This shield, assuming it drops from regular mode in one of the Frozen Hall dungeons, will be a long awaited to upgrade for a lot of well geared tanks that have not been able to get an upgrade from an ilvl 200 shield. I'm sure looking forward to getting this one.

I have this shield and its one of the best non-raid shields around. The drop rate for it is indeed very low but I just got lucky and had it drop 1st time through. Definitely worth faming to get it.

I have to say, good luck getting this shield.

I've tanked this instance a total of 81 times now. On the 77th run it dropped.

Ninja'd by a DPS warrior who didn't even have a secondary spec. Claimed he was more entitled to it than the tank. The healer and the other 2 DPSers refued to actually continue with the instance because of him needing on it.

Naturally, he dropped group.

So, all I can say is, fellow tanks, be careful. The only way you will actually get a chance to have this shield is to never have warrior dps or paladin healers or dps in your group.

Maybe I'm crazy, but, if I'm in an instance as DPS, it feels wrong to take gear from the guy tanking it, who actually needs it. Same way if I'm tanking, and even though I might really want that DPS piece that dropped, I'm not there as DPS.

From what I've heard though, this is a dying viewpoint.

The irony is the guy spent a good deal of the instance complaining about being ninja'd from. Then he ninjas. Congrats on being part of the problem.

Edit: I find it funny people are downrating valid information. This is a much-ninja'd item with a very low drop rate. People trying to get it should take that into account when farming. Downrating for the sake of downrating is pointless.

Then again, maybe DPS warriors that want to ninja the shield downrate posts...

A beautiful piece, I'm a big fan of block rating, and im extremely short on it. Best shield for my setup outside of high end raids, and super easy to get (in theory)

I was farming quite a while for it and when it dropped as well as the pally and warr dps needed for it too while I was tanking. Ofcourse I didn't win it and some wannabe warr that was doing hybrid prot/dps won it..

I know in raids its always MS first but I don't know if everyone should reinforce that in HC's. I just didn't bother to make a big deal out of it.

Blizzard has plenty of models from lvl 60 epic gear that some people have never seen. And besides, shouldn't it at least look like what it says it is. Doesn't look like a door of any kind.

Elementium Reinforced Bulwark looks like a door. Tell me you wouldn't rock that.

Would've been a great place to slap in Bulwark of Azzinoth if nothing else. It's a shame that one of the coolest shield models ever was wasted on an encounter that hardly anyone ever got to see.

SO I run HoR like 40 times trying to get my shield and every time we down Marwyn and it doesnt drop the warrior or ret pally just leave group.Run 41 it drops and the fury warrior goes "Sweet" needs and wins then leaves....

IDK if this shield is so hard to get but i have done Halls of Reflection close to 20 times and ill i have seen drop is Splintered Icecrown Parapet and Eerie Runeblade Polisher time after time and i really need this shield cause i steal have Titansteel Shield Wall.

i have this shield, as the lowest piece of gear in my Main tanking set, and it buggs me.. been doing ToC10 for the Ardent Guard and Aegis of the Coliseum (i'd gladly take Orgrim's Deflector but its a bit more of an effort to get that one) but guess what? yeah, i dont even have to write it.. -.- well less QQ, more pew pew, will be doing HoR normal for my gf's paladin until it drops, period. who else is gonna tank when i wanna play my alts? =P

Despite the fact its "only" iLvl 219 it is very good compared to the alternatives, crafted, emblem or CoS shield.. AND if you're lucky, it might drop, just like that, and no-one will ninja it for you. But hey, what would this game be without a bit of RNG right? we all love farming for stuff dont we?

It is worth noting that the shield drops from NORMAL ONLY! It is removed from HC drop table for some reason.
So don't go running HCs for this shield.
And btw. The dropchance is set at 15% (approx)
Which means that if you run the instance 10 times then you shoul´d have roughly 80% chance of a drop.

