly hit Tame Beast again. You will take some damage from his fireballs, but you should only be hit by one of them during the cast time of your tame spell.
It's that simple.

He's a beautiful, shiny kitty and I'm very happy to have him. I've loved his design since I saw it in Northrend.

Edit: I stood at the edge, not on any floating rocks and was able to reach him just fine. I got no buffs from vents or anything.

I followed the instruction of Fordprefect and it was very easy - with the buff (Convalescence of Winds) and a Potion of Speed the cast time of tame beast only took 4 seconds (my own haste rating is about 1413). So Skarr had not a single chance to cast a full Fieroclast Barrage.
So for all the people who still want him - don't forget the 100% haste buff from the last platform.
And he is not phased (like every beast at the molten front) unlike Magria/Ankha or Ban'thalos!

I just want to say, if you are going for this pet, try to use common courtesy.

Sure, it's a rare pet with a moderate spawn timer, but if someone is trying to tame it, do not pull it off of them to tame it.

My brother has been camping this for three days now, and once it spawned, he started to tame it when another hunter ran up, pulled Skarr off of him, and somehow tamed him in about 5 seconds.

Just remember, even though it is a rare spawn, don't do something to anyone else that you wouldn't want them doing to you.

Had a pretty easy time with this, though didn't solo it - dual boxed it with great ease. So a tip to anyone trying to get him - bringing one extra person can make it absolute cake.

In any case, what I did in particular after spotting him with my paladin in the area, then bringing my hunter on my other account over:

1. Get the haste buff on the hunter. An important note is that you can't go back to the start landing mass, or you lose the buff. So you need to position yourself on the rocks and in range of tame beast, which can be trickyish with the extra jump height from the buff.
2. Engaged with the pally. Let Skarr cast Fireball, then started Tame Beast as soon as he started casting his long cast. Interrupted with Rebuke as last as possible into the cast. Managed to finish the tame before the next Fireball hit.

And thanks to that, I have a sexy new kitty on my hunter. :-)

Alright people you are never going to believe this...So im sitting right in front of this beautiful metal cat, figuring out my bar so i get it perfect. And all of a sudden 3 horde come and murder me. That isn't even the worst of it, after they kill me. They proceed to KILL Skarr, right in front of my corpse. People who do this, you should feel ashamed...another long wait for the moment to tame this beast. >.< I hope this never happens to anyone else. ):

Got Skarr a few hours ago on Runetotem...popped up on NPCScan about 9:20 & finally managed to find him about 9:30 at approx coords 36, 34. Couldn't get the timing down right but finally got it enough to tame him. I hit tame pet after the first fireball, then remembered to jump to shake it off so I could use Silencing Shot when he started casting Fieroclast Barrage. After the third death & second use of Feign Death, I managed to get him after my friend I was running dailies with...who is also a hunter...died trying to tame him as well. Hope this helps someone at least a little bit!

i tamed this great pet last week on uldum-us, after failed attempts to numerous to count. all the hunters that i saw with skarr that i talked to were very helpful (one in molten front even showed me the path to take on the rocks to get the haste buff), but the problem was i could not jump from rock to rock without falling. if this problem is hitting you too, especially if skarr is at the second spawn point up by fireplume, this will work. it ain't pretty, and you may disagree with me, but the result runs by my side as i go. FALLING IS YOUR FRIEND! instead of going around the edge by the furnace, go down through the ashen fields to the magma flats. go to the edge of the flats between the 2 spawn points and use eagle eye to verify whatever macro or addon has told you skarr is out. if he is at the spawn by kirix, go back and run the edge of the furnace, but if, as it was always the case for me, he is up by fireplume, go to your right, toward the structure on the hill. go around behind it (may take a bit but it can be done). once you come around it, run back toward magma flats. you will see skarr sitting on the rock, out of range. mount up on any flying mount, turn toward fireplume, run to the edge and jump. yes, you will fall and die, but if you miss a rock or mistime a jump, the same thing will happen. when you arrive in the graveyard, it will be the one ON fireplume peak. head toward your corpse to rez, you will find it near the edge of fireplume peak, not far from skarr. when you rez, there is an obsidian elemental in the area that will attack you, summon your pet and run back toward the graveyard. your pet will take aggro, and with mm spec you can dps the elemental fairly quick. once the elemental is gone, dismiss your pet, and move forward until you are in range for tame, then go just a couple more steps toward skarr. take a minute to verify your action bar is ready, use one that has nothing on it, put tame beast and silencing shot on it, that is all you will need. hit tame beast, and the instant he starts to cast pyroclast barrage, take one step back, hit silencing shot and then tame beast immediately, if you are decently geared, the fireballs he throws are nothing (my ilvl is 344). the tame completed for me with about 1/3 of my points left. i laughed as he sat on the rock for a second before appearing at my side, because to me it looked like he couldn't believe that he had just been tamed.

Just tamed this awesome pet, Sargeras (US) 1 pm. Was so easy with the macros. I didn't use the Corehound hero but I did have the haste buff from jumping over. Also went as Marksman for the silence and used Aspect of the Wild.

