Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater
Use this item in Stormwind, Ironforge, The Exodar, and Darnassus..
It is possible to enter each of these cities without dying or aggroing any guards~~, save The Exodar which has guards posted at each of its entrances and where you cannot fly.~~

Edit: It is apparently possible to do The Exodar using the Side entrance. Thanks addy2k!

It looks like we get this achievement by using Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater, which will be the gift for 2011. So we won't be able to complete this achievement until Christmas Day.

Route for the Horde, assuming you have your hearth in Orgrimmar:

Take the Cataclysm portal from Orgrimmar to Mt Hyjal. Take a flight path from Mt Hyjal to Moonglade. Fly from Moonglade, up over Felwood, down to Darkshore, then across to Teldrassil. I ran into the flight ceiling when flying across the sea, so keep an eye out for that.
Fly up and over the tree to Darnassus and do your singing. Landing on top of the Moon Temple worked fine for me, no guards in the area, and no players.
If you're feeling lucky you might try the portal from Rut'theran village to Darnassus, but I'm guessing you'll be killed by the guards. Probably several times.

Fly back down to Rut'theran, and wait for the boat that comes to the western dock. You have to land on the boat, and wait for it to go to to Azuremyst island, you can't fly there. Wait up in the air for the boat to leave the dock, then if you land on top of the foreward deckhouse, you shouldn't aggro any of the boat guards. Switch to a ground mount. If you have a water-walking potion or something similar this is a good time to use it. Jump off the boat before it reaches the dock, and go ashore.

Stay clear of the front entrance, as you ride around to the side entrance, there are several places where you are inside The Exodar zone. Right next to the side entrance works. After singing, hearth back to Orgrimmar.

Take a zepplin from Orgrimmar to Grom'gol base camp. Fly from there to Stormwind and sing. If you land on one of the outside towers of the front wall, you should run into any guards, and if you do find guards or other players, you can jump off the wall and run a bit away from the city.

From Stormwind fly north-east to Ironforge. When you're at Ironforge land all the way on top of the main gate structure, you're inside the city and you can sing there.

You may want to wait a day or two for this achievement. There are sure to be tons of griefers out trying to prevent people from getting it done on the first day.

If there is a problem with the route, feel free to offer a suggestion in lieu of downrating. If you just don't like being called a griefer, then don't be one.

I did all this this morning, took me about twenty minutes.

Ok 2 thins bug me about this achv,
1. who goes caroling On xmas day? No one thats who, we all to busy enjoy goodies we got.
(as above post mention, its a xmas day thing)

2. were do we get this so called Item Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater. (In a gift, vendor, crafted)?

Kinda silly to be singing carols on xmas day, i always assumed it was some people took place in on xmas even? meaning B4 christma.. /shrugs

Anyone thats might have alil more insight to the achv plz post...

I just completed this achievement (2011 version), here is my take on it (Horde on a PvE server):

Firstly the Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater is obtained from opening presents under the xmas tree in your factions capital city.
NB: You will not be able to open the presents until 4:59 (server time) on the 25th of December. I logged in earlier and had to wait :)

You need to visit 4 opposing faction cities, wear the Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater and use it to sing whilst in the city limits.

You can do the cities in any order and there are various approaches to getting in to the cities, but here is the way I did it:

Important notes:
You have to be within the city limits of each city for the singing to count towards the achievement. You will get flagged PvP when you enter the opposing faction’s city.

Exodar
From Orgrimmar take the portal to Nordrissil in Mount Hyjal. Fly west to the Ruins of Auberdine in Darkshore. Fly North-West from the coast (aiming for Ruttheran Village).

NB: You will get fatigue as you cross the ocean, but with maximum flying mount speed it only reaches about a quarter of the bar. I think it should be possible with all flying mount speeds, but I haven’t tested it.

You need to get on the boat which docks on the west side of the village.

NB: You will not be flagged PvP even when you land on the boat. I landed on the back of the boat to the left of the captain, but some others recommend sitting on the very front.

The boat will take you to Azuremyst Isle. On arrival you will still not be flagged PvP. Jump off the left (port) side of the boat before it reaches to the docks to avoid the guards and swim to the shore. Head for the entrance to Exodar which is nearest the docks (Not the main entrance). Hug the mountain to the North and you should see it soon after getting out of the water. Enter the tunnel cautiously, as there can sometimes be a patrol of guards here. You will be flagged PvP as you go in to the tunnel! You only need to take a few steps in, then you can sing and hearth/portal out.

