This. Though instead of a single quest, I think it's rather a specific area (or several areas where he randomly appears) which is then carpetbombed by Deathwing. Probably with NPCs and interface warnings urging you to "get out of the fire".

I just got this achievement by standing in Burning Steppes. Deathwing was shouting something and set the whole map in fire. BOOM everyone died and i got the achi.

During the Live Raid at Blizzcon 2010, Paragon was attending and at the end Deathwing appeared and killed off the whole raid, and they got this achievement!

AThere is very little warning once he decides to strafe a zone. If you're not in the zone already, you have virtually no chance of sacrificing yourself to his flame.

If you're in the zone, you're almost definitely screwed.

A: This will be specific to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, though he will choose his locations quite indiscriminately.

The achievement is a Feat of Strength since it won't be available forever. Given the rate at which this occurs and the random way in which he chooses to attack, virtually everyone who earns the Feat of Strength will get it by accident -- it's a wrong place at the wrong time sort of thing. ;)

Q: If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, do you have to be a certain level to get the achive?

I can smell the QQ already from players who can't have fun. Like, low levels thinking they should be safe from everything, and will cry during the event if they die - then later will cry as higher levels when they can no longer do the event.

This is the limited time achievement Blizzard has officially given info about that involves dying to Deathwings flame breath when he randomly spawns around the world zones of Azeroth.

If a friend warns me Deathwing is about to appear in a zone, can I make it there?
A quick note to players (from the WoW developers) who think they can get to a zone before the scorching happens if a friend warns them.
There is very little warning once he decides to strafe a zone. If you're not in the zone already, you have virtually no chance of sacrificing yourself to his flame.

What zones will be destroyed by Deathwing?
There is no specific answer from Blizzard currently, but all indications point to Capital City zones and PVP Zones (Wintergrasp & Tol Barad) being the only safe places due to gameplay reasons.
Because his flames literally kill any creature, critter, NPC, or player in Deathwing's path, there are a few places we're not having him go for gameplay reasons. The large majority of the zones on the two continents are fair game though. :)

Actually when they announced that Feat of Strength, they said it involves a World Event, not a quest chain.

Deathwing will randomly (possibly once a day) pick a zone in Azeroth, and incinerate it COMPLETELY. If you happen to be in that zone and get drafted by the fire and die, then you get the Feat.

Check out the event's tryout in a beta server here. In this video you will witness Deathwing setting Wetlands' countless trees ablaze!

(You can tell it's a tryout because the player recording this did not get hurt by the tremendous flames.)

So yeah, you'd have to be in the zone that Deathwing will burn down in order to get that Feat. Also, they say that the only hint you get that he's coming soon is the sky changing into a dark red accumulation of ashen clouds.

In Cataclysm, there will be 30 zones in Eastern Kingdoms and 23 zones in Kalimdor. That's 53 zones, and -again, presumably- only one will be assaulted by Deathwing each day.

Maybe every hour, I dunno. But good luck! :D

It appears there are 2 ways for RNG to annoy you with this Feat of Strength:
1) Deathwing never visits the zone you're in
2) Deathwing always visits the zone you're in

If you are on a taxi flying through a zone that is getting zerged by Deathwing, you will get the achievement done, but you won't die.

My husband and I both got the achievement not quite two hours ago on Magtheridon.
We were running through zones exploring and hit Stonetalon Mountains when everything around us went red, looking up at the sky it was black - not long after we insta-died.

Pretty cool. though I'd rather have the achievement on my main but happy that I got it all together.

Got this achievement on Feathermoon-US at approximately 2:30 am realm time.

I camped at the fork in the road just north of Fort Triumph.

My screen turned red, and about 20 seconds later Deathwing flew over leaving my dead, decrepid female draenei corpse on the ground burning in his flames.

I advice you to not be doing the quests in the Faldir's Cove in Arathi Highlands if you want to die in flames. I found out that it's a safe spot and only got a glimpse of Deathwing's wing and then it was over. I bet this was as close as I could get to getting the achievement, and I lost it. :(
Quite annoying that the flame patches he leaves don't burn.

Just for more information, since I just got this achievement. I can confirm Zarhym's comment that getting warning from a friend won't help you: He only spawned for exactly one minute for me, between 10:01am and 10:02am server time in Arathi Highlands. You'll know he's in the zone because the sky turns blood red, and lighting effects make just about everything else red too. He flies FAST, and even if you're in the zone you may not have time to get into his path before he's done and gone. 858 million health, targetable. Had an active buff with a flame icon I didn't have time to read. You don't lose durability when instantly killed by his Molten Flame. Another person was afk in the zone at the time and died to Molten Flame but came back from afk dead with no achievement... we're not sure why that happened. They're ticketing it, but response times are understandably over a day this soon after a major patch. The death to Molten Flame IS in their combat log.

There's really not even enough time to get a summoning stone up and summon someone if you're already in the right place with a warlock and two friends, so give up on any thoughts of seeding friends around zones to watch for it for all of you. If you care enough to camp it, you'll have to just pick one zone and watch the sky.

His path for me in Arathi Highlands was just south of the main east-west road, starting around Witherbark Village and ending somewhat short of Galen's Fall. He didn't hit the road directly, and the elemental stonehenge deal was the only major mob hub he hit on the path. The particular spot I died was just southeast of the three-way fork south of Refuge Point. In case he always uses the same scripted path, this may help someone be afk in the right place if they want to try to camp it. Be ready for a lot of camping, though. (Then again, anyone who's killed or tamed Loque probably has the patience to get this one too.)

Today I came across Deathwing in Tanaris. Hard to miss him, when he's around everything (like EVERYTHING) gets red, for the moment i thought my screen broke. Deathing was flying above me but he missed me somehow so I didn't get my achiev.

The fires he left on the ground DON'T DO ANY HARM.

Got this achievement in Stonetalon Mountains running on some mountain-tops. Just doing my thing, then suddenly everything turns red, like a red light shining on everything. I thought "What the heck", then my m8 says "OMG its Deathwing!"

Then i died (and got the achievement). He was spewing fire everywhere, and he had 850 million hp.

He was moving so fast through the zone that your only chance of "farming" this achievements, would be to stand afk in one of the zones he is confirmed to be in (Stonetalon is one of them ;)

I went to Wetlands and waited there for a few hours, and finally Deathwing managed to find me, the screen turned all red and I was desperately looking for him, this is how it looked like:

A guild mate, whispered me shortly after, as he didn't get hit by the fire that Deathwing was making, or at least he didn't die from it, so he didn't get his achievement, he tried to be standing in the fire afterwards, but still no achievement. I am not sure if this is intended, or if its a bug :)

Just got killed by him, completely random and thoughtful of him, here's the story:
I was going to Thunderbluff to complete my achievement for the thanksgiving event when I came across the chasm known as the 'Great Divide' in the Barrens. I had fallen down into it as an attempt to cross it, I however soon found out that it was quite a chore to get out. Fortunately I heard Deathwing's roar across the zone, I was in my guild's vent at the time and I said the simple words: 'Oh hey guys, Deathwing is he-' and he killed my shaman, lol.

The upside of this was that when I released my spirit, it made me rez without rez sickness and it was in the Southern barrens, so thus not only did I get to my intended location, but I got an achievement out of it!
Total Win Imo.

*Please Note* If you're flying over a zone (as in Flight Path) currently under siege of Deathwing (aka epic music, red sky, terrifying dragon, lava spouting out of the ground), you'll be hit by the debuff, obtaining the achievement, however because of the way the game works, he won't kill you until you finish the Flight Path, even then it might not occur.

I managed to get it while flying within the zone as it started, don't know if it'll occur entering the zone or after he's passed and the lasting effects are occurring.

Some info for people who are camping zones trying to get this achievement, I just recently got a ticket answered by a GM regarding this achievement that had some.. Interesting info (I'll save you the story). But basically you CANNOT get this achievement or be killed if you are inside of a building.

Or so the GM said, I'd like someone else to confirm this. I'll edit this post and put up a screenshot if you guys want proof, I just don't feel like digging through my SS folder at the moment.

EDIT: Removed the tidbit about the mounted part, I'll keep the indoors part until someone proves it wrong.

I was in Arathi Highlands when it turned red. Unfortunately i was doing the dumb elvin vase quests in Faldir's Cove and was way too far out to ever reach him. he does not go anywhere near that cove so if you are there, even if you run inland you cannot make it, that's how fast he's there and gone :(

I got this achievement while I was on griff flying from Badlands to UC.. moment I entered Wetlands, sky went black and there was fire everywhere around.. But he didn't kill me, just downed my hp to 1.

I've been hit by him twice now.

The zone and your entire screen (minus hotkeys) will get a foggy red hue to it and Deathwing will start flying in at the northern part of the zone, heading quickly south. Took him about 20 seconds total from the time Stonetalon had gone red to the time he had left and the colors had gone back to normal. Seemed about the same time limit for when he hit me in Barrens.

I got killed by him in Winterspring. I was heading to a furbolg camp, when suddenly I heard a deep screech and the landscape turned to an orange hew. At that time I thought my WoW went up the creek, until I turned around and saw Deathwing in the sky! I was happy.
Oh and I didn't get a repair bill when I died!

So I've been questing in Eastern Plaguelands since yesterday and the sky turned red TWICE. I was able to do /target Deathwing on both occasions yet he never killed me.

Am I that unlucky or what? The post states that I'm almost definitely screwed if I'm in the zone he's attacking yet I survived. Twice.

First sighting occurred when I was questing at Tyr's Hand (at 23:45, realm time)and the second one near the Stratholme area (at 11:45 realm time) so if you're in Eastern Plaguelands when the sky turns red get away from those two areas asap if you want your achi. (unless of course he picks a different part of the zone every time? anyone? :))

Edit: It seems that there were 12 hours between the attacks so I'll stay in Eastern Plaguelands tonight and report back if he strikes again.

Just witnessed this event on live

Sky/lighting suddenly turned red like someone had turned on a red lightbulb or something, few seconds later i see him flying across the zone and he's gone in under 15 seconds or so and the sky went back to normal.

I was on a lvl 28 rogue killing syndicate in arathi at northold manor and he didnt touch me at all, seems to have just blasted along the path and over stromguarde keep

I completed my achievement on the Garrosh-US server at 7:03 pm server time in the Arathi Highlands at 44,66 (this is the 4th confirm in this location). You know you are in the right place if you are standing next to the rock giant NPC named "Fozruk"

I AFK camped that location for 5 hours and then waited another 30 min live until the fire came!

I saw Deathwing strafe Arathi Highlands earlier this morning around 1000 pst, but was not close enough to get hit. Running and standing in the fire he leaves behind doesn't get you the achievement.

I went and knocked out a couple other zones for my loremaster, and then went back to arathi. There I ran into some nice people and we pvp'd for for about five hours, all without any sightings of him.

Once we all split up and went out separate ways, I headed back down to Wetlands, the location shown in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRy6kX8Ca00 After about ten minutes, at 1729 pst, the sky turned red and Deathwing headed my way. I adjusted my position a bit so I wasn't offset at all and got the achievement. Time between the sky turning red and me getting killed was 48 seconds. There really is not time to get to a location for this achievement unless you're already there.

i was questing in Eastern Plaguelands (Tyr's Hand) when the sky turned red. i began running, hoping to get close to Deathwing. i never saw him, but did find fire around 63,67 (just east of Corin's Crossing).