1. Tame Beast
2. Cancel Tame Beast and Silence Shot special attack.
3. Use Macro
#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/cast Deterrence
/use Potion of Speed
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Tame Beast

Be warned it is quite a wait if he just got tame or the crab. Killed Karkin about Midnight server time and I didn't see Skarr until 1pm server the next day. But it is possible someone tamed or killed him between 2am and 8am while I was sleeping. :P

I had been vigorously farming Skarr for 48hours and decided to give it up for a bit and take a nice break. I tele'd out and went to stormwind. Thirty minutes later I got a random whisper from another hunter that asked me if I wanted Skarr as he had just spawned. I was so excited but nervous at the same time as I was quite far from the molten front and anyone could swoop in any moment and nab him. Luckily I got there in time while this random hunter cheered me on and I easily and conflict free tamed Skarr. I tipped that wonderfully kind hunter 5k.

Just thought I would add another story to help sink in the message that kindness goes a long way. If you have the pet already or are any other class that happens to see it whisper any hunter you can as to not let this wonderful pet go to waste. It can prove rewarding for both of you!

OK, due to overwhelming sadness I felt when trying to tame this bad boy I called upon a friend in my guild and we tamed him within 5 seconds.

First up, grab a mage. Have them stand beside you - pop Timewarp, start taming and when Skarr begins casting Fieroclast Barrage towards the end get them to interrupt the cast. Tame complete. Easy as pie.

Where: Jubei'Thos
Time: 12pm
Hardness level: Gotta catch em all!

I tamed Him and didn't lose any health. First I used marksman spec. Then I hit him with concussive shot, then immediately hit him with silencing shot then tame. Never got hit by him. My haste was only at 9.09

Tamed this cat today the same way many people have said:

Cast tame
As soon as Skarr starts Fieroclast Barrage, cancel Tame
Shoot Silencing shot
Start tame again

This worked for me, so hopefully it works for many others (:

And on a side note, it seemed as if every other rare was out in Molten Front today. NPCscan kept going off.

Had trouble with taming Skarr yesterday at around 22:00 server time. Still haven't got him but tamed Karkin instead. Got up at 6:00am Server time to check if he was still there but he wasn't. Came back online at 3pm this afternoon to find nothing and have been doing BG's all afternoon. He just spawned at around 19:10 server time at the Northern spawn point. Checked the other also to see if Skarr had spawned but no such luck. Good luck people

Got Skarr this Morning at around 06:00 server time. I Found him 2 days ago but had trouble taming him. Found Karkin at the Northern spawn point yesterday at around 19:00 server time. then when I got up for work this morning I thought I'd have a look for him. Wandered down to the Southern point and there he was.
Easy enough when you know what your doing. I used a potion of speed, click tame then as he starts casting just step back and hit Siencing shot then quickly hit tame again. I am normally a BM hunter and I think this is where I went wrong with the first day of taming him. His fireballs don't do much damage and with the haste potion I think only one fireball hit.
Have him now, just finding it hard to name him.

So for all you Forgotton Realms fans (from the pen and paper and books myself) when I tamed this bad boy the first thing i thought was DRIZZT HAD AN ONYX cat so I'm gonna name you Guenhwyvar! Sadly the game prompts me that that name is RESERVED(SENSE WHEN CAN YOU RESERVE PET NAMES WTF?) *sigh just thought it was weird enough to mention.

tamed him tonight on duskwood realm, 11:55 PM. Didn't read all the comments so this tip might be redundant.

Tamed as BM spec, with basilisk liver food (haste buff) and elixir of mighty speed + the haste buff that is provided from the wind thingies nearby. I have pretty decent gear so some haste on there too.

Tamed him before he could get off his spell by about 1 second.

Wow! just tamed him 5:15 server time -Lightninghoof realm. I was and still am a bit suprised, all I did was simply jump onto the main platform (fireplume peak) and receive the haste buff "Covelence of Winds" Skarr was at (36.8, 34.8) I started taming with the buff on. The tame only lasted 2-3 seconds! Good Luck to all hunters trying to tame this beauty!

Walked into Molten Front Today
Between Hours of 11:00am Server Time To About 12PM Server Time, I found all 3 Spiders and Skarr.
(Skarr Was on a floating Rock) Tamable and reachable on Island.
Took me that hour to tame all 4 with dying and waiting 2 minutes to rez.

Wow, the 2nd time a fellow Hunter has "Gifted" me with a rare tame. (First was Loque'nahak, which I still have!) To my surprise, it was Skarr. He asked me if I knew the taming method for him and I admitted no, never really went on one ofthese "Challenge Tames" before. He said Ok, and when I "finally" got to Molten Front, (I was finishing up questing in Icecrown for Loremaster.) the other hunter greeted me and we proceeded to my new pet.

Well, after dying twice, (jumping those rocks can be hard if you don't know what you're doing) and having almost no armor (except for a gun which launched my silencing shot), I tamed Skarr.

Also, as a side note, Skitterflame and Kirix were up at the same time, but I didn't go after them. Heck, I was just as happy with Skarr.