This is probably the hardest of all the cities (risk of being griefed) as you don’t have many choices about where to stand and how you approach the city. On the plus side, most people can’t be bothered to go here and grief you because it’s out of the way.

Darnassus
You can use the same route you did for Exodar (see above). On reaching Ruttheran Village fly up (way up) and on to the top of Teldrassil. Head straight for Darnassus (West end of the tree).
You have many places to chose from to land. I landed on the hills to the North east of the city.

NB: You will be flagged PvP when you enter the city limits, but you are unlikely to be griefed unless you chose to land in the centre of town.

Stormwind
I took the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Grom’gol base camp in Stranglethorn. Then fly North and again you have a big choice about where to set down to do your singing. I landed to the South-West of the Mage Quarter actually outside the city walls. This still counted as in the city.

NB: Some alternative routes you could take are to take the portal from a mage trainer to the Blasted Lands and fly North-West or complete the Ironforge part first and fly south to Stormwind. There are many other routes also.

Ironforge
I completed Stormwind first, so approached Ironforge from the south. One of the many alternative routes is to take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Undercity and then fly south approaching Ironforge from the north. On reaching Ironforge, I looked for a way to stand on the mountain above but didn’t immediately find anywhere that flagged me as in the city.

NB: It has been said you can stand on the city gates, but I thought this a too obvious place to wait if you want to grief.

I flew in to the city gates, being sure to stay as high up the walls as possible so I don’t agro the ground based guards. Directly in front of you you will see a large statue and above it a small hole.

NB: This hole is where the Alliance flight path enters the city.

I flew to the hole and landed there. Did the achievement, then mounted and flew out of the city again.

A simple way that worked for me:

From Orgrimmar I flew to Darkshore. From the coast I aimed for Teldrassil, toward Rut'theran Village (the small island at the southern edge). There are no guards around Darnassus when you fly, so land on a random roof and sing the song. From here I took a boat to Exodar, it's the one on the right side of Rut'theran, when you fly from Darnassus. Side entrance to Exodar is right next to the boat's landing and you don't have to go deep inside, no guards again.

Then I hearthstoned to OG and took a zeppelin to Undercity. From there I flew straight south to Ironforge and Stormwind with a stop in Hillsbrad Foothills for the saving Metzen daily. To get the achievement, you have to be in the City of Ironforge zone. Gates of Ironforge don't count. You get zoned to the City when you land above the main gate of Ironforge on the small paved 'square'. Getting the achi in Stormwind is simple again as you can fly freely around.

Side notes:
My character is a paladin so with a crusader aura and 310% flying mount I didn't mind a couple of yards of needless flying. You may want to take a portal to Mount Hyjal from OG on your way to Darnassus. As well if you don't want to do the daily quest to save Metzen the reindeer, it seems faster to take a zeppelin to Grom'gol and fly north to Stormwind and Ironforge.
I got fatigue on my way to Teldrassil, which was very short (10-15 sec.) and again when flying across the bay between Hillsbrad and Wetlands/Dun Morogh. The latter one was fairy long (40-45 sec.) so with a slower flying mount consider to fly around the shore rather than straight through.
Also, it is impossible to fly directly from Darkshore to Azuremyst Isle. Even thought it seems close on the map, you have to go through the loading screen which I believe only pops up when you take the boat.

Edit: Of course, it must be possible to take the Alliance ship to Stormwind directly from the Azuremyst Isle/Teldrassil area or vice versa. No hearthstoning, no zeppelins. Why hadn't I thought of this before. Thanks, thegreeneyes7!

If you have a speed increase, you can get to the entrance to Exodar and back to the boat before it leaves.

Another tip on Stormwind, you can take the boat from Darnassus to the Harbor and sing there without getting out of the boat!

Okay, to begin this you'll need the sweater which won't be available until you open a present under the tree in Ogrimmar and get it.

Secondly, after you equip the sweater all you have to do to sing is right click it.

1. Fly to the nearest flight point to Teldrassil. (Moonglade or Ferralas, you can also port to Hyjal and cut down on the flight time. If you have the top mount speed, taking a direct route from either Ogrimmar or Hyjal works too.)

2. Fly straight to Teldrassil and don't wprry about the fatigue, you'll rutherean village soon enough.

3. In Rutherean village, I recommend flying straight in to the portal tree then make sure to get straight back into the air once you are in Darnassus. I landed on the top of a building there and sang.