How did I figure that out?
I started by knowing that the easiest way was to calculate the chance of it NOT dropping:
(1-%)^10 (basically this is translated into .85 x.85 x .85 x .85 x .85 x .85 x .85 x .85 x .85 x .85) = .1968....
Then we have the chance of it not dropping.
To calculate chance of a drop we do simple math:
(1-ans) x 100 (in this case (1 -.1968) x 100 = 80.3...)

And if you've been running an instance over and over again looking for that one drop you need and you want to know how unlucky you've been here is the full formula:
(1 - ((1-%)^r)) x 100
(% is the dropchance and "r" is number of runs)

17 runs, most runs have had me tanking(pally), another pally healing and a fury or arms dps warrior. Every tank class is going for this shield, and it never drops. To make things more annoying, every druid healer I've had has left after the first boss, causing the rest of the group to port out and avoid death.

Would be nice if the two bosses had a random order of which one started.

31 runs and no drop? That's rough. I QQ'd with the 18 runs (on normal of course) for it to finally drop for me.

I'm going to admit, in a random dungeon group, when I saw a warr dps and healing pally and asked if they were going to need it, they both said yes. I dropped group. I'm dual spec holy, too. I told them to queue as a tank if they are going to roll on that. It's hard enough for the extreme low drop rate with having dps or a healer rolling on it.

There really is no other reason tanks run this place besides the shield. Of course, there's a tank cloak, but you can get better with a badge cloak. There's just no "high level" badge shield besides the iLvL 200 one.

I just have a couple of thoughts to add to the argument. The loot system is, indeed, what it is. Therefore, if a player wishes to roll 'Need' on an item that they can use, that's their perogative. Hell, I had a hunter roll 'Need' on The Black Heart out of ToC Normal. Was the first time I had seen it drop after 19 attempts. Fortunately, I won that roll.

Having made the above statement, I think players who need on an item just to need it, when they really have no intention upon using it is ridiculous. This goes double for tank items, since tanks are always the most sought after spec for raid instances. I have no idea why Blizzard made this have such a ridiculous drop rate, but they're idiots for doing so. This is the ONLY tank shield with an item level > 200 that does not come out of a raid instance. Now, I don't know about other servers, but on Illidan Gearscore is basically a requirement, and if you don't have 5k+ GS, you're not going raiding unless you put the group together yourself (or unless you're in a cool guild that'll take you). I'm sitting at 4911 right now, and the only piece of gear I need out of any instance, normal or heroic, is this shield. If I were to roll in there for the nth time and lose it to a DPS warrior that has no intention of seriously tanking.... that would be unfortunate, to say the least.

I think of it this way: My server needs tanks. More tanks = faster raid fills = less downtime, not to mention more choices to choose from. I imagine most servers are like this; hence, I would never Need as an offspec.

ok I read through all the posts and you are all missing something...each run is separate and uniquely distinct from any other run...the easiest way I can explain it is that it is like a lottery ticket...each ticket had exactly the same odds of being a winner as any other it doesn't matter if you buy 1 ticket or 10...and No you can never improve the odds...that is why some people get it on their 1st try and some on their 72nd...and sadly some never will at all...just the way it works...the fundamental question you have to ask yourself is "How much work am I willing to put into trying to get it?".

I am a ret pally, with OS in prot.

I ran with a pally friend (tank) and since he had it already, he let me need on it. Other groupees were a druid heals, a hunter, and a warlock.

This was my 10th time running this, btw

I think the main reason why the age-old protocol of MS > OS is dying out fast is that you are now PUGing with people from other realms.
So you might never see the same people ever again, hence they can behave any way they like and get away with it.
If you could only group with people on the same server you could report them to their guild officers; or the ninja would earn themselves a reputation as a t**t once people start yelling their name in the middle of a city (immature? maybe, but you'll remember a name if they suddenly appear in your next pug). I know I make a note of a ninja in a pug group, and I don't forget names, pity I may never see that t**t again though.
So yes the new system is great for speeding up the grouping process, but it's also just created a world where you don't have to stick to any protocol's because the chances of you bumping into those four-strangers-you-just-p*ssed-off again is slim at best. And Blizzard doesn't advocate any policing on the issue, so unless you stick to grouping with your guild & server friends, you're at risk of being screwed over every time you PUG.

