The Shield of Runes that Molgeim casts can be spellstolen by mages. This is a better tactic than simply dispelling it, as it allows the mage to absorb any splash damage from Brundir, and provides a decent buff when it dissipates (while removing its benefits on Molgeim).

Runemaster Molgeim's special ability when he is the last boss left alive in the encounter is called Rune of Summoning. In short, Molgeim summons small little air elementals which upon meleeing ANY enemy will AOE explode for 10 - 15k arcane damage. It is considered the easier of the two hard modes for the encounter and will drop the Archivum Data Disk to begin the Algalon chain.

Dealing with the adds:
- Runemaster will cast the 2 second, Rune of Summoning spell, after which the Lightning Elementals spawn one after another NOT all at once, takes about 4 seconds for all of them to spawn.
- Each of them aggro as a normal mob, so if unimpeded will head straight for he healers and other raid members gaining raid wide threat.
- They are snarable and rootable making elemental shaman rooting totem with the large effective radius very useful, other spells like frost nova are dangerous because if a member gets within melee range they will get meleed by the mob at which point they explode for 10k normal (15k hard) damage.
- The explosion radius is very sensitive, it is 15 yards normal, 30 yards heroic. If any players (or pets) are within melee range when they die, they will explode.
- If one of them is snared, i.e. roots / frost nova / what ever, they will melee and explode on anything hostile near them, including totems.
- The most effective way we found to deal with them was use a frost mage with improved blizzard to snare them immediately and use other aoe classes to kill them as soon as they spawn with our elemental shaman snaring and warlock using shadowfury to stop any that got free.
- Ten will spawn in normal and heroic mode.

The abilities listed in the intro is wrong. Runic Barrier is not what he uses, it should be Shield of Runes. Can someone update this?

He's a total joke compared to Steelbreaker... i'd even say he is easier than Brundir.

The Lightning Elementals have so little health that they barely manage to get away from their spawnpoint if you can slow/stun them.

We received 3 Runed Orbs from killing Runemaster last tonight. They showed up as a stack of 2 and 1 seperate one, which may explain why Wowhead isn't recording 3 as a possible amount to drop.

How can he have 113% drop chance of Runed Orb? Is that because he can drop multiple ones at the same time?

Killed him last night in 10-man after two days of attempts. We did not receive any Runed Orbs, but received one piece of normal loot and one piece off the hardmode loot table in addition to the Quest item.

The absolute, bar-none easiest way to handle this boss last is:

1) Have a warlock using their Felhunter with Devour Magic on auto-cast.
2) Have a mage spec'd into Improved Blizzard.
3) Having a shaman or hunter for Nature Resist is extremely useful.

The Rune of Summoning looks exactly like an exploding void zone from Sarth. Molgeim will cast Rune of Summoning near a random member, although more often than not it appeared no where remotely close to the person he "targets." At that point, the tank needs to move Molgeim and the entire raid as far away as possible - the little elementals will start spawning 2-3 seconds after he finishes the cast. As soon as the "void zone" appears, the Frost mage needs to be casting Blizzard on the area, as the elementals spawn quickly and move extremely fast even when snared. It goes without saying, but make sure the mage is A) not that close to the Rune of Summoning, and B) not in a direct line to the rest of the raid. Our mage had 3/3 in Frostbite, but it did not ever seem as though they were randomly rooted, although Frost Nova WILL root them.

The more people you can help with the AoE, the better. On our successful kill we had a hunter doing a volley and even a Feral druid dropping form for a Hurricane a few times. The hunter occasionally tossed down a Frost trap near the Rune of Summoning before the elementals spawned, which helps but is dangerous. Also, as the tank not holding threat on Molgeim, feel free to help AoE the adds or simply eat a few of them - whenever I saw a void zone pop up, I would lay a Consecration over it, stand on the opposite side of it from the raid, and taunt as many of the elementals as possible.

Important:

If you are looking to kill Algalon for the achievement and for the Starcaller title, you need to do I Choose You, Steelbreaker, essentially killing the toughest boss last. Or you can do the other hard mode (Molgeim).

Do not kill Brundir last. I repeat, anyone other than Brundir must be killed last. Otherwise you won't get Archivum Data Disc, and you won't be able to kill Algalon.

Save the trouble of coming back next week and do this the right way. Hope this helps.