Standing in the fire did nothing; so it seems your "Be Standing where the Fire Popped Up" is a more accurate name for the achievement.

Ok wetlands seems to be a good spot to get fried by Deathwing, I got the achievement earlier today on the Crushridge server. Time frame was about 3:50pm PST, the whole zone does not get wiped and he sticks to the same flight pattern as the youtube video others have posted. So be sure to be in front of him when it happens or your out of luck. My coordinates were 27, 35 or so at the time of the deep fried bbq. Goodluck to everyone hope this tad bit of info helps

I spent the morning camping the location where people seem to be having luck in Arathi with no success. Finally, when I got home from work tonight, I logged on, and about two minutes later he appeared at 11.41 pm EST on Nordrassil - US, coords 44, 64. You really need to be in the right place at the right time. That area must be the spawn location for Arathi, because it all happened so fast...first a shrieking roar, then the sky turned red, and immediately following he appeared. A few seconds later, I was dead where I stood, and maybe fifteen seconds later, he was out of sight. After I ressurected, I tried to follow the path of fires he left to see if I could catch back up to him for a closer view, but they started vanishing just after I started the trail, and he was nowhere to be found. It really seems to be a hit or miss circumstance. Good luck!

11:20 server approx. Western Winterspring, saw the sky change and watched Deathwing fly directly above me spewing fire. I saw no fire on the ground anywhere along the road, did not die, and did not get an achievement. Broken, imo.

I was in Southern Barrens doing some of the starting quests from that area and Deathwing passed, he fired the whole place... and I didnt take any single dmg at all, I even threw myself on the fire and I was still not dying and he did fire where I was standing.... and I was under him. You know he is passing on top of you cause the whole area becomes shadow like and tons of fire appear and its like dark... is this a bug?... cause if I was supposed to die... I was more than willingly lol.

I was just killed be Deathwing in the Blasted Lands but didn't get the achievement. He hit me with Molten Flame, just like it says at the top, and killed me and everything else in the zone. Is there something else that I need to do?

lol i got it in the eastern plaugelands today, i went to turn in a quest and i lag, then i got disconnected, i log back on and i'm dead... weird so i get back to my body and all of my guildmates were saying gratz. i asked them whats up and they said i got killed my deathwing

i was happy and pissed. happy that i got the achieve, but pissed for not seeing me get pwned by deathwing... oh well lol

at about 3am server time on madoran I got owned by Deathwing in Burning Steppes.. sky turned red... molten fire.. killed instantly.. the whole shibang... no achievement at all though.

Though some people say this achievement will be translated to a feat of strength eventually when Deathwing retires to brood in a hellhole of his choice, one of the key requirements, "Get killed by Deathwing", will be removed from the criteria.

This was a decision made by Blizzard based on customer petitions and emails that they would no longer be able to complete the achievement and would pose an unfair advantage to players who were merely "in the right place at the right time".

Instead in a future, undetermined patch, when the Aspect of Death is no longer available to commit his fiery genocide on the general public, in order to attain this achievement players must request the Molten Flame debuff from Deathwing via the in-game mailbox. Since Deathwing is a busy bee and will by then be fending off many adventurers, he will be unable to administer the debuff in person.

As per the achievements' modified criterion it will become necessary to mail Freshly Baked Bread, which will be returned lightly toasted. Upon consuming the bread, the achievement will be awarded, and the player will not die to the Molten Flame. This was determined unfair by Blizzard to penalise players for seeking to engage in their achievement system, and the player will be able to avoid the frustration, cost, and inconvenience of death and seeing a big scary dragon torching the landscape.

Yes I am being sarcastic, and damn you few for making me have to point it out. :D

Today he killed me at 12.30 in Arathi Highlands and at 15.40 in WPL.

A guildie was in EPL when I said in guild chat that Deathwing was in WPL, and the guildie said EPL sky had also gone red. He died about a minute before I did. I still haven't managed to actually see Deathwing though.

I was questing in Stonetalon, doing Beware of Cragjaw!.

The NPC I had to kill (Who is a gigantic fish) ate me and my screen turned red, I thought the red screen was just a visual to go with it all until I realized that after I had killed it my screen was still red. I popped up out of the water to notice a rather large Deathwing trotting across the sky burning everything.

I didn't get the achievement, since I was in the water. Also walking into the flames does not kill you/earn the FoS, you must be hit on-the-spot by his flames.

Guys i got killed by the dragon yesterday in the wetlands flight point just east of the harbor and i didnt get the achieve theres some bugs with it apparently. I left a note to blizzard and there working on it so ill have to do it again.

Okay, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I stayed in wetlands in hopes that he would come and kill me and which he did after sitting in the zone forever. My combat logs says that I was killed instantly by Deathwings Molten flame. I however didn't get the achievement. I died and ran back to my corpse popped up while the and still no achievement. I was already in the zone when he came and I was directly bellow him when he flew over and nuked me. I hope someone can let me know what I did wrong. Any thjoughts?

As i posted above i gave up farming after 30+ hours plus sitting in a bush in wetlands and tried lady luck, 2 days i have quested the zones that have been mentioned (Havent finished them all yet). Nothing still !

Imo those that got it in under 12 hours is just pure luck and i really dont think this is farmable to a point of not sleeping for days/weeks......

I will carry on doing my quest achs in the zones hes meant to pop in the hope that he strikes while doing those.

I saw mentioned on wow forums that this event lasts a year ? but thats just from a ordinary poster so i wont hold my breath.

Well, after waiting for hours in Arathi Highlands and Wetlands, to no avail, I finally got this achievement while I was alt-tabbed out in the arena in Gadgetzan. Sadly, I missed watching myself die to him. But on the upside, I got the achieve that I had all but given up on.

I can offer a bit of useful knowledge here.

He fried the EPL on Kilrogg today at 11:50am (give or take a few minutes). I burned in glorious fire at the Infectus Scar, where I was fishing for a bloated redgill on the nothern side. (It's part of the Limnologist achievement -- figured I might as well do something useful while camping).

According to our Deathwing channel, he then fried a mess of campers in Arathi Highlands at 5:02p server time. Meaning it was 5 hours, 10 minutes between him hitting zones.

It's possible he hit another zone during that time, but I have no data for or against that.

44, 66 in Arathi seems to be the hot spot. I camped it for 20m or so tonight and he showed up and killed me for the achievement. I know I got lucky but seeing how this spot had been reported more than others it seems to be a real good hot spot to try if you want to camp for this.

You're also dead center to him as he flies by this spot. It was really cool watching the sky turn crimson red, looking to my right, and seeing him coming right at me. I was so excited that I didn't catch what he was yelling and it didn't show up in my chat logs. He moves really fast and just kept going, I only saw him for say 30s before he was gone and the sky went back to normal.

If he has a set flight path it looked like he turned and was heading towards the Wetlands. But no one in my server's deathwing chat channel saw him there after I reported my death. So it appears that he just might hit zones completely at random.

I have been camping this achievement for some time now and after missing the achievement because of a glitch I had to redo it. It seem that every other day at 30min or so before 12 midnight that Deathwing would appear in Easter Plaguelands on Durotan server.

Deathwing hits servers every 3-5 hours (varies) and there's about 20 different zones he can hit.

He can never hit the same zone twice in a row.

Possible to get without dieing, how?

I had been questing in Badlands and The Blasted Lands, hoping to see Deathwing fly by. I had just gotten the achieve for 35 quests in The Blasted Lands and decided I wanted to head back to SW. I took the flight point from Surwich, as I came into the area between The Blasted Lands and Netherguarde Keep I spotted Deathwing off to my right just blasting everything to peices.

I was cursing my bad luck and letting my guildies know how bad my luck was, as I flew along I realised our paths would cross. Thats when I thought to myself, how wicked would it be if Deathwing killed me on my flight path (at the same time thinking that it was impossible). Thats when I saw my health drop to around 2000hp and was shocked when I saw my health fall to one and the achievement flash across my screen, I think I made one or two people in vent temporarily deaf when I explained what just happened. Oh by the way I landed healthy at SW, with a grin from ear to ear lol.

Note: The area Deathwing flew through in The Blasted Lands was a path starting at Shattershore continueing on between the Dark Portal and Dreadmaul Post, last I saw him he was passing into The Tainted Scar.

Got this achievement while leveling an alt in the Southern Barrens at about 10:45PM on WIndrunner US. As many others have said the only warning I received was an abrupt change in color of the sky from blue to red, and before I could figure out what was happening I was dead. Since I was on a Shaman at the time I popped my ankh, turns out after the initial blast the flames cannot harm you in any way.

Also this does not appear to be a feat of strength as others have said, I received 10 achievement points. A lot of work went into this 10 pointer and I must say the effects look very nice.

Last night (11/30/10) about 10:00EST on Area 52 he showed up in EPL, He didn't incinerate the entire zone but cut a path through the middle. After he hits an area there are big lava bursts that burn for a while but those will not do damage to you. He moves fast enough that I was unable to catch up to him on a 100% mount. He is absolutely massive though and from a good distance appears to fill up a good portion of the sky. I did notice that he didn't kill any creatures hit by his breath though as there were carrion grubs still wandering around where his breath had just hit.

funny thing was, i logged on specifically to hunt for this, took a taxi from if to epl to hang around crown guard tower like i see some folks had luck with.

on my way over wetlands, the sky went dark and i thought i was screwed (i'd never make it back in time)...but i turned my camera to see deathwing's face breathe right on me and i got the achievement!

i never thought it'd be possible to get it on a taxi but apparently deathwing doesn't care about game mechanics. i looked over and my health bar was just coming up from zero. the gryphon taxi heroically kept right on flapping onwards to epl :-D

Blasted Lands: I got hit in the Tainted Forest, just below the GY by the Blackleaf spawn point. From where I was standing, it looked like he started at about 35,50 and went directly south. I got hit at around 35,65 about 100 yards north of the GY and about 50 yards east of the western edge of the zone. His path continued directly south as far as I could see, so he probably torched the entire Tainted Forest area from North edge to South edge.

Like many of the above, I camped at 44,65 in Arathi several times over the last few days. Around 8AM server on US Emerald Dream I got up to get me a cup of joe, and while I was walking back to my laptop, my headphone speakers started popping.

POP POP POP like a mixture between hot frying bacon and very poorly designed speakers.

"What could this be?" I asked myself, thinking that I had accidentally opened a rollover ad on Wowhead, or I forgot to log out of my adult cam chat from the previous evening and she happened to be cooking me breakfast since I just single handedly put her through college.

Puzzled, I alt+tabbed back into WoW, and saw in my chat box that I had somehow "Stood in the Fire", even though my toon had been marked <Away> and was sitting down.

Oddly enough, my statistics counter still lists "Deaths by Fire and Lava: --"

A: Yes, this isn't a permanent event, but will last so long as he's free to roam the world.

US-Maiev @ 1:56 PM server (4:56 PM EST) on the nose, Deathwing appeared in Arathi Highlands (visible while standing at 44, 66). The sky turned red, and while standing at 44, 66 (in Arathi, near Fozruk), Deathwing became target-able at approximately 1:56:14.

At exactly 1:56:30 (30 seconds into the minute), Deathwing's open maw was completely in sight and I died/received the achievement.

