This is the 2nd boss of the Trial of the Crusader raid, doable in both 10 and 25 man mode.

It's pretty obvious the Mistress of Pain has to be offtanked, but it's not so obvious with Lord Jaraxxus and the Felflame Infernals. Can anyone answer if they need to be tanked or if they're basically another Shade of Aran?

Easiest way is to have all dps focus down adds when they show up after OT has them under control. Otherwise you will slowly be overrun by adds and die before downing the boss. MT on Jaraxxus he melees and his casts can (and should) be interrupted. OT on mistresses and infernals.

Strictly important for mages to spellsteal the buff, largely increasing you're dps. If the mage is out of mana it still needs to be debuffed (purge etc) otherwise most of your raid members will get one shot.

Tactics for Lord Jaraxxus, second boss of TotC.
For 10-man:

MT: tank the boss in the middle of the room, try to interrupt his casts as many times as possible. Move boss if an infernal charges you or a melee dps and aoe's nearby.

OT: tank Mistress of Pain, she should be downed fast since she deals quite some damage. Tank infernals (usually 3 pop out of each volcano) and kyte them away from the raid since they do some nasty aoe's. They'll usually (such as Mistress) charge someone and get back to you/do their aoe where they charge. They can be stunned (banished too, although this should not be an option since they accumulate and can overwhelm healing). Save your stuns for their aoe's.

Melee dps: interrupt boss whenever possible (in 10-man at least 2 melees should be assigned to do this). The rest dps boss when there are no adds, and dps Mistress when she spawns. Dpsing infernals might be dangerous, because of their aoe. We usually have our ranged dpses down the Infernals.

Ranged dps: spread as much as possible around the room (keeping 10yards+ from each person around you). dps boss when there are no adds, dps adds when they come.

Healers: heal tanks A LOT, they'll be taking severe damage during the entire encounter. Spam heal whoever has Incinerate Flesh.

Raid tactics: move backwards (towards the wall) if you're affected with Legion Flame, to make the job on healers easier. Don't move when you have Incinerate Flesh, you don't have to and might go off healers range. When you move from Legion Flame, you'll leave a trail of fel flame (green flame). Don't go over it, it's usually not a good idea to play with fire right?

This fight has some mechanics involved, but shouldn't be that hard, as long as each person pays attention to what they're supposed to do.

Little note about the nether power buff... not as many stacks as listed while on 10 man. noticed only 5 stacks on 10 man. 10 stacks on 25 man. still should be dispelled/spell stolen as fast as possible to lower raid dmg.

When the mistresses spawn, the boss wont stop casting fireballss, so I recommend having a melee dps STAY on the boss when the mistress spawns, all of the other dps can dps her.

For rogues, ONE rogue can interupt all the Fireballs, the 10sec CD of kick will not stop you from interupting one after another. They're not that hard either.

This was a very interesting boss fight, not in its complication though. Two things to remember.

1. Mages, you are the kings here. Spellsteal him dry when he buffs himself up, and your looking at crits you would pull in 25 man Naxx on Thaddius JUST in 10 man. Arcane has an easier time considering the 40% threat reduction compared to the 10% provided by fire

2. If you love Deadly Boss Mods (DBM), you better think twice in this fight.

Heroic Jaraxxus (10 man)

New trick: you have to burn the portals and volcanos. On normal mode, they both spawn a set number and then go away (1 succy, 3-4 infernals); on heroic, they keep spawning things till you kill them.

The succubi cast a new debuff (Mistress' Kiss, thanks Abyss) - this is like a pre-emptive interrupt; next time you try to cast anything with a cast time, it will lock you out of that school for 8 seconds. This is annoying to dps casters, but if your healers are not careful, your tank will die. Watch for it, and cast something out of school to get rid of it when you have full health (mind blast, lava burst, starfire; paladins are out of luck, unless they want to bubble it off. Someone should try casting hearthstone and see if that works.)

This fight isn't a lot harder than the regular mode, once you get your dps to switch to portals; damage is higher (raid damage is a lot higher), but the fight is easy unless you're melee stacked. Healers should be aware that they need a lot more healing to remove incinerate flesh than in normal.

Holy palladins excel at healing on this fight. The raid takes burst damage, which is what healadins do best. I was able to keep the maintank up without ever targeting him for a heal due to beacon of light. However keep in mind that healing done to the incinerate flesh target will NOT also heal the tank, as no actual healing occurs.

Having some1 to interupt the boss is also of vital importance.

The infernals are completely immune to all CC on heroic (stuns, banish, etc), and their inferno ability can no longer be interrupted.

Incinerate Flesh also requires alot more healing to remove, and the Burning Inferno that results from it does alot more damage as well. If even one Incinerate Flesh fails to be removed on heroic, you will most likely wipe, unless you have godly healers.

I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere, but are any of Jaraxxus's abilities tied to him having mana? With only 4k mana, I imagine that burning his bar to nil would make things far easier on heroic difficutly, as if his spells require mana to use (at least the fireball and the lightning), then that's far less raid damage to worry about and fel fireball interrupts go out the window, allowing the raid to focus on nether portals, infernals, and of course legion flames and incinerate flesh. He is in fact burnable, but I'd like to know if mana burning him would accomplish anything. He HAS to have a blue bar for a reason, right?

With the recent buffs to demon spawn speed this is definitely more difficult than Northrend Beasts on 25-man Heroic.

Probably still easier on 10-man though.

Is this true? I'm sure I've seen mobs that appeared to be shamans or other classes. What about the faction Champs? Is the DK actually a Warrior? I'm not being sarcastic...I'm actually wondering.

As I experienced, the boss summons the Nether Portal at his left side, almost in melee range, but it's not certain.

