I really don't know if it's simply bad luck, but last time I tried to gather Turtle Meat for a quest in Hillsbrad, drop rate was rather 15-20%. This is actually not "life or death" :) since it's basically only a cooking recipe quest but I thought I might share this with everyone.

If you are frost mage be carefull because they resist almost all frost spells :(

The drop rate for Turtle Meat MAY have been tweaked. I killed about 6 of them, all but one dropped two peices. I will, at some point, do further testing on it.

As of 2.3.0 the Turtle Meat drops at 100%, sometimes - 2 from a single turtle. Definitely the best mobs to farm turtle meat from.

That's a perfect chance to rise ur cooking skill! Droprate of meat is pretty nice, recipe is given after quest and need 1 meat per meal, and it it still red for me on 205 cooking. (from 175 to 205 made only with it:) ) Those with skinning can also get some medium/heavy leather from them.

These mobs drop a lot of turtle meat and have a good change of dropping 2 meat in one go. If you havent reached 175 cooking yet these turtles also drop clamshells with meat inside that can be used to lvl cooking from 150-175. So this is a one stop all you can eat mob.

The quest is easily done by walking from Tarren Mill along the water and should be done before you even reach the first little bridge.

Along with turtle meat, they drop clams and raw fish, so perfect mobs for cooking grind.

Drop rate WAS fixed so now they drop 1-3 pieces of Turtle Meat. Also, VERY rarely they will drop a blue or green. (<-- I'm proof!)

I was in Hillsbrad Foothills and only 5 out of 12 dropped Turtle Meat, so it must have changed up again.

the drop rate my suck but they also drop thick-shelled clams. giving you tangy clam meat which is used in another recipe around the same lvl

After causing a Snapjaw genocide I can safely say that the droprate is 1 meat per 3 turtles (33%).

Exception is Cranky Benj, a rare giant turtle that patrolls along the river in Hillsbrad, who sure was cranky after getting his tail burned by moonfire but dropped 2 turtle meats!

Overall though the spawn rate seems to be much more in favor of the long beach. From Silverpine Forest mountain borderline along the coast of Hillsbrad all the way up till you see Ruins of Lordaeron.

My favorite turtle hunting grounds! Good lick with farming!

Ps. You might want to bring in your druid because half of these tail wagglers are underwater at Lordamere lake if you farm the beach that is.

They've really lowered the drop for turtle meat however. I had to kill five of these things before I finally got one. Afterwards, odds still seem to be about 33%. (I've been farming them across the river in the Hillsbard Foothills that leads to Western Plaguelands.)

Edit: On the Misty Shore my odds were much improved: 2/3 had it, instead of not.

If you're looking to get a turtle at like 26.. go to BFD (In Ashenvale, Zoram Strand) with a group, preferably with another hunter, and others. If you want a big red turtle, Go for Ghamoo-Ra if you're too low, or want an other turtle, take one of the other ones. Strategy for Taming: Ok. Here's how i tamed mine, you lay a freezing trap down, the other hunter (If you don't have one, oh well) lays one down right next to it, start taming, he/she hits both traps and.. Blam! You got a turtle.

I was kind of disappointed when I tamed this, because the 75 Frost Resistance it has doesn't stay after taming. Lame. Other than that, it's a solid tank, but I still prefer Kresh or Ghamoo-ra.

this was a fairly easy quest for my lvl 29 warrior. The drop rate was awsome...done in 20 minutes

Anyone running across this, the Snapjaw is an easy way to make money. Especially if you have the skinning profession. You'll get loads of Turtle Meat, Tangy Clam Meat, and a stack of Five Scales sales for 45 silver at the vendor. I'm Level 40, and when I'm hurting for gold... I tackle the Snapjaws. It has been my best farming spot so far.

Droprate seems to have been increased by a great amount. Just did this quest on my 32 hunter and I only had to kill 6 of them. Most of them dropped 2x Turtle Meat. When I did this on my Rogue and Warlock I gave up because it almost never dropped.
Indeed a very easy quest with lots of drops and xp :>

I have seen him, but to low to attack.

He isnt worth much so I would rather attack and kill him instead of tame, but he probably has really good stats.

I had one of these guys drop an epic ring once! (damned if I can remember what it was)
It just so happened that when it dropped I was in a group with some random guy I was helping, and he won it :(

I have done my best to provide Map Mouseovers for each and every beast, wherever possible!
Unfortunately some do not yet have maps, but these will automatically be added to this post when they're added to the NPC's page.

Reduces all damage your pet takes by 50%, but increases the time between your pet's attacks by 43%.
Lasts 12 sec.
Can be learned by: Turtle.

As a frost mage these guys are a pain. Not having access to beast knowledge from a hunter I imagine that the frost resistance on these mobs is quite high. As a 32 frost mage fighting level 32 and 31 turtles they resist my frost novas and bolts more often than not.

These can also be found all along the southeastern shore of Lake Lordaeron. While there, watch for the rare level 32 Cranky Benj. He has a blueish shell and red skin.

Yep, they actually DO have such a great magic resistance - like nothing I've seen anywhere else. But only to frost magic, it seems. I did the quest for their meat as a level 31 frost mage, and it was a right pain in the a***, and I even had the resistance reducing Elemental Precision in my talent tree. On average, they still resisted about 33% of all my spells - sometimes up to 50. When I did the same quest on my Hunter, his arrows had absolutely no problem with them.

However, then I switched into popping my Mana shield and then only using Fireball and Fire Blast. They seem to have no resistance towards fire magic at all.