The event was over at approximately 1:57:00. I have been here anti-afk'ing since approximately 9 AM EST (6 AM server/PST).

On aggramar we have started the channel deathwing and will be posting times and areas as he hits just to track an roundabout time when he shall hit next usually he does not strike the same place twice in a row but no telling where he will hit next. hope this helps if i cannot post where and when I will try to get others to help in this endeavor. He strikes on average every 5 hrs.

I was down in Tanaris, by the gnome questgiver at Land's End Beach when the sky got all red. It stayed that way for a few minutes, and I furiously rode towards the Valley of the Watchers. After 50+ hours camping over seven days at 44,66 in Arathi, Deathwing finally showed up at 8:39 am server time on Gilneas.

The whole screen went red and I was dead in less than five seconds. I tried to pan around to catch a look at him, but all I could see was the walls of fire around my corpse. Kinda irritated that I didn't get a good SS of him, but mainly just happy that I can actually get back to playing now :D

If you're planning on camping for this achievement, keep in mind that it really still comes down to luck. Some people can get it in thirty minutes, and others have to wait for, well, a week =/

8:49am Mal'Ganis server, Southern Barrens 45,73 towards the Southern end of the Battlescar. On the beginning of what I thought to be my 6th straight day of camping, 5 in Arathi and missing it by 2 hours, he hit me not 20 minutes after logging in :) This is an excellent place to stand if you want a good visual of him before he barbecues you. Saw him fly down a good portion of the scar before the flames completely engulfed my screen.

Like many others I camped at 44,66 in Arathi. Camped off and on the last 3 days. Finally got it today at 2:40PM server time on Dragonblight/US! The screen turned a faded red and I was like WTF? Then I realized it was Deathwing! A couple seconds later I saw him coming straight at me! Took some screenshots but because he's coming directly at me they're not the best. All I could see was the flame breath and his wings. As he got close and killed me all I could see was the fire.

Confirming that the north side of the Infectis Scar in Eastern Plaguelands is a kill point.
Specifically, I was standing at 50:59, right next to that tree.

I can also confirm that the Bloated Redgill for the new Fishing achievement can be caught in that lake (albeit with a LOT of casts).

I went AFK (sort of) to get some sleep; Having spent over 80 hours camping this, I was in dire need of some rest. >.<
I walked across the road to the south and pulled one of the bats, kited it to the shore, and just let it wail on me. Although being a Priest initially worried me, I happen to be a Troll...and our passive Regeneration racial easily made up the damage I was taking (roughly 19 damage per hit with Inner Fire up, about 31 or so with it down, in my PVE gear).

Grats to all of you who got it, and best of luck to those of you still chasing Death...wing. ;)

Arathia Highlands 44,66 confirmed.

A guild mate got burned around 1800 after of which I waited immediately following the entire time; I got burned at 2400. Six (6) hour difference. Not saying that it's a definitive 6-hour CD, but that is how long my wife and I waited.

Camped for 14 hours on Saturday, then from 9am to ~2pm today, and then packed up my computer to head home...apparently he hit Arathi (where I was camping) during the hour that I was gone. Decided that I would use the legal method of circumventing the AFK kicker, getting a Lifestone, along with enchanting spare boots with 7mp/hp5 enchant. Went to the 'gators in Wetlands (25,36) and let one attack me, yep, he couldn't bring my life down much before it went back up. Buuuut, no more than an hour later, you-know-who shows up and nukes me. Seems my 50+ hours of camping wasn't wasted, afterall. =P

Went to Arathi again 3 hours later and DAMN, there were around 30 people standing there! One person said that an hour ago there were fifty! I guess sunday nights are camping time nights? =P

So, bottom line, Wetlands - 25,36.

Was in-flight from SW tanaris to Gadgetzan when Deathwing appeared. I got hit by the fire in mid-flight, and I survived with 1 HP left.

Can confirm that 5 hours timer worked for me. Have been couting from a friends fact, when he got killed. Counted 5 hours until today and got the last time at 10:30pm. Just got killed in Arathi at the stone-giant (44,66) it's a really nice place to be!

Myself plus three other L80 horde got the achievement. Make sure you're alive, because it happens QUICK (unfortunately, our 4th member was dead due to pvp and didn't get the achieve.) Literally, the gray, raining sky changed to blood red, and then we died FIVE seconds later. No time to run, pop a shield, ANYTHING. The entire landscape and sky goes red, then you die, lol. Epicly nub to the max! :) Didn't even see DW coming at us until we were dead and he was on top of us flying over. We waited for a little over 6 hours collectively. Awesome achieve!

OMG just got this after waiting in Gadgetzan for hours. I flagged myself for PvP just so ally would be "brave" and attack me, only to die to guards.

Deathwing spawned at 4:44 AM ST or I guess 3:44 AM PST.

Was epic! The area turned red and almost gave me a heart attack. I looked towards the east, saw him coming towards me, got a sweet screenshot.

On a side note, my guildie got 250 rep per many factions. It was spam for him. I'm pretty much exalted with everyone except WSG rep. But, I lost 250 Bloodsail Buccaneer rep. : (

Arrrgh! Sooo frustrating!

On EU Vek'Nilash. Been camping the 44,66 in Arathi pretty constantly since last week. I went afk at about 4pm today, obviously got logged out due to inactivity, came back at about 8.30pm and the login screen informed me that I was a ghost...argh...logged in and indeed, I had the achievement! Soooo frustrating to have missed the actual event after all that waiting!

Some potentially useful info though - this must have occurred not long after 4pm, say between 4 and 5. The day previous, I was told by a fellow camper that I'd missed the last pass by a few hours, placing it between 3 and 5pm.

The achievement “Stood in the fire” is granted when standing in a zone boundary different than Deathwing's spawn location. In addition, players can now get this achievement by walking into the wake of Deathwing's fire after he has passed.

Got it yesterday, I was talking to an NPC trying to turn in a quest. Things went red, then flames and death.
Killed most of the pcs in the zone, and all the npcs I checked on in the little town I was in.
It does NOT kill everyone or blanket everything.

Also, if you aren't in the fire when it appears, you don't get hurt.
The fire hung around for a couple minutes, I did a /dance while in one for grins & giggles.

So this is an achievement you can only get by random chance, though the longer you are online, the better your odds.

Just for reference; you can get this by flying through a zone on a taxi. I was flying through Wetlands (en route to Arathi) on my Paladin and all of a sudden everything went dark and my health went down to 0.

You do not get kicked off of the taxi! In fact, you don't actually die. My health remained at 0 for about 20 seconds and my Paladin was playing the dead animation... but then my health just started going back up normally. I still have the achievement, but never died.

It is not correct that you merely have to be in the zone when he appears. I was in Uldum just now and the skies turned red and black and only a couple people in the zone said they got it, the rest of us got to run around frantically and then nerdrage after the fact. So: you have to be in the exact teeny tiny area in said zone that actually gets set afire. The entire zone does not get the fos. Thanks blizz. thanks a lot.

So I officially hate deathwing as of this achievement. When I first got it I was afk in EPL. I have since been killed 5 times by him in multiple zones and dodged him once. Apparently he has a serious grudge against me >.< Also if you are in the spot where he attacks it doesn't matter how high up you are. I saw the sky turn red today so I mounted up and flew about 100 feet into the air thinking I'd be safe. I was still killed instantly.

I just got this achievement in blasted lands - the other information up there is true. The sky turned red, I saw deathwing flying off in the distance. I flew over and landed in the flame already on the ground, got hit for about 60k health and got the achievement without dying. I hung around, and the flames stayed for five minutes after he put them down, so it should be a bit easier to get this achievement after the changes.

Questing in Uldum. Sky turned red i was like WTF. Then i was all OMFG DEATHWING, got out of the river, and started to fly, saw him heading from one end of the map then the other, flew towards him, well, so i would intersect his path, then he turned, came towards me and i was like. LOL IM GUNNA D-

Around 2:25 am in Twilight Highlands just north of Bloodgulch. He razed the whole forest there and me in the process. Protadin with 112k health and I managed to live through the first tick, even though I got the achievement and didn't die yet, stood in the fire just a bit longer just in case ;).

At about 4:57 Server time on Earthen Ring he torched Thundermar in the Twilight Highlands. I was in the Basement of a house working on Wildhammer Tour of Duty and he nuked the whole zone. From what I could tell when I released he hit A LOT of ground there.

I just now got this achieve. i was flying to ChiselGrip in Burning Steppes and got hit by his breath. I got the achievement and my hp dropped to 1 because i assume you cant die on a gryphon. apon landing i landed in fire and died from it burning. the flames do now kill you and do dmg. The fire stayed burning for almost 5 whole minutes from what i could tell.

on monday i was in blasted lands doing archaeology and the sky turned red and to the east was flames i flew over no deathwing but the flames were still there i landed in the flames dismounted and i never took any damage...i thought we could die after he flies away while the flames are there ?

It doesn't seem to be a FoS anymore - and is worth 10 points.

If someone if your guild gets it in Uldum - there is a good chance if you port to Uldum asap you too will get the achievement as Deathwing scorches the city in which you portal to. You do have some time after Deathwing passes to jump into the fire on the ground to get the achievement. A number of guildies did it this way.

I got mine while I was on a Burning Steppes griffin flight path. The sky suddenly turned red and I took the griffin. Deathwing's blast didn't kill me but left me to 1 hp instead, with a repair bill nonetheless. The oddest thing is that the zone he carpet-bombed was the Blackrock orcs' camp ... his own son's troops were ruthlessly roasted.

If you want this I recommend levelling Archaeology. Yesterday I missed him as I was on the wrong side of the zone when he hit Uldum. Saw the sky go red, but didn't see any fire.
He hit me today about 10 minutes ago when I was levelling Archaeology in Eastern Plaguelands, at Zul'mashar, though his fire went a lot further than just there

Today, in Uldum. The sky turned blood red. I tried to make sense of the strange occurance, but then I remembered it could only be one thing. Deathwing. I glanced around for a moment and saw nothing. But I knew he was coming, I unsheathed my staff in preparation for conflict. And there in the distance, flying in fast and hot, there he was...breathing down fire upon all he saw. I put my efforts into transforming into a bird as fast as I could to intercept him. "Your Madness ends here, monster!" I yelled...but I was no match...with an anguished cry, I fell....motionless.

So I was chillin' out in Uldum when Deathwing came, thought I was going to get the achievement, turns out I was stood in probably the only place that he doesn't set on fire in Uldum. I raged, Deathwing doesn't kill the whole area, just saying.

I got killed in Stonetalon Mountains last night.

Funny story, I was in Southern Barrens doing some Archaeolgy. Finish up there, and was going to go for a site in Mulgore, when my friend's Real ID broadcast that she got strafed by Deathwing for the second time. I check friend's list and she is in stonetalon. So, I book it for there and he caught me on the ridge coming from Southern barrens into stonetalon. Insta death, and blown off my flyer and down a cliff. Flambeed blood elf, courtesy of Deathwing :D

I was in Tanaris when he came in and burnt stuff up about halfway of the map north of me. I did not die, it was not zone wide. I did not get the achievement right away either. After running after him stupidly i thought to just swoop down and stand int he fire. I did not get achievement either. I whined on general chat and someone told me to stand in the fire where they were. I thought it was a long shot, but sure enough, oddly, the fire where he stood did give me the achievement. I dont know of this is a bug or what. But in the end i got what i wanted.