If you're having trouble with this boss try this, tank him against the wall and have DPS form an arc surrounding him for the following benefits;

Make Portals and Volcanoes easier to see in contrast to the wall.
Cut the area of portal/volcano summon in half, thus creating less confusion.
Everyone will be in range of heals, some DPS end up on the other-side of the boss and out of range.
Even though the Portal/Volcanoes spawn to his left side, the tank will have to move the boss on occasion due to factors such as Felflame Infernals casting Fel Streak on random targets causing an AoE effect, which will leave the boss not always facing the same direction every time he spawns the Portal. (Which may cause DPS disorientation if the boss is being tanked in the middle)

Felflame Infernals can be Banished, Cycloned and stunned. Paladins can make excellent use of Holy Wrath, best used when all 3 Infernals have been released. As for the Mistress of Pain, tanks tend to lose aggro after the first time she uses Pain Spike. Make sure the tank is aware to keep aggro during her initial Pain Spike.

I pugged this on 10 Heroic with my resto shaman. Pretty basic fight. As long as you have smart dps that can all deal 5k+ dps with 44k health tanks and decent heals then you got it. The raid damage is not much higher, if you have healed through the normal 25 man you should be able to heal this very easily. The incinerate flesh is really easy to heal through, if its more then its not much we got it down almost every time within 5 seconds. The add tank has to be quick though. When the first misstress appears for some reason even after the tank taunts she wipes aggro. We had our tank taunting right away and our ret paly got ganked in about 3 seconds... so the next time we tried consecrate and then use taunt after a few seconds and things went much more smoothly. The worst part of this fight, the part that makes it unpredictable and actually hard, is the inferno flames that Jar puts on one random player every 30 seconds or so. They are cast at random intervals and hurt much more in heroic then in 10 man. One of our mages forgot to move out of the flames and was eating the fire for about 5 seconds with all the stacks on the ground. It dealt about 10k dps, or half his health bar. There are 5 flames dropped so each one deals 2k dps, so at best you are taking 2k dps+ any other raid damage going on at the time. The fires also suck because (I do not know any other way to avoid besides pally bubble and mages freeze) you have to run with them to spread the stacks out. If one of your dps gets the flames right before a portal or volcanoe pops up then you are gonna have one helluva time getting it down, and too many infernals/2 mistresses are a wipe. I recommend saving BL/cd's for a portal when one of your dps is running or else you wont make it and have to wipe.

The kiss is bad but can be easily avoided if you have smart people. The key to this fight *SMART PEOPLE,* basically a retard check and dps check.

BTW... the portals AND volcanoes always spawn to his left, so if you tank the boss facing to the left of the exit then the portal appears right on top of the ranged dps which makes it easier to see and therefore burn.

On heroic mode, the Nether Portals and Infernal Volcanoes can (and must) be attacked and will keep spawning adds until killed (don't remember exactly how much health the portals have, but in 10-man heroic the volcanoes have little above 180k HP). All DPS must be ready to switch when portals or volcanoes spawn and burn them down ASAP, especially the portals, since the worst thing that can happen is having more than one mistress up. The mistresses also cast on random raid members a debuff that lasts for 8 seconds and, if the debuffed player casts any spell during that time, will lock him out of that magic school for another 8 seconds and deal 6 to 8k shadow damage to them. This is why it's crucial to kill portals before the second mistress spawns, otherwise you may get one or even two of your healers silenced, which is a certain wipe. Volcanoes aren't so tough, we allways got them killed before the fourth infernal could spawn. Also, it is handy for casters to have an ability from their not-so-important school ready (i.e. Lava Burst for a resto shammy) and cast that if they need to get rid of the debuff fast, just be mindfull of the damage it deals and don't get yourself killed in the process.

Other than that, be mindful that Jaraxxus deals about 30% more damage, so do his adds. If you take care of portals and volcanoes in time, you only need luck on your side, and pray no raider gets more than one of the possible damaging abilities at once (Legion Flames, Incinerate Flesh or the Mistresses' Pain Spike), because getting two of these at once will kill any raider.

edit: another thing that may throw you off your game: heroic mode makes the infernals immune to any type of CC. Just burn them down quickly and run away from them when they errupt.

To my knowledge, everything is either a warrior or paladin. No rogues or mages seem to make an appearance, and the evidence to that effect is the fact that an overwhelming majority of mobs can block (which rogues and mages can't do) and parry (which mages also can't do).

In addition, regardless of how a mob looks (with the exceptions I'll mention in a sec), it IS carrying a weapon. Even if it's a beast that gives an "invalid target" message when you try to Disarm or Dismantle, it is armed with at least one weapon (since it can parry) and/or a shield (as it can block). I'm not sure if dual wielding mobs can block however.

There ARE some exceptions to this general rule, usually when it comes to miscellaneous mobs such as Chaotic Rifts (Nexus) and Light Wells (Trial of the Champion).

I'm looking at heroic faction champs right now and I've got

Mage x2 (Mage, Priest)
Paladin x3 (Shaman, Paladin, Boomkin)
Rogue x1 (Rogue)

Though, admittedly, warrior/paladin are more common.

One word describes DPSing this fight:

Chaos.

I'm positive it's worse as a healer, but this fight can be a bit difficult to keep track of as a damage dealer. Also, the fact that everything and everyone has a potential to be lit on fire or explode spectacularly in this fight does not help. It's fun once you get the hang of it, but challenging. If you make one wrong move, you will be killed spectacularly. There are many ways to die in this fight.

One tip: Make sure you DPS the adds first. Jaraxxus will go down eventually, don't be concerned about shifting your attention away from him for long periods of time. You'll save the healers a lot of stress if you bring down the infernals and mistresses first.