I hate ^&*!@#bag ninjas. I clear it every time, not leaving after Marwyn like some I've heard of, all to no avail. Just be prepared for it to happen.

I was soo happy till I saw that the healer needed it aswell...
I said why did you need it I need it for my main spec... He said he ran the instance as healer so he could get it? So thats how I lost my shield on the 15 run....

Was sick of seeing this go to some lame DPS (last shield was lost to a loud mouthed ~1k DPS DK), so when I ran this with my girlfriend I had her need on it (ele shaman) as well. I figure two chances are better then one. Well she won it, and then gave it to me. Maybe that was wrong, but I sure was sick as hell of seeing it and the ToC tanking trinket always going to a DPS.

So if you're farming this as a tank with a friend/significant other, be sure to have them need it as well since they can just trade it to ya.

I think this shield brings out the worst in people. Last night I tanked HoR trying for the shield and had a healer and warrior DPS that were on the same server together. Well from the start I ask if he is going to need it if it drops and of course he says yes, then they start giving me hell about how crappy I am doing. Once we down him and they see the shield didn't drop they leave group.....bunch of %^&*!@#s I swear.

I have to say its quite a low drop chance on the shield. I have run HoR Normal for Emblems and gear a fair few times being unsuccessful on this shield (For any of the tank gear in Frozen Halls for that matter) but it's not just the drop chance thats the problem..

For me it's assembling a random team to do the instance but for my guild leader it was another story:

- Start of the HoR run he enters as Tank and says he wants shield mentioned. All team acknowledge this.
- Team kills the bosses.
- Shield drops for him. He rolls Need.
- Death Knight (Full spec DPS) rolls Need and wins it. (DK's can use shields now? Since when!)
- Guild Leader and group confronts the DK as to why he Needed on the shield.
- DK's excuse for "Need" roll: It's for my Tank Off-Specc
/facepalm

This shield is gonna be hard to get because if like me your battlegroup has afew servers devoted to Ninjas (As much as I'd like to.. I can't say the server names), even if you say you NEED this shield you will more than likely get some <Censored> who will Need roll it and rub it in your face and then leave group. Or a DPS will Need saying that they are starting a Tank-Specc after this dungeon (Convenient much?).

My advice?
Farm this shield with either your Guild (So you can help them get some gear too) or go with your real life friends or most trusted players on your Friend list. Or be very careful doing the LFG System..

I've run HoR Regular 20 times and yet to see it drop. I'm starting to wonder if they've taken it out of the game or lowered the drop rate in a patch. There's no way this thing drops 15% of the time.

It feels like I've had this shield forever. I feel your sentiment when you say how hard it was to get. It took me 12 runs to get it, and 17 for the cape. I haven't had the ninjaing misfortune, as when I finally got this shield, the heals was a druid, the DPS were a DK, a rogue and a mage.

I want to get rid of this damn thing. As a tank in almost all 245/251/264 gear, it's an embarrassment to have this equipped.

So it just dropped for me today and a warrior Needed and won of course. Then left group right afterwards. On the positive side, it was my first ever normal HOR run with any of my characters, so mebbe I'll have some more good luck with drops!

I just got this shield after run number 16. Hadn't seen it drop once before, tanked the instance and stayed for the last boss every time.