Camped for this for two days in Arathi at 44,66 and never got it. Finally gave up on it and leveled my archaeology. While leveling my archaeology I got this the very next day after i gave up on it right above Chiselgrip in Burning Steppes at about 1 am server time.

4am GT - was in Frostwhisper Gorge in Winterspring and suddently the bright surroundings turned red.

I flew about trying to find him and sadly found the remains of flames at Starfall Village towards north :(

At least now i realise how drastically the colour changes so i know for next time, the sky goes red and black in the middle and its just a matter of running round trying to find him - i suggest going to the middle asap because he usually incinerates up to there.

Found the same when he appeared in Eastern Plaguelands - one day i will get burned!

I saw guildie get the achievement in Blasted lands so i quickly used SW portal to get there. Landed in the fires in different locations of the zone, some even really fiery pits but didn't get the achievement. Flew into some fires in the air going towards east ocean border (didn't actually see the Deathwing). Then as i was standing in the fires some time they faded out and event was over :-(

In Twilight Highlands he hits Thundermar, specifically the 'northern' section of town (From the tall house, over the blacksmith, and over to the questgivers' house.

I noticed the sky go red, though didnt recognize why (thought someone was doing the Crucible)... suddenly i'm dead and got the achievement :D

I just got this achievment. It's not something that you can go after, instead it basically 'comes' to you.

I was minding my own business in Eastern Plaguelands when the whole forest suddenly got really red (even more red than usual). I thought the game was glitchy, since I have seen a few glitches earlier. So I didn't mind it and kept on walking.

Then I took my eyes away from the screen for 2 seconds and *BOOM* I was dead on the ground. First I thought another player killed me( :'( since I get that a lot ) but then I saw the achievment tab and the whole forest was on fire. Huge flames everywhere!

Apparently, our nice friend Death Wing was on his random stroll through Azeroth and he just burns every land he flies over.

I had the buff -Fiona's Lucky Charm- at the time so, in hindsight, I'd like to think of myself as "lucky" to witness this.(Maybe it's just denial and I really feel unlucky to die in Death Wing's flames :S).

The only thing I got out of this experience, other than the achievment :|, is a strong feeling for revenge. I am going to get Death Wing for this! I will kill him when he least expects it just like he did it to me!

Arathi Highlands

My goal today at point was 30 mins before i died i had a feeling deathwing would appear in arathi.
So i stayed here for like 30 mins or longer, and then it happend sky turned red and deathwing appears, surprisingly this only took less then 20 seconds, then he was gone again and entire arathi was blazed.

Why did i had a feeling he would appear there ? Well... pre cata i saw deathwing blaze wetlands, and 1-2 days later, it was arathi's turn. At that point it was a pure guess, but then it happend again 2 days ago, or well ye 1 day and few hours. Deathwing ablazed wetlands when i flew, however he was already gone when i arrived and the flames started to dissapear. At that point the day later (today) i had a feeling he was about to visit arathi highlands, and 30 mins later or so it all happend :).

Helpful hint:

Sometimes the fire coming from the ground will not kill you. HOWEVER, there will be one or two flames that will kill you, so if you missed his strafing run by being too far away or in a building or cave, jump on your mount and go running through as many of the fire spots as you can.

Half my guild was hanging out in TH and missed Deathwing's attack while we were in CoC - I jumped on my mount because people were claiming they got the achieve by jumping in the flames - while most of the flames did not kill me I finally found one that worked and all my guildies jumped in. W e all got the achievement at the same time like suicidal lemmings.

Yay! I got toasted this afternoon. I'd had what seemed to be a near miss in Arathi this morning, as I was inside the kobold cave near Hammerfall. I heard a roar just as I killed a mob inside the cave, and it took me about two seconds to figure out I'd probably heard Deathwing. So I ran outside, just in time to see a bloody red sky fade to a pale blue.

Disappointed, I bummed around Tanaris's Abyssal Sands most of the afternoon, since I'd seen a YouTube video there. (My brother got the achievement in Wetlands, but I play Horde so didn't even have any low-level stuff I could burn off while bumming around.)

Finally, I gave up and was flying to my next archaeology dig, when I took a short break next to Desolation Hold. I stepped away from the computer for a little bit, and when I came back, the sky was red. Had I just missed it?

Then a ginormous shadow swooped down from the north, blazing a way down the Battle Scar. Five seconds later I was a charred and smoking cinder. Death has never been so exciting.

Nearly one day after getting this achievement in the Southern Barrens, I got torched a second time, ALSO in the Southern Barrens, just a few minutes shy of 25 hours later. I was on an archaeology run this time. (I was pleased because I got screenshots without my UI in them this time.)

Well when a guildy got it. I seen, via right clicking his name, that he was in Uldum. So I went over from the port in SW. As soon as I got there. I was cooked.

So if timed right, and if possable, you can make it.

BTW. I was near Sw when he went up in flames.

I got this on my Druid in Winterspring had no idea what was happening until the achievement popped up. Had the screen go red in Uldum like he was going to attack on my Paladin but after a while screen went back to normal and I didn't get the acheivement.

I just got this 4th January 18:28 Server time.
I was heading to The Hinterlands, as i'm doing Archaeology and had 2 digsites there.
I was wondering if Deathwing was going to BBQ ppl in Arathi Highlands, when a loud unusual roar came, and everything turned red. I though "Yes Yes Yes!," cuz i badly wanted the Achievement. I saw him flying (big and very ugly) from East to West of Arathi Highlands, heading to Hillsbrad Foothills. I turned around and flew towards him, and when i got closer, i dismounted and died, and then achievement popped up.
It only took around 10-20 sec from when Deathwing showed up, and dissapeared again.
The fire burned for around 3-5 minutes.

Look forward to see this, and get the Achievement, it's so amazing!

I got hit at 1Pm today, was sortof unhappy that I was on an alt.
Exactly 7 and a half hours later, Deathwing goes off and carpet bombs my afk friend.

What a glorious day. But it also got me thinking, he stopped by S Barrens at exactly 1PM and Twilight Highlands at exactly 8:30PM.
7 and a half hour timer between Burnanates?

I was going to investigate but the servers just went down and that means it would've reset.

Even though GMs said you do, you do not get the achievement for going to a zone with fire and walking into it. My guildy got it, I rushed to Wetlands and stood in the fire, but didnt die or receive an achie.

It seems you can get killed in mid air. Even when really high up. I went afk in Twilight Highlands, and flew up high enough to avoid being attacked by ground mobs, and flying drakes. He still got me.

You don't actually stand in the real fire- though I know many people think that. I didn't see him until after he killed me and was unaware that the sky turning red was him showing up in TwiHi. It's insta-death.

I was looking into this achievement just to get it for fun and say I have it and honestly i knew i'd probably get bored and never get it.
I saw that most ppl had luck in arathi and even with ppl saying they would wait countless hours I was hoping to get lucky so I planted myself at (44,66) like other posts say.
I was in a group with the boy toy who was running around doing archeology and at one point he came to sit with me for awhile.
A little after he left just an hour after I had started waiting I saw the distinct sky change
I of course said omg and deathwing is here but thats all i could type before I got the achievement. It goes so fast that i had no time to see deathwing or even notice the flames and me gettting painfully killed... the first thing i noticed was the achievement than i looked around to notice me dead and everything on fire.
Now my boyfriend wasn't far away so he flew back really fast and tried to stand in the flames since a lot of the posts have been saying that they fixed it so that will allow you to get the achievement... well you won't...
It was at 7:15 server time on malorne not that i think it really matters
The spawnings seem to be random the path he takes though is not.

Was working on my archeology in Arathi Highlands over in Witherbark Village (loc. 66,67 not that it probably matters much). Suddenly my screen turned completely red (I didn't have my sound on so not sure if there were any other warnings about him being there) and less than a second later I was dead and had earned the achievement. I was confused enough that it took me a few seconds to really realize what had happened. But hope this helps for people who are either looking to get the achievement or avoid it.

ok i havent heard anyone say this yet but this is how it happened to me...
i was in uldum doing the quest where you are in that big red fire ball running gnomes over, i noticed the whole screen go red and didnt know what was going on, i thought it was my montior plug pullin out on my lappy cause the screen turns colors when that happens. so i finish the quest and the screen goes to normal and i see fire everywhere and knew that deathwing had come but i didnt die or see him. so i tried going in the fire and nothing, so i was pretty pissed i didnt get killed and get achieve, now i go to turn quest in on that big boat thing and noticed the fire looked more intense, so just as i fly in to turn it in i die and get achieve. So apprently theres is a spot or so among the all the flames that is more intense then the others and will kill you.

You hear him scream or roar, everything around you takes on a red cast. I was on the west side of Stonetalon when I heard him and saw the atmosphere change and being at a high altitude (Cliffwalker Post) I actually saw him approaching. Then it was all flames and I was dead. Echo Isles, 12:00 midnight, 1/14/2011.

Okay guys.

As far as I can tell, if you're on a flying mount (your own flying mount) when Deathwing hits, you will still be killed, however if you're on a taxi mount when you get hit by it, you will not be killed, however you will still get the achievement.

I was lucky enough for this to happen to me on 15/1/2011 at around 18:40 realm time.

You should get this automatically if you're doing a lot of archaeology. I've collected about 25.000 fragments so far and today I got toasted the 4th time by deathwing. First time was in Arathi Highlands, second and third time in Southern Barrens and the fourth time was in Blasted Lands.

If you don't like archaeology, do something else. Get your loremaster (if you haven't already). Collect herbs/ores. Or go fishing. You could sell the fishes for a lot of money and buy boe-epics from that. Just do something productive. You won't get it, when you're idling in SW/OG to pose on your new drake and only leave the town to do some dungeons or battlegrounds.

Camping in a specific zone is a horrible idea. Deathwing could visit the zone multiple times every day in the next few days. But it could also happen, that he will not visit this zone for weeks! It's pure RNG. It doesn't matter if you fly around between zones or stay in a zone. They chance to get this (or not get it) remain the same. You'll get bored pretty fast, when you do nothing else than waiting. So use the time, to get some shiny epics or achievements.

Hmm. I got this on my rogue... my Subtlety rogue. I touched the fire, *ACHIEVEMENT*, <CHEAT DEATH>, flew off.

I got an achievement for getting killed without getting killed!

EDIT: Might as well say, I was in Uldum doing a quest, during a cutscene the sky turned red and there was all kinds of shouting. I, of course, thought this was part of the quest, but luckily found the flames after I dead what Deathwing shouted. So, for those of you in Uldum: none of the quests make your screen turn red. Skip the cutscenes if that happens

I did in fact survive Deathwing visiting Wetlands while lvling Achealogy, how?

I climbed into a lead covered refrigiator in best indina jones style!

On a serious note I did in fact survive it by being down in tomb 44.0,25.2, saw a huge a** dragon comming my way and decided to hide, what can I say? Well I didn't want a repair bill!

Also after the event wetlands was ofcourse set on fire and I did in fact try jumping into multiple flames on the ground, even the bright ones non of them killed me, so either it's been fixed or is just a urban legend that the flames on the ground is able to kill you as mentioned in the comments.

Another thing is that when the event occurs in the zone you're in everything is killed and I mean litterly everything! Even the flightmaster was killed on my server and for some reason it seems to remove mining nodes as I was a tin vein behind my character before Deathwing decided to barbecue the whole zone and it was gone afterwars.

