To get the title you will need to farm rep only from the new raid Firelands.

The Firelands Dailies give Guardians of Hyjal rep.

Avengers rep is only available by killing NPCs in the Firelands raid instance.

Also, similar to the way rep worked in Molten Core, most trash will only give you rep up to 5999/6000 (1 point away from Honored)

After that the only creatures that give rep are Molten Lords, Ancient Core Hounds and Bosses.

Edit: the more difficult trash beyond Shannox's/Beth's areas also gives rep past honored at the same amount as the hounds and giants.

5999/6000 1 point from honoured grindable through trash farming.
up to 11999/12000 1 point from revered grindable from selected harder trash, notably the Molten Giants and trash just outside of and in Baleroc's room.
revered to exaulted sadly only doable with boss kills.

Does getting rep to exalted grant anything but the title? Do people just do it for the trash drops in firelands?

Just as an added note: you can only actually reach exalted via killing a heroic boss. I just hit exalted tonight after killing Shannox on heroic. We then killed Rhyo and Beth on normal, which brought our mage to 20999/21000. The Beth kill SHOULD have put him over, but it didn't. :-/ Additionally, this rep can only be maxed out via heroic kills (up to 999 that is), as after I killed Shannox, I was at 305/999, and did not gain any additional rep for the two normal mode kills afterwards. This may be different when killing Domo and/or Rag, but as of the time of this comment, killing the first four bosses on NORMAL will not kick you over to exalted nor give you rep beyond exalted.

Mookosh has posted very solid information about gaining Avengers of Hyjal reputation. What I will do in this post is clarify in so far as possible areas he did not cover.

Reputation gains from trash MOBs appears to be subject to bonuses from guild achievements. For example, Ancient Core Hounds and Molten Lords give 50 points of reputation but if the guild bonus applies to you they will give 10% more reputation of 55 points each. Reputation gained from killing bosses in Firelands is not, however, subject to such bonuses unless the figures posted elsewhere here on Wowhead already include those bonuses.

According to the page devoted to each boss here at Wowhead, the first 4 bosses of the Firelands, Shannox, Beth'tilac, Lord Rhyolith and Alysrazor each give 275 reputation in normal mode, either 10- or 25-man, and double that, 550, in Heroic regardless of raid size. Thus clearing those 4 bosses gives 1100 Avengers reputation in normal mode and 2200 in Heroic.

The next 2 bosses, Baleroc and Majordomo Staghelm, each give 440 reputation in normal mode for both raid sizes. There is no information posted for Heroic mode. I suspect that amount may also increase for Heroic but I don't yet know whether it doubles also. Even so, killing both Baleroc and Staghelm in normal mode would add 880 to your reputation for a 6-boss total of 1980.

Wowhead also does not show the reputation gained from a Ragnaros kill in either normal or Heroic mode. If Blizzard has stuck to the reputation progression they've established I suspect that he will give 880 reputation in normal mode for a full clear reputation gain of 2860 though I am just speculating on that figure. However, if I've speculated correctly, one in normal mode would have to clear the equivalent of 7/7 7 times and the first 4 bosses in an eighth visit to reach 20999. After attaining that level of reputation with the Avengers of Hyjal one would have to kill a boss in Heroic mode, as Hanachan has pointed out, to reach exalted with the faction.

Anyway, I am sure that others will soon correct me where I've gone wrong.

Starting with 4.3 Guild Standards are again usable in Firelands. Duration has been increased to 15 minutes, the effect has a 100 yard radius, and now affects dead players.

That means you'll be able to farm reputation faster once 4.3 goes live.