4. Go back out the portal and go to the pier on the far right when you exit the portal. That is the boat to the exodar. You can land on the boat rigging or the front and not aggro the boat guards. I recommend mounting a ground mount at this point.

5. Shamans and Death Knights can jump the boat and head straight for the Exodar side entrance, the rest just ride fast and head for it. Sing once you enter and then mount up and head back to the boat.

6. Once you get back to Rutheran, Fly over to the next Pier for the boat to Stormwind. Ride boat to Stormwind.

7. I flew into Stormwind careful not to aggro flying patrols and landed on top of a building and sang. Moutn up again and for fun, I dove into the underground tram tunnel and made it through before the guards could get to me (level 85 warlock).

8. Ride tram to Ironforge and as soon as you exit tram mount a flying mount and fly straight to the tubes over the throne room. Sing and you are done!

Ok I have a question. I assume that your toons have to be min. lvl 40 to get the sweater for this achivement (since none of my toons under 40 got it). If this is the case and you can't get all your toons under 40 up to it I assume that since the sweater is a FoS then those toons are S.O.L on compleating this achivement?

Wowhead will show this data eventually when enough people running the client upload their data, but for now...

Starting on December 25 will give you A Winter Veil Gift which rewards Winter Veil Gift which contains Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater which awards Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater and is necessary for A-Caroling We Will Go (Alliance) or A-Caroling We Will Go (Horde) (this achievement).

My route went like this (on a PvE server):

Head south from UC and use the square platform above the IF gate (this did not pull agro.)

From there go to the northern most place you get the SW zone. This should be well outside the city proper. (Again, no agro.)

Fly to the harbor and take the southern most boat to Darnassus. I hovered until the boat showed up and then landed as it started out again. I had been flagged as PvP so you might want to wait til the flag drops if there are annoying pests on the boat.

Fly off the boat before it docks and head to the eastern most edge of Darnassus. As others have said there are several forrest regions to land in without aggro. Head back to the docks and go to the righthand one to hover/land on the boat to Exodar.

You can't fly in the Exodar region, so jump off the front of the boat before it finishes docking and swim to the beach close to the side entrance. Go into the side entrance just enough to get zoned in (assuming the pats are not in view.)

Hearth/portal and you're home free.

The only item of special note is that I did this as a Druid so flight form made it especially easy.

I just found out the hard way that the sweater doesn't work at zero durability. I went to Exodar first for that part of the achievement plus the BB King achievement. After a few corpse runs, my sweater was trashed (probably an improvement). I next went to Darnassus, and lo and behold... nothing.

Sweater = 2 cp. Cost to repair sweater = 1 cp. Aggravation for round trip to Thunderbluff = priceless.

To clear something up that confused me for sometime. When you get to the city, you click on the gaudy sweater to sing, it is not a "/" command as I first thought. It doesn't actually say that anywhere so I thought I would comment in case anyone else also ran in to the same problem.

Best way to do this achievement in Exodar is reaching the city from the south - coords are pretty fine.

And if you use the boat from Teldrassil to Stromwind - you can sing already on the boat in the harbor and fly directly to Ironforge - no need to have a real stop in Stormwind.

Also no need to fly into Ironforge - just land on the top of the main gate.

I just completed this achieve and IT IS confirmed that, if you do this during the off peak hours of your server. You should not agro or have to pvp at all! Very Easy Achievement!

Many thanks to the poster who stated that the sweater needs to be clicked on to make it sing. I had no clue why I couldn't get the achievement and nowhere is this suggested. Again THANK YOU!

For a Warrior (on a PvE server) my route went

From Orgrimmar take Hyjal portal
Fly to Dark Shore near Lor'danel
You can take boat to Teldrassil (You can also fly from here using mount. I haven't tried using a slower mount, used 310% speed)
Fly up to get to Darnassus (to minimize deaths)
Find a spot saying you are at alliance territory (the gate from the forest will do) then use sweater (click to sing)

Fly down and take boat for Azuremyst Isle.
Upon landing, you can find the entrance of Exodar in the west side. Enter a bit then use sweater (click to sing)
Use Hearthstone

Take portal to Twilight Highlands
Fly to Iron Forge and use sweater (click to sing) on one of the gate pillars.

Lastly fly to Stormwind and sing in Stormwind outskirts near portals.

All done with no aggro and deaths ;)

Die near the ship and then on board and jump off the ship beware the guard and human player (as attack by the guard PvP on whatever in PvE or any other server)