Hmm... Now I know how it's like to survive a nuclear blast, but I got a feeling like it isn't over because eventually Deathwing will get us all!

His revenge upon me will tear the server apart, his rage know no limits and that the server maintance today was just a excuse to kill those whom escaped him.

You can get the achievement while on a flight path. I was flying from Dawnrise Expedition to Gadgetzan for the Lunar event. As soon as I got on the FP, the sky went red and I literally flew into Deathwing's path. I got hit by the fire and got the achievement and I was brought to one HP as his Molten Flames tried to kill me, but couldn't since I was on an FP.

Eitrigg(US) - got the achievement last night in Winterspring, just south of Overlook, at 11:59 server time. Was meeting the elder in Everlook, saw the sky go red and turned around just in time to see Deathwing fly by. Rode into the flames on my lvl 75 paladin, got the achievement but didn't die (just got down to 25-30% health) while mounted. The flames were mostly around Lake Kel'Theril. Funnily enough, the elder at the lake was killed by the flames and I had to wait for her to respawn :)

was lvling my herbalism in tanaris 5-7 mins ago on the server azune when the sky changed in a split second, i knew it was him, and i saw him spraying fire all over, i ran into the fire with my 100% ground mount AFTER he had sprayed it, and got the achievment! i guess im just a lucky bastard!

Decided to camp for this acheivement since I'm supposed to be 'working' during the day... so parking a toon is no worries.

Anyway, I took the advice of some and had camped Arathi Highlands 44,66, next to the big Stone Dude. Camped for 2 days, (1/24 & 1/25) from 11AM PST to 4PM PST both days (with various periods of short departure) and didn't get anything.

Then I found a spreadsheet that someone kindly assembled with all the locations, times and servers Deathwing did his thing so I did a quick Pivot Table and determined that based on this self-selecting survey, Wetlands had the most hits at 24 instances vs. 15 in Arathi.

So I headed to Wetlands.

That was about 90 minutes ago. At 12:01pm I was nuked by Deathwing. Nothing new that you haven't already read - Screen turns red for about 1 minute and you hear him coming and then you see him and then you die.

I took a screenshot of it and and sure 12:01PM, PST was the time.

Location: Wetlands, Sundown Marsh, 32.1, 29.5
Time: 12:01pm PST
Server: Uther

He flew East to West in a East-North-East direction, and I saw a trail start at 65, 46. Ending at 32, 29 in the Wetlands. he flew over Green Warden's Grove, torching EVERYTHING.

If you die and choose to resurrect at the graveyard, you'll be safe though you are surrounded by flames. I'd suggest you fly over everything and check out the damage... It lasts for about 5 minutes.

And for posterity sake, here's a shot before I succumbed to the flame.

In a strange turn of events, I just got this achievement by taking a wind rider from Stonetalon to Orgrimmar. As I was flying through, there was large plumes of lava that kept bursting through the ground. (1-27-2011)

Was doing my boring archeology 10 mins ago and headed to Gadgetzan.
When I landed everything was engulfed in flames.So i stood in it, and got my easy achievement. =D I didn't see deathwing though.
I was happy because I was on my main toon and thought I could no longer get it since cata is already out.

My boyfriend will be bummed he wasn't with me =D

I got this achievement this am 6:30 on Muradin, I was chilling in Twilight Highlands looking for Sambus, when booooom a wall of flame just engulfed my screen and I was toast. No buff, just dead and achievement. Very cool graphics.

Well it doesn't. Fire erupts in a zone and players, creatures and NPCs can all wander free through the middle of it.

Seems like Blizzard are reluctant to have Deathwing griefing players especially since the zombie invasion event and its aftermath. the fact that this event turned out kinda lame makes me rather confused when they say:

"Deathwing doesn't care what level you are."

he doesn't care about us but he's not going to harm any of us. Some baddie he turned out to be...

Decided, on a whim, to do some of my Archeology last night and headed down to Tanaris. Was just sitting at the Horde flight master in Gadgetzan as I wasn't in any rush to go anywhere when I noticed the sky had suddenly changed to red. Less than a minute later, I was dead with the achievement. Caught a glimpse of Deathwing as he flew over, but that was it.

i was levelling my alt at tanaris and saw the sky turned red
i knew it was deathwing coming then i log off ( i was right beside the inn so there's no waiting time) and log in my main ( who was sleeping in the very inn in tanaris ) and all i saw was flame and dead players. i guessed i missed him again
the time used to log off and log in was definitely in 40sec so does that means you have to be there as soon as the sky turns red or you miss it?

I was in Tanaris, and thought "Hey, I feel like flying to Gadgetzan", so I took the Fp, and Minimized. Right before I minimized I saw the Sky turn Red and thought "Oh @#$%".
Then my computer lagged, and I had to wait like...2 minutes to get Wow to come back up, and found myself dead:D

I just got this achievement in Uldum. I am already Exalted with Ramkahen, so I do not usually do their two dailies. As I started to Hearth, something told me to do the Fire From the Sky Daily. As I proceded with the quest, Deathwing decided to pay Uldum a visit. Up got to go, Guild is calling.

Hey all! Amitola here and new on this site, but yeah I got a shock of my life about 3 hours or more ago, but yeah I'd just entered the Burning Steppes and had just accepted the new quests after checking in with the guy. I was in the process of killing one of the whelps, when out of the blue things changed and the next thing I know with no warning, I was turned into a hunter kabob with wolf on the side.....I was sooooo ticked for a while, until I looked at my screen and saw this achievement pop up and my guild channel was going off with congrats and some even getting jealous. Apparently some haven't achieved that nice achievement yet, but be warned it will hit without warning! ha ha :) To bad I didn't know what was happening and I didn't get a screen shot, but I wasnt the only one in Burning Steppes that died from rage overdosed Deathwing, there was one other there :)

Got this today after a few weeks away from game. I was inside the main building in Ramkahen right in front of the King facing him, trying to hearth back to Orgrimmar when out of nowhere I died and the achievement popped up. I knew I would end up getting it sooner or later when I least expected it but man.

Deathwing has some bad timing. I've been outside the immediate area before so I've seen him attack first hand but still I was inside a building...hearthing. Didn't see a damn thing except a little flash of red and my toon died. xD

But hey, if you really wanna get this achievement it can't be stressed enough that it's complete luck. You're going to have plenty of time to do it, Deathwing isn't going anywhere for a long time so just relax and don't think about it out and sooner or later it'll happen.

Woot! Got killed by him about 10 minutes ago. It happened so fast, I was on my gnome rogue who is level 29 I got killed too fast and it wasnt by flames which is very unusual. I got killed in the Arathi Highlands. I got the achievement and I have a picture of his health bar I quickly took on my cell phone and uploaded to my email. :D

my guildmates and I was heading to Throne of the four winds for 25 man progression, while flying to tofw, the sky turn red my raid ground disengage tofw and headed to Deathwing location. for few sec I seen nothing but spam Stood in the Fire achievement. Wipe on Deathwing -10000 for EP for standing in the fire :D

I found it funny that approximately a week after the patch for Cataclysm came out I got this achievement while questing in Winterspring for the zone achievement. I stood for a second inside a cave, got an achievement, stared at it and inside my head my gears turned and kind of said vulger things. I smiled that I got it pre-Cataclysm launch, but it scared me a little lol.

Apparently, you don't need to actually get killed to get this achievement.

I was on a taxi flight heading into Twilight Highlands, when Deathwing decided to strafe this zone. I got hit by his fiery breath while still on the taxi and got the achievement, but I had a few hitpoints left and didn't die. Perhaps this is because the taxi was in his reach for only a short moment.

Moments after the taxi landed, the sky cleared up and Deathwing was gone, with me still smoldering slightly, hurt badly but not quite dead yet.

I haven't gotten the achievement yet, but it is not like I have tried either. Both my son and a friend were nailed by Deathwing in Burning Steppes, my son was at coords 65.51,59.58 when he got hit. (Valley of Ashes area near the bonfire).

i just saw deathwing fly over the twilight highlands but he did not put any fire on the ground. I think it just bugged for me and a could not see the fire. I had a guild mate summon me to tanaris into a flame patch and i got the achieve.

After missing Deathwing 3 times and being unable to get the achievement despite standing in the fire, I got finally got it at 10:02 server in Uldum (Mok'Nathal). I was doing some archaeology when the sky went dark. I freaked out and started heading towards Ramkahen (from Obelisk of the Moon) when he met me halfway and said hello.

There were NPCs around me that were killed when I died but he didn't leave any residual fire behind. There was also at least one person in the zone who wasn't on the path Deathwing took so he wasn't able to get the achievement. It would be a shame if they changed it so he stopped leaving fire on the ground.

This must be a totally random achievement...
I was in Eastern Plaguelands at lvl 48 at coords 58,69 sometime around 12:22 AM server time. The environment around me turned red - thought it was part of the quest i was on or something (Catalysm) and then 5 secs later I was dead and standing in the graveyard. Then the achievement popped up and my combat log said I was killed instantly by Deathwing's Molton Fire along with a couple critters, a Plaguehound and a Blighted Surger.

finally got him at Twilight Highlands in the lake found in the middle of the land.
Took me months and when i wasnt looking for him he appeared.
Was amazing to see but the sky did not change like it does in other places where it goes red/black and swirley.
he also leaves no flames in TH - i was flying on my mount when he appeared, i flew infront of his flames and it took me down and i died.

now he will probebly keep following me about and killing me when i dont want him anymore...

Got this earlier today when hunting for mud at the Burning Steppes, so in the vicinity of (20,45), somewhere at the edge of the lava pit that surrounds Blackrock Mountain.

Incidentally, I also learned that, while ghosts walk on water, they swim on lava!

I got killed by Deathwing in Southern Barrens at 1.15AM. When he came, the zone went all dark red, and the game played a lil "warning" sound, few seconds later he came and killed me.

He did not leave fires on the ground in the zone after he had passed by.

Hmmm.... just got this achievement for a different character while questing in the Stonetalon Mountains. After blowing up a pump my screen seemed to go red and I assumed it was a glitch. Continued to go along killing mobs when suddenly I got the achievement and the rest of the mobs around me died along with me. There was no fire and as far as I could tell, no Deathwing. I did look around before releasing. Guess he was nearby somewhere.

I never tried for this achievement, I was on there today doing archeology in Burning Steppes and the ground all of a sudden turned a shade of red. Silly me I started trying to adjust my monitor color, I was certain the video card was going out. After a few seconds i decided to mount and fly up to go to the next spot to dig in the same area and a HUGE DRAKE was flying over me and hit me with a fireball. I saw the achievement. So I guess it can be random. This was about 10 minutes ago. Hope it helps.

I actually got this achievement without dying. This is because I had EXTREMELY lucky timing, EXACT right place at the EXACT right time. I was in Mount Hyjal, questing (still 81 at this point), and I decide "Hyjal is kind of boring me right now, I'm gonna go check out Vashj'ir." I believe I had forgotten to set my hearth to Orgrimmar (this being one of the first times i had played since about 3 months before Cata, and it was still set to Dalaran) so I realize i have to take a flight path (I only had expert riding at this point so flight path was faster). Anyway, I'm flying and i go through this area at the EXACT same time as Deathwing is strafing. I fly right through his flame, my health dropped to 1 (because you can't die on flight paths) and I got the achievement. So I got the achievement STAND in the fire (Criteria: get KILLED by Deathwing) while neither STANDING nor getting KILLED. Yay for pure blind luck. Now I just wish I could have the same kind of luck finding the rare spawns so I can tame them. I mean I got lucky with getting Stood in the Fire and getting Dory's Finery on one of my first runs through Grim Batol, so why can't I have the same luck finding the Cata rare spawns.