Finally it drops and a shammy in the group goes "Gz :D". I say "omgz ty fianly i wait forver" and roll need. There's a warrior in the group from the same realm as the shammy, and he stalls with rolling. I start getting a sneaking suspicion and notice that the shammy and the warrior are in the same guild. "Oh crap he was congratulating the warrior, not me". After some 15 seconds the warrior suddenly says "gz" and rolls greed. I almost %^&* my pants in relief. The warrior then leaves. I'm somewhat baffled with this but ok, he probably came for the shield but was decent enough to let the tank have it.

I naturally continue with the instance and we queue for another dps. While running to the lone trash mob after the second boss the shammy starts with "go go gogo :D". I stop for a second before pulling and he says "go quick", "quick", "just go". I pull the mob when I'm ready. Shammy healer instantly /lols and leaves group. I bring the mob and his adds down with the help of the two remaining dps, a rogue and a mage.

Were these two guildmates trying to screw with us but didn't quite see it through? Or were they trying to act nice like normal people but not succeed at that either? Because if this is what they really intended to do... I don't know. Stoned and drunk?

On topic, the shield makes me feel warm and it made me break 5k gear score so maybe I can get to 10man Koralon pugs now.

Queue sucks at a Tank. What is normally instant can take 15 minutes. I queue as a tank/dps and about half the time I get in as a DPS rather than a tank, I assume there is a surplus of tanks queuing for this instance (because of shield and some other items) that jack the queue times up.

I'm only queuing for the shield. If doing tank/dps gets me in faster (and thus more attempts) yeah I'll do that and still roll when it drops.

I don't have a decent tank set, but I'm trying to build it up.

Xhistris, the shield available in Heroic Culling of Stratholme is definitely decent. If you can't get that, you can buy the Titansteel one. And 40 badges is a lot to spend on the Crygil's, but that's a decent one, too.

The Splintered Door is an upgrade, for sure. But it's not going to make any good tank that had been wielding a lesser shield noticeably better. Pay your dues, learn the spec. That's what's most important.

I've given up farming for this shield. I constantly run HoR as a paladin tank only to find that it won't drop, or it will drop and a dps will ninja it from me. I still have Crygil's Discarded Plate Panel so it would be a slightly better upgrade before I can get into ICC.

Brings me to an annoying little tale I always think about when I go there. I went to heal HoR, thinking to myself: "I'll check the tank's gear. If he has something better than the shield, I'll ask the group if I can need roll on it." I entered the instance, checked the tank's gear and he had Neverending Winter from ICC. I stated that since the tank had a better shield, I wanted to need roll if the shield dropped.

The other 4 members of the group were from the same guild and were either gearing people up or just happened to get HoR as the random. Rudely, one of the dps said to me "I need the shield too. So we're all going to need roll on it and I'll win." It did actually drop and we all need rolled on it. I lost it to the tank who promptly traded it with the dpser and they all dropped group.

It just goes to show that there are some spiteful people out there in WoW, no matter what server you play on or what you do, you will always come across a few ******bags

As far as the whole "DPS rolling on tank gear" goes; these days people have two specs, most people gear up both of them. People will queue with both specs because that's what duel spec + queuing as multiple roles allows you to do, hopefully to reduce the amount of time you spend queuing. Now, it sucks when something as rare as this gets ninja'd repeatedly by an ungrateful DPS, but that is the life of cross-realm pugging.

You can QQ about it as much as you like, but at the end of the day, if someone wants an item and they can click the shiny need button; they will. You just need to roll with the punches and re-queue.

I did finally get this shield today. I've run HoR maybe 6 or 7 times. A few of those groups failed because a pally healer or a couple of DPS would leave when the shield didn't drop. It sucks, but even if it didn't drop I'd at least finish the instance. When it did drop for me, the only person who could use it was a pally healer who thankfully already had it. I was very excited and it's nice to finally have a decent shield. Titanium Shield Wall is ftl.

TL;DR You can't stop people rolling on stuff if they can, so you might as well learn to live with it. If you see an item you want, just roll on it. Everyone else will. That said, if someone needs something for their MS and wants it and they're nice to me after I win it, I'll probably give it to them. If they're being precious about it though... forget it.

