In the case of Shadowmourne, which was also upgraded (from Shadow's Edge), the gems and enchants were destroyed when upgrading. Makes sense since the upgrades are in reality replacing the original weapon with the new one (different item#).

Also, if you're able to actually go through the whole chain of quests and manage to get this legendary staff I highly doubt losing three red gems, worth maybe a couple of hundred gold at most, will matter. If you can't handle that little extra cost you really should be looking for another weapon.

Edit: The original post to which this was an answer seems to have been removed. Someone was asking if the gems were destroyed with the upgrades to the staff during the chain of quests which would then add "a big additional cost".

I would be power torrenting it regardless of how short (or long most likley) it would be in this stage so 3 red gem's which will possibly tank in price (unless new epic cuts/gems appear) will be a minor cost still compared to just attaining and advancing.

it is visibly better than any 372 MH/OH combo for casters (even considering the 40 int OH enchant).

One interesting thing to note, I got this yesterday and noticed that at various times - not sure if it was timed or just random - I would get an emote that only I could see saying "The essence of Tarecgosa is with you".

I can confirm that if you have this staff equipped or in your bags, you will occasionally get the emote "The essence of Tarecgosa is with you."

I did some research, and some people are saying that this means you got a special proc, where you double your spells for whatever length of time the proc may be. I got the message not so long ago, and happened to be in orgrimmar at the time. I high tailed it to a target dummy, and it was definantly duplicating my mind spikes.

The only quarrel I have with all stages of the Legendary, including the Legendary itself is that the Power Torrent effect is still visible even though the staff itself has a glow. But that's really nitpicking - awesome is awesome no matter how it glows.

"Ya, now heres your blue-ish glowing Legendary, why don't you go ahead and put a nice orange/purple glow on top of that?"

Edit: Now, thanks to cosmetic enchants, we can finally remove that god-awful glow!

Lovely staff, though I had the 384 staff off of Ragnaros once I obtained this. Strangely I equipped this one rather than that one for the haste for my Mage.

I love the buff it gives off (the title and the flower petals on the ground) I was sad when it faded :(

just wondering, i completed this phase of the chain the other night, and got an achievement and a title for having gotten the first branch, but now when i log in i dont see the title on my list and cant find the bloody achieve in my summary anywhere. any ideas or have i finally lost my mind and need to go outside?