I was doing quests in Western Plaguelands with Zen'kiki when I got this. I had -nearly- gotten it before, in Eastern Plaguelands, but it somehow glitched. (I was in the zone, fire turned red, Deathwing left, waited a few minutes, nothing.)

I was THRILLED to get this. Not only because of the achievement, but SOMEHOW the 4 remaining kills I needed for Zen'kiki, the Druid counted towards the quest when DEATHWING wiped the zone.

Poor Zen'kiki didn't make it, though. :[

As soon as I heard about this achievement, I was really excited and spent a lot of time exploring the world after the shattering, both out of curiosity about the world changes as well as hoping to get fried by Deathwing. I was really disappointed when the Cata expansion hit, and I still had not even heard of anyone on my realm getting this achievement. I did get it in the end, and it is as people say - completely random and based on luck!

I first got this achievement on my main a couple of days after the Cata launch, when my husband was in Uldum and the sky turned red. He shouted at me to get there, so I teleported to SW to try getting to the portal area in time. (For some reason it took me a couple of months to realize I could learn Teleport: Tol Barad... *facepalm*) It was an agonizing flight across SW, but I somehow managed to get to the Uldum portal just in time to die as the loading screen finished! Since then I've gotten it on my druid alt about 5 times, all in Uldum except once in Twilight Highlands and once in Winterspring. Uldum seems to be quite a popular destination for Deathwing, since I've also seen piles of skeletons several times when I've taken the portal to that zone.

At first i was at Malaka'jin and then my screen turned red, But since cata came out it was late and i thought it was a new sunset stage there. Did they change the duration of the fire after Deathwing flies over? Two days ago I was in Western Plaguelands when the sky turned red. So I got on my flying mount and flew towards Deathwing. I got close to him and died, and my body fell to the ground, but got no achievement. I figured I had time to run from the spirit healer back to my body which took less than a minute. But when I rezzed, everything looked normal again, no fire, and no achievement. qq

I can confirm that you can still get this achieve. I was flying over EPL on my 19 twink and was toasted by deathwing. Apparently you don't die if you're on a flight path.. Haha so stoked to have that achievement on my 19.. I wonder if it will ever be a feat of strength..

He just flew over Tanaris. I saw him, because he flew past me (Far away from me). I was pointing at his ass, then suddenly he instakilled me. The spell he uses instantly kills you, and you get the achievement. Also, he may look pretty weak, he only had 800k hp. So do not let the HP fool you, because he 1hits you.

Got the achievement 21:45 on Tarren Mill.

EDIT: I saw wrong on his hp. He actually have 858.9 Million HP.

I just got killed today in Easter Plaguelands leveling my alt.
Everything randomly went really dark red, darker than the Plaguelands usually is. Then I see a freaking giant dragon out of the corner of my eye, he turns to fly right over me, and BAM! Dead by deathwings "Molten Fire".

Got a couple good SS's, but it won't let me post them. Seems Deathwing is alive and well, "Killing plaguebats instantly with his Molten Fire"

I camped Wetlands for 20 hours about a week ago and no dice. I decided to try and get the Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Hopes and hopefully get killed by Deathwing meanwhile, and it worked. ^_^

So far, I've seen this elusive dragon three times since his roaming attacks began. The first sighting was in the Southern Barrens, by Naralex's place, I panicked and left from the wrong direction and was not singed.

The next sighting was at the Twilight Highlands, General chat states that he began around Thundermar and he reached around the area below the Bastion of Twilight (the team-killing bastard), still not singed.

My final sighting was at Uldum, he began near Ramkahan and reached somewhere around Orsis. Not singed.

I don't think he loves me, so I will stalk him until he gives up and singes me. Feel free to downrate crazed ramblings of someone who wants the achievement.

Noticed that after his breath the fires that spawned and were used to get the achievement in case you missed his breath, didn't spawn. Good luck.

A funny story on how I got mine. I was in Eastern Plaguelands doing the Fiona quests so I can open up the Argent Dawn quests. I went to click on the carriage to take me to a different spot when the screen went red and I heard my death cry. Deathwing is indeed still alive and well, wreaking havoc and bestowing achievements across Azeroth.

I was on my way via the Wetlandsand Arathi to the Hinterlands in order to pick up Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-FC (Reward for the quest "Snapjaws, Lad") and I was just approaching Greenwardens Grove when the sky turned a Hellfire red and Deathwing flew over the Grove, torching everything on the ground below him as he went.
Cursing his name as he flew off into the distance, I looked around to see if anything was still functional. I navigated my way through the flames to where the FlightMaster still stood (albeit wreathed in flames) but the moment after I has clicked on him and received the message "New Flight Point Discovered" I dropped dead and was awarded the achievement.

Oh, and by the way - after I has recovered from the ordeal I continued through Arathi to the tunnel to the Hinterlands, but encountered a strange blue force field halfway along the passage that would not allow me through. What's that all about then?

I was farming up some plants in Twilight highlands and I got AFK. When I came back I saw my corpse there and I said: "FUUUUUU! what the hell?" but then I realized I got an achievement so Everything went better than expected :D

I was in Arathi Highlands, at Stromgarde, just killed Otto and heard a dragon roar. Thought nothing of it, then a minute later MY EYES BECAME FIRE ITSELF for about 5 minutes. Funny thing was I was indoors. Guess he has big flames.

2 seconds later I click the portal to Blasted Lands and end up in an inferno. XD Seems the old dragon is still out heating things up.

Deathwing seems a bit like London Buses - you can wait for ages and then several arrive at once...
Having not seen a trace of Deathwing since he torched SW park, 3 of my characters have been torched by him in the last week!
The most recent was on the Field of Blood in the Southern Barrens, when he flamed the Alliance Forward Command Post there - but I managed to get the achievement without dying and with no loss of health whatsoever! A bug, surely?
In any case, I feel slightly guilty about getting an achievement for getting "Killed by Deathwing" when I was not killed at all!
Perhaps it's just coincidence, but it seems to me that Deathwing has increased his activity recently - Is this the start of Deathwing's World Tour? And if so, where can I get my "Stood In The Fire Azeroth 2011" T-Shirt?

Just got this achievement today (5/2/11) while hovering afk in Tanaris.

I came back to the computer screen and I was dead and wondered how that could have happened when I was floating up in the air. So I checked the combat log and realized it was Deathwing's Molten Fury that instantly killed me.

You don't have to be standing there when he is there. I logged in on one toon today in Arathi Highlands and there was already fire on the ground, I walked into it and got the achieve. I then logged another toon, ported to UC, flew all the way to Arathi and the flames were still going... unfortunately, they disappeared just as I was nearing them. But the flames stayed around for a long time.

Got the achievement last night around 10:00PM server time in Twilight Highlands. I was at Twilight Breach when the sky turned red. I knew what was happening because I read about the achievement here so I got on my mount and started looking for him. After a few seconds I saw him so I flew to him and managed to hit him with my sword for a whopping 5K of damage before he cremated me. Needless to say, after that excruciating battle he'll think twice before attacking me again :)

I'm not sure if this has been addressed but it seemd like he flies around through adjacent zones, rather than just teleporting between zones on different sides of the continent. While I was grinding out my Archaeology in the Hinterlands a guildie in the northern Ghostlands got hit so I flew into the Eastern Plaguelands and managed to snatch the achievement up there. I guess Deathwing had just passed through because he was nowhere to be seen but half the zone was on fire so I just touched down for my achievement. It didn't even do any damage!

Gained achievement in Twilight Highlands,
randomly died while killing a caster & was like WTF!
I actually died where this particular pat spawns with it's elemental friend.
The fire killed me, the mob I was killing and everything that spawned there.
The spawn rate was very high, and I was able to loot them all.
Spawned every few seconds, it was awesome.

I just got the achievement now on two of my characters. The flames stay for a good 5-7 minutes after Deathwing arrives so you have plenty of time to log onto a different character, run into the flames (it will kill you), and get the achievement.

I got this achievement while doing archeology. I was going to the dig site in Felstone Field, southeast corner of the field, and he had already passed by. I just walked into the fire and got the achievement. it was at approximately 12:30 AM Realm Time (Haomarush server).

I believe that Wowlooter collects the data about gaining the achievement, but not the location at the time, so there is no empirical data, just anecdotal evidence.
My own impression is that the Plaguelands seem to be a frequent haunt of Deathwing, as does the Barrens in Kalimdor. In fact, in addition to one of my characters gaining the achievement in the Barrens this past month, I have also spotted him passing through there on two occasions since. (I'd forgotten I already had the achievement on one character, so Stood In The Fire... and simply died as a result!)

Got burned just now! Stonetalon Mountains while doing the quest in which I had to save druids from being bombarded by a huge bomb created in ashenvale. All of a sudden the ait turned red and I was like : wtf? never thinking that it might be our big friend who was paying a visite. Quite hot really :)

It's actually possible to get this achievement without dying. I got it on my pally while i was on a flight path through a zone Deathwing was in. it took me to 1 health and gave me the achievement.

blasted lands got toasted while on a flying taxi from Nethergarde Keep to Surwich, didnt know what the hell was happening, screen just exploded in flames and i was le morte and STILL flying. Taxi landed and my charred corpse just slid of the mount and landed on the dock with a squelch, all i could see was a bursts of orange because i landed right in a flame, it was shocking and horrific and the experience has left me traumatised i was only on a fishing trip to Surwich.

It's a funny story actually.
So I was in EPL on my hunter, and then I saw the sky go all red. I was really confused, and then I saw Deathwing! I was like "OMFG ITS DEATHWING GOTTA STAND IN HIS FIREEEEE!" So I tried, but he was too fast.

Later, I was on my main (a mage), also in EPL, and I was in the dungeon queue. Turns out that Deathwing flies over as soon as my dungeon queue pops. I was really pissed but decided to go with the dungeon.

Today, I was on my mage again, just finishing scholo for the achievement, and I see the sky blood red and all this fire. I was so happy! So I flew over to the fire, fully expecting to die, and it ticked once and I got the achievement. I dunno if they changed the requirements so you don't have to die, but nonetheless I got the achievement by not dying.
Moral of the story: If you miss it, you may get lucky and get it when you're least expecting it.

Also, it appears that he shows up in EPL alot. Out of the 3 times I've see him, they were all in Eastern Plaguelands.

I received this while moving from the Southern Barrens into the Stonetalon Mountains. Everything had a bright red tint as I entered the zone. I left the room and when I came back a few minutes later I was dead and there was lava everywhere.

If you want it and you are in a guild with the port perk and a guildmate gets the achieve, ask for a port the second they rez. You have a few minutes. That's how I got it on my main last night. Alas, it was on the border of Burning Steppes and Elwynn and I ghosted in the Elwynn Forest cemetery. I had a choice of spending, oh, 20 minutes running or just taking a hit at the graveyard. 32 gold repair bill. Ugh.