Got lucky and this dropped on my 3rd run ever. Ran with all but 1 guild member. Told all guild members to need if this dropped. Sure enough a fail dk rolled on the shield but lost to my healer (thank GOD). Healer traded the shield to me and life was good again. Not sure how to stop this, but for those of you that have ran this place over 10 times let alone 80....I feel for ya. Seems like blizz would fix this need roll problem. They do it for JC recipes and others..... Why not associate a tanking shield for tanks, and healing shield for healers?....seems simple enough. For those of you that don't have it....good luck getting it. What a crappy droprate.

Just started getting Tank gear for my Pally and decided to go for this. After seeing all the horror stories, I'd figure it would take me a good few runs to get. Dropped first time and I had no competition for the roll (though there was a DPS warr in the group). I like it when that happens.

Just thought I'd add the "voice of the optimist". I had run HoR norm as Tankadin about 20 times and no Splintered Door (just a few bruises) - I never dropped out of group though as... well... I'm nice... Honest!.

My last run I was joined by Pala Healer, Ret Pala, Fury Warrior, Arms Warrior... I cried a little inside as I thought... "Its gonna drop... Its gonna drop and everyone's gonna roll on it... Its gonna drop and everyone's gonna roll on it and I'll lose...". So before even starting I went for the sympathy vote, with a little charity thrown in. I said, "Hi peeps... I'm here to get the tank shield. I DO hope it drops. If it does (and I win) don't worry - I will finish off the run with you and will gladly run a few more if anyone else needs too"...

Now I don't really believe in Karma, but low and behold it DID drop and after a deep breath, clicking Need then closing my eyes (and obviously subsequently opening them again)... I saw a round of "Gz dude!", "Nice one", etc etc and not ONLY had no-one else rolled, they even just passed... I was so happy I nearly missed the next pull due to silly jumping behaviour and missing buttons...

I made another 3 runs with the same team (as it happens they weren't after the shield but various swords, cloaks and whatnot). The ret pala got the sword on the 3rd run and unfortunately that was it BUT... The moral of the story is:

1. State your claim to what you're there for before you start - It doesn't mean anything if there's a ninja about but atleast you set YOUR expectations.

2. State you WON'T just leave if it drops - gives people confidence that (if you're any good) you can make it to the end and THEY have a chance for the drop that THEY want.

3. Its actually the most intensive tanking I've ever had to do, as some peeps there are massively overgeared for HoR norm so pull MASSIVE dps and as we all know you need to pick up a couple of Ranged and stop the melee from beating down on your healer (and other squishies) - so its excellent practice and grabbing aggro under fairly intensive conditions.

4. You get a couple of Emblems of Triumph.

Ok... So the last two were a little silly and a stretch perhaps but still... Its a fun dungeon to do - challenging, but fun, so keep your chin up and be optimistic. Its a great shield and you'll really feel like you earned it if you tank it!

If your a tank and your working hard for this shield i give you props because i am too.

I've lost it 2 times, one from a fury warrior and one from a holy paladin, like always once they win it, they will leave.

How to get this shield more easier:

Have no other people in the group that wear plate, or shields. Fyi shamans can roll on shields too.

Or if you do have a plate wearer or anyone that can use shields in your group, explain to them that you should deserve the shield and not them, if they are generous enough to let you have it (I doubt this will happen though)

Each HoR group im in there is either a plate healer or plate dps, i first ask,"Do you need the shield?" they naturally say yes, or they say "Yeah that's why im here"

So im the tank, whats the point of running it when your going to lose the shield again to some one who needs it for their off-spec when you need it for your main-spec?

People are very rude these days.

1) Roll need for current spec, get's priority
2) Roll need for other spec, get's next priority
3) Roll greed/disenchant

I would like to add in my 2¢ worth of comments.