Naturally, two hours after my very first Deathwing encounter, I was questing on a different cartoon in EPL... fwoosh. Seeing the whole thing take place, I had ample warning. The screen is red for a while. Since I got the achieve on the main, the rest are going to flee.

BTW - to those asking about flight path hits. Yes, you do not die. You do get the achievement. I suspect you don't die because they did not write code to deal with going to a cemetery from a taxi.

Deathwing just blew up Tanris about 15 minutes ago on Kargath server.

Was questing in Uldum on an alt when a guildmate suddenly received the achivement in guild chat. Upon seeing his location, I decided to fly over there on my alt to see what was the situation. I came upon Deathwing melting faces in Valley of Watcher before despawning.

I flew into the fire left behind and recieved the achivement without dying.

On a whim, I decided to try to get my main over there. Logged into him from Western Plaguelands, used his ring of Kirin Tor to teleport to Dalaran and used the Caverns of Time portal.

Upon appearing at the mouth of the cave, I immediately flew to Valley of Watchers and the fire was still there. Flying into it got me the achivement as well. About a moment later, the fire despawned.

Look like there is a grace period where you can get the achivement after Deathwing appearing and disappearing after one of his strafing run.

Deathwing indeed still flames only a portion of the zone. The flames last about 3 minutes. I was in Uldum mining and sky went red. In zone chat people reported seeing DW at Ramkahen, so I flew over to Ruins of Ammon, found DW going overhead and landed into the flames and gained the achievement today.

Irony was that this happened at 6 pm EST on 5/21/2011 - Rapture!

Last night (26th May 2011) Deathwing came to Tanaris and I waited until he departed and avoided the flames for a while, then decided to test whether the flames were real or just imagery, so went through them. I got the achievement, but the achievement says, "killed by Deathwing", but I didn't get any damage from the flames and obviously didn't die.

Well all I can say is if you want this Ach and the screen turns red stand around for about 60 seconds (summons some guildies and and you all will get it, if he leaves a fire behind you can even run through that and get it! But if you are tired of dying over and over (like me 5x now) or just don't want to be killed by deathwing the minute it area turns red---- run! >>>which way?<<< your guess is as good a mine!

5/29/11: ported to Twilight Highlands for a little elementium farming and noticed fires on the ground along the river where there had never been before. My guildie in Vent told me to go stand in one for the achievement so I flew down and got it. I didn't take any damage at all, though. Maybe because I was mounted? No idea. Wish I'd gotten it on my main, though, because she's the one I've been working to get achievements on.

So another strike in the Plaguelands then... I have not heard of much activity in, say, The Cape of Stranglethorn... is there any kind of pattern in Deathwing appearances as far as zones are concerned?
Is there something distinctive about the geography or inhabitants of zones Deathwing appears in? Clearly He does not, it seems, operate in starting zones (Although he did famously torch the park in SW on one occasion), and it would seem that low level zones in general are unaffected, so I'm wondering if there appears to be an optimal level for DW strikes.

I got it at The Tained Forest in Blased Lands, it keps on for a little while, and I didn't see Deathwing unfortunately :( But you gotta wonder, that forest is full of trees and grass and leaves and such, so after a hazard of Deathwing's flames it would pretty much be left to ashes, but it wasn't *.* one hell of a strong forest I must say.

If you read the spell details, it deals damage based on a percentage. 100% over 2 seconds. So it doesn't matter what level you are, it will take 2 seconds to kill you

It's worth noting you do not have to die for this achievement.
I just got it at Stromgarde Keep, didn't get killed. Just landed on the fire when I noticed Deathwing tearing the place up, and pop goes the achievement - no death.

6/14/11 was just questing in Eastern Plaguelands - Darrowshire and he flew over. Got killed and the fire lasted about 5 minutes. All the while i earned rep with Argent and when the fire went out there was a ton of booty near my dead body. feels like i won a lottery.

Another 'I didn't die' post - was somewhat surprised that I'd not encountered Deathwing with all the Archaeology grinding I've been doing. At around 00:40 realm time last night the skies of Uldum took on a reddish hue (actually for the zone it looked like a nice sunset/twilight) - I had a look around but couldn't see Deathwing. I finished my archaeology digsite at the same time as the sky returned to normal. Cursing my luck to a guild mate I flew off and noticed pools of flame all over the Halls of Origination site, I flew down and through one patch of flames, got the achievement and didnt die.

So..my advice to others would be to have a good fly around for up to 5mins after the sky goes back to normal, you may get lucky!

Got it today.

I was questing on the EP side of Thondroril River and saw him fly over the river towards WP. He had set fire to the Weeping Cave area.

I swam across the river, ran into the fire to get the achieve and then ran back out avoiding death.

The fire lasted for a good 2-3 minutes.

I have this achieve on 3 or 4 toons now. But, this is the first time I've ran into it.

I got it without dying.

I was at Menethil Harbor waiting for the boat to Howling Fiord.

The sky turned red.

At that point, I got on my flying mount and flew to find the flames.
They were north of the Harbor.

I flew into them, received the achievement and flew out.

My guild mate is very jealous because she WANTS this achievement and missed it once. I didn't care, and I got it.

I got this last night also without dying.. In Uldum (lightning's Blade-US) Funny thing is, I was underground in the Chamber of the Stars, and would not even have known anything at all except that some people were complaining they were killed in general zone chat. I flew up quick, flew through the flames, and got the achievement-no death.

I'm a little disappointed, because while the achievement is cool, i really wanted to EXPERIENCE it.

I think to add to the sense of devastation in Cataclysm, DW should be flying over zones WAY more frequently, torching the place! Sure its inconvenient to get killed, but it would add more to the feeling of suspense and danger.

I got this achievement last night by complete fluke! I didn't even know it was an achievement to begin with.
I was in Barrens leveling up my Archaeology. The flames were directly over where I was leveling my Archaeology. I thought my graphics card or game was playing up on me so I ignored it and landed in the flames, they killed me and once I resurrected the flames were gone.

Location I found the flames was 'Vendetta Point' in the Barrens.

Not sure if its a glitch or what, but I was questing in Badlands and had to go to Dustbelch Grotto. At the very rear of the cave I noticed fire. I didn't realize it was the Deathwing fire at first, but it does look the same. Stood in it (didn't die), got the achievement, went outside and looked and there wasn't fire anywhere else. Not sure what caused the fire there, but I'm glad it got my alt the achievement :)

Logged in my 85 warlock while in Everlook , Winterspring and noticed the sky was orange so mounted up on my flying mount and went to see where the fire was. It was only about a 6 second flight to the west from the middle of Everlook. I landed in the edge of the fire and got the Achieve WITHOUT dying. :)

I received this acheivement today. I was in Twilight Highlands, at the Thundermar Ruins doing dailies. My screen suddenly turned a red shade, and I thought it was a display driver issue, and almost logged off. Moments later I was on fire and dead. I found out on here that the red screen is a tell that Deathwing is in the area. Had I known that my guildies could have come and gotten the achievement also I would have summonmed a few over. I know now.

For Horde players camp out at the Great Gate in Mulgores and Alliance same gate but in Southern Barrens. It seems the flight paths for Deathwing are mapped out for the AI so check this area out if you still end/want it, hurry 4.3 is on its way along with the Deathwing's dismise, making this Achievement a Feat of Strength at the moment he dies to the first raid.

First was while questing in Eastern Plaguelands, standing at one of the towers when everything turned more red that usual. The same character got killed by Deathwing a few weeks later while questing in Burning Steppes.

Next one died while flying from Hyjal to Everlook. Saw fire on the ground in southern Winterspring, came down for a landing...*ding* Achievement!

Third and fourth toons got it in Uldum. Rogue was visiting Ramkahen when the sky changed and zone chat started talking about it. After waiting a minute for the fire to die I logged onto my paladin and took the portal from Stormwind to Uldum; two achievements with one fire. The rogue got killed again while picking pockets for Ravenholdt rep outside of Blackrock Stronghold in Burning Steppes. That set my pickpocketing routine back a few minutes, since I had to wait a few minutes after the fire died down before all the mobs respawned.

Fifth toon got it while questing around the lake south of Corin's Crossing in Eastern Plaguelands. The lake itself was fire-free, but everything west and north of it was aflame. I had a good laugh seeing all the undead in the town respawning and dying instantly for five minutes straight.

Last toon got it in Western Plaguelands, while killing gnolls just north of Mender's Stead. I might have been able to move another toon there, considering how long the fire lasted, though probably not. But there's still a little time before 4.3!

This achievement is frustrating. I saw Deathwing twice. The first time was in Arathi right next to the gate to Hillsbrad. I even ran into the flames and didn't get the achievement. If I had know that some will kill you and some won't, I'd have kept running around. But I thought since it didn't work that I had to actually be hit by Deathwing rather than run through flames already on the ground. Wish I had known what to do at the time. The second time, I saw him in Blasted Lands near the alliance town in the NE, but I didn't get to the area in time and so missed out once again. I haven't seen him any other time and I've been running around on a variety of characters on multiple servers since he started burning things. It's really annoying. Maybe I'll try hanging out in Uldum for hours as that seems to be a popular place based on posts here. But I've done all the quests already, so it's just a lot of sitting around or random killing. :(

I would just like to report that if you are still lookin for this, you can afk farm it just outside HoO in Uldum. I was questing out there for achevs when I saw the sky turn red. I immediately mounted and started heading for that area from reading past posts sites near VP. Never saw Deathwing himself, but I saw bursts of fire building around HoO. Flew down, got the achev, and didn't even die. That's too toons now. The first time was in Twilight Highlands SE near the battling dragons. On a side note, plenty of Cinderbloom with a quick respawn time in that area of TH too, FYI.

I don't know if this has been said yet, so if it has been, sorry, but you can jump into the flames even if you're dead running to your body as a spirit and get the achievement. I found this out completely by accident!

I didn't even know this achievement existed. I was on the flight path from Orgrimmar to Westreach Summit, Thousand Needles on my alt to level my herbalism. Whilst mounted on said flight path, I suddenly earned this achievement and noticed I was flying through fire. I looked it up here, then quickly switched to my main and tried to take the same flight path. Alas, despite my vigilance during this second trip to Thousand Needles, I saw no trace of flames nor Deathwing himself.

Was leveling an alt today in Blasted Lands just before going through the portal and got the achievement on him. Had time to quit the game, log back in on my main, hearth to Org and portal to Blasted Lands to get it. The fire died down shortly after, I would guess it lasts roughly 1 minute.

Still possible to get it. Got it on my mage tonight in Arathi Highlands when I randomly took a flight (via flight master) just for Archaeology digging.. I was sitting on the eagle while I got the achievement, which says "get killed by deathwing". But I didnt die before the eagle landed, so it seems like you won't die during a flight, but still get the achievement, and then you die after..

Wow so I had to post a comment for this. I flew to Mender Stead in Western Plaguelands. I wanted to go farm for spider legs for cooking. Once I got into Western Plagulands, it got all red and I saw fire soon as I landed and just randomly died and the achievement popped up. I noticed a horde least ten levels higher than me was also there but they managed to survived. I randomly got owned by the fire.