I think being only able to roll for your main spec is down right silly. Sometimes it's hard to get into the instance/raid you want to as your main spec. For this example you might have to do a few HoR runs as your DPS off spec. And we all know it takes 5 people to do the instance. All 5 people worked for it. So they should be able to roll.

In the instances I run, I let everyone know. You can need for main spec and off spec. But if you can't use it on the toon in the instance, greed only. And if people don't like it I tell them feel free to find another raid. And if they QQ about it mid-instance they get the boot. Sure that makes it harder to get the item you want cause you might get someone rolling for it off spec. But that's life. Get over it. If you are too worried about incorrectly calling rolling need for off spec ninja'ing (which it most certainly is not) and letting it get in the way of having fun playing WoW, then you need to get a new game to play. Playing WoW and doing instances should be fun.

And if I hear another person say rolling Need for off spec is ninja I will scream. Cause it is not ninja (providing you can actually use the item). I often run instances just for the off spec people. So they can feel free to need on gear and not get a thousand whisps of "why you ninja?". I like to help others out.

Mind you having the 3 tiers for rolling:
1. Main Spec
2. Off Spec
3. Greed/Disenchant
is not such a bad idea. You just determine what each person's main spec is at the start of the instance then you are ready to go. Less hassles, less annoying "he ninja'd my item" QQ. And more importantly more fun.

I've having bad luck getting this shield. I'm dual-spec'd as a pally tank/healer, and It seems every time I try to queue for this one, I'm always healing. When I try to queue as just a tank, no one's going, and when I go as a healer, everyone tells me, 'tank gets first pick, off-spec goes second'. However, my main spec IS tanking, I just can't get in as the tank!

It's frustrating, and it left me with a dilemma. If I rolled need on the shield, I was bound to piss off someone eventually; normally I'd be cool with letting a few random jerks on other servers think I'm a ninja, but as a tank I also sympathize with the gear grind and felt bad about depriving the -actual- tank from their hard-earned gear. On the other hand, I was not only battling the RNG for getting the shield to drop, I was also battling the RNG in hoping I get a druid or DK tank. So far it's been all pallies and warriors with Royal Crest of Lordaeron. ^_^;

For those in a similar bind, go with the basic rule - roll Need if you need. As long as you plan to actually use the piece, let four random strangers be pissed off for rolling off-spec or 'off-role'. If the tank is also there for the shield, s/he can roll Need on it too and have a fair shot at it. They may not see it the same way, but strictly speaking you are a tank, and you did your part in getting that far in the instance, so you deserve the same chance as the current tank for the tanking piece.

i'm keeping track since my first run because i've read the comments before hitting 80.
Having a Prot Warrior with Titansteel Shield Wall.
Counting 51 runs so far, running it 2-6 times per day for the past 2 weeks (approx) and still haven't seen it drop.

My drops so far

Verdict
At the moment i'm forced to leave every time Marwyn is killed and shield doesn't drop.
At the beginning (10-15 runs) i was staying in group for clear even if i didn't need anything from LK but it's getting really frustrating and unbelievable boring after 20 runs of the same dungeon.

I know that everyone goes "oh the noob", "retard" etc when i'm leaving the group but i really can't do anything, it's very time consuming and i'm sure the first time i'll see the shield drop i will get ninjaed and lose the roll due to the incapability of Blizzard to make spec priority loot system.

Sorry to all fellows that leaving behind every time.

All this talk of DPS ninjas is disheartening.

As an Enhancement Shaman, this is the best shield for PVP short of raid/rating gear.

If I manage to get a Dungeon Finder group to farm this, there's a 99% chance the tank is also looking for it.

Since I'm not a tanking spec, if I roll, for it I'll be called a ninja.

If the tank wins it, odds are he won't do HoR again.

So by these rules I have to either:

1. Farm until the shield drops and I'm in a group with a DK tank and no other shield users.
2. Just roll and let the rng decide, and let people call me a ninja on wowhead
3. Suck it up and use my ilvl 200 blue shield until I'm a PVP god or in a guild that has ICC on farm and none of the tanks need shields.

Given those options, does looking like a ninja seem all that bad?

I'm going to have to agree and disagree on this issue. This quote specifically indicates the issue I'm talking about.

This poster, as well as everyone else here i believe, has assumed that the DPS rolling on the shield is rolling on it for a tank set. Under this assumption I absolutely agree that the tank has priority and the DPS should 'roll as OS'. However, I am currently gearing a warrior for PvP in African-Turtle-Cleave (prot-warrior mm-hunter and holy-paladin). This setup requires that I, the warrior, have all DPS gear stacking ArP and wield a shield. Since there is no accessible PvP shield below 1800 this shield is BiS without raiding. In order to obtain the DPS gear I require I'm farming heroics and am gathering a decent PVE fury set while obtaining the DPS gear i need for PvP. In order for me to tank this dungeon and thus 'be able' to roll on this shield I would need to farm a whole set of tank gear by 'ninja-ing' pieces from other tanks.

I've put in equivalent work as the tank in that I've assembled almost all of the gear required for my MS (prot-PvP) and am doing the dungeon in that gear set (with a Fury-PvE spec solely because prot-dps in pve is not viable). The only reason I'm in the dungeon, along with the tank, is to farm this specific shield which is MS BiS for both of us without raiding.

In order to follow the logic of 'roll on tank gear only if you are tanking or the tank doesn't need the item' I would be required to farm two entire gear sets instead of just one. This is obviously ridiculous, imagine requiring all tanks to farm a DPS spec to run as DPS just to roll on one piece of gear which is BiS for tanks and DPS.

PS: if you're thinking 'why did you farm pve dps gear instead of pve tank gear and then get pvp dps gear, this would allow you to tank HoR and roll on the shield?'

The answer is because prot pvp doesnt require a lot of PvP gear, it instead requires a lot of PvE gear, specifically PvE DPS gear stacking ArP with a shield. here is a link to a high rated PvP prot warrior so you can see for yourselves.

He's using 400 resil, some classes are required to use 1414 resil, 2 piece t10 tank because of the OP set bonus, and the rest is PvE DPS gear.

I'd just like to say that as a tank, i agree that i do drop group when Marwyn doesn't drop the shield, just because the queue time for HoR is roughly 15-20min and the quicker i can get another group, the better.
Now about said drop rate. Everyone knows about probability statistics and all that good stuff. But what i did was figure out the amount of runs required where you have a 99.9% chance to see the shield drop AT LEAST ONCE. If by this amount of runs you do not see the shield, well my friend, you are just THAT unlucky.

Now to the math.
The drop rate for this shield to drop is roughly 1/7. Being that the sword is roughly double all other drops meaning 2/7.
So the chance for this shield not to drop is 6/7. roughly 85% or around there.

Now take 1 - (6/7)^n = .999 where n= the number of runs.
(6/7)^n=.001
nlog(6/7)=log(.001)
n=44.8=45

Therefore, to have a 99.9% chance to see the shield drop AT LEAST ONCE, you're required to run this instance 45 times.
However...

there's also another formula in WoW... where if you need something, it wont drop.

To summarize everything about this shield in one condensed post:

This shield has a ridiculously low drop rate.
This shield is hideous.
This shield will likely be ninja'd by every class capable of using shields, even potentially shaman.
This shield will not drop until you go insane farming / don't need it / get on an alt who can't use it.
This shield will be replaced in the first five minutes of Cataclysm, likely making everyone who wasted hours of their life farming it facedesk so hard their head will likely go straight through it.

Happy farming, because I know it was an experience that I'll never forget.

i got this on the very first time i tried, i was so amazed after reading all the comments i thought it might take me 80 times to do it. but if you have serious luck then maybe you can get it first try, or Marwyn just thought i was cute ^_^