Needless to say, I got myself an achievement completely by accident. XD

I got the achievement in the summer while I was leveling my warrior... I was in Winterspring and I was like wth I don't remember there being a red sky and weird walls of fire here? O_o I completed a quest there and then went to get some Coke... when I came back I found myself dead in the fire, first I thought that the fire was what damaged me xD then I did a Google research about Winterspring fire walls and found what actually happened :P

Too bad I never saw Deathwing though nor heard the awesome achievement get sound, :D damn you Coke for running out just at that moment! LOL

My lvl 40-something alt got it a couple weeks ago while doing the Fiona's Caravan quests in Eastern Plaguelands... a guildie was also in the area, questing. We weren't together, but posted in guild chat at the same time "Deathwing just got meh..." and yes, my screen turned red... then I died and got the achieve. Something else though... after I ran back to my corpse and not sure how I was going to escape (didn't know if running through the walls of flame would kill me again) since I was trapped... I just stood there for a few minutes. I noticed " -360 Argent Dawn reputation " and then about 15 seconds later, same thing. The guildie who also died by Deathwing's flame confirmed he was getting the same thing. I used my hearthstone to get out of there and it stopped. But the guildie didn't hearth out and ended up losing about 1500 Argent Dawn rep that he had just previously spent a couple hours questing to get.

I've seen it in the Blasted Lands three times now if that counts for any thing. Had just arrived from the portal in Orgrimmar, trying to get to the Outlands when I noticed everyone there (an alliance and two other hoardes) was just hanging in the back. Turned around and saw nothing but bright flames. Not even knowing about the achievement, I was the first dummy to brave it - ran right through, got out with most of my health gone but lived, and got the achievement. I found it odd that it says "Get 'killed' by Deathwing" but I lived and got it... but eh, I'm not going to complain. One of the other guys got it, too. I didn't notice if he died or not. I've yet to see Deathwing or his fire anywhere else, though...

So BASICALLY what I'm saying is you may not have to die... if you see the fire in the Blasted Lands and are willing to brave it just so you don't have to wait because you're impatient like me - just try running through it. Be mounted, of course, otherwise I don't think you'd make it.

Had a cool bug happen to me the other day; probably related to the one about rep-losing NPCs discussed above. I was questing in Burning Steppes when Deathwing came along and burned everything up. Everyone dies, I get the achievement, the usual thing - except that the group of mobs I was fighting at the time kept respawning and dying in the fire, every few seconds, and somehow I was getting the credit for the kills! By the time the fire died out and I could safely rez, about 42 zillion mobs had died, I'd gained half a level in XP, and I was knee deep in sparkly lootable corpses from horizon to horizon :)

Here's a bizzarre one. I was in Twilight Highlands on my Druid. I went into the Obsidian Lair during Following the Young Home. After doing the follow up Last of Her Kind, I was flying out when I noticed a wall of flame up above on the cave sides. I flew in and all of a sudden the Stood in Fire achievement pinged. I lived. When I returned a bit later, the wall of fire had gone.

I was actually dead at the time and running back to my corpse when the world lit up around me in ghostly pale luminescence and suddenly found myself with this achievement. I resurrected and found the entire forestline engulfed in flame. Had to come to the wiki here to find out that supposedly I'd just been marshmellowed by Deathwing His'self.

achievement achieved!

2 minutes ago in Stonetalon Mountains, west of Malaka'Jin. A guildie got the achievement and i ran right there where he was.
This indicates, that yes, the fires stand still for 5 minutes AND you don't have to actually die to get this. The fire took only a quarter of my health and i still got the achievement.

It was speculated that when your server downed Deathwing for the first time Stood in the Fire would become an FoS. This is untrue and as shown above you have until the end of 4.3 or in other words a lot more time.

I got toasted yesterday (10/23/11) in The Burning Steppes. This was my second toon that this has happened to, the first in Eastern Plaguelands last March.

The first time it happened, they sky went all red, but I had no idea what was going on. The fire also dissipated really quickly, but this time the fire burnt for a good 5 minutes. I walked bak to my body and resurrected on a hill where there was no fire. All the mobs around me kept dying and giving me XP! I gained half a level from all the dying mobs, not sure why I was getting the XP, but won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

After the fire faded, I was able to farm the corpses of all the elementals at the foot of the hill. I'm wondering if they hadn't somehow aggroed on me for me to get the XP and the ability to loot them.

Got this last night in Blasted lands, in the serpent coil cave. At first I didn't know wtf happened, I was turning in a quest and all of a sudden I was dead. It took around 10 minutes for the fires to die down so I could resurrect.

You do not have to die to get the achievement. Last night on Bleeding Hollow, I was in Blasted Lands on the west side near the mountains, went into a BG, got out and everything was on fire, my health went down about half and I just walked over to where there was no fire and survived. I got the achievement, about half a level worth of XP and all the Ogre mobs that were near me were dead and lootable. Not too bad. Thanks Blizz!

After weeks of missing him, I've had encounters over the last two weeks in Arathi Highlands & Twilight Highlands (twice). Also, the path can vary, since one trail of fire in TH went from the Twilight areas through Crushblow & the northwestern side of the river (burning the Dwarven villages to char, btw), while another path ended up taking out the Goblin outpost on the island. (I only caught the end of the fires in Arathi, so all I know for sure is that it took out the Orc valley farm in the center-east part of the zone.

While finishing up a quick quest in the Tainted Forest in the Blasted Lands with my 61 Rogue, Deathwing flew overhead and torched the forest, killing me & giving me the achievement. I managed to rez in the Tainted Scar while the fires were still blazing, jumped on my gryphon and flew up to wait until the fires died down. While I was hovering over the flames, several flashes of "+45, or +50 XP" came up without me attacking any mobs. I'm not sure, but I get the impression that mobs were dying in the fire and I was getting xp for their deaths even though I was simply flying nearby. Maybe this is a minor bug..? Not a big deal, but a few hundred "free XP" is nice! :-)

Shortly after the cata release, I was questing in Twilight Highlands, near the ruins, when the sky went dark red and my screen looked like it caught fire. Being that I was unaware of the achievement, I basically freaked out and ran into one of the buildings.. and didn't die or get the achievement. :( I haven't seen an attack since, and knowing this will soon be a Feat of Strength, I've been camping out aimlessly waiting for DW to make his appearance.

I realize this is buried on post number 506 so nobody will see it, but this is so strange I had to post:

I was at Orgrimmar waiting for the Zeppelin to Thunder Bluff to arrive. When it appeared, I noticed something was... different about it. It was on fire.

Sure enough, when it docks at the tower, I die and earn my "Stood in the Fire" achievement, as did everybody waiting for the thing. Unfortunately, the fire didn't go out until the Zeppelin was already leaving, so I had to wait for it to come around again (and that's probably the longest zeppelin/boat wait in the game). I guess the Zeppelin must have flown through Southern Barrens at the exact time and location where Deathwing attacked.

Got this today in Tanaris. I was farming Tidal Striders in the bay betweeen gadgetzan and caverns of time. Suddenly the air turned a dark purple red and I saw deathwing flying in from the sea. He came next to me, so I wasn't hit by the flames, but he left a trail going east-west in the tanaris desert. I ran into it - and out again without dying. Then whispered everyone in dalaran, and at least one guy made it there through the portal in order to get the achievement as well. Guess the fire stays up for 3-5 minutes.

Safe in Winterspring when entering the cave of Ban'Thallow Barrow and standing next to the questgiver, Rinno Curtainfire. The cave location is at 47,40. The npc is at 45,40. The wall of fire is raging all around accept in that particular alcove of the cave.

I was headed up the steps of Crown Guard tower in Eastern Plaguelands when Deathwing hit. I got killed and got the achievement but when I looked it actually took away over 1125 reputation points from Argent Dawn making my rep with them "unfriendly." :( What happened?

Apparently, a level 44 shaman can jump into his fire, get the achievement, then jump back out at the cost of only half health. "Get killed by Deathwing" actually means "Take a moderate amount of damage from Deathwing" now?

The Blizzard nerfbat--NO ONE IS SAFE! Not even Deathwing.

(Note that I wasn't in his path when this happened, I ran to and jumped into the flames after he had gone by already.)

You CAN get this achievement without dying despite the nature of the achievement is "Get Killed by Deathwing".

In order to do this achievement without dying you MUST be on a flight path and in flight when Deathwing attacks the zone just as you are passing through.

My personal thoughts on having the correct conditions in place would be extremely rare so the odds are definitely against this happening so don't go out trying to get the achievement in this fashion as you could potentially blow whatever gold you have taking flight paths and still never get it.

You missed him. you have to be in the zone when it goes red. He doesn't do the whole zone either, you have to be hit by his flames as he shoots them, running into the flames after they are on the ground doesn't work. Once the sky goes Red you have about 30 seconds before deathwing flies over. so if you aren't in the right spot, you aren't going to get it.

I was able to get this achievement when Deathwing's fire trail completely missed me. I danced into the fire, stepping into the "burning" area, and danced right back out. Achievement and no damage.

I saw the trial account/WP post but on the main blizzard wow forums it seems like Deathwing is missing in action from the flyovers. Only asking cause I've only got one toon left to get it, and she is lvl 15 so she is a long way from endgame content. Plus with my luck by the time I get her there, the next expansion will hit. This achievement has now became considerably easier to get as off 4.3.

You can get this achievement by dying in any way during the Deathwing's Spine encounter in Dragon Soul. Raid Finder or real works alike.

For those who trying for this - I can't tell you where to go. It is random.

I do know that the sky turns red before Deathwing comes. He comes 3 - 5 mins after the sky turns and for those us who have been burned by him, we try to escape.

On another note, it is very possible to portal somewhere and be engulfed it flame. It happened to me, porting from Stormwind to Uldum.

I must say, if your level 85 and after this achievement, simply do the fall of deathwing raid. On spine of deathwing, i got the achievement, "Stood in fire" By getting killed by him. So dont waste your time looking for him if your 85, go do the raid, because you know he is there. Dont ask me what i did. We wiped on his spine, some of us got the achievement, some didnt.

It seems you're able to get this achievement if you die to Deathwing in the Dragon Soul raid.

My rogue was low on health during the Madness of Deathwing encounter then she got smashed by a Mutated Corruption's AOE. This achievement popped up right when I died. I was confused as to why I got Stood in the Fire as I died to getting smashed by a tentacle.

If you're having trouble getting this achievement, one way is to queue up for Fall of Deathwing via LFR. Once you get to the Madness of Deathwing, die to a Mutated Corruption's AOE attack. I don't know if Elementium Bolt also triggers the achievement but the Mutated Corruption sure does.

A few days back I was questing in Blasted Lands on my Pally. I was in the middle of killing the named corehound for the quest where you kill him. Deathwing flew over and killed me and everything around me. I respawned but couldn't go anywhere as I was in a tiny bubble of non flame surrounded by a whole lot of flame. So as I was patiently waiting for the flame to go away I could hear things respawning around me and then screaming as they died. Something caught my attention. I was getting exp for everything that died. And when the fire went away I got to loot everything in my area that had been killed after me. It was kind of awesome. :)

ETA: I had read a bit of this thread before I posted this and hadn't seen any other posts about it, but after I posted I saw a few others had experienced this as well. Glad I wasn't in an area of rep giving/taking npcs like others had been.

Got this on my blood elf while questing around the dark portal. Waiting for some boss to respawn and just when he did there was a sea of flames and I died -.- But I did a corpse run, respawned and stood there watching the pretty flames, in which for some reason I didn't die.
